Chapter 27
Beach Fun
Neko noticed that Yamakaza's ki was off as of lately and he could understand since she's been staying up late trying to get more information about who actually killed Chikako. She started doing this for a few days and now it was taking a toll on her physically since she tripped over her own feet while running on the track. Neko wanted to do something for her that would relax her but he really didn't know what. So he took his problem to Kurama.
Kurama and Neko were sitting at a desk eating their lunches. Kurama thought a while after Neko explained the situation about Yamakaza. “She has been a little out of it lately…” he commented as picked up some shrimp from his lunch, “What did you have in mind to relax her?”
“Well,” Neko started, “way back when, whenever we felt the kids needed a break we took them to the beach. It was one of the carefree places we could go.”
“Do you really think she'll like the beach?”
“I know she will, all her Clan loves the beach,” Neko whispered that.
“Well, I'll get the others together and we'll head out tomorrow.”
Neko got a big smirk on his face but only for a moment.
“Neko-kun, do you have swim trunks?”
“What are swim trunks?” as he tilted his head and frowned.
“Oh dear…” Kurama sighed.
Neko held up a pair of swim trunks of bright blue and asked, “You want me to wear this?” The look that Kurama gave him told him that he shouldn't argue with the style of the clothing. But being a neko it was he couldn't help object his feelings about it, “You have to be crazy! I mine as well just go in my fundoshi!”
Kurama gave him a disgusted look as some other shoppers quickly walked away from them and said, “I really don't think Yamakaza-san would like that nor would anyone else.”
Neko thought a moment before saying, “You're right, she screamed when she saw me one time in my fundoshi.”
“…I'll pretend I didn't hear that. I'll go pay for those,” as he reached for the trunks.
“No need, Kudaku-san helped me get a job after school, I can pay,” Neko told him as he went to the register.
Kurama looked surprised that Neko actually had a job and he went after him, “You have a job?”
“I'm a part-time Day-Care helper,” as he gave the trunks to the casher.
“Day-Care helper but don't you have to have-”
“Kudaku-san runs the place and she was more than happy for an extra hand. She's never seen the parents more than happy to send their kids to her ever since I started,” he took the bag from the casher, “Thank you. I like the kids and they like me.”
“Wow, there's still things I don't know about you.”

Yamakaza was cleaning her breakfast dishes when sensation ran up her back and she said more to herself, “I suddenly have the feeling I'm about to be kidnapped.” (A/N: really stupid to say, I know, but it fits.)
And just like she thought Opal and Izu grabbed and blindfolded her. Yamakaza was gave a good fit of struggles in a mock attempt to escape them but in the end they put her into a van and off they went. All the way to their destination Yamakaza was pouting for not being able to finish her research.
Kurama told everyone as the van stopped, “We're here!”
Yamakaza attempted to step out but someone picked her up and before she knew it she was thrown into the water with a cry of surprise. When she surfaced the blindfold came off and she was glaring angrily at her group of friends. “You are so dead,” she told Neko with an evil smile slowly creeping on her face like a slug.
“You have to catch me!” he called and then took off down the beach with Yamakaza hot on his tail, literally.
“Well she seems to be doing better,” Kurama commented as he helped with getting the picnic basket and beach toys out of the van.
They suddenly heard Neko shout and came running back towards them but instead of stopping he kept going. Yamakaza stopped in front of them gasping but with a smile on her face. Everyone just looked at her and finally she said rather stupidly, “He got crab on tail.”
Opal and Izu started to laugh even as Neko came back over to them with the crab in his hand.
“Fried crab, anyone?” Neko mildly joked as he held up the crab.
The small group of friends sat down to eat dinner of the beach after spending most of the afternoon playing children games everyone was relaxed. Neko and Opal even tricked Izu into sticking his head into a hole in the sand as a wave crashing in on him. Izu nearly suffocated in sand if not for Kurama and Yamakaza pulling him out in time.
