~Story Start~
The atmosphere was heavy with tension, mostly coming from our team, as we continued to have a 'stare' off with the masked team in front of us. I, however, was in my own thoughts thinking about what had transpired before the match just minutes ago. What did Kane really want from me? If I hadn't walked away or had a match, what would he have said to me? Or did he just want to lose focus during my match? Whatever his intention was, I believe it was working considering I was still shaking over this. I clenched my fists tightly against my side, my match was going to be over quickly if I don't stop. I was already at a disadvantage thanks to me leaving my Katana at the hotel. God dammit, this is so bad!
Hearing footsteps behind us, we all turned, seeing Botan helping a pain filled Kuwabara onto the grass. “Oh look, he's off his sick bed, now that he's fully recovered I'm sure he'll be great help.” Yusuke said sarcastically, turning back to Team Masho, eyes narrowed.
“Kuwabara is not the only one low on his power.” Kurama stepped forward, looking at the Masked Fighter, Yusuke following his gaze. “That special attack drained her considerably.” He explained
*Fuck, I knew it!* I cursed in my head loudly.
“So it's four non-gimps against the six of them.” Yusuke said, a deep frown on his lips.
Kurama said nothing, but he glanced at Hiei, and I did as well. My eyes traveled to his arm, it still chard and and painful looking. Shit, now it's only three of us against the six of them, if that arm looks as bad as it feels, Hiei won't be able to fight effectively against these guys. I stiffened when I noticed Hiei glaring at me, probably already knowing what I was thinking, damn telepath. I looked away, turning my gaze back onto Team Masho. They all were strong, there wasn't any doubt about that, and I felt dread wash over me. This fight is going to be hard, just like Yusuke said it would be in the last chapter.
“Who wants to begin?” A voice suddenly asked, and we all turned to Team Masho, seeing them in front of us. Shit. “The first can be captain.”
A burst of light blue Spirit Energy swarmed around one of the robed men, and the wind suddenly picked up. The robes around the man fluttered around agains the strong wind before it flew off, revealing the person beneath it. My eyes widened when I saw a man who looked really familiar. He had thick shoulder length red hair with a little horn on his head. He had bright blue eyes and wore a white garment, resembling a toga, with white, baggy pants which were held up by a blue obi sash and arm guards, both sporting a prominent red gem in the center. All and all, he looked really cute :) ...What? I can think another guy is cute, it's not like I'm in love with Hiei or anything! -///- (*coughs awkwardly*)
The wind and Spirit Energy whipped around him, tousling his red hair slightly, and he held a smile on his lips. . “I'll go and take those ningens then.” The red haired man, Jin, said, his voice coated with a thick Irish accent.
“Jin the Wind-master, well that would explain who this team is.” Kurama said, eyes narrowed on them.
“Wow,” I mumbled, eyes still on Jin. “I never thought we'd face them.”
Yusuke looked at Kurama and I, eyes narrowed in confusion. “You two know these jokers?” He asked, raising an eyebrow at us.
“Indeed, most youkai do.” Kurama kept his eyes locked on them for moment. “Team Masho must be pseudonym, their actual names are the Shinobi of Reikai.” He explained, turning to Yusuke once again, while I only nodded mutely.
“Shinobi?” Yusuke rose an eyebrow. “So what the hell does that mean?”
Jade-hued eyes went back to Team Masho, narrowing even more. “They are stealth fighters, deadly mercenaries to the highest bid. A dispute arises in Reikai, and they solve it in secret. You are familiar with their other name, aren't you?” Hearing footsteps coming towards us, Kurama finished. “The ninja.”
Jin was walking towards us, a wide grin on his lips, the Sprit Energy making his hair fly straight up. However, as he walked forward, his Spirit Energy dissipated and the glow disappeared. It was then that I found out that Jin was a lot taller than he looked from back there. Stopping in front of Yusuke, he was a good few inches taller than him, and I pouted slightly. Dammit, another person who makes me feel short. But I let it go, following Kurama, Hiei and The Masked Fighter down to the grass.
“Team Captains, please decide the battle terms.” Koto announced, looking at the two.
The two Team Captains stared each other down, just like in every match that went down. I let out a tired yawn, seeing them just exchange looks for the past few seconds. Jin was only smirking, while Yusuke glared at him intimidatingly. The youkai in the crowd were cheering on Jin's team, even though there wasn't any fighting at all. I was really not going to like this fight, everything was already making me irritable, I just wanted this match over with. Damn you Kane, just damn you to hell.
“Lets fix these stakes simple enough, one-to-one till I'm a tirin' on my feet holding a five.” Jin said quickly as he smirked at Yusuke, making me stare at him with wide eye. Uh...what?!
(A/N: I got the first half, but he's so hard to understand sometimes I couldn’t get the rest xD)
“...Whatever he said.” Yusuke said slowly.
Koto watched the two fighters as Jin began to circle around Yusuke. “Jin has asked for a series of one-on-one matches with the advancing team taking five wins, and Yusuke gives the nod.” She translated, now both fighter circling one another, making me raise an eyebrow.
"A damn-near pleasant wind be filling the air now." Jin stopped and Yusuke doing the same, both facing their teams. “Tell a person by their wind, and yours is the kind I like Urameshi.” He said smirking slightly.
Yusuke sent Jin a raised eyebrow, but Jin said nothin else and he walked towards his team. Yusuke did the same after a second, a confused look on his face. I on the other hand was about to laugh at Jin's words, even if I was not in the mood to laugh, that was just weird and slightly awkward! I obviously knew what he meant, but he really shouldn't have worded it like that at all. However, my moment of childishness didn't last for too long, the same melody rang through the air, and we all waited for the woman's voice once again.
