Chapter 14
(Normal POV)
Hiei slipped into Yusuke's room as the young man slept. He watched Yusuke from the time he was with Yukina. He had only heard part of the conversation due to the detective's semi sound proof windows. He knew that Yusuke was bringing someone to Tokyo and that they will be helping him with the case, but that's all. Hiei walked over to Yusuke and looked down on him. He began to wonder what made Yusuke keep going. What made Yusuke pursue in finishing this case? Hiei watched as Yusuke turned onto his back his head toward Hiei.
"What makes you tick detective?" Hiei asked the sleeping man. Yusuke flinched and cowarded back away from Hiei. "Yusuke...?"
"...Don't....not again..." Yusuke whispered. Hiei put his knee on the bed and leaned over Yusuke. "No...knife...." He screamed and curled into a ball. Hiei grabbed Yusuke's shoulder. "No..." The sleeping man cried silently as he clawed as his wrist. Hiei grabbed both wrists and took off the cuffs. He froze when he saw the green vine tattoo on his right wrist.
"Kurama mated him?" Hiei asked himself as Yusuke began to struggle. Hiei stared at Yusuke as he clawed at his wrist trying to get some invisible thing off. I can't blame the kitsune...with Youko as his other half...but how dare he not tell me. After all I am his first mate. Hiei grabbed Yusuke's wrists and held him. The idiot is too weak to even sleep right. Hiei leaned down and brushed his lips against Yusuke's. The young man resist a bit, but Hiei pushed a bit against his lips and Yusuke relaxed. Hiei pulled away and smirked. He lean off of Yusuke and put his cuffs on the side table. Licking his lips he went to the window. "Hm...I need to have a talk with my kitsune." Hiei said as he disappeared out the window.
=^.^= (Yusuke's POV)
I was having a nightmare...my step father had chained my arm to the bed and left the other to attack him. He liked it when I struggle. I pleaded with him to stay away and stop but the cold surrounded me as he laughed and watched me squirm as he used a knife to cut the clothes away. I begged him to stop but he didn't listen to me. Suddenly darkness enveloped me. It wasn't cold darkness either. It was warm and it caressed my lips with passion. I felt safe and happy. I wanted it to stay with me always, but as me, the warmth disappeared and left me cold in the dark. I began to wonder why it left. I felt myself awaken from my dream and wished I didn't. If I was left there, maybe the warmth would come back.
I felt my eyes open. I groaned and winced as I felt my wrist was raw. I must have scratched it in my sleep. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. My cuffs were off, I realized as I blinked at my wrists. Jeez, I'm so tired I forgot I took them off. I yawned as my stomach grumbled. I groaned. It has been what, four days since I last ate? I'd have to skip another few unless...I ran a hand through my hair and sighed. No...I'm not going to beg off Lin or mother I did that three months ago. I guess I can survive without food a bit longer. I stood up and changed out of my rumpled clothes. At least it wasn't raining.
It was eleven in the morning and I needed to get to the airport to pick up Jaxxia. I rubbed my eyes again and looked down at my outfit. A pair of black jeans and a black turtle neck sweater. I feel like a stalker. Scratch that, I felt like Hiei. I rolled my eyes and fixed my hair. Yawning again I grabbed my cell phone and keys and headed downstairs. I glanced around a bit. My paranoia made me know exactly how everything was downstairs. When I finished my inspection I put my black sneakers on. I opened the door and locked it behind me as I exited my house. I walked to Lin's Honda that I still had. She said I could keep it for as long as I wanted. Not like I would of gave it back.
Getting into the car, I started and backed out of the driveway. I turned onto the street and headed to the airport. I put the radio on and listened to the music. I blinked as I stopped at a light. Down the street Kuwabara was in a fight with a few thugs. I grinned. I think I'll be getting my morning excerise. I drove toward them as the light turned green. I slowed down and got out of the car. Kuwabara was punched into a wall as I strode over to them.
"Give us all your money Kuwabara!" One said. There was four, should be fun.
"No, get out of my face." Kuwabara said. I stood beside them and smirked.
"Oi, Kuwabara you need some help?" The thugs looked up at me and froze.
"Urameshi!" Kuwabara blinked. The thugs glared at me.
