Chapter 18

(Raion's POV)
Kurama-tenshi was tense as he stared at the archer. I blinked a few times as the archer lowered his bow and smiled at us. Hiei growled under his breath and stepped in front of me with his hand on his sword. I was throroughly confused as I looked at the archer. He stared into in my eyes then shook his head.

"Ah, I figured as much." He spoke as he walked toward me. Stopping in front of Hiei, he called to me. "Come here boy..." I tried to get around Hiei but the half koorime stopped me. Also, a hand grabbed mine. I turned to see Kurama-tenshi shaking his head.

"Don't move demon..." Hiei hissed. I looked at the archer. His midnight blue eyes smiled from behind his glasses. He raised his hand and flicked it to the side. Hiei and Kurama-tenshi flew into the wall. I gasped and looked at them. The archer appeared in front of me and grabbed my chin pulling it back to face him.

"So...Raion, what in the blazes happened to let you out?" He asked softly with British accent. He lifted my chin more looking deeply into my eyes.

"Rose Whip!" A green thorny vine lashed out and wrapped itself around the arm holding my chin. "Kyuushi, leave him alone!" Kurama-tenshi said as he sat up pulling the whip. Kyuushi's looked blankly at Kurama-tenshi as he allowed his arm to be tugged away from my chin.

"Really now Kurama," He said as his eyes glinted. The vine whithered and fell to the ground. "I'm not going to harm my own pupil." Kurama-tenshin seemed shocked by this news. Hiei's eyes widened as he heard it too.

"Pupil?" Kurama whispered. "You trained Yusuke?"

"Of course I did," Kyuushi replied. "How else would I know of Raion?" He turned to me and smiled. "So...Yusuke retreated again did he?"

"Yes...Kyuushi-sensei, you know Kurama-tenshi?" I blinked tilting my head to the side. Kyuushi smiled and grabbed my right wrist. Pulling off the cuff, he revealed the vine tattoo. I blushed and tried to hide the marking. Sensei chuckled.

"I am his brother Raion." Kyuushi said. My body froze as I looked Kyuushi in the eye. "Your angel is my younger sibling, which I suppose from the evidence, makes you his mate."

"H-hai..." I blushed. "Kyuushi....you didn't need to throw them aside..."

"It was fun that way," He said as I went to Hiei and Kurama-tenshi. I helped them up. "Besides, they need to know not to act so agressive in front of strangers."

"Are you alright?" I said ignoring Kyuushi. Hiei looked at me.

"Why didn't you tell us Kyuushi trained you?" I blinked. Crossing my arms I glared at him slightly.

"He didn't tell me that he was Kurama's brother." I replied. "Plus I had numerous senseis in the last three years, but Kyuushi is one of five that I..."

"Raion-chan..." Kyuushi stopped me.

"What?" I turned to Kurama-tenshi who looked down at me with hurt eyes. "Gomen," I whispered.

"Must you make him feel guilty for not telling you something so trivial?" Kyuushi said from behind me. I turned my head down and sighed. It was my fault anyway. "Geez," He said. I can tell he's running a hand through his hair, he does that when he's annoyed. "Raion, go retrieve my arrows for me. I have to talk with these two." I nodded slightly and ran to the target to get the arrows. Doesn't matter how far I go, I have heightened hearing. I listened in as I pulled out the arrows.

"Why are you here?" Kurama-tenshi asked.

"I'm here because a Lord allowed me too." Kyuushi said. "I didn't take you two to be the ones Yusuke told me about."

"Yusuke talks about us?" Hiei said.

"Well, he said you were his teammates. He also told me of why he wanted to be trained and other personal details."

"Why didn't he tell us?" My angel questioned.

"The bloody hell if I know." Kyuushi replied. I decided to stop it before they started to fight so I turned with all the arrows in my hand and ran back. "Thanks Raion..." He said as he put the arrows back in the quiver.

"May I?" I asked pointing to his arrow and bows. Kyuushi nodded and relinquished them to me. I took them and got in front of a target.

