Lynx: Ahem...well she did have a tad too much of sugar that day...

Kaya: ...And watched "The Musketeer" movie...

Lynx: ...And after reading "The Three Musketeers"...

Yoko: SHE'S ON DRUGS I SAY!!!
Kaya: *boinks Yoko on the head* Please behave yourself, Yoko.

Lynx: Anyway, Miss. Juliana doesn't own YYH characters, "Musketeer" movie, or "The Three Musketeers" characters.

Yoko: FOR GOD'S SAKES SHE NAMED ME LEON DENTON!!! A FREAKIN' FRENCH NAME!!!

Kaya: *whacks Yoko over the head* Don't spoil it for the readers!!

Lynx: This should be interesting...

The Red Rose of Love

Chapter 19

[Urameshi Estate-Rai’s Room]

Rai lay on her bed and read her book quietly. She would sometimes laugh or gasp or smile or cry when she read.

She read, "The Three Musketeers" by Alexandre Dumas.

""He is a coward, indeed," grumbled the host, drawing near to D’Artagnan, and endeavoring by this little flattery to make up matters with the young man, as the heron of the fable did with the snail he had despised the evening before."" Rai said happily.

Rai stood on the bed and her voice was manly, ""Yes, a base coward," murmured D’Artagnan; "but she--she was very beautiful." "What she?" demanded the host. "Milady," faltered D’Artagnan, and fainted a second time." Rai then stopped.

Rai screamed in delight and then flopped down on the bed, she still held the book in her hands.

""Ah, it’s all one," said the host; "I have lost two customers, but this one remains, of whom I am pretty certain for some days to come. There will be eleven crowns gained." Rai giggled and closed her eyes.

Immediately Yusuke, Hiei, and Kurama slammed opened the door to her room.

"RAIN!" They screamed, they then realized they said her name and shunned each other.

Rai blinked and then laughed, "Oh you guys! I’m sorry if I startled you three."

"Rai, you screamed you gave me the impression-"

"Oh sorry about that Kurama, I was just reading and I got so caught into it, I shouted in delight since the character fainted so, you get the point." Rai smiled.

Kurama blushed and Rai smiled at him and making Kurama even blush more. Yusuke and Hiei snickered but they didn’t notice it.

The three boys understood Rai’s excuse and left all except for one…Hiei.

Rai noticed it and smiled gently, "Why are you still here, Hiei?"

Hiei turned his head away so Rai wouldn’t see him blush, "N-Nothing, Rai. It’s just that, that, book, you read. Is that what humans read?"

Rai giggled, "Yes, this book is a classic and it’s name "The Three Musketeers". It’s by Alexandre Dumas, a very well known writer. I wouldn’t say all kids my age like to read this kind of stuff."

Rai sighed, "Believe me, when I was 4, I read this book, well actually, my mother read it to Yusuke and I. I would always listen to her and sit quietly but Yusuke would just fool around, so my mother would stop reading it and we would do something else."

"Since I’m half American, half Japanese, I read lots of Japanese and American books. I mean, I speak both languages very well and I know the histories of them. I would always read the classics to Narutaki when he was just a kid, yet, like Yusuke, never found them entertaining." Rai then smiled.

"Sorry for going on about myself, do you want me to read it to you, Hiei? It’s very good and I think you may like it." Rai suggested with a smile.

"Rai, you know, that I love you and always will but…" He turned to face her with a dead serious face, "But I won’t hear some idiotic stories about made up nigens by a clueless fool, who spends him time writing such nonsense! Anyone who writes made up stories is stupid to begin with."

Rai’s face was emotionless and gripped firmly around the book and got off her bed and walked over to Hiei.

"For one thing, Hiei Jaganshi, Alexandre Dumas is dead! He lived in the 19th Century for crying out loud! Second of all, I respect people’s opinions but to say Alexandre Dumas is a fool has gone too far! Third, my MOTHER was a writer and she admired Alexandre Dumas and saying that writers are fools is just too much!"

Hiei went dead silent, "…"

"Finally, if you love me, then accept my passions for books, Alexandre Dumas, and so on! If you don’t, believe me, it won’t make me choose you!" With that, Rai stormed off of her room and pushed Hiei out of the way.

Hiei felt stupid for saying that and felt even worse.

‘Maybe that wasn’t the best approach.’ Hiei thought as he sighed. He then teleported some where else.

[Stairwell]

"Ooh, sometimes Hiei just gets to me! Saying Alexandre Dumas is a fool and that he spent his time writing about stupid characters goes too far! Well, if it wasn’t for him, "The Three Musketeers" wouldn’t be around!" Rai huffed.

Kurama noticed her and ran up to her, "Rai are you alright?"

Rai spun around and looked angered, "Yes!"

Kurama looked at her again; "Something is bugging you. Please tell me what it is, Rai."

Rai still kept quiet and cross her arms across her chest.

"Let me guess, Hiei said something that upset you." Kurama suggested with a smile.