"I don't care if you are the 'Killer Urameshi' I'm not afraid of you!" Thug number 2 said. I stared at him before punching the wall beside me. It cracked under my fist as I watched them step back.
"Scram or else that will be your head." I said coldly. They stared at each other before bolting. I pulled my hand from the wall and shook out it. "Damn that hurt..." I don't think I was talking about my fist.
"Urameshi, you alright?" I looked at Kuwabara and smirked.
"What are you doing getting your ass kicked?" Kuwabara sputtered and looked at me. I rolled my eyes and helped Kuwabara away from the wall and pushed him over to my car. He got in without my help as I walked around and got it. I had left the car running, so I just started back to the airport again.
"I wasn't exactly getting my ass kicked..." Kuwabara said. I gave him a pointed stare as I drove. "Alright, I was getting my ass kicked...but that was because they surprised me."
"Sure....and I'm Hiei's bitch..." I rolled my eyes. Technically...I'm Kurama's bitch, but that doesn't count. I grinned slightly at the thought as we pulled into the airport. I quickly parked and got out of the car. Kuwabara followed and I locked the car with a beep. I snickered, I love the beep noise.
"So, who are we picking up?" Kuwabara asked. I pulled out a cigarette and lit it as I put it between my lips as we entered the airport building.
"My girlfriend..." I replied with a perfectly calm face. I watched as Kuwabara's jawdropped.
"GIRLFRIEND!" He shouted. I blinked innocently. Play it cool and he'll never guess it was a lie. I'm good... "Already?"
"You want to me to rot alone? Jeez, you are an idiot." I muttered around the cigarette. I looked at my watched and turned.
"But...but..."
"Shut up, you sound like a moron. Hence you are making me look bad." I replied as I flashed my Precinct ID to the guards to let me bypass the metal detectors. No...I didn't bring a gun. I'm not that stupid.....I brought my swiss army knife. I waited around the area where Jaxxia was suppose to come from.
"So, what's going on at your job?" He asked looking at me. "Whatever it is, it is making you like shit."
"I feel like shit," I said as I took the cigarette between my index and middle finger. I exhaled smoke slowly. "I'm running double time. I've been nominated for being the primary on this case, which I can't let happen."
"Why not?" Kuwabara asked.
"Not that it is important, but I don't need my face plastered all over the city. I got enough trouble from humans, I don't need rogue demons challenging me at every turn. I have enough of them already trying to kill mother and I." I took a drag from my cigarette. "There are too many problems in my life right now that I get little peace."
"Why not have a decoy primary then?" Kuwabara said. I blew out the smoke as I turned to him. This isn't the first time Kuwabara said something smart to me about my police work.
"I guess all that Law and Justice studying for college is helping you?" I asked with a small smile. He shrugged.
"You should go to college too Urameshi."
"I already decided, don't push it." I said as I dropped the cigarette into the top of a trash can that held a small ashtray. "I fucked up my life too much already..." I wasn't talking about skipping college to get a job at the precinct either.
"I got one question though..." Kuwabara said looking around.
"What?"
"Is she really your girlfriend?" I stared at him and blinked. Was he really that dense? Wait, don't answer that. I shook my head and laughed. He growled at me and was about to say something when something jumped on my back. Or should I say, someone.
"Yusuke-kun!" They shouted as I stumbled forward from the weight. "I missed you!"
"Hey Jaxxia," I said smiling brightly. She got off my back and let me turn to see her.
"Wow, you've....stayed the same short height..." I said. She glared and smacked me in the arm.
"That's not far! I'm not 5'11'' like some people!" Jaxxia huffed and crossed her arms. I smiled and shook my head. She blinked and looked at Kuwabara. "Hey who's Mr. Ugly Elvis over here?" She pointed at him. I laughed.
"HEY!" Kuwabara said. Once I calmed myself down I was able to talk. "The name's Kuwabara Kazuma!" We ignored him.
"Jax, you do have a suitcase right?" I asked.
"Yea, you said pack for a month," Jaxxia said as she grabbed my hand. "Come on! You got to show me around!" She pulled me toward the luggage.