After they ate everyone just sat in the sand to watch the sunset or just laid back and looked at the sky. No one noticed Yamakaza's eyes go dull as she looked at the sky above from her laying spot. Being on the beach brought back some memories of her own childhood and Chikako's. In Chikako's brief memory flash, Yamakaza saw a young man that saw recognized from her Takashi history lessons. She shot up and cried, “Yuma-kun!”
Everyone turned to her and Opal asked confused, “Crazy friend says what?” (A/N: My friend who this character is based on says this.)
“Yuma-kun! He was one of the orphans that the Clan took in when Chikako-sama was sixteen! He loved Chikako-sama and hated Neko-kun for having her love,” she told them.
Neko didn't even turn as he told them, “I remember him…he was jerk!”
Kurama asked just to enlighten the rest of the group, “Why was he a jerk, Neko-kun?”
“You should remember Kurama-kun, the guy that was ten years younger than me and Chikako-san. He had a crush on Chikako-san and he always challenged me because of it. Claiming I was unworthy of her love.”
“And he was the only other person outside the Clan that knew the Soul Transfer jutsu!” Yamakaza added. “That's why the Itsumaru-kun that attacked us didn't know who Izu-kun was! Yuma-kun must've used it so he could keep Neko-kun from winning against him!”
“The Soul what?” Opal asked since she never heard or read about it and she heard and read everything about the Takashi Clan.
“It's an ancient and forbidden jutsu that allows you to transfer your soul into a corpse but at a cost,” Neko told them, “You have to do over a certain amount of good deeds to make up for possessing a dead body if you don't you be immediately sent to Hell and stay there for eternity when the body dies. That's why it's forbidden.”
“Not even I know how to do it only because members that are truly trusted and highly skilled are allowed to learn it,” Yamakaza added.
“So why did you bring that up?” Izu asked who was very curious since she had mentioned his old friends' name.
“Chikako-san taught Yuma-kun that jutsu,” Neko answered before Yamakaza could, “I knew he was up to something when he asked her to teach him that jutsu.”
“I thought you said only trusted members could learn that jutsu?” Opal asked.
“There weren't really set laws back then until Chikako-sama was murdered,” Yamakaza told them as she noticed Neko's ki start to spike and fall repeatedly, “That's when all forbidden jutsus and family secrets were restricted to only to the Clan itself and then to highly trusted and skilled members. That's how I learned the Speed jutsu, it's also forbidden, and yet it's the only one I'm allowed to know, why else do you think I look older than I actually am.”
“Why would Chikako-san teach Yuma-kun a jutsu like that to him?” Kurama asked.
“Everyone fears death and Takashi's are no exception to it. She was probably hoping he would use it to help people when he got too old but I don't know. Her reasoning about her choices in her life I have yet to understand or gain.”
“Kurama-kun, tell Yusuke-kun that our little match might happen sooner than expected,” Yamakaza told Kurama as she stood and stretched after a moment.
“You meant Yusuke-kun…and fought him,” as Kurama raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, but we made a deal. He wouldn't tell anyone about me until I got the information I needed to prove Neko-kun's innocents in exchange for a fight with me.”
“I know you're skilled but what about-” Opal started.
“His Rei Gun, hee,” as she smiled at them before falling back onto the sand, “You don't think my mother wouldn't teach me how to cancel it out do you?”
“Wait, you know how to do that?” Kurama asked in disbelief.
“Where else do you think Keonma-sama knew about it? My mother was one of the best Reikai Tanteis in Reikai. Just ask Keonma-sama later about the Red Eyed Human Tantei.”
“No way! Your mom was a Reikai Tantei!” Opal exclaimed.
“Yup, joined when she was fifteen and retired eighteen years ago when she had me. Naturally, Takashis don't like Tanteis but there are a few exceptions. I was very surprised when Yusuke-kun hit me without any restrain.”
“Yamakaza-san,” Kurama groaned, “you have someway to getting under some people's skin.”
“You should've seen me when I was little,” as she smiled while she chuckled.
Soul Transfer jutsu: it's been explained I don't want to explain it again.
