Chapter 8

[Hospital]

"Ms. Richard, is Rain going to be okay?" Ariel asked, she was on the verge of crying.

Kurama and Ariel had rushed Rain to the hospital at top speed.

"She’ll be alright Kamiya. You got her here not a moment too soon. If you didn’t notice it sooner than the fever could have gotten worse." Ms. Richard replied.

"Thank god Kurama noticed it…" Ariel muttered under her breath as Ms. Richard walked away.

Kurama looked out the window, watching the cars and people pass by.

Ariel grunted and walked over to Kurama.

"Tell me Kamiya, why is Rain like this?" Kurama asked, he wasn’t facing her though.

"What’s it to you?" Ariel snarled.

"Just tell me." Kurama muttered.

"Look here, this is Rain’s busin-"

"Kamiya! Kurama!" Yusuke shouted as he ran towards them. Hiei followed behind him, slowly.

Ariel and Kurama spun around quickly, "Yusuke!?"

"Woah, that was quick!" Ariel exclaimed.

"Tell me NOW what’s going on with Rain!!" Yusuke demanded.

"The doctor said she’ll be alright Yusuke. So calm down before you have a cow!" Ariel snapped at the worried boy.

Yusuke then muttered something under his breath and sat down on the bench.

[Later-Nighttime]

"I should be heading home now. I’ll see you guys tomorrow, first thing in the morning here." With that Ariel left the waiting room.

"I would rather be at Rain’s house than be here. See you around." Hiei muttered as he disappeared.

The only people who were left were Kurama and Yusuke.

"You go on ahead Kurama. I’ll stay overnight here, my mom wouldn’t mind. I bet you she’s out drunk again. Anyway it would make me feel much better that when Rai wakes up she’ll have someone here who cares about her deeply." Yusuke said.

"It’s alright, I’ll spend the night here as well. I’ve called my mother and told her that I’ll be here." Kurama replied.

He walked over to where Yusuke sat and sat on the bench next to him.

"Yusuke tell me, what exactly is wrong with Rai? She’s so kind and gentle but I sense she’s hiding something." Kurama asked.

Yusuke clenched his fists tightly and looked at Kurama.

"When she was little, her mother disappeared. Her name was Saori Ame Urameshi." Yusuke said.

Kurama’s eyes widened, he had over heard Rai speaking to her aunt before but he only heard the part about Narutaki staying in Kyoto.

"When Rai and I were little, we lived next door to each other. My mom got along with her parents then. Yeah, life was great back then…"

[Flash Back]

"Yusuke! Yusuke Urameshi!" A five-year-old Rain shouted. Her long brown hair was in two Chinese buns with pink silk ribbons holding them up. She wore a pink winter coat and she carried a basket, which had hot chocolate in them.

It was December and the two were outside playing in the snow.

Then a five-year-old Yusuke looked up.

"Hey Rai!" Yusuke replied cheerfully.

"Yusuke, Okaa-san told me that in eight months, she’ll be having a baby! I’m going to be a big sister and you’ll get to be a big cousin!" Rain exclaimed.

"That’s cool! Is it a boy or girl?"

"I don’t know that yet silly! But if it’s a boy, I want to name him Narutaki! Named after Narutaki from the anime "Steam Detectives"!"

"That’s such a cool name for a boy!"

"Oh Yusuke…"

[End of Flash Back]

"Yeah, everything was great back then. Rain’s mom had Narutaki eight months later. But that some month when Narutaki was born, everything changed…"

[Flash Back]

"Yusuke!" Rain cried.

"Rain we are leaving now! You’ll see your cousin in 2 weeks!" Shintaro Urameshi said sternly, he held a baby boy in his arms.

"I SAID LET’S GO!" Shintaro shouted as he grabbed Rain’s wrist tightly and put her in a car. He to got into the car.

The car started to move slowly, the car window rolled down and Rain stuck her head out of the car.

"Yusuke, I promise I’ll be back soon!" Rain cried, tears fell down her face.

"RAIN DON’T GO! COME BACK RAIN! PLEASE RAIN DON’T GO!" Yusuke shouted as he started to run after the car.

"Yusuke, I promise I’ll see you again! I’ll see you in 2 weeks!"

"NO IT WON’T BE THE SAME! RAIN!" Yusuke started to run faster.

"Yusuke!" With that the car and Rain disappeared.

"NO! RAIN COME BACK!" Yusuke shouted with tears falling down his face, he then fell onto the ground.

Then drops of rain started to fall on the streets.

"YUSUKE URAMESHI GET HERE THIS INSTANT!" Atsuko Urameshi shouted.

"Rain…" Yusuke cried.