"Does this mean maxing out my cards?" I asked as I allowed her to drag me off. She let go and grinned then turned and ran to the rotating belt. She waited patiently before she spotted her bag.
"No, just show me around to places..." She said too sweetly. I shook my head and felt Kuwabara stare at Jaxxia. I shook my head as she bent over to get her luggage. I immediately smacked Kuwabara upside the head.
"Don't try..." I said before he could whine about me hitting him. "She's locked out of your league." He glared at me as Jaxxia came back with her suitcase.
"Ready!" She smiled. I grinned and grabbed her suitcase from her. I put my free hand in my pocket and headed out to the car. Jaxxia and Kuwabara followed as I nodded to the guard and went to the parking lot. Jaxxia sighed and stretched.
"Glad to be on land?" I asked.
"Hell yea!" Jaxxia said then smirked and dropped to her knees. "LAND! OH GLORIOUS LAND!" I laughed at her and continued to the car. She got up and ran after me. "I call shotgun!" She looked at Kuwabara, who groaned. We got to the car as Kuwabara began to complain.
"She rightly called it Kuwabara..." I said as I unlocked the car with a beep. I opened the trunk and stuff her suitcase in there. I slammed the trunk shut then went to the driver side. Kuwabara and Jaxxia were already in the car playing with the radio. I got in and slapped their hands away from the radio.
"Hey!" Jaxxia pouted as Kuwabara just sat back.
"I'm driving, I call what we listen to..." I said as I hit the CD button on the car. It started to play my CD mix that was in there already. It was American music, so Jaxxia was happy. Kuwabara just huffed, but I know he likes these songs. Once I got out of the airport, I headed to Kuwabara's house.
"So, Yusuke...do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend yet?" Jaxxia asked. I think Kuwabara almost had a heart attack in the back seat.
"BOYFRIEND?!" He shouted over the music. I sweatdropped as I stopped at a light. "You're bi!?"
"Um...yea?" I said as I glanced back at him in the mirror. Jaxxia bursted out laughing. "Not funny Jax..."
"You didn't tell him? Sorry, but his reaction...I find that freakin' priceless!" She laughed. "I thought you said people knew..."
"I did...I meant, Kuwabara's sister, Shizuru, my friend Jin, and my partner Lin. Then there's my mom..." I replied slowly as the light turned green. I signaled right and turned onto Kuwabara's street.
"My sister knew!" Kuwabara shouted. "How the hell don't I know?"
"Because you are an idiot?" I said. "I mean, Shizuru and my mother...I told them. Jin found out from one time when this guy tried to kiss me in Chuu's bar. That was weird. Oh yea, that means Chuu knows too, I forgot about him." I shook my head. "Lin knew because she 'can tell' or so she told me, I think my mother told her though."
"And you told me..." Jaxxia said once she got her laughter down to a small giggle. I nodded and pulled the car to a stop in front of Kuwabara's own home. He climbed out and stared at me.
"Later Kuwabara," I smirked at him.
"Yusuke...I don't mind you being bi, just don't..." Kuwabara started.
"Sorry Kuwabara, but you are too ugly for anyone." I replied with a laugh. I quickly drove off before Kuwabara going do something to the car, or me. I glanced at Jaxxia. "You hungry?"
"Yep!" She said. "Got anything at home?"
"Nope, that's why we are going to a cafe." I said as I drove to Dr. Atogi's cafe. We got out of the car and headed into the cafe after I parked the car.
"Yusuke!" Misa smiled at me. "Oh!" She said seeing Jaxxia. "The regular table and two green teas?"
"Jaxxia?" I said turning to her.
"Green tea is fine." She said.
"Alright, you heard her Misa..." I said turning to the young hostess. Misa giggled and lead us to the table next to the window.
"I'll be back with your teas." Misa said as she headed to the back.
"She's cute..." Jaxxia giggled. I rolled my eyes and got into the booth. Jaxxia got in on the other side, across from me. I leaned back and closed my eyes. "This crime really has gotten to you that badly?"
"Yea...I was told I looked like shit." I murmured.
"I have my labtop in my suitcase...when my home computer is done with the picture it should send it to my labtop." I opened my eyes and looked at her.