“May I have your attention please,” The same woman spoke again. “The Tournament Committee will be instituting a medical examination before the next round.” The Voice explained, and I glared at the air, great.
“What is this? Gym class?” Yusuke asked annoyed, jumping onto the grass.
“Due to the Urameshi Team fighting without rest, and in accordance to Section 13 of the Tournament Index, report to the medical tent.” The woman continued, and I narrowed my eyes in suspicion at the announcement, something doesn't feel right.
“Just as long as they don't grab my balls and make me cough.” Yusuke said, eyes narrowed.
I would have said something, but I wasn't in the mood to. I looked at the Medical Tent that seemed to magically appear to our rights. My eyes narrowed at it, this seems really strange and too much of a coincidence. I wasn't sure if I was just being extra cautious after what happened to me or not, but something just did not seem right. That fucking Tournament Committee can't be trusted, even thought that should have been completely obvious to me at this point, but lay off me. Snapping out of my thoughts once again, I narrowed my eyes even more when I saw some woman with long red hair and brown eyes walk out of the tent.
“Scratch that.” Yusuke mumbled.
Throwing a glare at him, I stomped my foot on his, making him flinch and clench his teeth. “Don't act like a pervert now Yusuke, she could be working with the committee to kill us.” I mumbled, an irk mark on my temple, stupid teenage boys and their hormones.
Yusuke nodded, rubbing his foot. “Gotcha.” He said with a sweat drop.
When I looked back at him, he was just watching the woman again, a glazed look in his eyes. I rolled my eyes, one girl sways her hips as she walks and he goes gaga over her. What Keiko sees in him is beyond me sometimes, but I couldn't help but feel a little threatened by her, and no I don't mean that I want all the guys to only like me! I mean she was really pretty and us girls always feel threatened when that happens, especially because she was prettier than me. Despite myself, I glanced at Hiei who was to my left, and sighed in relief when I saw him just staring on annoyed. Thank god.
“Hello gentlemen,” The woman said flirtatiously at the three boys in front of her, but her smile dropped when she saw me. “And girl.” That was very flat and uncaring, and I only rolled my eyes, that was typical.
Ignoring me she held up her hand, stepping closer to my team. She held her hand in front of us, moving it over us as she went by. She stopped, however, when she reached Hiei and the Masked Fighter, and I tensed ever so slightly at that. I swear, if she does anything to them I was going to rip off her whore face! I glared at her as she looked at Hiei and the Masked Fighter with a smirk, and I quickly got an irk mark, I really don't like this girl at all. If she tries anything with Hiei I swear... Wait, why the hell am I being so protective over Hiei right now? I shouldn't care and I don't!
“Yes, you two fighters please follow me to the Medical Tent.” The woman said smiling, her eyes on Hiei.
Hiei rose an eyebrow at her, a hint of a glare in his eyes. “Don't be ridiculous, we need no attention. Why don't you go nurse the fool lying on his back?” He asked annoyed, eyes narrowing on her.
“Because his wounds do not interest me in the way yours do, Hiei.” The woman said, a suggestive smirk. “Hm, maybe I can help you.” Her smirk getting wider as she saw Hiei's eyes widen slightly. My right eye twitched, calm down Kira, don't get involved, just ignore it.
The two followed her, and I let out a sigh of relief that I didn't say anything, that would have definitely made Hiei suspicious. However, despite my anger towards that woman, I couldn’t help but get that suspicious feeling once again. Calming down, I let my eyes travel over to the window that held the Tournament Committee, they're up to something. Glancing back at the Medical Tent, I saw the woman sitting down in a chair, Hiei and the Masked Fighter standing in front of her. Something about that smirk she held on her lips just made me feel like something bad was going to happen. Feeling that I wasn't thrashing anymore and that I was finally being serious, Kurama let me go, while I turned my gaze to the TC window once again.
However, when I did just that, I saw two people standing below it. Toguro and Kane. Seeing Kane again made me stiffen slightly, great now he was going to watch me fight?! What the hell else can go wrong today? Turning my gaze away quickly, I controlled my emotions and made it appear that I saw nothing. But the fear that coursed through my veins made me shake slightly, and I cursed at myself over and over again. I just need to be the first to fight and get my mind off of Kane, anything to make myself forget that he was even here! That was easier said than done, seeing as how I could feel his cold and still angry gaze on my back, making a shiver run up and down my spine. Fuck my life and my luck!
“Kira,” Kurama mumbled, and I turned to him. “You're unnaturally quiet, are you feeling all right.” He asked.
I let out a sigh. “Yeah, a lot of shit has happened today thought.”
Kurama shook his head slightly, eyes narrowing suspiciously at me. “You seem paler, if you're not feeling well you should let us know.” He was serious, and I could tell he was seeing through my lie, although it wasn't hard, I sucked at lying.
“When am I never pale, Kurama?” I attempted a weak joke, but failed.
“Kira.” Kurama said warningly.
“I'm fine, really.” I smiled up at him, even if it was forced I did appreciate that he was concerned about me, but I didn't want to let anyone know. If they worried about me then that would only make me think more about Kane, I don't need that. “Don't worry about me, we just have to worry about the fight right now. As things stand right now, it's going to be a bitch to win.” I said seriously, my eyes narrowing slightly.
Kurama said nothing more, and I could tell he didn't buy it, but I was thankful that he didn't say anything more about it. I let myself glance at where Kane had stood before, and I saw him smirk down at me once again. Tensing up at that smirk, it looked as if he knew that something was going to happen. Forcing a glare in my eyes, I looked back at where Hiei and the Masked Fighter were. My suspicion coming back to that woman, but I kept my gaze on Hiei. I really hope he can see through her as I can, or he at least gets out of there and back over here where it's safe, the Masked Fighter too of course.
