Chapter 8
I stared down at the bandaged hand and sighed. Hiei was still staring at me like I did something wrong. People please! If I did something wrong, tell me. I don't like being confused. It gets too complicated. I flexed my injured hand slightly as I rubbed the back of my head with the other. "Er...you startled me?" I said smiling slightly. Hiei snorted and sheathed his sword. "So what are you doing up?" I asked.
"What are you doing by the swords?" Hiei countered. Touché... "I thought you were frightened of them..." I looked at the blades and shivered slightly.
"Why do you think I didn't sense you coming?" I said in a low whisper. Hiei seemed to consider it as I pulled a similar plain katana from the wall. I held it to my side as I walked to Hiei. "I'll sense you now though..."
"Detective..." He said in a low voice. I smirked and swung at Hiei. His sword was out and blocking mine before he knew what was happening. I smirked and leaned forward pushing Hiei back. "Yusuke stop!" Hiei told me as I stepped forward making him slide back.
"A sword fight, Hiei...that's all I ask." I whispered. Hiei stared at me for a while before nodding. He forced me back and swung at me rapidly. I pulled my sword up in defense, blocking the swings. He disappeared in a blur of speed. I jumped up and flipped in the air so my back was toward the ceiling. Hiei appeared were I was and jumped up toward me. Our swords clashed together again. Hiei forced me to push myself from him and land on the ground. He was suddenly in front of me his sword arching. I raised my hand at the same time.
"Yusuke..." Hiei stared at my hand which was now bleeding like the other one was. I was kneeling on one knee as the blood dripped down my arm. I was holding the blade in my hand. It did hurt...it was painful...but I had to endure it. I slowly took my hand away and thrust my shoulder into Hiei's stomach making him tumble back enough for me to stand up. I dropped my sword and tried to wipe the blood away. "Yusuke...?"
"No..." I whispered trying to wipe off the blood. I could see his bloody sword. Not Hiei's, no...My father's. I continued to try to scrub it off when I felt Hiei shake me. I tried to push him away only to feel a stinging flap in my face.
"Yusuke snap out of it!" He yelled at me. I stared at Hiei.
"Sorry..." He sighed and took some of the bandage from his arm. He used it on my hand and knotted it tightly.
"You need to get a hold of yourself Detective." Hiei said as he sheathed his sword again. I sighed and leaned back on the wall. My heart was pounding against my chest. Was Hiei being nice? No...But...the fight got me all hot and...My eyes widened. Not Hiei too...Kurama and Hiei. I have feelings for them both...no it can't be, can it? "Detective?" Hiei turned toward me. I slid to the ground panting slightly. This was too much for me. My emotions, my nightmares, the lack of sleep again, plus the fight. The memories of my father came at me again. I flinched back and hit my head against the wall.
"Yusuke!" I heard my mother shout as she ran across the dojo to me. I turned to her as she knelt beside me.
"Hey mom..." I grinned at her. She frowned and put a hand to my head. I sighed and rolled my eyes. No...I wasn't hot because of the fever. I gave my mother a good long stare. She blinked and pulled her hand away. I saw her grin and blushed. "Mom...don't go there..."
"I see how it is," She stood up pulling me up with her. She looked at my hands and sighed. Hiei watched us with a bored look. "Another nightmare?" She asked looking up at me. I felt the corner of my mouth lift slightly as I shrugged. She sighed and pulled me into a hug. "I'm sorry Yusuke...this is my fault." She whispered to me. I frowned as she hugged me. It wasn't her fault...it was mine. I wasn't strong enough to fight, I wasn't strong enough to run away, I wasn't strong enough to tell someone. I looked at Hiei, who flinched because of my blank stare. I was lapsing in the moment. I gently pushed my mother away.
"Come on, let's get a snack to munch on." I said softly. My mother nodded and turned to leave the dojo. Once she left, I picked up the sword and put it away. I felt Hiei behind me as I left the sword on the rack. He walked around me and stood beside me looking at the blades. I looked down at him and raised an eyebrow.