[End of Flash Back]

"Two weeks went by and Rain never showed up. She moved to Kyoto but this year she moved back. When I heard her voice again, it brought back many memories…"

[Flash Back]

"Yusuke, could you get the freakin’ phone already? I have a huge headache and that ringing noise isn’t helping it." Atsuko said dully as she lay on the couch drinking beer.

"Yeah mom, got it." Yusuke replied coldly as he picked up the phone.

"Yusuke speaking, what can I help you with?" Yusuke said dully and coldly.

"Yusuke…?" A female voice replied.

Yusuke’s eyes widened from the voice, "RAIN IS THAT YOU!?"

"Yusuke shut your mouth and just answer the person’s question." Atsuko replied harshly as she took another sip of beer.

Yusuke snickered and became silent.

"Yeah Yusuke, it’s me. It’s been a long since we’ve talked or even seen each other." Rain remarked.

"I mean, yeah, it’s been, like nine years since you’ve moved to Kyoto. Anyway how’s Kyoto and your new life?" Yusuke replied.

"Actually Yusuke, I’ve moved back here." Rain smiled.

"Really!? That’s great, when can I see you?" Yusuke asked eagerly.

"I was thin-"

"Hello?" A male voice appeared.

"Huh?"

"I’m so sorry for my daughter’s non stop chatting. I believe she has the wrong number. Good day." With that the phone clicked.

Yusuke stood there dumbfounded, "THAT BASTARD SHINTARO STILL HATES ME! WELL I STILL HATE HIS FUCKING GUTS!"

"SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND SIT ON YOUR CARCASS NOW!" Atsuko shouted as she threw a pillow at Yusuke, hitting him the face.

"ALRIGHT ALREADY!" Yusuke shouted back.

‘That bastard Shintaro, he’s still the same after all these years!’ Yusuke thought angrily.

"Still, even if it means I gotta hunt Rai down then so be it!" Yusuke shouted.

"I SAID SHUT UP!" Atsuko shouted but this time she threw a book, hitting him in the face yet again.

[End of Flash]

"I wanted to kill that so called Uncle of mine. I knew he hated me since I was different. He thought I was a bad influence on Rai since I lived differently then she did. But Saori, my aunt, loved me like I was her own kid." Yusuke replied.

"Anyway, I didn’t have her number to call her back. I then started looking through phone books but they hadn’t listed her family so I started to manners into my own hands…"

[Flash Back]

"Damn, is it so hard to find just one person, especially if it’s your own cousin!" Yusuke remarked as he walked down the streets of city.

"Where should I start? I’ve looked through the phone books and called information and they have nothing!" Yusuke groaned.

"What am I gonna do?! If only Rai’s number than this could have been easier!"

Yusuke then stopped and thought for a moment, ‘Wait, I haven’t tried schools yet! If I know Shintaro than he would apply Rai to one of the most expensive preppy richest school ever!’

"So all I need to do is go to the most fucked up prep schools in the area and ask them if Rai applied to that school!" Yusuke replied as he ran off.

[Katsuyuki Academy-Office]

"Hey do you know if a girl named Rain Miri Urameshi applied for this school?" Yusuke asked rudely.

"Why do you ask sir?" A woman replied hastily. She was disgusted with Yusuke for two reasons. One for coming in uninvited and two for a punk to be at an exclusive academy and demanding to give him information.

"Just answer it!" Yusuke murmured.

"Yes, a girl named Rain Miri Urameshi did apply and also to our all girl school."

"Huh?"

"Sir, our founder, Mr. Katsuyuki, owns three academies, three of the best, exclusive and richest academies here. Those would be the all girls academy "Kistune Academy", the all boys academy "Matsudai Toushi Academy" and the co-ed academy "Katsuyuki Academy". In other words, she applied for the all girls academy and our co-ed school. She went to the Kistune Academy but then her father switched her to the co-ed one." The woman applied.

"How long was she in the all girls academy?"

"For at least a month, her father, one of the most successful business men ever, switched her out of Kistune to Katsuyuki so she could mingle with the opposite gender as well."

"Could you tell me the number of her please?"

"I’m sorry that is classified information and no one, especially some one like yourself, should know about one of our students." The woman sneered.

"Hey, I’m her cousin, Yusuke Urameshi so I have EVER right to know her phone number." Yusuke demanded.

The woman looked horrified, "Yusuke Urameshi?"

"Yeah now give me the number."

"678-0912."

"Thanks. Oh do you know if I can apply to Katsuyuki Academy?" Yusuke joked, hoping she would get the joke.

"If you have $20,000,000 then you can apply. Also we don’t allow "men" like yourselves at our schools." She snorted.

"Yeah lady whatever you say." With that Yusuke walked out of the office and back home.