“Are you experiencing any fatigue or sharp, reoccurring pains?” The woman asked, looking at her clipboard, pulling me out of my thoughts, and I was thankful for the distraction.
The Masked Fighter stared blankly. “No.” She said.
The woman turned her gaze back to the fire youkai who was narrowing his eyes in his annoyance. I could already tell he was annoyed about the fact that he probably wouldn't be 'fit' to fight. “And you Hiei? Surely that last attack must have had some affect on you.” The woman said.
“Why do you ask?” Hiei rose an eyebrow. “Isn't it your job to know?”
“I must be hard to fight with your arm in excruciating pain.” The woman smirked when Hiei only narrowed his eyes at her. “Clearly you will both have to stay with me until your health has improved.” She explained.
Hiei's eyes narrowed dangerously at her, she just did the wrong thing by telling him he couldn't fight. Rip her head off Hiei, or better yet cut it off! “I don't go where people tell me to lady, you can treat yourself.” He snapped, turning around, walking back towards us, the Masked Fighter following.
“You tell that bitch, Hiei!” I shouted, punching my fist in the air.
Hiei, however, ignored me, and for good reason too. As he and the Masked Fighter were about to leave the Medical Tent, lightning began to crack, and the nurse's Spirit Energy suddenly shot through the roof. My eyes widened as I saw a barrier of lightning appeared around the Medical Tent, trapping the two inside. My mouth dropped open in shock and in anger, dammit I knew that she would was with the Committee and trying to kill us! But did Yusuke listen to me, no I don't think he did! He was too busy staring at that skank of a nurse!
“What?!” Hiei asked, eyes widening slightly.
The Masked Fighter took a step back, eyes narrowing at the barrier. “Quickly, it's a trap!” Both ran forward a the same time, however when they tried to get out of the tent, all they did was get shocked by the electricity.
I so wanted to rip my hair out of my head right about now. How could this day possibly get any worse?! First I find out I was kidnapped, then I have to deal with the troll doctor, after that we have to fight a new Team even though we don't have enough people who can fight, I get attacked by Kane in a fucking hallway, Kane is here to watch my fight which is really making me unfocused, and now Hiei and the Masked Fighter are being held in a fucking barrier and can't help us fight! I ask again, could this day possibly get any worse than it already has?! I think it can!
Yusuke, Kurama and I ran forward, our eyes wide. “Dammit, what's happening to them Kurama?” Yusuke asked, turning to the kitsune to his left.
“It's a force field.” Kurama stated with narrowed eyes.
“Well isn't that convenient.” Yusuke glared, he turned back to the nurse, running after her. “Hey, red head, why do I get the feeling you'r not a licensed nurse?!” He shouted sarcastically, clenching his hand into a fist.
I was right behind him, finally I can beat the shit out of her! However, before Yusuke and I could even get close to her, a force field wrapped itself around her, making us both stop, lightning crackling and licking at our skin quite painfully. I stepped back, hissing under my breath, rubbing the small burns that appeared on my arms. I looked back up, only to see the woman take off her belt that was around her uniform before taking that off as well. The only things keeping her from being completely exposed were little yellow tubs that were wrapped around her torso an upper thighs. I resisted the urge to smack my head against the ground or wall, what the fuck was that?!
“What the...?!” Yusuke asked, raising an eyebrow.
“That's right Yusuke, enchantress is more like it.” The woman said, ignoring me.
Yusuke kept his gaze on her, and I stopped myself from crashing my foot somewhere he wouldn't like it to be smashed. Stupid ningen teenage boys. “Yeah, that was my second guess.” Yusuke mumbled, a bit distractedly, while I only rolled my eyes at that.
Suddenly, yellow Spirit Energy began to swarm around her body, the lightning doing the same. I could tell that we weren't going to get to her at all with that shit around her. Dammit, I really wanted to punch her face in! “Ruka is my name, regarded as the most talented creature alive in spell defense and incantations.” Ruka said with a proud look on her face, and her explanation only proved my point. Fuck.
“We are so impressed.” I spat sarcastically, and I ignored her glare.
“Spell Defense? What is she talking about?” I suddenly heard Kuwabara ask weakly. I turned around, seeing the red headed ningen struggling to sit up right, Botan behind him.
Botan narrowed her eyes in worry at the two people stuck behind Ruka's force field. “It's a different way to manipulate Energy, she doesn't have any attack powers, but her defense is so top notch nothing can break through her force field.” She explained, and I glared at that, fuck not even Hiei could break through that thing? Dammit it all.
“I couldn't have said it better myself.” Ruka said concededly.
Yusuke took a step forward, clenching his fist threateningly. “Give me my damn team back!” He snapped, his tone holding anger and frustration, and I couldn't blame him, I felt the same thing.
Ruka smirked at Yusuke's anger, only making him glare harder. “Didn't you hear to the announcement Yusuke?” She held a mocking tone in her voice, and I clenched my fist, damn that stupid bitch! “They're both very sick, they're going to need a little time to recover.” Raising her Spirit Energy once again, she chanted a incantation that I couldn't even begin to identify.
Looking at the two fighters in the force field, I grew worried. The lightning around the barrier swarmed around them, making them step further into the tent out of pain. Hiei let out a grunt of pain, and the Masked Fighter's eye winced slightly as well. Yusuke and I took a step forward, our eyes widening at the sight of their pain. In unison, we both glared at Ruka, clenching our teeth angrily. We couldn't do shit to help them at all, Ruka's force field was too powerful like Botan said.
“You bitch,” I rounded on the red haired woman. “What are you doing to them?” I demanded angrily.