"It is not your fault Detective. You were too young, be glad it wasn't worse." Hiei said not turning. I frowned more. I quickly blocked my thoughts from Hiei. Damn, I got careless. Without being around him constantly my barriers were weakened. Hiei looked at me with a slight glare. "Don't blame yourself Yusuke, it wasn't your fault." I smirked at Hiei. What did he know? It was my fault, but I decided to play off my old self. I enveloped Hiei in a hug and grinned.
"Oh Hiei! You do care!" I snuggled into him as he struggled to get of my grip.
"Yusuke! Let me go!" He pushed against me trying to get away. I kept my hold on Hiei and lifted him up swinging him around. "YUSUKE!" He yelled at me as he punched me in the shoulder.
"Am I interrupting something?" Kurama's voice floated into the room. I turned to him with a struggling Hiei in my arms. I smiled.
"Hi Kurama!" I said happily. "Would you like to join us?" Hiei struggled glaring at Kurama.
"I assume you two were sparring?" Kurama asked staring at the cut in my arm and my hand. I waved it off. Hiei finally escaped my grasp and scrambled away from me. I laughed at Hiei's expression and walked toward the entrance of the dojo heading to the kitchen. I laughed to myself as I remember Hiei's reaction. It was too nice to know I could do that to him.

My mother had made me a snack of grapes and strawberries with warm carmel. I sat on the island and began to eat it, thinking about stuff. I needed to call Lin and ask her if anything has happened at the precinct. I sighed as I finished the last grape. I started on the strawberries as Kurama and Hiei entered. Hiei looked pissed and was glaring at Kurama. Kurama was smiling as they looked at me.
"Hey guys..." I said as I yawned. One this about warm carmel, it makes me sleepy. I remember my mother using this snack when I was younger. Hiei looked at me, his eyes showed amusement. I raised a tired eyebrow at him. But, Kurama was the one to walk up to me and leaned toward me. I leaned back slightly and blinked owlishly.
"Hold still..." Kurama whispered his hand reaching up and gripping my chin tightly. I stared as he leaned forward. My eyes widen as I felt his tongue against the corner of my mouth. Kurama pulled back and looked at me with green eyes with golden swirls. "You had a bit of carmel there, Yusuke."
"Thanks..." I said deafly. I stared into Kurama's golden swirled eyes. He smirked, not like himself...but like Youko. I suddenly felt hands on my waist pulling me from the island onto the floor. I looked to see Hiei holding onto my waist. "Hiei?"
"Go to bed Yusuke," He said as he pushed me toward the door. I nodded numbly and began to walk to my room. My head filled with more questions than I need. When I got into my room I collapsed onto my bed and curled up on top of the covers. Kurama....Hiei....they couldn't....could they?

I was jostled awake to my ring tone that was to the American song techno song 'Angelfalls' by Ayla. I groaned and pulled the pillow over my head, trying to fall back asleep. It stopped. I smiled and started to drift off again. It began to ring again.
"Dammit!" The night when I actually have no dreams, someone wakes me up.
"Yusuke, I think you should take it." I heard my mother's voice. I sat up and let the pillow fall to my lap. I glared at the cell phone that was ringing in her hand.
"You look pleasant Yusuke." Kurama said with a smile. I glared at him too. Damn early people who wake up....I continued to grumble as I snatched the phone from my mother. Hiei leaned on the wall next to Kurama as I looked at the caller id. It read, 'Chong Lin'. I wonder what she could be calling for. I decided to find out and answered.
"Yo, Urameshi." I heard Kurama and Hiei chuckle as my mother smiled. That's how I answer; they better get use to it. I rubbed my eyes as I waited for her to reply.
"Yusuke! We need your experience." She sounded desperate. "It's real bad, and not too far away!" No not desperate....panicked. That immediately got me to wake up fully.
"Lin calm down." I heard her take a deep breath. "Alright now tell me what's going on." I looked at the three people in my room as Lin answered.
"Yusuke, there was a murder..." That was the answer I was not expecting.
