"I cant breath," she grabbed her throat and fell to her knees, seeing only distorted figures racing at her. All of the sudden she fell limp and her slashed up body fell to the floor…lifeless.

She awoke in a coughing rage, sweating profusely. Her skin felt cool and moist, a shiver eerily crawled up her spine as a threatening wind flew through her window. Getting up from her not so comforting bed, she closed the window, cursing at the wind. She walked back over to her bed and dragged off the sheet, wrapping her thin body. She glanced at her reflection in her mirror, which often deceived her. A pair of crystallized magenta eyes were staring back at her, as if they were laughing at her and her pathetic ways. Her pasty pink lips curved a bit, almost a smirk. The moon only aided how pale she was. She dangled her head towards the floor, her ravens black hair hiding her face. She looked up and ran her thin fingers through her hair, it felt like silk frozen over. Maybe she should stop sleeping with her window open during the coldest of winter nights.

True she could be considered beautiful. As a matter of fact all her friends constantly reminded her of their envy of her looks. Yes the guys swarmed all over her but from a distance, some say to leave her alone. She wasn't up to the popularity standard. It's okay though. She knew she didn't fit in, or at least her subconscious reminded her of this through her dreams. What were these dreams about? It was always her who was in trouble, always her who was needed. Which, she felt, was far from the truth. She often wished she was capable of interpreting these dreams that constantly haunted her.

The annoying beep of her alarm clock startled her from her train of thought, she ignored it. 5:30 was too early. Damn you school. She walked into her bathroom to take a warm shower and blow dry her stick straight hair. Walking over to her closet she pulled out a black and red plaid mini skirt along with opaque black panty house and a white quarter inch sleeved with a stitched on red and black star. Beep Beep Beep. I hear yah I hear yah. She walked over to the alarm clock and unplugged it, laughing to herself. Ha! See if you annoy me now!

Her mothers voice called out to her, informing that she would be late if she didn't leave now. Slipping on her black DC shoes she grabbed her small baby blue backpack and ran downstairs.

"Why do we have to be here when we can be out there fighting!" yelled Yuske even before he entered Koenma's.

"Oh just shut up and listen. I have a mission for you and I'd say it's rather important! Now…as you know we haven't been able to find a to close that portal for a couple months now and many have died. Both human and demon." An image of a young girl, about 17, was shown on Koenma's looking glass. "Her name is Ryu. She is the answer we've been looking for."

"What the hell? She's just a girl. Look at her." Said Yuske.

Kurama looked into the magenta eyes and smiled with satisfactory, "Looks can be deceiving."

Koenma cleared his throat and continued, "She was born for one purpose, her life was basically planned out. She is what we can call a gate keeper. She is the only one of her kind that exists and has the power to close this portal. You must retrieve her and she will join your party until you manage to get where the portal is located. You must protect her at all times. Understood?"

"Oh please. I'm not going to waste my time on a gate keeper. They're kind was weak." Growled Hiei, readying to walk out.

"She's a hybrid, and so was her mother. She may impress you with her power. Be careful though, she's unaware of it."

With that along with a few other complaints the group set out to find this girl. Koenma called Botan behind and informed her of some important information, "Don't let anyone get attached to her, she's going to die in the mission. It's what she was born to do." Botan's eyes grew teary as she asked if there was hopefully another way. His response was not what she had wanted.