Ruka only laughed at my anger, and I almost started to lunge at her, but Kurama held me back. His eyes were narrowed on the force field, and he began to explain. “That energy thread, it uses their own Spirit Energy against them, the more they struggle the more powerful it becomes.” He said, and I bit my lip.
“Great, just what we need.” I groaned to myself.
The familiar melody played once again around the whole stadium and I glared up at it heatedly . What now?! “As a result of the Medical Examination Hiei and the Masked Fighter have been ruled unfit to fight. They will sit out for the duration of the round while they are suitably treated.” The woman stated, and my mouth dropped open.
I clenched my fist tightly. “Are you fucking kidding me?!” I shouted angrily.
“What the hell is this?!” Yusuke growled to himself, jumping on to the ring, and when he got close enough to Koto, he pointed to her accusingly with a glare. “How can you let them lie like that?!” He demanded, looking as if he was going to punch her.
“I've already told you, I don't have anything to do with these decisions!” Koto looked desperate, causing Kurama and I to jump into the ring, going after Yusuke. “Really, I'm completely neutral!” She cried, scared.
“Wrong, stupid answer!” Yusuke shouted taking a step forward, making Koto jump back and squeal.
Kurama stepped in front of Yusuke, a small reassuring smile on his lips as Yusuke stared up at him confused and annoyed. “It's all right.” He said shortly, and now it was my turn to stare up at him confused. How the hell was any of this all right?! The Committee was trying their hardest to screw up our team and make us lose!
Yusuke narrowed his eyes. “Says who?!” He asked annoyed.
“I agree with Yusuke, this really blows because we have less fighters! I don't mean to doubt us or anything Kurama, but this is bad!” I cried, both threats from my brother and Toguro swarmed in my head, and that was only making me panic more.
“Obviously the Committee is against us, however we have not been hurt. Truthfully the Masked Fighter and Hiei are in no shape to fight at the moment anyway.” Kurama looked at the two in the force field, Yusuke and I doing the same. “Think, why would she only capture two of us when she had the chance to do more? Perhaps her power is not great enough to restrict us all and she took a pair who were too weak to resist the force field. She's helped less than the Committee thinks, this will only give Team Masho a false sense of security, the advantage is ours.” He explained
I felt better, well only slightly, and I turned to Ruka. “Ha, take that Ruka, you're not as powerful as you made yourself to be, you conceded stupid bitch!” I shouted with a laugh in my voice, and she only glared.
I expected Yusuke to be laughing with me, but there was someone else doing that and that made me stop instantly. Yusuke, Kurama and I turned around quickly towards the sound of the laughter, seeing Jin and another man in a dark robe standing in the ring. He had a deep voice, and he was fucking huge as well, which only made it seem to fit. My eyes widened as I stared up at him, feeling small once again. However, I narrowed my eyes seriously, this was no time to act like an idiot.
“Three against six now Jin, you can destroy them all.” The deep voice said, chuckling darkly.
Jin didn't look to happy about the guy next to him, but he made it look like he was just bored. “Naah.” Jin put a pinking in his ear, closing his eyes. “I'm havin' ta chance my mind if it's going to be a fix like that.” Getting an annoyed look on his face, Jin began to walk away. “I don't give a damn, somebody else go, I'm sure I'd rather be the watch now.” He said uncaringly.
“It wouldn't be wise to think you can disrupt the set this time” The deep voiced man grabbed Jin by the shoulder sightly, keeping him from leaving the ring.
Jin stopped and grabbed the man's hand off of him, throwing him a chilling glare. “Don t you ever put your gritty hands on me again!” He warned icily, throwing the mans arm off him, and he walked off the ring. We all watched as he sat up agains the stadium wall, whistling as if nothing had even happened.
“Do not get too upset Bakken, he only wants a true challenge” Another voice spoke next to him, this one less deep, but very mature.
“I could care less, whose fighting them first?!” The gruff voice asked annoyed.
A cloaked figure walked towards them, this one having an dark purple square on the front. We all narrowed our eyes, this signaling the start of the fight, or would if we knew who would fight for our team. I swallowed thickly, and I stood erect, I wasn't so sure about how I would do without my Katana there to protect me, but I was going to give it a shot. I watched as the opponent that I wanted to fight jumped onto the ring, all the other robed fighters watching his movements as well. I shook the negative thoughts out of my head, maybe this would distract me from my thoughts about Kane watching me. ...Fuck I just reminded myself of that! Ignoring that, I felt a gaze on me and I looked up, seeing the purple square guy looking directly at me, or I assumed anyway. Tensing up slightly, I glared, yep I was definitely taking this guy.
“I would like to go first,” The voice that spoke was slightly gruff, but not like Bakken's, but his voice was very sadistic. “And if you wouldn’t mind, I would like to fight the black haired girl, I like to have an easy fight as a warm up.” He said, a smirk was present there.
My glare darkened on him. “I have no objections, asshole.” I spat heatedly, only causing him to chuckle.
“Kira, are you sure? It's not wise to go against an fighter who seems intent on you being their opponent.” Kurama said, his eyes narrowing on the purple square guy, normally I would have agreed with him, but I needed this distraction, very badly.
I let a small smirk fall on my lips. “Don't worry Kurama, I'll be careful.” I said glancing at him.
Kurama looked like he was about to protest, but he reluctantly said nothing. Yusuke and Kurama turned around, jumping onto the grass, while the other team did as well. All that was left were Koto, the purple square guy and I, and the silence that formed around us was thick with tension. I knew that I should have thought rationally about this, but I didn't care, now I was feeling uneasy about this man. Why did he only want me to fight him? I stared suspiciously at him, and watched as he took off his robe. The man that now stood in front of me had creepy purple eyes that almost matched my highlights, and was completely bold. He wore a black wife-beater and matching pants, making me really think of him as a ninja, seeing as how that was the stereotype. Other than that, he looked like a ningen, but he definitely wasn't by his Spirit Energy.