"I guess you can say that," She clutched the book tighter, "Hiei didn’t have to be rude and insult someone!"

Kurama looked at her quite puzzled, "What did he exactly say, Rai?"

"He said that Alexandre Dumas was fool for writing books and said anyone who writes stories is stupid to begin with!"

"Rai…"

"For one thing, my MOTHER was a writer and admired Alexandre Dumas! Saying that people who write books are fools is wrong!" Rai huffed.

Kurama put his hand on Rai’s shoulder and squeezed her shoulder tightly.

"Don’t listen to Hiei, Rai. Don’t let those insults get to you, just ignore them." Kurama said kindly while smiling.

Rai grinned softly, "Okay, Kurama, I’ll take your advice."

Kurama then let go of Rai’s shoulder and she waved and walked off.

Kurama sighed softly, ‘I love you, Rai, I hope you know that.’

[TV Room]

"All for one and one for all!" D’Artagnan and his fellow musketeers said loudly.

Rai sighed dreamily as she watched D’Artagnan and his musketeers on the television. She snuggled up on the couch, watching "The Musketeer" on the USA Channel.

"I wish the Mystic Rose and Urameshi Teams would get along like D’Artagnan and his musketeers." Rai sighed.

Rai was right for saying the Urameshi and Mystic Rose Teams weren’t getting along. Hiei bickered with Kai, Yusuke and Ariel were CONSTANTLY fighting, and Kuwabara had fist fights with Takuya, Kai and Kikyo had their share of fights, Botan and Ariel had cat fights, and Kurama and Mayumi just hated each other. Shun and Rai had to be peacemakers in this war between the teams.

"Why can’t they just get along! I know for a fact that Shun is sick of playing peacemaker and even though I am sick of doing it too, somebody’s got to do it asides from having World War 3 in this house, nevertheless, while we’re on duty." Rai sighed.

She continued to watch the movie until….

"Ah, I’m so…" Rai then closed her beautiful umber eyes and went into a deep sleep.

~* Dream World~*

"We’re the Musketeers for Lady Rain of France! We must honor her with our life and dignity!" A familiar man said. He wore a musketeer outfit. He had black spiky hair and green eyes.

"I maybe, Lady Rain’s cousin, but I’m also her fellow musketeer!" Another familiar man said. He had jet-black hair with brown eyes. He too wore a musketeer outfit.

"We shall come together, with my musketeers of Yannick Herbert and of Toussaint Alden!" It was Yusuke Urameshi and Takuya.

"Musketeers of Yannick Herbert, show yourselves now!" Yusuke said.

Then, 3 men and 1 woman appeared and they too wore musketeer outfits.

"I’m Henri De Lorme, a musketeer of Yannick Herbert." It was Hiei.

"I’m Leon Denton, another musketeer of Yannick Herbert." It was Kurama.

"I’m Stefan Dunstan, another musketeer Yannick Herbert." It was Kuwabara.

"And I’m Madame Beatrice Edith, I’m a female musketeer of Sir Yannick Herbert." It was Botan.

"I’m pleased to you Sir Stefan, Leon, Henri, Madame Beatrice. Now, let me introduce my fellow comrades and musketeers." Takuya said as he gestured his musketeers to come forward.

"Musketeers, state your name to Sir Yannick Herbert and his comrades." Takuya said sternly.

"I’m Alain Burby." That was Kai.

"I’m Severin Devereux." That was Shun.

"I’m Adeline Louis." That was Ariel.

"I’m Clarice Merle. I’m a helper to Sir Toussaint Alden and still in-training musketeer." That was Kikyo.

"I’m Madame Marietta Alden, the fair younger sister of Toussaint Alden. I may not be a musketeer but I’m to journey with my dear older brother Toussaint." That was Mayumi.

"Together, the Herbert and Alden Musketeers will protect Lady Rain Herbert!" Takuya and Yusuke said.

"There shall be no more fighting between the two groups of musketeers!" Kikyo and Mayumi squealed in delight.

"No more conflicts with, who’s better than who!" Kurama, Kuwabara, and Shun exclaimed.

"No more name calling or insults with each other." Hiei and Kai said coolly.

"We’re now one group of musketeers, who shall protect Lady Rain Herbert!" Ariel and Botan said happily.

"All for one and one for all!" The two musketeer groups said as the put their swords together.

~* End of the Dream ~*

Slowly, Rai’s umber eyes opened and she yawned. She looked at the TV and smiled. The movie was at an end with the musketeers getting medals from the king.

‘That dream I had, it seemed so real. Except for the part that everyone’s name was French but maybe, they’ll stop their bickering and come to like it each other.’ Rai thought.

"All for one and one for all as the musketeers say it!" Rai said happily as she stood on the couch and then fell back down, giggling and laughing.

Yoko: YOU SEE!!! EVEN RAI THINKS THAT THE FRENCH NAMES WERE TOO MUCH!!

Lynx: Calm down, Yoko, and Rai didn't exactly say the French names were stupid.

Yoko: BUT...it was close enough!!! >^ ^<