"You do remember my training Raion?" Kyuushi asked. I nodded and knocked an arrow on the bow. I drew it back and raised it up. Anchoring the string back to my cheek, I took aim. Once I felt my aura flow in control I released the arrow. It flew right into the target's bullseye. I continued to to that until all six arrows were in the red target area. I turned and smiled at Kurama-tenshi and Hiei.

"See, told you..." I said. Kurama-tenshi smiled at me and clapped.

"Bravo Raion." Kyuushi said. "Want to try beating an expert?"

"You?" Hiei smirked. "I bet he could win over you."

"Oh he has," Kyuushi said smiling. "But I am talking about my guest..." He pointed to the target. We turned to see Atogi retrieving my arrows.

"Doctor Atogi?" Kurama-tenshi blinked.

"Hello Red." Atogi greeted. He looked at me and smiled. "Shall we?" He said as he walked over to us. He handed me the six arrows.

"You're the expert...?" I asked slowly.

"Of course," Atogi replied smiling. "So will you accept the challenge?" I looked Atogi in the eyes for a moment before nodding my head.

"Splendid!" Kyuushi said pushing up his glasses. "How about at your own pace? No set time limit?"

"Sounds good? What about you?" The doctor kept his eyes on me. Something in the back of my mind started to become unnerved by that look.

"O-okay..." I said softly. I think Hiei and Kurama-tenshi noticed my hesitation.

"Are you sure?" Kurama asked. I nodded once. Why the hell not? Not like it's worth anything.

"How about a small wager then?" Kyuushi asked. Dammit!

"Wager you say?" Atogi smirked. His eyes still on me. "What kind?"

"May we just get this over with?" I said trying to sound like Yusuke. I hope I did a good job.

"Well Atogi, between you and me. Our normal bet." Kyuushi said as both Atogi and I got into out stances before our own target.

"Borish, how about if I win your student must fufill your part of our normal bet." Atogi said smiling as we pulled the strings to our jaws. My eyes widened.

"What?!" Kurama-tenshi said in shock. Hiei growled and put a hand on his sword.

"May I ask something?" I inquired as we aimed.

"Certainly," Kyuushi said smiling.

"If I win, then you Kyuushi-sensei owe me six favors." I said concentrating

"Why six?" He asked.

"That's how many arrows there are..." I said as I released the first one. Bull's eye. I'm not going to lose. Atogi also released his arrow and got bull's eyes. We continued to get Bull's eye until our last arrow. We both raised our bows an aimed at the same time. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Atogi's bow move toward me slightly. I immediately raised mine and moved it toward him before we both released. Our arrows crossed and landed in each other's targets.

"Wow..." Kyuushi said as he smirked. "I guess the bet is off."

"I guess so, nice job." Atogi said smiling at me. I lowered my bow and held my head slightly. There was a slightly buzzing in the back of my head. I think....no....he couldn't be the cause...he's normal. I shook my head and put the bow and quiver up against the back wall. I walked to Kurama-tenshi and Hiei. Atogi looks at us and smiled. "I'm sorry to shoot and run, but I must get back to the cafe." I watched as he looked at Kyuushi with a certain look. I raised an eyebrow. Kyuushi-sensei....are you and Atogi-san....

"We understand," Kurama said as he put his arm around my shoulders.

"Why don't you stay for tea with Kyuushi? I just made my special blend...it's still brewing in the kettle." Atogi said as he ran a hand through his hair. He put down his equiment and smiled. "See you later!" He waved before running out.

"So, wanna stay and chat about how Yusuke ended up in my care? I know you are dying to know Kurama." Kyuushi grinned. I frowned at Kyuushi. Must he always provoke people?

"Fine..." Hiei answered for Kurama. Kyuushi nodded and led us into his home. I ran ahead of them and went into the living room. Hiei bound after me as Kyuushi smiled. I set up the Playstation 2 and set it up. I finished putting in the memory card that said Urameshi's in when Hiei sat down near the TV.

"To get them both, you are a bloody sly one Kurama." Kyuushi said as they came into the room.

"I'm just lucky..." Kurama said as he sat behind me as I grabbed the random playstation controller that was sitting there and sat on the floor. I kicked the system on with my toe. The theme song to Kingdom Hearts came on. I felt Kurama smile into my shoulder as I played from Yusuke's saved spot. I smelt the tea in the room and wondered when Kyuushi went to get it. "Kyuushi....how did Yusuke end up in your care exactly?"

