Chapter 19
(Raion's POV)
I was up long before Kyuushi-sensei, or Kurama-tenshi, or even Hiei. I stayed in my room though sitting up on my futon. Last night....I had a conversation with Mazoku-chan. I am to return to the darkness tonight.
My hands unconsciously tightened around the sheets under them.
I didn't want to leave yet...
Sighing, I knew I didn't have a choice. There is much to do before I return to the darkness. I smiled as I heard distantly the communicator ringing in Hiei's and Kurama-tenshi's room. That would be Koenma summoning us. That was Mazoku-chan's doing, he kept pulsing throughout the night to the Reikai World. I smiled as a knock resounded through my room. Kurama-tenshi slid the door open and told me that Koenma wanted to us. I told him I'd be ready in twenty minutes.
I got dressed into a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. As soon as I walked out of the room, Kurama pulled me through a portal to Reikai.
It felt weird.
I was suddenly standing before the toddler known as Koenma. He looked at me with a mad expression as I looked back innocently. It was weird, I've always heard his voice, yet it doesn't match his looks. I would have laughed if I wasn't so neutral about being sent back to the darkness.
"Yusuke! Where the hell have you been? And where do you get off just allowing your Spirit Energy loose like that?!" He asked. I shrugged and ran a hand through my hair.
"Koenma, please....is there anything that is of the utmost importance other than that?" Kurama asked nicely. Hiei snorted and made a comment of something close to 'Not in this century.' But before Koenma could answer an older man with brown-black hair and a beard came into the room. He was large and very intimidating.
"Eep!" Koenma said as he flinched back. "Hello Father..." Enma-sama glanced as his son before looking at me. I managed a small smile before a full out grin.
"What in the blazes are you doing here?" He asked sternly, but softly. I turned and bowed to him then laughed.
"I am in dire need of an audience with you. Hence Mazo-chan did that. I guess he took it a bit far." I replied. Koenma's eyes looked like they could be popped if you poked them. I admit, I was tempted.
"What the hell are you talking about?!" He said.
"Don't take that tone of voice!" Enma-sama scolded. Kurama-tenshi and Hiei moved in closer to my side. "Do these two know of you?" Enma-sama asked me. I nodded.
"They do, but your son and Kuwabara don't and Botan doesn't remember. Only my Hahaue, my masters, and the one known as Lin does..." He seemed to contemplate this.
"Kurama, Hiei I assume you understand why this happened?" Enma-sama asked.
"We do..." Kurama-tenshi said. Hiei nodded.
"Then you will understand why I must talk to him alone." He said. I smiled. Enma-sama always knew when I needed to talk serious with him. I really need to talk to Enma-sama about the future of Yusuke's well being. I can feel it. The bond that will snap and send him over the edge. It is thinning fast and Yu-chan is not ready for it! "Come with me Raion, leave Kurama and Hiei to explain to the others." He paused before looking at them sternly. "Tell them nothing of why..."
We left without looking back. Once in a secure location Enma-sama turned around and hugged me.
"Dear boy...I am so sorry you have to go through this." He said. I frowned but hugged him back.
"It is alright Enma-sama...I know my duty in his life. I accepted it without fail. This was my choice as much as you for allowing my being to exist." I told him. I pulled away from Enma-sama. "But it's Yusuke. He is in trouble."
"How so?" Enma asked furrowing his brow.
"I don't know..." I put a hand to my face and looked at the floor from behind the space of my fingers. "A ocean of red...a broken mirror that shatters into smaller pieces. Strings of green and black snapping by the quick cut of a sharp blade. An angel...with clothes of black. A cliff...the raging sea below and the dark sky above. A heart wrenching scream...filled with pain, sorrow, and hate. That's all I see..."
"That is a disturbing. Do you know the truth of the dream?" He asked concernedly.
"I do not..." I replied looking up to him. He grabbed me suddenly shook me slightly.
"Raion, listen to me boy. Promise me that you will not tell the others of this vision...dream...whatever you had." I blinked at him.
"Sure Enma-sama..."
"Good, now go back to your mates and speak nothing of this conversation." He commanded with concern lacing through his voice.
"I will be okay Enma-sama." I reached up and put my hand on his hand which was on my shoulder. "I am the one that keeps the truth from being revealed." I smiled as tears raced down my cheeks. "I-I will return to my darkness soon. Mazoku-chan says that Yu-chan is in dire need of training."
"Yes...I heard of the tournament's threat to Koenma...they sent one to Yusuke as well?" He looked down sadly at me.
"Hai...Yu-chan has already assembled a team...he will request that Lin-chan be on Koenma's team." I said as I wiped my tears.
"It is done...now go back...have fun before you return." I hugged him and nodded. I turned and raced back to Koenma's office.
