Chapter 3: Prince Charming

Author's Note: First of all, I'd like to thank those of you who reviewed and commented on what you thought of my story. It's the reviews that encourage me to keep going, so please continue to do so. Now, enough with the mushiness, let us move on to chappie #3.

Warnings: Hmm, nothing too extreme in this chappie, sorry kiddies! Oh, and while we're at it, for those of you who love Keiko/Yusuke pairings, you might be in for a surprise…umm you'll see later on in the story.

Disclaimer: You know what, screw this, just read the two previous disclaimers I wrote since I'm so freaking tired of repeating the same thing over and over again.

He held her tight as wet, warm tears darkened his fuchsia school uniform. He couldn't bear to see her like this. This was because when she was sad, he was also sad. He didn't know when he had fallen for her, he only knew now that he was deeply in love with her. Of course, he was filled with grief knowing that she belonged to someone else and not him. That damn detective, he didn't deserve her.

Her crying had quieted down to a few sniffles, but she still held onto him as she leaned her head on his comforting shoulder. It felt so nice to have someone hold her with such care while she let out all the frustrations and pain that she had kept inside since that stormy night, one week ago. Keiko of course, was never one to keep in her emotions and feelings. She spoke her mind, stood up for what was right, and fought against what was wrong, no matter what the odds were. However, she had not wanted her friends to worry and fuss over her, so she kept quiet and tried to act as normal as she could. It only made things worse that Yusuke had also stopped showing up at school altogether since their fight. She had been distracted that whole week, and her grades had dropped so much that even the teachers began worrying about her, asking if everything was alright. Then, just when she was about to burst, he showed up at her door, concerned for her welfare. At first she tried to lie, saying that she was just tired. She should have known that he could sense her lies. When he confronted her about her lies, she finally cracked and let it all spill out, tears, pain, feelings and everything else that had suffocated her inside. He said nothing, simply let her cry on his shoulder and listened to her problems.

// He always was such a caring and sweet person// She thought, as she snapped back to reality and realized how close they were. She leaned back against the couch, blushing a bright red.

“Um…sorry,” she said timidly, as she scooted away some more to put some space in between them.

If he had noticed her discomfort, he showed no sign. He simply looked at her with a confused look in his eyes. “Why, whatever for?” he asked her.

“You know, for making you listen to my problems…and for crying on your shoulder and getting your uniform wet.' she said, pointing to the darkened spot on his shoulder.

“It's nothing at all,” he said, as he gave an amused laugh, “In fact, if anything, I'm glad you finally let out all those problems. You of all people should know that it's never healthy to keep feelings bottled up inside,” he told her, hoping to make her feel less embarrassed about the whole situation. “Are you feeling better now?”

“Yes…I do. I never knew it was so hard keeping everything inside. Thank you so much Kurama,” she told him as she stood up and gave him a grateful bow.

“Keiko, please, it really isn't that big of a deal. I was glad to have helped,” he said, as he stopped her midway and pushed her gently down onto the couch again.

She gave a sigh as she sat back down. “You know, it's funny now that I think about it. I mean, Yusuke and I have known each other since we were little kids. I always knew in my heart one day that we would get married, have kids of our own and live happily ever after,” The brunette explained, as she smoothed invisible wrinkles on her blue skirt, not noticing the slight clenching of the red head's fists as she said those last words. “And even as we grew up, “ she continued, “ I still had that dream. Of course, there was that unexpected twist of him turning out to be a spirit detective and all those chaotic missions after that, but even so…even when he left me hanging so many times, I waited for him. I was…I was stupid,” she said softly, “ I actually thought fairytales would come true…I always thought Yusuke would be my Prince Charming…in a strange sort of way. …” She trailed off, afraid that she would cry again as a sorrowful look came into her sienna eyes.

A warm finger wiped a tear away from her eyes, as she gave a small gasp, not realizing that she had cried again. The same finger that had wiped her tear away, made its way gently down her cheek, tracing her jaw line, until the finger was replaced by a warm hand touching her cheek.

“Ku-Kurama?” She asked, her tear stained face looking up into darkened emerald eyes.

“What…what are you doi-“ Keiko asked, but was cut off by a pair of warm lips.

She was paralyzed with fear for a moment, not reacting to his kiss, but not pushing him away either.

// Why aren't you pushing him away Keiko, he's just a friend to you remember? Yusuke is your… // but the thought halted at that as Keiko remembered that things between her and Yusuke had ended a week ago. But was she ready for someone else so soon?

