Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Perspective ❯ A Quick Death ( Chapter 12 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Finally I’m back and with relief from the cliffy. Unfortunately for some people, I no longer need character contributions, so don’t send me anymore please. This is a really big chapter, not lengthwise, but with content. Well, on with the story!

Soushiki came closer to Kaomi, hand poised for a fatal attack. For you, time seemed to stand still. Tsunake started to run forward, trying to stop him. Then, you felt a strange energy growing.

Tsunake stopped suddenly, her face flushed. She was breathing hard. Too hard to be normal. Her entire form began to shake.

“Kuh...Kaomi...” her voice dropped an octave, becoming a low growl. Tsunake’s eyes were wide with fear. She opened her mouth and out flowed a liquid moan, frightened at first, then furious. She clutched at her head, skin changing to a dark, black color.

Rows and rows of armored scales replaced her skin. Strange, new muscles rippled in the light. Suddenly, Tsunake lifted her head, howling in rage. Her eyes turned fiercely red.

With a wet crunch, her face shoved outward, becoming a long snout. Smoke trickled from her nostrils and she opened her mouth to hiss, revealing rows of silver teeth.

Soushiki stopped in his tracks, inches away from Kaomi. His face was contorted in fear. You barely noticed that you were clutching fearfully to Hiei as you watched.

The hideous transformation was not complete, however. Wings quite literally exploded from her back. Thy folded promptly, glistening with health. Her arms seemed to wither up and disappear. Long, taloned feet replaced her own dainty legs. But still, the creature was not finished.

It began to grow and grow. The huge reptile towered over them all. The dragon now stood as tall as three men.

Silver markings laced its neck, as did rows of needle-like spines. Its tail beat a heavy pit in the ground. Its eyes gleaming, a long, black tongue tasted the air voraciously. It spread its wings for balance and hopped swiftly. Though it had no arms, you could tell that with one swipe of those feet, you’d be gone.

It raised its horned head, shrieking loudly. Everyone clapped their hand to their now bleeding ears. Only you could not. You could somehow understand the beast.

<So hungry...> it rumbled, sniffing. With a triumphant roar, it leaped, each foot landing on either side of Soushiki. Raising one foot, it almost lovingly pinned him to the ground. Down the massive head came, jaws parting. Drool splattered out of the cavernous mouth, now covering the screaming man.
“Don’t let her eat me!” he screamed to you, eyes wide.

The dragon suddenly slammed its jaws closed. You could hear a wild shriek, rising to an inhumane pitch before, with a heavy, wet crunch, the beast tore off Soushiki’s torso and swallowed it, licking the blood around its mouth.

“Oh god!” you whispered, now free from the chains, burying your face in Hiei’s shirt. You heard a strange snapping noise and you forced yourself to look again. The dragon was snapping at the air with its wide jaws ferociously.

“Tamashii no Taberu...” Hiei muttered, also staring at the dragon.

“What?” you asked, looking up at him.

“She’s a soul eater.”

You slowly pulled yourself away from him and took a few steps towards the massive dragon before you. “You mean like Gouki?”

“No...She’s completely different from him and much more powerful. We may not be safe yet...”

“What do you mean?” you asked worriedly.

“She may come for us next...”

At that moment, the dragon stopped licking the blood from its silver fangs and turned a hungry, red eye to Kaomi. Kaomi’s face lost all color and she started to back away on the floor. The dragon didn’t move a muscle, nor turned its eye away from Kaomi’s frightened figure. Without thinking, you ran between Kaomi and the dragon, arms spread wide.

“_(your name)_!” Hiei shouted, trying to get to you, but he froze when the dragon turned its eyes to him. He slowly reached for his katana. You realized he was getting ready to kill Tsunake to save you.

“No, Hiei wait! I know what I’m doing!” you screamed at him, regaining the dragon’s attention and Hiei sheathed his sword. A large bolt of lightning came down upon the dragon’s head. You turned to Kaomi, who was behind you, shaking with fear.

The dragon barely showed that it had taken any notice of the lightning and looked up curiously. You took a step forward and its attention was drawn once more to you.

“Tsunake..?” you whispered to the dragon. It leaned closer to you eyeing you like a cat watches a bird. “Don’t you remember me? It’s me..._(your name)_...”

The dragon opened its wide jaws, fangs dripping with anticipating drool. It continued to come closer and you closed your eyes tightly, waiting for the fangs to sink into you. To your great surprise, they never did.

You timidly opened your eyes and stared at the dragon. It still had its jaws open, but its eyes were clouded over and distant. Its mouth slowly closed and it stared at you.

<_(your name)_...> you heard in your head, but the dragon only let out a low growl.

Suddenly, the dragon let out an earsplitting shriek and the room was filled with a blinding light. As you slowly recovered your vision, you heard Tsunake sobbing uncontrollably. You finally saw her curled up on the floor.

“Tsunake!” you shouted, pulling her up int a sitting position. She leaned forward so she was up on her hands and knees and started to cough.

“I...just...just...” she coughed and threw up. It was horrifying. Bits of Soushiki’s flesh and a mass of his blood came from her mouth. The sight of it made her throw up again. She quickly turned away from it to prevent seeing it once more.

“I just...ate someone!” she screamed, looking very sick.

“Yeah, but if you hadn’t, he would have killed Kaomi.” you said, rubbing her back to relieve her nausea. She looked up at you, eyes shining with tears and she gave a weak smile.

“We should go” Kurama said, helping Tsunake stand up.

“Wait there’s something strange about this place.” Kaomi said, taking a few small steps towards an old door. “I think we should look around.”

No one said otherwise, so all of you followed her through the door. As you stepped through, you bumped into Kaomi, who had stopped.

“What’s wrong?” you asked her, stopping as well.

“Look...” she said, her voice shaky, pointing to a far wall. You looked to where she was pointing and you gasped at the sight.

How did you like it? The whole part about the dragon transformation was written by Tsunake, not me. I’m so glad that you readers still support my story. *Throws chocolate at everyone* I hope that chocolate will last you until next chapter. Well, until then, sayoonara!