When I got to the door I stopped and caught my breath. I calmly walked through the door. I saw a blur and my hands went up on instinct. The next thing I know I saw Botan on the floor with her wrist in my hands.
"Whoops....sorry?" I said as I helped her up. Botan blinked and looked at me. She hugged me.
"Raion-chan! How dare you ask Enma-sama to erase my memory! I hate you!" She said. I blinked.
"You hate me? FOR THAT?!" I looked shocked at her. "After all those times you nearly got caught by Yu-chan before you were suppose to meet him!"
Botan let me go and laughed. "So....I couldn't stay away from you...." She then pinched my cheeks. "You are so much nicer than Yusuke and so polite! You were just cute." I slapped her hands away and pouted.
"I'm not cute...."
"Yes, you are..." Kurama-tenshi walked up to me and hugged me. He kissed my neck causing me to blush. "See...when you blush it is cute too."
"No fair..." I said crossing my arms.
"You can't play fair with a kitsune..." Hiei said as he too walked to me. I smiled at him.
"Know from experience?" I asked. Hiei looked at me with wide eyes and a slight blush.
"Oh! It seems little Raion is becoming even more sly!" Botan giggled. Kurama-tenshi smirked and wrapped his hand around mine.
"So it would seem..." Kurama-tenshi said.
"I just can't believe Yusuke hid this from me..." Koenma said.
"Yu-chan didn't know...so how could he tell?" I asked blinking. "Come to think of it he still doesn't." Koenma just stared at me as I scratched the back of my head.
"So Raion-chan what did Enma-sama need?" Botan asked. I frowned slightly.
"Nothing, he was just making sure Yu-chan hasn't done anything stupid." I felt Kurama-tenshi's arms tighten around me as I said that.
"So what happens now?" He asked silently.
"I am going back..." I said with a smile. "By sunset Yu-chan will return and everything will be as it should."
Hiei frowned at me. Kurama-tenshi let me go and stood by Hiei to look at my face. I smiled at them and waved my hand dismissively. "Everything will be fine." I said knowing they were going to ask about my last comment. I put my fist into my hand as I remembered something. "There is something I have to tell you guys. Er....it is about the Dark Tournament."
"Yes, I got a letter from them stating that there is to be one soon." Koenma said.
"Yea, well....Yu-chan is to be the guest of honor." I replied. They nodded. "It also threatened him not to be on Koenma's team with any of you guys."
"What?!" Kurama-tenshi and Hiei growled. I flinched and took a step back.
"I don't know! Yu-chan told Jaxxia-chan about it and has made a team already. He was going to inform you guys that Lin-chan would be on your team since Genkai-san is too old to go with you again." The two demons started to growl louder, causing it to vibrate off the walls.
I put my hands over my ears and whimpered. Botan wrapped her arms around me and glared at the two. "Calm down! You are frightening Raion-chan!" She said in a stern voice. They immediately stopped and stared at me.
"Gomen Raion-chan..." Kurama-tenshi said turning his head to the side ashamed. Hiei frowned and lowered his head.
"It...It is a-alright..." I stuttered. I shivered as I shook off the memory. "We need to get to ningen-kai before sundown."
"Before you go who will be on Yusuke's team?" Koenma asked. I looked up at Koenma before looking down again.
"Three mortals and Yu-chan himself." I replied. "Sion Barzahd, Kou Leifoh, and Jaxxia-chan."
"That puts him at a disadvantage..." Koenma said. My eyes flashed with defiance as I looked at them all.
"Do not underestimate them. Jaxxia will train with Yu-chan in the mountains while Kou and Sion will train with Lin." It was true. For mortals, Sion and Kou were unnaturally resilant against demons. Jaxxia...well I don't know about her but Yusuke trusts her abilities, so that's enough for me. " I trust Yusuke's judgement on them that should be enough for you guys." I said sternly. They should trust Yusuke...if they don't I will be forced to do something I will regret. Kurama-tenshi and Hiei looked unsure, but more trusting than Koenma. Botan nodded happily knowingly. Can always trust Botan in a pinch.
"So...when will Yusuke return?" Botan asked.
"As soon as I let him. I want to make it back to Hahahue's house before I let him, it will make it easier for me to disappear without being noticed." I replied.
Kurama-tenshi frowned at me. "You make it as if you won't be coming back."
I wanted to say I wasn't. That the time when I would appear again will be when Yusuke is in great danger. I couldn't though. It would make them too protective of Yusuke and cause him to be suspicious. That would not bode well for the events to come. Not that I would know what is to come, but it is just a feeling.
"Raion?" Hiei said as he grabbed my arm. I blinked and looked at him, tilting my head to the side a bit. "Are you alright?"
"I um....I'm fine..." Hiei squeezed my arm slightly. I smiled and patted his hand.
