Chapter 18

Even though Rai’s life was spared, she was still sickly. That didn’t matter to anyone at all, especially Yusuke. After saying their good byes, everyone headed back to Tokyo.

Shintaro insisted he stayed back with Rai but she said it was all right. So in the end, Shintaro headed back on a plane to America.

Yukina decided to stay with Rai, just in case. Kuwabara was very happy about this; also making Hiei really ticked off.

Narutaki was a different story. He was still going to stay with Sayuka and Sage but in Sendai now.

[Urameshi Estate]

"Yusuke, you should be at school, not here taking care of me!" Rai scolded.

It was true; Yusuke had ditched school again because of Rai. EVERYONE insisted that Rai should stay at her home for at least a week. Since Yusuke was related to her, he decided to stay with her. In other words, he was missing school.

"Rai, I don’t want ANYTHING bad happening to you AGAIN! And for you to stay home by yourself is just plain thoughtless." Yusuke shot back as he poured tea for Rai.

Rai raised her eyebrow, "Oh really…I have Kikyo and the others."

"That’s NOT the same! They don’t know what to do when something bad happens to you! I wouldn’t even leave you in the house with Hiei!"

Then the kitchen door opened and Yusuke and Rai turned around.

"Hey Rai." It was Atsuko Urameshi AKA Yusuke’s mom.

Yusuke’s eyes widened, "MOM!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!"

Astuko shut the door and walked over to the two teens.

"I’m here to take care of Rai of course." Atsuko said.

Yusuke turned to face Rai, "I’M NOT LEAVING YOU HERE ALONE WITH THIS WOMAN! YOU’LL PROBABLY END UP DEAD BY THE TIME I GOT HOME! NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT! THERE IS NO WAY I’M LEAVING YOU HERE WITH THIS WOMAN!"

Atsuko then pulled Yusuke by the ear, "Shut up Yusuke and get your butt to school! Rai will be perfectly fine since she’s with me."

"THAT’S WHAT I’M WORRIED ABOUT!" Yusuke retorted.

Atsuko then pushed Yusuke out the door, "Go on Yusuke and go to school. Don’t try ANY attempts to leave early or I’ll personally kill you."

Yusuke growled and stormed his way to school. Atsuko smiled, shut the door, and turned to face Rai.

"You know Atsuko, there are some other people here too. Hiei, Takuya, Mayumi, Kikyo, Kai, and Yukina so don’t worry." Rai smiled.

"Now don’t worry about them Rai. You need to have some R & R so I’ll make you some breakfast."

"Thank you Atsuko." Rai smiled.

[Sarayashiki School]

"Yusuke!" It was Keiko Yukimura.

"Hello Keiko." Yusuke grumbled.

"How was your "break" by the way? It’s good to see you at school for once." Keiko said sarcastically.

Yusuke snickered, "I was helping my sick cousin out with stuff alright! I wanted to take care of her for the week but my MOTHER, decides to take care of her and by the end of the day, she’ll be dead!"

Keiko blinked, "I didn’t know you have a cousin. What’s his name?"

"For YOUR information Keiko I have two! One’s Narutaki and he’s 9 and the other is Rain but everyone calls her Rai. She almost died…"

"Oh Yusuke! I’m so sorry for you!" Keiko said.

"Anyway, she lived by Yukina saving her life. By the way, she’s a Spirit Detective for another person. She’s staying home for the week from the recovery."

"That’s a relief. Anyway, I have make-up homework for you since you missed so much." Keiko said as she handed Yusuke a pile of papers.

'Great way to start to day...damn it.' Yusuke thought bitterly.

[Midou High]

‘I wish school would end soon. I really want to see Rai and see how’s she’s doing.’ Kurama thought as the teacher kept on talking.

‘Hiei’s luckier than I. He’s actually there while I’m school. Speaking of which, I know Hiei’s my friend and all but for now, I’m his rival for Rai’s affections.’ Kurama thought.

Then the bell rang and everyone got up. It was 11:30AM.

Kurama sighed and walked out of the classroom and down the hall. He then stopped. He turned around and looked at the door, which would let one out of the school.

‘I’ll probably get in big trouble because of this but I can’t wait any longer! I have to tell Rai how I feel about her and I need to tell her now!’ With that, Kurama ran down the long hallway and out the door of the school building.

[Urameshi Estate]

"That was the WORST food I have EVER had!" Kai groaned.

"Oh please Kai!" Kikyo shot back.

Kai sent a cold glare at her and stormed off.

"Well, it looks like Atsuko is sleeping. I’m going outside." Rai said to herself.

[Outside]

"It’s so beautiful. I’m happy that Okaa-san insisted Otou-san to have a garden." Rai commented. She then noticed a red rose and took it out.

"A red rose." Rai said to herself.

Rai held it close to her chest, ‘I know Hiei loves me but I’m not so certain if I love him.’

"Rai!" Rai immediately spun around and her eyes widened.

"Kurama!?" There, right in front of her, stood Kurama.

Kurama walked over to her, "Hello Rai."

"Kurama, why aren’t you at school?"

Kurama took a deep breath, "I wanted to talk to you."

Rai blinked, "What ever it is you wanted to talk about could have waited until AFTER school."

"That’s the point. It couldn’t wait, I couldn’t wait to tell you Rai." Kurama said. He noticed the red rose Rai held and put it in her long brown hair.

"K-Kurama…?"

Kurama smiled gently, "What I wanted to tell you is, I love you."

Rai’s heartbeat went faster, "Y-You do…?"

Kurama nodded, "Ever since I’ve met you, I've been in love with you, Rai."

Rai took a step backward but Kurama took a step forward and then took her into a gentle embrace.

