Chapter 9

I nearly dropped the phone. I haven't been on a murder scene since I killed that kid. I shivered as I turned my head away from the three gazes set toward me. I stared at the window. I didn't need this right now.

"Yusuke! Please you have to get here. It's not too far away from where you are now." That caught my attention.

"You mean it's around this general area?" I said sharply.

"Yea, that's why I called. I need you to get down here to help me, please Yusuke." Lin said. "The Chief is grilling me, I was the only one man enough to come out here with the local town cops. But..." She sounded weary and sick. I sighed. I just have to be the good guy. I got up out of bed and went to the closet and pulled out some clothes as I talked to Lin.

"Male or Female?" Yes, very professional now.

"Female..."

"Fuck..."

"Yusuke!" My mother shouted at me. I ignored her.

"Is it messy or clean?" I asked Lin. This caused Kurama and Hiei to look at me.

"Brutal." Was the answer. Damn... "Yusuke, you need to see this."

"Do I really want to?" I sighed knowing the answer.

"Probably not, but you have to. You are the only back up I have." Lin told me. I smirked as I closed the closet door.

"I'm the only back up you have?" I said with a joking voice. She chuckled slightly. Nice to know I can lighten the situation.

"I get it. If you want, if you think your guests can handle it I have bounty hunter IDs with my guns. The ones were you don't need a picture. Just have them sign their names." Lin said. I didn't reply I just sighed. "Damn, I gotta go...hurry up Urameshi...take the Shelby Cobra GT 500! The Black and Silver one not the Blue and White. Ja!" She said cheerfully before she hung up. I closed the phone and sighed. I rubbed my eyes and looked at them.

"Work?" My mother asked. I nodded. "What happen?"

"A murder..." She gasped. "Lin is the only one there and I am the only other person that would have enough guts to go there too." I rubbed the back of my neck.

"Yusuke is there anyway you could get us to go with you?" Kurama asked. I smiled and nodded.

"Lin has Bounty Hunter IDs that don't need a picture. All we have to do is go through them. Perhaps Haru can adjust Hiei's." I said. I ducked as a pillow from the chair flew at my head. "Mother, would you stay here?"

"Sure...." My mother said as she stood. "Kurama, Hiei...would you come with me so I may get Haru to find the IDs?" I noticed my mother was rubbing her wrists. I got the message and watched as Kurama agreed. He pulled Hiei out of the room to allow me to dress.

Shaking my head I got out of my pajamas pants. I pulled on a pair of boxers then my dark blue jeans. I pulled on a dark green wife beater. It hid the scars on my back pretty well. I grabbed my brown leather shoulder holster and put it on. With this on it hid all of my scars. I grabbed the black silk short sleeve button up shirt and slipped into it. It had a red dragon wrapped around the end of it. I left it open as I went to the dresser and pulled out my black leather cuffs. I put them on my wrists. The foundation was starting to come off my wrists now. I shrugged and grabbed my black Nikes from the closet and put them on. I grabbed my cell and clipped it to my pants in the back. I then grabbed my badge and clipped it to the front of my pants. I was ready and with that thought I headed to the gun room.

I entered the room and began to look through the guns. I heard Haru explaining to Kurama and Hiei about why Lin has Bounty Hunter IDs. I chuckled. Yea...she always has everything you ever need. I looked the M92 FS Perfect and took it from the rack. I weighed it in my hand before holstering it. Walking out of the room I came face to face with Kurama and Hiei. I smiled and waved slightly. "Are you guys ready?"

"They have their IDs, if that's what you mean squirt." Haru said with a smile as he held up keys. I glared at him and snatched the keys from him.

"Try anything with my mother old man and it will be your heart on my dinner plate." My eyes turned down the hallway as I heard Haru sigh.