"I'll open you guys a portal to Atsuko's home." Botan said with a smile. She waved her hand and the portal opened before her.
"Arigato Botan," Kurama-tenshi said he glanced back at me before stepping through. I gulped. That portal thing always made me nervous.
"Come on," Hiei said as he tugged me toward the portal. I followed obediently and clung to him as he walked through the portal.
Again it felt weird.
I fell forward and landed on my stomach looking up at Kurama-tenshi, who was laughing. I raised an eyebrow. Below me I heard a grunt. I shifted a bit to see Hiei.
"Oh...Hiei, what are you doing down there?" I asked innocently.
"Getting better acquainted with your mother's floor...." He replied sarcastically. "Get off of me..."
I grinned and snuggled into his back. "I don't wanna...." I whined playfully and clung to his back.
I clung to him like my life depended on it.
"Raion...." I heard him murmur. Kurama-tenshi knelt down and pulled me from Hiei's back and held me within his arms.
"Shh..." He said as he tried to comfort me. Hiei sat up and watched me with his piercing red eyes. "Don't cry Raion..."
I was crying?
Reaching up I touched my cheeks to find them wet. I shuddered and wrapped my arms around Kurama-tenshi. I didn't want to leave. I wanted to stay here. I'm safe here....in the open.
'Little Lion...it is time to leave....' Mazo-kun said in my head. I turned to see the sunsetting. 'Yusuke needs to train, he needs to be stronger.'
"No..." I tightened my arms around Kurama-tenshi to anchor myself to this plane. Hiei wrapped his arms around me from behind offering some comfort. "Not yet....I don't want to leave yet."
'You must...it is for Yusu-chan.'
I cried out in fear. The darkness scared me so much. I needed more company that Mazo-kun could give me. I needed light. This light...it was so much better. Kurama-tenshi and Hiei were our lights.
No...
Yusuke's lights...
My tears continued to run down my cheeks as I spoke. "I have to return. Please take care of Yu-chan. He is more fragile that you think." I buried my head in Kurama's neck. "I feel his emotions...he will tell you more. He will..." My voice faded and started to become more like the Yu-chan's. "Please...don't forget me..."
"We won't Raion-chan..." Kurama-tenshi said. I felt Hiei lean in and whisper in my ear.
"I will never forget you...."
That was the last thing I heard before the darkness of the abyss consumed my sight. I will be temporarily deaf to everything until all resumes the way it is to be.
---------- (Yusuke's POV)
I felt something push me from my sleep. I didn't want to go yet.
'Yusuke...you have to return. They are waiting....'
They?
'Kurama and Hiei...'
Like they care. I tried to clutch to the sleep that allowed me some peace.
'YUSUKE! I will not allow you to sleep! You will not hide from your past! You will face it and win!' The voice roared at me. 'Now awaken! Find the murderer that has slain all the children! Put an end to this nightmare.'
My eyes snapped open as I felt my meta-physical self being pushed to a surface. I brought my hand to my forehead as I gasped for air. I felt someone...two someones nuzzle my neck and my stomach. I looked to see Hiei at my stomach and Kurama at my neck. "Guys?"
They pulled back and looked at me. "Yusuke are you alright?" Kurama asked caressing my cheek. "You look exhausted koi."
"Hm..." Hiei said. I smiled at him. Sitting up, I grabbed Hiei and pulled him into my lap. "What the hell Yusuke! Let me go!" Hiei yelled struggling. I heard Kurama laughed as I tightened my hold.
"I rather not..." I replied. Grabbing Hiei's chin and forced him to look at me before kissing him. I pulled away and looked at Hiei, who stared at me dazily.
"What was that for Yusuke?" Hiei asked slowly.
"To show you I'm not mad." I smiled and laughed as Hiei's jawdropped. Turning I looked at Kurama. "How long was I asleep?"
"A day or two..." Kurama replied with a chuckle. "I assume now that you will mate Hiei also."
"Depends...."
Hiei blinked and looked at me. "Depends on what?" He glared.
"If you want to be my mate or not." I laughed as I put Hiei down and stood up from the bed. I stretched my back by bending backwards. I heard Hiei give a little moaning sound as I bent forward and touched my toes.
"My, my Yusuke. That's an enticing view."
I turned to Hiei and crawled onto the bed toward him. "And I bet you would enjoy it more without the clothes on."
"Sounds tempting..." Hiei growled out softly.
"I bet it is." I leaned toward Hiei and nipped his lips.
"What's with the playful attitude Yusuke?" Kurama asked as he crawled to us and leaned on my back.
"I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders that's all." I replied. It is true...I felt like I could anything.
"Shall we go return to your home?" He said. I nodded and got up. I changed quickly into a sweater and a pair of black jeans. Hiei and Kurama were waiting for me at the door as I grabbed my keys and cell phone. I faltered in my step as I experienced some major case of deja vu.