"That's good," I replied as I leaned my elbows on the table. "I need to finish this case so I can go on a real vacation."
"I'll help you Yusuke." I place my hand on the table as the other rubbed my eyes. She reached over and gripped my hand. "I swear I'll help you," She said as Misa came back with the tea. "But first, tea!" I sweatdropped.
"She forgets me for tea..." Misa laughed and winked. I smiled at Misa as she left and looked at Jaxxia as she drinks the tea.
"I do have another favor I must ask before we get to my house." I said as I stared into my tea. I felt Jaxxia's eyes on me. Jaxxia knew when I got serious. She was older than me...24...I was only 18. She had told me the first time we met that when I get serious I act as if I was older. Perhaps I do, I wouldn't know.
"Yusuke...?"
"In late October, early November there is a tournament. It's called the Dark Tournament..." Jaxxia pushed her tea to the side and listened to me. "I need a team of four people, including myself. We will be the guest team, for I am the guest of honor for some bizarre reason."
"I've read about this tournament. Demons....are supposedly to be in it." Jaxxia said. "Are you asking me to be on your team?" I nodded. "Yusuke, my martial arts isn't that good."
"Believe I know," I said. She glared and kicked me under the table. "Ow..." She grinned. "But as I was saying, I'm going to say that this tournament is a vital point in the crimes. Lin will back me up because I'm going to make her go with my friends."
"I don't understand, why can't you go with your friends?" She asked confusedly.
"I got a letter saying if I don't go, with a different team from when I last went. Then they will all suffer. If I don't go at all, then they will hunt them and me down." I explained. "I have the letter at home, but I wanted to tell you where I'm sure my friends won't hear."
"So we are going to be training for about two and a half months?" Jaxxia asked.
"Basically, I'm going into the mountains. You are coming with me. Lin might be coming with us, but that is undecide." I replied. "She owns a house near a village on the mountain. That's where we will be staying."
"Does she own a house like everywhere?" Jaxxia asked leaning her cheek on her arm. I smiled.
"Yea, her uncle was a rich man and loves the country, beach, mountains, and basically anything with space. So he bought land all over the place. All Lin's now..."
"Wow..." Jaxxia said as she pulled the tea back to her. "What a lucky, rich bitch..." I laughed.
"Oh very classy Jaxxia." I said as I finished my tea.
"You know you love me," She smirked. I shook my head and called Misa back over.
"Hey, having fun?" She asked. Jaxxia nodded and grinned.
"So, this place have any grub?" Jaxxia asked Misa.
"Yea, what will it be?" Misa said sweetly.
"Some sushi please!" I smiled and nodded to Misa.
"Put it on my account." Misa nodded her head and bounded off again. Jaxxia turned to him and then looked out the window.
"So when are we leaving?"
"In about a week or so, sooner if I'm lucky." I replied looking out the window. "I have a lot of things to do before then."
"So who else will be on our team?" Jaxxia asked as I continued to stare out the window.
"Friends, both are bouncers at club Fate. One is Kou Leifoh and the other is Sion Barzahd." I replied with a yawn. "They will be training with Lin. I figure I can only take one person with me. I mean something is up if they have me being the guest of honor."
"Yea...that is kind of strange." She agreed. Misa came back and gave each of us a plate of varies sushi. I thanked her and grabbed the chopsticks. Jaxxia had some trouble with her chopstick so she had just used her hands. I laughed and continued to eat. I glanced outside the window and sighed. Why does it seem like my world is trapped in a cycle of turns that go from bad to worst? I popped another sushi in my mouth as I looked down at my plate. It feels like in a story which the author dictates my actions. No...that can't be it...but then why do I feel like I have no control over my life? Didn't I leave Koenma to do exactly that? To have some control over my life.
"Yusuke..." I looked up at Dr. Atogi.
"Oh hey doc!" I smiled at him. Jaxxia looked at me confused. "Oh, er...Jax this is my doc friend, Rai Atogi. Dr. Atogi, this is Jaxxia...she's going to help me with the murder case."
"Ah, it is good to know someone will be helping you." Atogi said. "Here Yusuke..." He put two bags of grocercies down on the table. "I figure you will need these." I blinked.
