Chapter 9
Yusuke sat pondering as the rain fell outside of the small hamburger shop. He had ordered a nice juicy eight ounce burger but it just sat there and got cold as he stared blankly at the rain. Something had been bothering him. Why couldn't he feel that energy pulse anymore? If it was a living creature it should still have the pulse. And what puzzled him even more was the fact that the energy in the pulse was unclassifiable. He wasn't much for energy evaluation but he could not tell whether the mummy lady was a demon, a human or a psychic of some sort. Yusuke shook his head, "I'll let Kurama figure it out."
Kuwabara on the other hand didn't seem perturbed at all. He had wolfed down four hamburgers, two milkshakes and an order of chili fries. "Yo, Urameshi, are you using that?" Kuwabara asked greedily eyeing Yusuke's hamburger. Yusuke shook his head, "Nah, you can have it." "Alright!" Kuwabara exclaimed happily loading the hamburger onto his plate. He took a huge bite out of the burger and then guilt set in, "Uh, Urameshi? What's up? You look…mad…or somthin." Yusuke grinned and replied, "Me, mad? About what?" "Uh, I dunno, maybe the fact that Kayko didn't accept you apology yesterday." Kuwabara replied. "Oh shut up Kuwabara! I'm not angry about that!" Yusuke replied angrily. Kuwabara gave him a wry smile, "Heh, heh, I think you are!" "I think you face is missing something…my fist!" Yusuke said winding up for a punch.
Suddenly a cheerful voice said, "Oh, hello, Yusuke…I did get that right…you're Urameshi right?" Yusuke whirled around and saw Sasuke standing there smiling, "Oh! Yeah! I'm Yusuke! I was just going to punch out my friend, but seeing you showed up, inviting you to eat seems like better idea. Have a seat!" "Thanks! Who's your friend?" Sasuke asked as Kuwabara gaped. "My name's Kazuma Kuwabara! I am a real man!" Kuwabara said striking a heroic pose.
Yusuke and Sasuke stared at him nervously. "He's a bit lame, I know." Yusuke said a little embarrassed. "Oh…oh no! I think that he's really charming. It's so hard to find a real man now. Tell me…are you a fighter?" Sasuke asked smiling sweetly. "Only for a pretty damsel in distress like yourself, uh…what's your name?" Kuwabara asked. "Just call me Yashasama." Sasuke replied.
Kuwabara leaned over to Urameshi, "Hey man, you pick up the hottest girls! Where'd you find her?" "She moved in next door." Yuske muttered. "Guess, I'm gonna be spending a lot of time at your apartment then, hee, hee." Kuwabara grinned. "Think again! Don't you have Yukina?" Yusuke knocking Kuwabara on the head with a plate. "Don't you have Kayko?" Kuwabara retorted holding his head. "I'm not dating her! She just moved in and was friendly." Yusuke replied. "Yeah? Just how friendly?" Kuwabara asked giggling like a little boy. "That's it! You're pudding!" Yusuke shouted about to bring his fist crashing into Kuwabara's face.
"Sorry, I'm late, Yusuke." Kurama said. Yusuke paused, "Yeah no problem." "Who's your friend?" Kurama asked. Sasuke smiled alluringly and said, "It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Sasuke Yashasama. And you are?" Kurama politely kissed her extended hand and replied, "Suichi Minamino. Please have a seat." "Why thank you! You are a gentleman." Sasuke replied gently sitting down.
Suddenly something triggered a strange response through Kurama. "Her eyes. They look so familiar." He though hard. He did not have the time to think about it long because Hiei suddenly appeared next to her. Sasuke sent him a clairvoyant message, "You give me away…they'll die." "You can't do shit." Hiei replied telepathically. "Can't I?" Sasuke replied. She blinked only once and a large cut appeared on his hand and began to bleed profusely.
"Oh my!" Sasuke exclaimed and grabbed a cloth napkin. She quickly grasped his hand and applied pressure to the wound. A violent blush swept over both of their faces. "She…touched me again…" Hiei thought. "I can't believe that I'm holding him like this." Sasuke thought. Sasuke smiled and said, "I wonder what could have given you that." Hiei growled, "I wonder, myself." "Please, have a seat." Sasuke said motioning for him to be seated.
Sasuke ordered a milkshake and sat pleasantly making polite proper conversation. A short spurt of energy shot through her system. "A flock of demons! Lower-d class but there's a lot of them! Coming this way! About a block away! They're heading for us! I have to tell them!" She thought frantically.
"Yusuke," She began, "What if I told you a secret?" Yusuke had been laughing a few minutes ago but he stopped when he saw how serious Sasuke suddenly looked, "Like what?" "Like I'm a psychic and I feel an evil presence coming this way." Sasuke said quickly getting up from her spot and beginning her defense stance. "And I'm supposed to do what about it?" Yusuke asked trying to keep his job a secret. "Look, I know about your job so get out there with me and kick some butt! Let's move!" Sasuke said about to leave. "Wait a minute. Kurama and Kuwabara, do you guys sense anything out there?" Yusuke asked. "A faint pulse of low demon energy." Kuwabara replied. Kurama squinted his eyes and said, "Yes, but there are a lot of them! Look out!"
The pane glass window shattered as at least fifty demons leapt through the glass. Other customers ran screaming for their lives but Sasuke stood there as the wave of demons flooded around her. Suddenly there was a brilliant flash of blue light and they disappeared. Sasuke smiled and held up her hand which was glowing blue, "Alright! There's enough for everyone! Let's get `em!"
Hiei unsheathed his sword and disappeared into the fray. Kurama summoned his Rose Whip with a little difficulty and Kuwabara leapt into the black living mass and hacked away with his Spirit sword. Yusuke fired a shotgun round and knocked about thirty of the new wave off the list. Hiei used his swordsmanship and took off another forty or so. Kurama killed about thirty and Kuwabara killed off twenty-five.
The thing that amazed them was what Sasuke did. She made a strange sign with her hands and then said, "Master Copy! HA!" Suddenly they looked around and saw doubles of themselves and of Sasuke. Then she picked up a hamburger roll which had fallen onto the ground and with a glow of golden light she had transformed it into a large throwing star.
"Spirit Star! HEYA!" Sasuke shouted and threw it at her opponents as they clamored to get near her. A demon crept up behind her and was about to stab her. She turned around and it was already dead. Hiei looked cockily back at her and resumed battle. Sasuke stood there stupefied, "He…he was looking out for me?"
When the last of the demons fell Sasuke stepped forward and whispered, "Eternal Cleansing." The bodies and all of the blood disappeared and the memories of the people who had not fought were erased. "That's a high level technique. Where did you learn it?" Kurama asked. Sasuke smiled and said, "A secret promise, is a secret promise. I can't tell you. Good bye for now!" With that she promptly disappeared.