[End of Flash Back]

"I was grateful when Rai moved back and when I saw her, I saw not a little girl anymore, I saw a young woman who was my cousin…" Yusuke smiled.

[Flash Back]

"Yusuke…" She whispered.

Yusuke stared at her, strangely. He remembered Rai as a little Ms. Perfect when he was little but now he didn't see a little girl, he saw a Teenage girl who was his cousin.

Rai stared at him kindly and then ran into his arms and hugged him tightly.

"Yusuke I've missed you so much." Rai said.

"Uh Rai please don't get so lovey! You know that I hate it when you act like this." Yusuke teased as he hugged her.

[End of Flash Back]

"I’ve always wondered what my little cousin would be like. When I first met Narutaki I thought it would cool. But the way I met him was horrifying…"

[Flash Back]

"Yeah she is and DO NOT tell her about me being a Spirit Detective, got it." Yusuke said sternly. Botan nodded her head. Then there was a knock on the door. Yusuke walked over to it and opened it.

It was Narutaki, he was panting for breath.

"Who are YOU?"

"I…I'm Narutaki Urameshi, Rai's younger brother." Narutaki panted.

"So that's the surprise Rai wanted to tell me."

"Yusuke Rai is sick. She's very weak and she has a fever. She told me to come over here and that she would catch up BUT she hasn't. She must have fainted."

"WHAT!?"

"Please Yusuke help me find my sister."

Yusuke nodded and then turned to Botan.

"Botan you're gonna help us find Rai alright."

"Sure Yusuke but one thing, what does Rai look like?"

"Argh Botan…just…follow me and Narutaki!"

[End of Flash Back]

"Finding out Rai had developed a sickness over the years, it my broke my heart to see her that like…"

[Flash Back]

"But still my father was never home. The last time I can remember he was home was five months ago." Then Rai started to cry. She couldn't hold it anymore. "And when mother disappeared I became very sick and the doctors say that they can't cure it all, they said I MIGHT live until I'm 20 or 30 years old." Rai cried harder and harder. "My father knew but he just didn't care at all because he was NEVER home to see me suffer!" Yusuke hugged Rai tightly and patted her back.

"Let it all out Rai, you still have Narutaki and me. Just cry it all out."

"I promise you that I'll help you out with Narutaki. I won't let you do all this work just 'cause Uncle Shintaro won't get help out his daughter! And I WILL find a way to cure your sickness. I won't you die, again."

"Yusuke thank you." Rai whispered and then cried again.

[End of Flash Back]

"I guess when I also found out that Rai was a Spirit Detective, I was more heartbroken. She’d died saving Narutaki’s life in a fire." Yusuke said as he turned to face Kurama.

"That’s basically all I know from my point of view. I’ve never asked Rai how she got sick, how her mother disappeared and her story behind dying. Not that I would ask her those things but she told me about her mother disappearing."

"Was what I told your answer to your question? I hope you’re satisfied with those answers Kurama. I don’t usually go around and tell people about my cousin and her private life. So don’t even mention it to her." Yusuke asked, raising an eyebrow.

Kurama just sat there on the bench next to Yusuke. He was touched, saddened, and horrified from what Yusuke told him. He couldn’t even move his own lips from the shock.

"Well does it?" Yusuke asked.

"Y-Yes it does." That was Kurama’s reply, since it was the only thing he say.

"Good since you’re not getting anymore from me or Rai. And as I said before, ask Rai about this and you die mercifully."

"Yes Yusuke, I won’t ask her." Kurama promised.

"Good, now I’m going hit the sack, see you around." Yusuke said as he got up and walked off.

Kurama smiled and got up and walked off in a different direction.

[Room 89]

Rai lay on the bed, blankets over her and her unconscious body.

There was a window next to the bed and it was opened, the curtains blew in the wind and then a figure emerged into her room.

He carried a sword and walked quietly over to her bed, she began to stir.

She started to open her eyes slowly and at first they were blurry.

"Huh?" Rai asked herself in a whisper.

Then she saw the figure: he stood over her and a sword was in his hands and was above her neck. Her eyes widened in terror.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Rai shrieked as she fell out of the bed.

She could barely stand and then crawled on the floor and hid in the corner.

The figure walked closer to Rai and held the sword tighter in his hands.

"Rain Miri Urameshi………" The figure said coldly.

"P-please stay away, please……" Rai begged. She could have fought him but she was still weak from her fever.

"No…" He said hastily.

"N-No…" Tears emerged from her umber eyes, "STAY AWAY FROM ME! YYYYYYUUUUUUUSSSSSSUUUUUUUKKKKKKEEEEEEE!"

AHA!! I LEFT YOU GUYS AT A CLIFFIE!! I can be so evil sometimes. ^_^ Well, the next chapter is on it's way! Ja!