“Kira vs Hisoka, you two may begin!” Koto announced, looking between us.
At first no one spoke, and I was beginning to think that this was going to end up like the battle I had with Kenta, him mocking me because I was a girl, but we just stood our ground, having a glare off. I was unsure if I should go first, knowing that wouldn't be the smartest because I had no idea what this guy could do. However, as the moments passed and none of us did anything, I glared annoyed, getting into a fighting stance. I had no Katana, so I had to be careful, if he had a weapon I needed to keep a very large distance between me and him. Getting the courage to move, I felt the Spirit Energy form around my hands.
“Shadow Fists.” I mumbled.
Dark shadows formed around my fists, the mist coiling and dissipating as I moved my fists higher. Seeing Hisoka not moving just staring at me with a smirk, my eyes narrowed and I sent Spirit Energy into my feet as well to help my speed. Crouching low, I kicked off the ground, running at Hisoka as quickly as I could, my eyes alert to anything that this man could be doing. He did nothing, and I swung rapidly and quickly at Hisoka's chest, only to have him block each and one of them. His hands moved as fast as mine did, catching every powerful blow I threw, and I couldn’t help but notice the smirk that Hisoka was giving me. Glaring harder I sent another punch at his face, only to have him catch it.
Sending another, it crossing over my other hand, Hisoka caught that one as well. Smirking, I gripped both of his hands quickly and jumping into the air, sending my feet under his chin, making his head snap back quickly. Letting go of his hands I began to back flip, my hands about to push themselves off the ground to send me up right, but things never like to go my way. A hand gripped my ankle tightly, and my eyes widened, suddenly thrown into the air, and kicked in the chest. I winced as I grabbed my chest tightly, and felt my back hit the ground, bouncing slightly.
Sliding against the cement, I winced at the burns that began to form on my arms. I cursed, but I knew I was doing better than I was in my first fight, I actually got a hit on my opponent before I was. Wiping away the blood that had fallen from my lips, I stood up again, my eyes glaring dangerously at Hisoka. Clenching my fist, a burst of Spirit Energy went to my hands, making the darkness around them ripple and sway menacingly. However, before I could think of moving towards Hisoka once again, I was suddenly kicked from the side, and a gasp of pain left my lips. But I caught myself, my hands slamming on the ground, and I pushed off, landing back on my feet, although ungracefully.
I grabbed my side, and I let out rueful smirk. “All right, I'll admit you caught me off guard with that one.” I said wincing slightly, I could already tell I was going to have a bruise there for a couple of days, how fun. Not.
Hisoka said nothing, and he disappeared once again. Hearing the disruption of the air next to me, I ducked, barely dodging a punch to the head. Letting out a silent sigh of relief, I dropped to my hands, swinging my leg at his. However he disappeared once again, only to reappear behind me. Tensing up, I couldn’t move I was off balance, and I felt the pain explode against my head as I was sent across the ring once again. I bit my lip, curling into a ball as I put my hand to my head, closing my eyes tightly. Pain filled breaths passed through my clenched teeth, and I let strings of curses repeat in my mind.
“What is this?” Hisoka's voice spoke. “One little kick and you're down? Now this is disappointing, I thought you would be a good opponent, I guess I was wrong.” He said, his voice mocking.
Hisoka frowned as I remained silent, and he walked forward. He had actually been expecting a good fight, especially with the effort that I showed before. Apparently he was wrong, he looked down at me, he let a scoff of utter disgust fall through his lips. Seeing my body shaking in pain and my teeth clenched as I seethed, it made him want to kill me in that second. This was so utterly pathetic, he was actually feeling embarrassed to even be fighting me. Towering over my form, I could feel the glare on my body, and I felt his shadow wash over me.
A smirk fell on my lips. “Hidden Shadow.” I said, looking up with a smile, only to disappear before his eyes.
“After what seemed like a pathetic show of weakness for Kira, it was actually a very convincing performance to get Hisoka to drop his guard, and now she's disappeared completely!” Koto announced.
Hisoka ignored Koto, his eyes snapping in ever direction to find my form. However, nowhere up or down was he able to see me at all, I had actually disappeared from sight. He was wondering if I was using some kind of technique that could cloak me and become visible to even a youkai's eyes, but he knew that no such technique existed. So he just stayed still, watching and waiting for any sort of sound that could help him determine my where abouts.
“Lightning Dagger.”
Hearing my voice speak up behind him, he quickly turned around, expecting me to be standing there. But what he saw was air, I wasn't there either. His eyes furrowed angrily, as he growled under his breath. I, on the other hand smirked, as I suddenly materialized outside of Hisoka's shadow, as if a veil of darkness slipped off my form. In my hand was a small purple like blade, lightning crackling around it silently. I felt surprised gazes on me, and before any of Hisoka's teammates could warn him, I placed the blade at his neck, making Hisoka stiffen under my blade.
I pressed the blade harder, and my eyes narrowed seriously. “Now I want you to tell me why you wanted me to fight you? What do you want?” I growled lowly, having him hit me a couple times finally knocked some sense into me. I got a bad feeling from him.
“I was beginning to wonder if you were ever going to ask, took you long enough.” Hisoka's voice lowered only for me to hear. “Little Akira.”