"How do you know what I always need. The first time I met you it was for a talk, the second time it was for medical attention, third it was the first time I came to this cafe..."
"I think we get it Yusuke," Jaxxia said eating some of the sushi off my plate. I glared at her before turning to Atogi again.
"If I didn't know any better, I would say you stalk me." Atogi looked at me with his light brown eyes and laughed.
"Or talk with your mother, take your pick Urameshi." He responded.
"I like the stalk me one, that gives me right to kill you." I said smirking. Atogi smirked back.
"Really, then who would disregard the huge tab you owe me?" Jaxxia laughed. I snorted and turned my head back to the window. I heard the bell ring, indicating that someone came in.
"Oh look it's Red..." Atogi said. I turned my head and smiled.
"Hey Kurama!" I waved. Kurama looked at me and smiled back. He came over and sat beside me.
"Aren't you going to introduce us Yusuke?" Jaxxia said.
"Nope I forgot about you..." I said as I looked at Kurama. Jaxxia pouted. "Never thought you'd come here at this time of day."
"I got hungry," Kurama shrugged.
"Aw...Yusuke is this your boyfriend?" I blushed a dark red as I turned to Jaxxia. "He is isn't he!"
"Shut up!" I glared at her. Atogi chuckled. "You too old timer."
"Is that all I am? After all I've done for you kid?" Atogi asked as he turned. "Fine! I'm heading into the back, but Yusuke remember I dropped the token off at your mother's so why don't you swing by and get it." I jerked slightly as I realized what it meant. Great, he left my pills at my mother's...the unlabeled ones. He walked into the back as Jaxxia poked me with a chopstick.
"Hey babe, are you going to introduce us now?" She asked.
"I'm not your babe." I glared at her. Sighing I turned to Kurama. "Kurama, Jaxxia. Jaxxia, Kurama. She's helping me with the murder case."
"That's good," Kurama put his hand out to shake Jaxxia's. Jaxxia shook Kurama's hand smiling.
"Yea, Yusuke boosted for my ticket and is letting me stay at his place." Kurama raised an eyebrow and looked at me.
"Jaxxia's poor..." I replied and turned my head toward the window.
"Am not! I just have....finacial problems...." She said defiantly. I shoook my head. "So Kurama are you Yusuke's boyfriend or what?" I looked at Kurama in the reflection of the window. He grinned and nodded.
"Yes, I am Yusuke's boyfriend." Kurama said as he stole a sushi from my plate.
"That was mine you know..." I replied as I kept my head turned toward the window.
"Hm...so it was...." He said as he ate it. I stared as his lips encircled the the sushi. I mentally smacked myself, not in front of Jaxxia.
"I got one request from you two..." Jaxxia said as she finished a sushi.
"What would that be Jax?" I asked.
"Don't be too loud in the bed, I need my beauty sleep." She replied. I felt my face turn red as I looked at her.
"Jax!" She laughed. Kurama was a little red, but he too laughed. I shook my head trying to get the blush down. "Anyway, we better go."
"No, I want to stay..." Jaxxia whined. I turned to her. My eyes flashed seriousness before returning to their happy glow. "Or not..."
"Yusuke, would you mind me tagging along?" Kurama asked. His hand touched my thigh under the table. His hand moved inward as he started to massage my thigh.
"Not at all, but I need to go visit my mother's to pick up something." I swear to god I'm going to kill Kurama. The blush was back at full force, I know it is!
"Good!" Jaxxia clapped as she stood. "Let me just use the ladies' room and we'll be off." She walked off to the bathroom as Kurama leaned toward me.
"You smell wonderful Yusuke," He murmured against my neck. "Good enough to eat," He bit my neck gently. I smiled and tilted my head to the side more to allow him more room. He nibbled on my neck leisurely.
"Hm..." I closed eyes. Kurama's hand slid gently up my leg, massaging delicately as he nibbled on my neck.
"Two minutes and you are already at it." Jaxxia tsked. I jumped and blushed redder than red. "And I thought I was sex deprived." Kurama merely smiled deviously. Oh my fucking god Jaxxia is dead. I'm going to kill her. "Now, let's go before you guys start an orgy." That's that! No more Jaxxia!