"He appeared outside my doors bloody, beat, and in a trance-like state." Kyuushi said simply. I snorted as I beat the hell out of a group of Heartless in Traverse Town.

"That's it?" Kurama asked him.

"No..." Pushing up his glasses Kyuushi sighed. "It was right after his last mission for Koenma. He failed it...."

"Yusuke...failed?" Hiei asked looking at Kyuushi. My sensei nodded and looked at me as I concentrated more on the game. I could still hear them...but I tried not to.

"Yes, failed." Kyuushi said. "A mission in Makai...all I know is Yusuke ended up bloody at my front. His stare was blank and unseeing, he just stood there staring at me, bleeding...."

"Did he bleed himself unconscious?" Kurama-tenshi asked.

"No...it is strange, he should have. I didn't question it at the time, I was too worried for letting the boy survived. He seemed to respond to harsh commands. I felt bad for doing it but he wouldn't move otherwise." Kyuushi said. "He followed like a lost pup, he obeyed everything to perfection. I had to command him to sit down, remove his shirt, hold still, allow me to care for him basically."

"All this on harsh orders?" Hiei asked.

"Yes...like I said earlier, he wouldn't do it otherwise. I commanded him to go lie down, it was then he reacted on his own. He asked me to stay with him. I inquired why, he said that my scent was like his angel...that it kept the nightmares away." I heard Kyuushi push up his glasses. "His voice was so scared and hesistant. I knew if I left him he would have a nervous breakdown."

I paused my game and turned around to look at Kyuushi and Kurama-tenshi. Kyuushi smiled as he looked at me.

"I didn't know it then, but that was the first time I met Raion-chan."

"How long did he say?" Hiei asked from his place.

"How long..." Kyuushi wondered to himself. "I helped him get the job at the station...it was a bit after that. He had his own home, but I didn't know where. So I allowed him to stay here. He didn't speak of the night he came here or what happened. He just acted normal and thanked me and helped me where he could. Hell I needed to do the repairs to the range and Yusuke did it when I went out to buy some supplies."

"That it?" Kurama-tenshi asked.

"Yea..." I answered for Kyuushi. "I was thrown back into the darkness and Yusuke pushed back the mission with me. He had to subdue a raging mob of demons. S-Class demons. He was out numbered."

"But Koenma told us that Yusuke completed that mission." Hiei said as he narrowed his eyes. "How did he fail?"

"He didn't remember what happen after the demons surrounded him and began to close in. Raion told me that they were in an arena in the South Rali Forest. I went to check it out..." Kyuushi answered.

"What did you find?" Hiei shifted slightly. Was it out of nervousness of the truth or fear? Or maybe anger...I couldn't tell.

"Not a bloody thing..."

"What do you mean?" Kurama-tenshi asked.

"The arena was an old coliseum I remember passing by when I was younger. When I went there after Yusuke told me of the mission, I found everything in ruins. It was barren."

"You mean the coliseum was destroyed." Kurama-tenshi said.

"No...I mean everything in a twenty mile radius was barren." I felt Kurama-tenshi's and Hiei's eyes on me. I shrugged at them. "Raion doesn't remember either, so don't try to question him."

"How could that happen? Who could of done it?" Kurama-tenshi asked.

"The bloody hell should I know?" Kyuushi said in a huff. His hair fell over his shoulder as he looked at us through his glasses. "I just watch over him. Yusuke, a few months after the incident asked me for names."

"Names?" Hiei raised an eyebrow.

"People who could train him in different areas of magic, martial arts, strategies, and how to defeat different types of demons."

"So basically Yusuke is a fighting genius?" I looked at Kurama-tenshi with a sad look.

"Basically..." I replied.

"Why doesn't he act like one?" Hiei asked.