"As you wish, Yusuke-san!" He said in defeat as I headed downstairs. "Directions to the scene are in the car already." I frowned. I didn't need to be reminded that I was going to a murder scene. Kurama and Hiei seemed to appear right beside me who caused me to stop and blink. They looked at me with a look of one amusement and the other annoyance. I shook my head and went to the garage. Once I got them in the car I read the directions. I paled slightly but put the direction down as I pulled out of the garage.

"Detective, you look pale." Hiei said from the back seat. I frowned slightly as my grip on the wheel tightened.

"I'm fine Hiei...just a bit nervous. I haven't been on a murder scene for a while." I replied slowly. As of right now...I didn't trust my voice. Kurama just looked at me. I suppose I was still a bit shocked about the 'cleaning up' he did yesterday, but hey...I can't complain I didn't enjoy it.

"Scared?" Hiei asked as he crossed his arms.

"In your dreams, shorty." I smirked in the mirror which made Hiei growl. I laughed and pressed the pedal harder making the car go faster. No need to rush...well who ever said that can go to hell.

We got the murder scene quickly. No...I didn't crash while I broke the speed limit! I took out a cigarette and lit it as I waited by the car with Kurama and Hiei. Lin said she would send someone out to get us and lead us around. I sat on the hood of the car thinking about the case. I tapped my temple with my hand that held my cigarette. It was a nervous gesture that I did when I was somewhere I didn't want to be. I had put my sunglasses on when we were driving and didn't take them off yet.

"Urameshi?" A young cop came up to us. I put the cigarette between my lips and stood up. I shook his offered hand as he introduced himself. "I'm Officer Kenji. Pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise kid..." I replied around the cigarette. "These are some of my friends from out of town, Kurama and Hiei." I pointed my thumb to them. Officer Kenji just nodded.

"Chong told me to lead you straight to the gore as she puts it." I sighed and rubbed the bridge to my nose.

"Gore?" Kurama asked.

"Yes...one dead..." Officer Kenji said as he began to walk off. We all walked behind him as he explained. "The son of the woman called after about an hour or two after her death. The murder was in a mask and black clothing." He led us through the house and up the stairs.

"Typical..." Hiei snorted. I nodded and got to the top step, looking down. I saw bloody footprints. Kneeling down, I put my fingers over the blood. Semi-dry. Shit...it was so close to the murder. I stood up.

"The footprints lead to the actual murder scene?" I asked as I followed the footprints with my eyes.

"Yes. This is where I have to leave you. You do whatever you wish, we got all we can." He said. "I must warn you...no one, not even Chong has seen that room and not throw up." Officer Kenji immediately left after that advice. I put out my cigarette and then put the bud in the nearby trash can as I calmly walked to the splintered door.

"Will you be alright Yusuke?" Kurama asked. I know, Hiei and him have seen worse in Makai. I, on the other hand, have seen very little.

"Don't ask me that..." I whispered as I opened the door with my foot. I looked in the room and didn't expect this.

There was blood caking the floor and walls. How the ceiling survived I'll never know. It was the bedroom of the parents. You could tell but all the pictures of the family. I slowly walked further into the room letting Hiei and Kurama in. I heard a gasp and hiss of disgust. I slowly walked around in a trance. The hard wood floors creaked under my shoes. It all looked like a Victorian style room with a hint of Japanese. It was all very...motherly. I didn't like how it was all bloody. There was a rice paper fold in the corner and a giant fan over the bed. I looked down from the fan to the bed. If I was shocked before, nothing compared to now. The bloody body of a naked woman was chained to the metal head board of the bed. I stared at the body that was staining the pristine white sheets. There was a gapping wound in her abdomen. Her wrists were raw from I suppose her struggle against the shackles. Her eyes were gouged out and her tongue also from what I saw in her open mouth.

"Cannot tell what she did see, or heard..." Kurama whispered behind me. "Or see what this murderer did to her." Hiei made a sound of agreement. I didn't comment, I just stared. Her body was wounded and you can tell she was raped either before or after she died. There were long scratch marks among her torso and arms. Her chest was bruised as her face looked beaten. This was horrible...did they think some demon did this or something to call us in? Or was every one at the precinct a chicken shit? I took a deep breath to try to calm myself. That proved to be a mistake as the room swam before my eyes. "Yusuke?" I faintly heard before I started to drop to my knees.