"K-Kurama, I don’t know what to say…"

"Don’t say anything…" Kurama’s lips then met Rai’s soft and tender lips.

He held a firmer grip around Rai’s waist and deepened the kiss.

Rai then backed away, breaking the kiss, "I’m sorry Kurama, but I can’t accept your feelings. Someone else loves me and I can’t just decide who I want to be with!"

With that, Rai ran off, back into the house.

"WAIT RAI!" But she was gone.

Kurama sighed, ‘Maybe I should just stay here until Yusuke gets back.’

Not too far away, a certain fire demon saw the entire thing.

‘Baka kistune! How dare he kisses Rai! I maybe his rival for her but that don’t mean he CAN go up and kiss her!’ It was Hiei.

[Rai’s Room]

Rai looked up at the ceiling, ‘I’m now stuck in a love triangle with Hiei and Kurama.’

Then there was a knock on the door, "Come in."

The door opened and Rai smiled. It was Yukina.

"I was checking on you just to see if you’re alright."

Rai grinned, "Yukina, can I talk to you?"

"Sure Rain, you can tell me anything." Yukina walked over to Rai’s bed and sat down on it.

"So what do you want to talk about Rain?"

"Well, you see, I’m…"

"You’re in love aren’t you?"

"Eh, not quite but…I’m in a LOVE triangle."

"With who may I ask?"

"Kurama and Hiei."

"Oh…"

"I don’t know what to do. I mean, Hiei told me in Kyoto he loved me and now a few minutes ago, Kurama tells me he loves me! I don’t know whom to choose! I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings! I wish they didn’t love me in the first place."

"Rain, it’s fine to have two men love you. It means you’re a kind hearted person and beautiful and people love you for that."

"But…I don’t want to choose whom I want to be with NOW. It’s too soon to…"

"I know it’s too soon to choose between Kurama and Hiei. Just let your heart follow the man who you want to be with. It won’t matter to anyone who you end up with."

"Thanks Yukina. You’re the greatest."

"You're welcome, Rain."

[Living Room]

"YOU IDIOT!" Kurama shouted.

"YOU BASTARD!" Hiei retorted.

"IT’S YOUR FAULT!" They both said at the same time.

"May I ask what in god’s name is going on?" Kai asked hastily.

"Kurama and Hiei are having some disagreement about something." Takuya replied kindly.

"Or about someone!" Mayumi and Kikyo giggled.

"Foolish girls." Kai muttered under his breath.

"Well let’s see what they’re fighting about, shall we, Kai o Mighty." Takuya teased.

Kai snickered and continued to watch the fight.

"JUST WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!" Hiei shouted.

"AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT!?" Kurama asked, while shouting.

"KISSING HER!"

"YOU SPIED ON ME!?"

"WELL IT LOOKED LIKE YOU DIDN’T NEED ANY PRIVACY!"

"OH SO WHAT YOU’RE SAYING IS THAT WHEN I KISS SOMEONE I NEED TO DO IT IN PRIVATE!"

"IF YOU’RE KISSING HER THEN DON’T DO IT AT ALL!"

"YOU CAN’T CONTROL ME WHO I KISS!"

"WELL IF IT’S HER THAN YES I WILL CONTROL THAT AND PUT A STOP TO IT!"

"WELL YOU SEEM SO HIGH AND MIGHTY!"

"WELL BECAUSE I TOLD HER BEFORE YOU! SO I STILL HAVE A CHANCE WITH HER!"

"Who is this ‘she’ Kurama and Hiei speak about?" Takuya whispered to Kai.

"Who EVER it is, this ‘she’ must be REALLY something." Kai muttered back.

"Who EVER that ‘she’ is must be really special to them!" Mayumi sighed.

"Not to mention, the most beautiful woman EVER!" Kikyo pointed in.

"YOU KNOW SHE’LL CHOOSE ME OVER YOU!"

"YEAH RIGHT FOX AND I’M THE KING OF THE HEAVENS! AT LEAST I TOLD HER HOW I FEEL FIRST!"

"FIRST ISN’T ALWAYS THE BEST YOU KNOW!"

"WELL IN THIS CASE THIS IS!"

"I SEE! YOU’RE JUST JEALOUS THAT I KISSED HER AND WENT A LITTLE FURTHER THAN YOU DID!"

"YOU WENT FURHTER WITH HER!?"

"YES I DID! I FRENCH KISSED HER, ARE YOU HAPPY!?"

"YOU’RE DEAD FOX!" Hiei then pulled out his katana.

"YOU’RE SO WRONG!" Kurama’s rose whip then appeared.

"STOP BOTH OF YOU!" Kai then stood in the middle, his fists glowing a dark aura around them.

"As much as I like a good fight, continue the yelling part and leave out the fighting part. Fight the Akuma Masters but NOT your comrades." With that, Kai walked off.

Hiei and Kurama snickered at each other and stormed off.

"Wow Kai, that was SOOOOO courageous!" Kikyo beamed.

"Shut up Baka Kikyo." With that, he left.

"Ooh, Kai Ryuu you’re going to pay for that!" Kikyo snarled.

"Well WE STILL don’t know who this she is." Takuya sighed.

"Who EVER that she is, must have REALLY caught those two’s attention." Mayumi sighed loudly.

Kaya: Everyone caught down what Jules had so now my brother Lynx, and Yoko shall take care of it. Also you're find out why Yoko is here later on. ^~

Yoko: >_< How dare they not mention me in this romantic novel!! I AM KURAMA, AS WELL!!

Lynx: *pats Yoko on the head* There, there, little Yoko, it'll be alright. I'm certain Miss. Juliana shall put you apart of this romance.

Yoko: She better...*Grumbles*