"Because Yusuke wants a sense of normality in his life. When he's not fighting for his life, he forgets all he is taught." Kurama-tenshi's brother said as he sighed. He closed his eyes then looked at the ground. "Yusuke told something to me once. He was lying on his futon, pale...his eyes were closed but you could sense the burden of his past on his shoulders. He told me...he didn't deserve to live....that he--"

"Wanted to die because a filthy bitch like him shouldn't live. He is nothing but a toy that is screaming 'rape me'. That he tried to kill himself numerous times, but fate stopped him." I picked up after interrupting. Kyuushi stared at me and nodded. "Since his last attempt at suicide when he was younger...Yu-chan just grins and bares it. Holding all the emotions on the inside and never letting it out."

"But...that can destroy a person..." Kurama-tenshi said.

"Indeed it does..." Kyuushi said sadly. "For three years I've watched Yusuke change. He is no longer the person you once knew brother..." The two brothers looked at each other with solemn face. I rubbed my eyes and leaned forward onto Kurama's lap. He started to run his hands through my hair as I kept my head on his lap.

"So what do we do now?" Hiei asked. "We can't let him fall further into this ditch he's dug."

"No...we can't..." Kyuushi stood up. "Raion, your stays usually last about to the third night, fourth morning? Why not stay here for the time being?"

"But what of Hahaue?" I asked looking at Kyuushi.

"Kyuushi will take care of it..." Kurama-tenshi said as he leaned down and kissed my cheek. I smiled and nodded. I watched from Kurama-tenshi's lap as Kyuushi turned and walked away. He stopped and looked back toward us.

"Oh...and Raion, I stocked the library with a ton of new books for your enjoyment. I even got some from America. I hope you enjoy them tomorrow. Night..." He smiled before leaving the room.

"Ready for bed?" I asked them with a smile. Kurama-tenshi nodded and helped me up. Hiei stood and followed as I led them to Yu-chan's old room. Hiei appeared behind me as I opened the closet. He looked in as I pulled out three sleeping yukatas. I handed one to him and smiled as he stared at it. Kurama-tenshi grinned and grabbed his.

"Should we help Hiei into his before we get into ours?" He suggested. I grinned and nodded. Hiei looked confused as Kurama-tenshi crept closer to him. I watched with curiousity as Kurama-tenshi leaned down and captured Hiei's next. The little demon moaned with pleasure as Kurama-tenshi's hands undid his shirt and pulled it off. The sly fox took the yukata haori in one hand and started at Hiei's pant with the other. I felt myself blush, before being pulled out of the room. A hand was over my mouth as I was pulled into a different room with my yukata.

"Sh...it's okay Raion..." A smooth voiced soothed as he let go of my mouth. I looked up to see Kyuushi-sensei.

"Sensei?" I asked quietly. Kyuushi smiled and pushed me behind a rice paper fold.

"Get dressed, we need to talk." I blinked a bit before doing as I was told. I walked to him in a dark red yukata. "Handsome as always Raion-chan..." Kyuushi said as he led me out of the room through a different door.

We exited through another door into the garden. I stared at the sight with a slight smile. It was nighttime, only a half moon shone in the sky. Fireflies glowed in the darkness of the garden as Kyuushi led me out into it. "Kirei..." I murmured as we stopped before a stone structure. It was scuplted into a man with a bow. His back was turned to us as he reached for the quiver on his back. His eyes were blindfolded and his hands covered in bandages. His bow, unlike the rest of it, was obsidian and gleamed in the moonlight.

"Have I told you about this man? Hayasa Hikari?" Kyuushi asked me. I shook my head.

"But from the name....Light Speed?" I looked at him.

"He was the fastest demon archer in all of Makai." Kyuushi told me. "He was undefeatable. His genuis in battle were unmatched. Though...he was undefeated on the battlefield, in his home only two people could subdue him."

"Two people?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Like you he had two mates....two people who he could trust and love." Kyuushi spoke in knowing voice. The fireflies gathered around us and the statue in a wave of light. "But he held a secret from them...a dark one that led to his demise."

"You don't want me...Yusuke to make that mistake." I said with a sad tone in my voice. Kyuushi looked at me with a calm yet soft look.

"I don't want anyone to get hurt." He said. Turning to me, he pulled me into a hug. He embraced me tightly and sighed. "Trust Kurama...if you can't do that all is lost. You understand?"