"Kurama, grab him!" A voice said harshly. I felt arms wrap around my waist and hold me against Kurama's chest. My sunglasses were pulled off of my face. My pale complexion and my eyes must have shocked them, because I could feel Kurama sharp intake of breath. I knew my eyes had a lot of white in them from what I just saw, I just didn't see how much. My head tilted forward slightly as a hand pressed itself against my forehead. It was cool against my heated forehead. I leaned into it trying to escape the heat. I saw Hiei's lips moving but I didn't hear anything. He kept his hand against my forehead as he leaned my head back against Kurama's shoulder. I tried to move but found I was too weak to do it.

"--Suke...Yusuke...can you hear me?" I heard Kurama's voice call. I nodded...or tried to but I think he got the message. "You are in shock Yusuke..." I was in shock? I stared at the ceiling not moving. "Hiei is cooling you down...for some reason you are overheated Yusuke." He continued. I felt Hiei shift so he was pressed up against me. Being Half-Ice youkai, he used it to lower his temperature so he was cold enough to cool me down. My arms twitched and touched Hiei's arms.

"Are you okay now?" He asked me as he felt my hand on his arm. I didn't say anything, I just stood in the circle of Kurama's arms.

"We can leave if you like Yusuke," Kurama whispered against my hair. I slowly shook my head and walked to the edge of the bed. Hiei grabbed my arm and looked at me. I stared back at him blankly.

"I need to do my job..." I whispered.

"Let him go Hiei..." Kurama commanded of the koorime. Hiei reluctantly lifted his hand from my arm and allowed me to do as I was paid to do. I pulled out a lock pick from my back pocket that I had taken from the car. I undid the shackles around the wrist of the woman quickly. Putting the tool away, I leaned on the bed and grabbed the woman by the arms. I took a deep slow breath, then let it out smoothly. I slowly turned the woman over on the king sized bed to see her back.

"Dear god..." I whispered as I read the message on her back. It said, 'Victim 1'. I slowly back away from her and the bed. Hiei grabbed my arm and tugged me out of the room. Kurama helped pulled me out before closing the door. I stared as they pulled out of the house and to the car. At the car, Lin waited for us. She stared at me and raised an eyebrow.

"Did he puke?" She asked. The kitsune answered for me.

"No, he just went into a state of shock after surveying the scene." I leaned on the hood of the car taking deep breathes. Hiei stayed by my side making sure I didn't faint or puke, I guess.

"Better than what everyone else did." Lin said as she glanced at me. Kurama came over and started to rub my back. Even that was comforting enough for me to stand up.

"You didn't see what the murder wrote on the woman's back." I said softly as I stared at the car's hood. "It said victim one...This Murder is going to do this again Lin." She seemed not too shocked about this information. "Why aren't you surprised...what are you hiding?" I asked. Lin looked at me frowning. I didn't like that look. It was the look my mother gave me when we talk about my childhood with my stepfather.

"Woman! Is there more information Yusuke needs to know?" Hiei growled out. Lin jumped and nodded. She looked over at the ambulance. I looked over and got another shock for the day. Remember that kid that I saved that started my whole Spirit Detective career? Yea...well he was sitting in the ambulance crying.

"Taku..." I whispered.

"Yea...Taku Noguchi..." Lin told us as she too looked at the kid. "After killing his mother, the murderer went after Taku."

"I don't see a scratch on him..." Kurama said. I had to agree, even from this distance, but I had a feeling I knew what the murderer did.

"That's because, the murderer didn't do harm were the eyes could spot. There's an injury in his back." Lin said as she turned to us. "Not only that...but he was also raped." My eyes dilated as my breath got caught in my throat. I couldn't breathe when I heard that. Just when I thought no more surprises were going to come...