My eyes widened, my blade fell from my fingers, my sense kicked in quickly and I dodged what would have been a painful hit to the face. I landed near the edge of the ring, my eyes filled with panic. Only one person has ever called me that, and I have never wanted anyone to call me by my full name, so there was no way that another team heard that nickname at all. My breath picked up slightly, and my eyes wondered over to where Kane stood. His sadistic smirk was on his face once again, sending a chill up my spine. Was this why he suddenly decided to talk to me before the match? Shit...
“Who did you hear that name from, Hisoka?” I asked, trying to keep my voice strong.
Hisoka looked at me and he let out a chilling laugh, only adding to the chill that ran up my spine earlier. “You're not dumb little Akira, I know that much, who do you think I heard that from?” He asked, and only laughed more at the horror that spread across my face.
I swallowed thickly, my breathing picking up once again. “Y-you're lying, you're just trying to trick me!” I shouted, panic filling it.
“I assure you I know of Kane, you're loving big brother.” Hisoka grinned sadistically at me, the color draining from my face at the mention of his name. “You know, I've also heard a lot about your past, you know, your parents and how they died. It sounded very gruesome, it must have been terrible to see that when you were only a child, huh little Akira? To see the brother you loved some much kill your father in front of you, the sword ripping through his neck, it-”
“Shut up!” I snapped, tears of anger and sadness beginning to form.
Hisoka threw his head back and laughed at the pitiful show of anger. “Ah, I see, talking about them hits a very soft spot. Good, I can't wait to use that agains you, I'll have to give your brother a thank you for telling me. My special technique will be very useful now.” He said, the tone in his voice making me shutter.
I glared angrily, sucking up the tears that threatened to fall. The darkness around my fist disappeared completely, but an orb of purple Spirit Energy began to form in my palm. I put everything I had into, the lightning crackling around it dangerously as they licked the air hungrily menacingly. My body shook with anger and sadness, and all I wanted to do was see the bastards body burned to a crisp. I wanted to hear his screams of pain, I wanted him to burn in deepest pits of hell.
“I don't think that would be wise.” Hisoka said with a smirk.
“I couldn't give a shit about what you say!” I shouted angrily, my body shaking more and more as I poured my Spirit Energy into my orb. “Lightning Or-”
“Please Akira stop!”
My words got caught in my throat, a gasp escaping my lips, that voice hauntingly familiar. The orb that was about to fly from my hand withered away and died, and my hand dropped to my side in shock. Long, flowing black hair swayed behind a slender figure, their bright red eyes staring into mine, wide and desperate. Where Hisoka had been just seconds before now stood my mother. She looked the same as she did years ago, her pale skin glowing healthily, not the sickly drained color that it was that night. She had been wearing the same clothes that she was last in, however, this time it wasn't stained in blood.
“M-Mom?” I choked out, confusion in my tone. “Wh-What is goi-going on? I..I..?”
A warm smile fell on her lips, and she nodded. “Ssh Akira, it's all right now, calm down.” She said calmingly, her tone soothing just as I remembered it.
Despite my confused and frightened thoughts, my body began to relax. My breathing began to slow down, and I wasn't shaking anymore. However, a sudden flicker out of my peripheral vision made my head snap to the right. My eyes widened in disbelief, I wasn't in the Dark Tournament anymore, I don't even think I was on the same island. I was in the woods, but these were ones that I knew very well. A little house laid not that far away, it traditional and japanese, it's paper sliding doors looked so welcoming. I was home.
“Is that...?” I mumbled, a gasp escaping my lips.
My mother walked over to me, her hand on my shoulder gently, making me flinch at the familiar touch. “Go on, I told you you're all right now, nothing can harm you now.” She said with a giggle in her voice, I slowly nodded, turning back to the house in the distance.
My legs began to move on their own, and I didn't even have to look at the ground, every rock and stick that I had seen as a child was implanted in my mind, and I stepped over them easily. My house was slowly coming closer and closer, and my 'heart' began to pound in my chest. I have no idea why I was even walking over her, it was as if I wasn't even controlling my body right now. But at the same time, I wanted to see what was in there, I wanted to be home again. My feet connected with the wood of my porch, and I grabbed the door, slowly pushing it open. Walking onto the bamboo matts, I saw the familiar family pictures that hung on the walls, our antique furniture, everything looked the same as it did before.
A figure suddenly appeared behind me, and a sigh escaped their lips, making me freeze. “Akira, how many times have I told you to take your shoes off before coming home? I swear you're such a child sometimes.” Despite how it sounded, the voice held a chuckle.
I turned around quickly, my eyes meeting murky red eyes that greatly matched Kane's to a tee. Black hair held natural purple highlights in it, the same as mine. It was a man who looked like he was in his twenties, he was fit and very handsome. I took a step back, my mouth dropping open in shock. How was this even possible? How am I even here? Have I finally gone insane after so long? That seemed like the only reasonable, logical thing I could think of. None of this could be possible, my mother, this house, the woods, and now this?! I had to have gone insane, he couldn’t be here!
“Dad?!”
~No One's POV~
Everyone stood in confusion as they watched the orb that had once been in Kira's hand disappear. Her hand limply falling to her side, and her eyes glazing over as if in a trance. Silence washed over the stadium as confusion began to seep into their thoughts. Wasn't Kira going to fight? Why did she stop her attack? What was going on? All those questions ran through their minds, but none could find the answer. However, their thoughts were interrupted when they heard a chilling laugh fill the air, and all eyes went to Hisoka. His purple eyes gleamed maliciously on Kira's suddenly motionless form.
“What did you do to her?!” Yusuke shouted, his fist clenched. “Kira! Kira wake up, what the hell is wrong with you?!” He shouted as he ran to the edge of the ring where she stood, un-answering.