"Hai, sensei..." I pulled away from Kyuushi and looked at the statue. Hayasa Hikari...his hair was pulled back into a small ponytail at the nap of his neck. He was built similar to me, but a bit more muscular. I sighed. Learn from the past...that's what Hahaue always taught me.

"I'm going to back to the house, don't stay out too long." Kyuushi said. He patted my shoulder and left. It was the fireflies and I. I shook my head. It was going to a long night.

OoOoOo (Normal POV)

Kyuushi came back out of his japanese home about an hour or two later. He sat on the wooden stairs that led from the open hallway to the backyard. His room door was open behind him. He stared out at Raion with a sigh. "That boy..." He murmured as he rubbed his eyes. His glasses hung dangerously low on his nose as he watched the young alter ego play with the fireflies before Hayasa Hikari's statue.

"Kyuushi?" The elder youkai in disguise turned to see his brother, Kurama. He raised an eyebrow as he saw the boy's golden eyes.

"Youko?" Kyuushi whispered. The red haired man nodded as he silently took a seat with the archery master. "So what brings you out into the late night?"

"The young one didn't return to the room." Youko replied with Kurama's voice, though it was a tone deeper.

"I decided it would be best not to subject Raion to the foreplay mates endure just yet." Kyuushi replied. He looked his brother up and down.

'He hasn't done too bad for himself. At least he's safe...' Kyuushi thought as he turned his head back toward Raion. The young alter-Yusuke was now trying to catch firefly. The sensei smiled. 'It will be hard for him...when the time comes...'

"Has Raion always been naive in the intellectual way?" Youko asked. Kyuushi chuckled.

"Yes, the little cub has always been like that. He has even seen through my ways to help him subtitledly." The silver fox in disguise turned to Kyuushi. "He is smarter than he lets on. He knows it too. Raion's past though...forced to be naive to hide from his father. I have yet to get the full story. Though from Atsuko has told me and what Rai Atogi has on file. One can assume...."

Youko didn't like how his brother trailed off.

"What do you mean Kyuushi?"

"You'll understand in due time, you must not force things. Let the secret river flow into the bay on its own." A snort was heard.

"Always the one to refer to your metaphors." Hiei said as he came out of the shadows.

"Shouldn't you be asleep?" Youko said.

"No worries Youko, you know Hiei you don't always have to hide in the shadows." Kyuushi turned to the short half-koorime. Hiei snorted again. Youko smiled. "Anyway, trouble is brewing in Makai...from my contections. I will need to leave soon to help my counter-part."

"You have a mate?" Youko teased.

"Yes...I have a mate. I am older than you by 110 years..." Kyuushi said as he looked back at Raion. The young one was at the other side of the statue. "I'll be missing every so often...so I will leave a cell phone number with Rai. But I want you guys to do me a favor."

"Why would we help you?" Hiei asked.

"Because I want you to watch over Raion and Yusuke for me. That's all I ask." Kyuushi turned to them. "Can you guys do that?"

"You don't have to ask..." Youko said. "He is my mate, it is my duty."

"Hiei..." Kyuushi turned to his eyes. Hiei looked at Kyuushi and glared at him.

"Do you take me for a fool, of course." He replied. The elder youkai smiled and pushed up his glasses.

"Good, now get back to bed. I'll bring Raion in when he is finished." Kyuushi said looking the statue, he suspected the young on was sleep beside the statue. Hiei looked like he was about to protest but Youko who reverted back to Kurama, he had his emerald green eyes again, stopped him.

"Thank you, that would fine Kyuushi-san." Kurama stood and began to go back to their room with Hiei.

"Kurama..." The red haired man stopped and turned to the elder man, who keep his eyes on the statue. "You can call me onii-chan you know. We are after all, family." Kurama nodded and continued back into the house with Hiei. Kyuushi stood up and began to walk to the statue. 'We might be family Little brother' He walked around the statue and looked down at Raion, who had fallen asleep at the base of the statue. It was cute image, especial with the young man being surrounded by fireflies. '...But if you harm this one, I'll make you regret it.'

Sorry it took so long, writer's block. Here is this chapter. Short yes, but more in store. Er...nothing else to say but here?