"Are you alright Yusuke?" Kurama asked as he steadied me. I blinked and looked at him.
"Yea...I think I am." I answered. Kurama nodded and headed out. Hiei followed him, leaving me to lock the door and catch up with them.
It took a while and the silence between us three killed me. The silence gave me enough time to think of my past. My father left my mother when I was born. When Takimori stepped in, it was my mother who beaten, but my mother had the strength to fight back. She left...and I was forced to be with my step-father because of the courts. I then was forced to take the abusement. Though, because I was a boy and because he was angered by my mother...it was much worst.
"Yusuke...where you going? We're here." I stopped walking and looked back at Kurama. Hiei and he were standing in front of my home as I was a few feet away. I silently cursed, turning back I walked to them with a grumble.
"Sorry, I feel slightly off today." I replied. They didn't say anything as I went and unlocked the door.
"YUSUKE!" A voice yelled as someone jumped onto me. My arms wrapped around their waist as I spun around. "Where have you been? I've been working on this case with Lin and she's as bitchy as me and that's not good."
"Good to see you too Jaxxia," I smiled at the woman who was hugging me. She looked up at me with a grin then looked behind me.
"Is one of them mine? I know you got Kurama, but what about the short one Hiei?" She asked me. Hiei glared at Jaxxia as I growled. "OH! So you get them both! Lucky dog...." Giggling she let go of me.
Rubbing my eyes I sighed. "Did you find out anything?" Straight to business, I want to sleep more.
"No... unforunately my main computer back home was hacked into. I have Angel tending to it but I don't know how long that will take. Her skills are far less than mine..." Jaxxia said with a frown. "But I did find out that this guy had an accomplice. I don't know who, but he did."
"Thanks Jaxxia...now tell me am I going to find any surprises in my house?" I asked as I walked to the kitchen.
"Yusuke! How dare you think that of me! I'm not the one with two men following me around." Jaxxia said as she and my two demons followed me. My demons....that sounded good.
"I'm sure we could find you one..." I replied with smirk.
"Really?" Her eyes lit up and looked at Kurama and Hiei.
Kurama smiled and scratched his cheek. "Um....sure?"
"That is so cool!" She squealed and bounced. I shook my head and pulled out an apple from the fridge. I walked outside onto the deck and seated myself on the top stair. Hiei and Kurama followed silently letting Jaxxia say by herself as she got over her excited mood. I bit into my apple as Hiei stood beside me. Kurama smiled and sat between my legs on the stairs. The red haired kitsune tilted his head back and opened his mouth. I raised an eyebrow and took another bite from the apple. He pouted playfully and crossed his arms. I smirked and looked at Hiei. I grabbed the fire koorime and pulled him down into a kiss. I let the piece of apple pass into Hiei's mouth, who took it greedily, tongue touching tongue while he stole it from my mouth. He pulled away and grinned at Kurama licking his lips.
"Now that just is not fair....is this how you are going to treat your mate?" Kurama said. I shrugged.
"I think Hiei deserved it...."
"Agreed. Now shut up fox." Hiei said sitting down beside me. I took another bite and leaned in to give it to Kurama. He opened his mouth and took it hungrily. When I pulled away he leaned up and kissed my throat before I sat up fully. We eventually finished the apple like that before Jaxxia came out to join us. By that time the apple core was already in the waste basket and my hands were skillfully playing with Kurama's red mane.
"Hey...I didn't know you could handle hair so well." Jaxxia said jumping down onto the sand before us. I hummed and started to pulled Kurama's hair back and braid it. I then unbraided and raked my hands through it. Kurama purred as I began to massage his head. "If I didn't know any better I'd say you played with dolls when you were younger. Lil' Yusu-chan playing with dollies!" Jaxxia giggled. My hands stopped as I looked up at Jaxxia.
"I did..."
Jaxxia stopped giggling and looked at me. "Are you serious?"
"Tell anyone and you are dead..." I replied.
"Oh this is priceless! By the time this gets across the web....there'll be T-shirts!" Jaxxia said laughed.
"That's it! Jaxxia you have three!" I said standing up.
"Uh oh!"
"Three what Yusuke?" Kurama asked looking up at me. Hiei snorted as watched as I suddenly jumped toward Jaxxia. She laughed and ran off down the beach. "Oh...do you think we should help her?"
"Get between the detective and his goal? I rather just watch." Hiei said as I chased after Jaxxia.
"GET BACK HERE!" I yelled.
Jaxxia laughed as she jumped and twirled. "Gotta catch me!"
I growled and continued to chase after her up and down the beach with my demons watching us.

End! Sorry Jaxxia I didn't remember the how 'Doll' Scene we planned out. Sorry! But yes...this will be a recurring joke, so If I catch you I might add it in.