Hisoka smirked down at the Spirit Detective evilly. “She can't hear you, she doesn't even know she's in this Tournament anymore. You're wasting your breath, no one wakes from my Genjutsu unless I let them.” He explained with a dark chuckle.
Botan narrowed her eyes at him. “Genjutsu, what is that?” She asked angrily.
“Genjutsu is another type of technique that the Shinobi use on their missions.” Kurama narrowed his eyes at Hisoka, and all eyes went to him. “However, it doesn't harm the victim's body, it's an illusionary technique that disrupts their senses into making them see false images.” He explained, a bad feeling washing over him, as well as the others.
“Ah, so even you know about Genjutsu, I applaud you on your knowledge.” Hisoka said sarcastically, but his smirk was still there, despite the glares he got. “This technique is slightly different though, as we speak it is manipulating part of little Akira's brain and it is slowly recreating her traumatic past. And when that happens, I will win, lets just hope that your little friend doesn't go insane before I let her go.” He said sadistically, his grin was wicked and it sent chills down their spines.
All eyes widened on the Urameshi Team, and their eyes went to the small figure that stood only inches away from them. They had no idea what she was going on inside her mind, what kind of horror Hisoka was making her see. All they could do was watch and hope that she found her way out of it, but the smirk that was on Hisoka's face was really hard to ignore. He knew his Jutsu better than anyone else did, and that was making them worried. Even Hiei, if that was even possible for him. However, it was true, his eyes were narrowed on the girl that stood scarily still.
“Hisoka, you've had your fun, now finish the round I'm growing impatient.” A new voice spoke, making all of their attention turn from Kira's body.
Hisoka glared at the voice that spoke, he hated being told what to do, even if that was his leader. However, a smirk fell on his lips and he turned away. “No way, I want to enjoy watching her scream for mercy, now shut up if I miss even a second of it, I'll use my technique on you.” He said maliciously.
“Do you know who you're talking to?!” The voice growled angrily.
Hisoka didn't turn around, but the expression was clear as it was in his voice. “I couldn’t give a damn, I'm doing what I want for a change. If you want to stop me, then go ahead, I don't care if we forfeit the match.” He growled.
Before the man could say anything back, a small noise came from Kira's body. All eyes from the Urameshi Team snapped to her instantly, and they saw the horrified look come into her once dull and emotionless eyes. Tears began to spill from her eyes, and her body began to shake uncontrollably. It was beginning. Hisoka smirked wider and wider, it was only a matter of time before her screams echoed around the stadium. Everything in his body waited eagerly, his purple eyes shining madly. He always loved hearing their screams, its what made fighting in Tournaments so fun. Even if their team didn't win in the Tournament or even win this round, this would make it well worth going against his leader. And his smile only grew louder as the blood curdling scream erupted from the black haired girls lips.
~Your POV,Moments Earlier, Genjutsu~
“Dad?!” I asked, tears forming in my eyes.
My father let out a laugh, that same warm laugh that made a smile light my face whenever I was sad or scared, back when I was child. His murky eyes were bright and warm, something that greatly differed from Kane's, they were so welcoming. Just seeing him smile in front of me was almost enough to make me smile and dry the tears, but the logical part of my brain told me that he wasn't real, he was dead and he was never coming back. I saw Kane kill him, saw the blade split through his neck and go out the back, the blood dripping down. I saw it all.
“What's the matter, you look like you're going to cry?” Dad said, putting his hand on my head, ruffling my hair like he use to do, and I was tempted to pout at the gesture. “You always hated getting making people frown when you were little, I guess that hasn't changed, huh?” He asked taking his hand back, another chuckle falling from his lips.
“Dad wh-what are you doing he-here?” I asked, my voice trembling.
Dad stared at me confused, the smile dropping from his lips, worry filling his eyes as he took in my shaking features. “What are you talking about? I live here Akira.” He said, walking forward.
I shook my head, stepping back, I was beginning to lose my grip on reality. If this was reality. “Your dead Dad, you can't be here! I saw Kane kill you, I saw him! I buried you and Mom, you can't be here Dad!” I shouted desperately, my body shaking as tears spilled down my cheeks. What was I suppose to believe anymore?! I really felt like I was going insane! What's happening to me?!
“Ssh baby, don't get worked up, it's all right.” Dad said comfortingly, pulling me into a hug. “I promise that everything will be all right.” He said, holding me tighter as my body continued to shake.
I buried my face in his chest, he was warm...he felt so real. “I'm scared.” I sobbed, it muffled as I hugged him tighter to me, he felt so real, I wanted to believe it. “Dad, I'm scared, I don't know what's real anymore.” I started to shake again, my head beginning to pound.
I heard no reply from him, but I didn't mind, he was still hugging me and his warmth was calming for some strange reason. However, when I felt something wet fall on my shoulder, I froze, my arms becoming limp. I looked up slowly, fear almost paralyzing my body as I stared at him fully. Blood was pouring down from his neck, from the same hole that was formed by Kane's blade. It was falling down his neck like a waterfall, it soaking his once white pristine shirt, and staining my face. My eyes were wide with horror, I couldn't move as more of his blood fell onto my cheeks mixing with the tears. I stayed there motionless just staring, until he began to speak.
“This is real isn't it Akira? You watched this happen to me, didn't you?” He asked, his eyes dull and lifeless, his touch suddenly turning cold. “You saw what Kane did to me, and you didn't even try to stop him, you just watched.” He said, his voice turning angry and sorrowful, his gaze turning into Kane's.