//But his kiss is nothing like Yusuke's. It's so soft and gentle. // She thought, as she gave herself over to the gentle way Kurama's lips caressed hers.

She gave a soft sigh as she unconsciously wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer to her. He made no move to push her any further. His arms wrapped around her waist, but did not stray further. His kiss seemed so full of love and care and she wanted it to last forever.

He had loved her for so long that when he saw her cry again, he felt the need to make her forget the raven-haired detective and show her how she should truly be loved. Kurama was gentle however. He was no fool and knew that simple lust would never win over Keiko's heart. He would show her just how much he loved her one step at a time. Although he hated seeing his love in such pain, he did not regret her breakup with Yusuke one bit. If the ex-detective did not know how to truly love a woman, he would show him and then he would make Keiko his. It was Yusuke's loss and purely his gain.

As wonderful as the kiss was, all good things come to an end and this was no different when the two had to break the kiss for air.

She looked at him with flushed cheeks, not knowing what to say. However, before she could manage to say something, she felt something light drop in her lap. She turned her head to look down when a hand cupped her chin before she could even look, and pulled her head up to gaze into amber tinted, emerald eyes. She found it quite hard to breathe at that moment, having never seen something so beautiful and enchanting, but then again, she supposed that pretty much summed up who Kurama was.

“That fool of a detective does not deserve you,” spoke a deep voice that sounded like Kurama and yet, did not.

“If you will allow it, I hope that one day, I will become your prince, dear princess,” he said, grazing her swollen lips with his own once more before he was gone and all Keiko managed to see and hear, was a red blur and the soft click of the door closing.

“Kurama wait!” Keiko stood up, but he was already gone. She brought her fingers up to touch her lips, blushing at the memory of the kiss they had shared.

//Oh no, I had forgotten about it// Keiko thought as she remembered faintly that Kurama had dropped something onto her lap.

She looked down and a smile graced her lips when she saw what it was. She picked it up, holding it in one hand as she sat back down. How just like him to have given her something like this. In a way, it symbolized Kurama perfectly. Both the object and he were beautiful…and dangerous. She had seen Kurama face enemies before from the Dark Tournament and knew that he held no mercy for them.

//Am I really ready to move on though or did I react that way earlier because I saw him as a rebound? // Keiko thought to herself, her smile weakening a bit. No, she would never see him like that. His kiss proved to Keiko that he was the perfect guy and above all, he hadn't treated her in that lustful, desperate, too much teenage hormones way, but in a loving, Kurama way altogether.

She would still need some time before starting a relationship with Kurama, and for the moment, her heart couldn't take it yet. Nonetheless, she was already happy to have such a caring friend. She was both touched and surprised when she found out that his feelings for her were beyond that of a mutual friend's. Up until now, she had never really gotten that close to the kitsune. As for his appearance, she always did find him attractive, but Keiko was beyond looks and so never really paid close attention to him. She supposed in due time, she could possibly come to love him. A sharp pain ran across her chest when she thought of love and Yusuke. She still loved him, but if so, what were these new feelings she had for Kurama? She didn't know at the moment, but hoped that she would somehow be able to find a solution to her problems. All she knew, was that he had been here for her when her heart was broken and when no one seemed to understand her. It was he who comforted her, not Yusuke. She was confused. She did not know what to make of this. All her life, she had been so consumed and in love with Yusuke that she never thought it possible to love or be loved by another man. Just thinking about all of this had already made the young girl frustrated. All she knew, was that she still loved Yusuke, but was beginning to like Kurama in more than just a mutual way as well. Her reaction to his kiss had proven that.

She gave a tired sigh as she leaned back into the couch. To take her thoughts away from the dilemma, she suddenly remembered Kurama's last request. For a moment, she stared off into space, debating whether or not to let him into her heart and give him a chance. She was heisitant, but at the same time, wanted to move on with her life. If she could not forget about Yusuke, then she would simply lock her love for him away forever. That would be the only solution. Yes…she would start over.

// Kurama would make quite a Prince Charming // She thought, smiling.

Life seemed more hopeful now and Keiko was suddenly looking forward to seeing Kurama.

“Until next time,” Keiko said aloud, as she brought his gift up to her lips, and pressed a soft kiss into the red, silky petals of the rose.

A/N: Well now, bet you guys didn't see that coming did you? Yusuke will make another appearance soon enough, so don't worry! Okay, I'm hoping to get a lot of feedback. Until then,