I scrambled away from him, tears falling down rapidly. My father began to advance and my eyes widened in horror, he blamed me and now he wanted me dead. I ran for the door behind me, my breath picking up and my body began to shake making it almost impossible for me to even open the door. But when I did, I came face to face with my mother's face. It wasn't like it had been when I first saw her, loving, warm, healthy and happy. Her once bright eyes were dulled like my father;s, and her face pale as paper. Blood was flowing from the giant slit in her throat, it staining her already white skin. I jumped back, only to land in my father's grip, his hands almost crushing my shoulders. I winced in pain, but I kept my gaze on my mother's face.
“You never saw what your brother did, huh?” Blood spilled from her lips and neck profusely as she spoke. “I was going to see you Akira, if I never got up to see you, I would have been able to stop Kane. This is what you did to me Akira, look at what happened to me.” She said as she slowly tilted her head back, her wound open until-.
I closed my eyes quickly, bile beginning to rise in my throat, but I swallowed it down. I began to thrash hard against my father's grip, I had to get away, I needed to leave! Wrenching myself free I stumbled forward, my eyes snapping open as I ran towards the long hallway I ran down when I was a child. I could hear their footsteps behind me, and even though if I was running as fast as I could, it still seemed s if they were right behind me. I was really going insane, that was the only explanation, I was insane and I was being tormented by these horrible nightmares that would never end.
Pushing away the thoughts of my -supposed- insanity, I found myself facing a dead end. My hopes of somehow escaping my personal hell disappeared instantly, leaving me to stand frozen in fear. I was only able to move when I heard the sounds of blood splashing against the wooden floor, and dread filled my body. I slowly turned, seeing the ghostly white faces of my parents come into view. Fear gripped my non beating heart, and I pressed myself against the wall, their painstakingly slow footsteps only made this more horrifying than it already had been, it that was even possible. And as they were only a few feet before me, their faces scrunched up coldly they lunged, and I let out a blood curdling scream.
I felt their hands clawing at my skin, pain exploding around my whole body every inch of my body being ripped by their pale hands. “Stop it please! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!” They didn't thought, they just kept clawing, and I felt my own blood wash over my skin.
~Your POV, Reality~
Everyone on my team watched with wide eyes, seeing as I fell to my knees, my hands covering my head as I screamed out in horror. My eyes were closed ands my body was shaking horribly, tears spilled out in water falls. I was out of the Genjutsu but I didn't know that, the images of my parents clawing me still played behind my eyelids. The pain had stopped, but I didn't register it, I was still in my own personal hell. I didn't even hear Yusuke and Kurama's shouts for me to calm down, I don't even think I recognized them at all right now. So all they could do was watch as I practically broke down in front of them.
“I'm sorry.” I cried weakly, and I lowered my arms as my eyes dulled over. “I'm sorry Mom...Dad...I'm sorry.” I whimpered, my body collapsing as the exhaustion took over, not having the strength to get up.
Silence filled the air, every youkai and ningen that was in the crowd stared until a huge shout of cheers exploded around the stadium. Hisoka stared down cruelly and he laughed darkly under his breath, a smirk wide on his lips. He was sure in that moment that disobeying his leader's orders were worth it. Seeing me looking broken, and hearing the horror that filled my voice as I screamed, Hisoka didn't care if anything happened to him now, he was satisfied.
“I...I'm not sure what just happened, but Kira is down so I guess I'll count now.” Koto said, walking towards my body cautiously, and when she was close enough she rose her hand. “1!..2!...3!...4!” she counted.
Yusuke rushed to the ring, my back facing him. “Kira, are you all right?” He asked.
I said nothing, I heard him, but my mind wouldn’t register who said that to me. So I just laid on the ground, eyes dulled. “5!...6!...7!” Koto continued, her voice echoing around the stadium, it almost drowned out by the excited cheers of the youkai in the crowd.
“Kurama, do you think she can hear us?” Botan asked, concern in her eyes as she looked up at the red haired kitsune. “You don't think she went insane, right?”
Kurama turned to the usually happy ferry girl, his jade-hued eyes unsure. “I don't know Botan, all we can do is wait.” He said, he knew he should have kept me from fighting in that round, now he hoped that I would be ok. Even if what he had just seen made him slightly doubt.
“8!...9!...10!” Koto said loudly, bringing everyone back to reality. “Team Masho wins the first round.”
the youkai in the crowd exploded into cheers once again, and Hisoka only smirked. He walked away from the ring, ignoring the looks that he was getting from one of the black hooded men next to him. Ignoring Hisoka's presence for the moment, Yusuke quickly grabbed me off the ring as well, holding me bridal style. He could feel my body shaking against his, and he brought me over to Botan, Kuwabara and Kurama. He didn't know what to do, so knowing Kurama and Botan, he was sure he could leave me in their hands.
“Kira, can you hear me?” Kurama asked, sitting me up on the grass.
I looked up, seeing the familiar red head appear in front of me. All my senses were coming back, albeit slowly, and I could feel someone's narrowed gaze on me... “Ku-Kurama.” I mumbled, my eyes brightening ever so slightly in recognition. “Yusuke...” I felt my consciousness begin to slip, but I stayed awake.
“Don't push yourself,” Botan said worried. “Just relax ok?”
I wanted to shake my head, but I didn't have enough strength left to. So I let my eyes close, and as I began to slip into unconsciousness I remembered that I had cost us the match. I might have just caused our team to lose, I probably killed us all.
“I'm sorry, Yusuke.” I mumbled, darkness enveloping me.
Ending it here! I know, it really sucked but I really tried. It didn't really show, but I promise that the next one will be all about the guys once again! Kira will be slowly going back to her old self because after this she will not be the completely angsty girl I made her to be in the last chapters, she will be funny again, I promise, please bear with me! Bye!
Converting /tmp/phpm5Jmj9 to /dev/stdout
Bye!
