Spirit Of The Black Dragon
Chapter 1: Blood Of Indra
She stood in front of Koenma's desk looking somewhat bewildered, "You called me sir?" Her lilac colored hair was pulled back into a neat ponytail, her deep pink eyes gazed at him with gentleness and wonder. She held a bow in her left hand and a quiver of arrows was on her back over her black cloak that had dark purple velvet trim that veiled the clothing she was wearing underneath.
Botan had been sent to her earlier that day and was told that Koenma needed to speak to her, seeing as how her family was always on good terms with him, she went to see how she could be of help.
Koenma sat at his desk staring intently at the girl in front of him, "I need to ask you a favor Trinity." he said in a calm voice.
Trinity smiled softly, "Yes, how may I be of help to you?"
Koenma removed a thin stack of paper between the leafs of the folder on his desk, scanned over it quickly with his eyes then handed it to her. "Look at this." he ordered lacing his fingers together and leaning back in his chair.
Trinity looked over the papers, "I see…" She read over the typed letters, careful not to miss a word and biting her bottom lip gently as she saw a picture a menacing demon. He had sunken black eyes, pointy ears, scaly yellow skin and appeared quite powerful by his appearance, but appearances could be deceiving. "So, you want me to do this?-slay this demon, Kiyoshi, for you before things get out of hand with him."
Koenma nodded solemnly, "Correct, will it be any trouble for you?"
She shook her head, "I'm a demon slayer, I do this type of stuff for a living Koenma." She then eyed Koenma suspiciously, "There's more isn't there?"
"Nothing gets past you," Koenma said retrieving the folder from her, a hint of amusement in his voice, "I hope it wouldn't be of any trouble if my spirit detective accompanies you, he's starting t get lazy and I need to light a fire under his ass before he gets used to not having work."
Trinity giggled, "You found another lackey, must've been hard."
Koenma's face lightened a bit from his stern expression, "You have no idea…" he sighed then continued with a strict tone, "Are, you up for this?"
Trinity thought for a moment then replied, "Your spirit detective isn't going to cause me any trouble is he and he better not be annoying or stupid because if he is…that will make this more difficult than necessary. I don't want to be like a babysitter or anything either."
Koenma sweat dropped, -If she knew about him, she'd kill me…better not mention what he's like.-
[Are you talking about the spirit detective?] Trinity asked narrowing her eyes at him, Koenma swore he saw them flash with lightning.
[You can read minds can't you?] Koenma asked bitterly looking as though his privacy was being invaded.
[Obviously], Trinity glared at him. [The spirit detective's a moron isn't he?]
"That depends on your definition of moron," Koenma said reverting to normal chatting, she seemed menacing when communicating telepathically.
Trinity frowned at him, "My definition of moron is someone who is brash, has no manners, always think they're right, acts before thinking about consequences and extremely arrogant."
Koenma sank back in his chair and hastily changed the topic, "So about this demon Kiyoshi…did you read the papers?"
"Yes," She said quietly, "He's trying to resurrect Kosshi."
"You are informed of the legend aren't you?" Koenma asked raising an eyebrow.
"All demon slayers know the story," she responded hardly audible her eyes become glazed over and were in a trance, "A dark dragon, Kosshi, born from the shadows. It used to ravage the earth, destroying everything and anything. Until one day Indra challenged it, they fought for five days and nights and Indra finally sealed it in a remote cavern. Though no one knows the extent of the dragon's powers, it was suggested that it was capable of destroying Makai, Spirit World and everything else. " She stopped for a few seconds then whispered, "It must be stopped, I will not allow such a fate to some." Trinity looked up at Koenma, "How far is Kiyoshi in breaking through the barriers?"
"Almost half way, I know this seems like late notice, but no one noticed what he was up to until recently." Koenma leaned his elbows on the desk and folded them, "But…you do know what he needs in order to bring Kosshi back, don't you?"
The slayer nodded, "I know, my grandparents told me when I was little before they passed away as did my parents and brothers did. I'm the only one of my family left, so now the whether or not the dragon will be revived depends on me. For to bring it back, it needs the blood of whom sealed it away into darkness, Indra was an ancestor of mine and now I'm the sole descendent." She hung her head, and what a burden being Indra's descendent was. She then took a bandage off of her left wrist and showed him that she had a tattoo of a small black dragon on it with the kanji of courage on one side of it and the kanji for strength on the other with a small border of snakes around it in a pentagon shape, "I'm the only one who has this crest on my wrist, this proof of my lineage."
A few moments passed by in silence, but t seemed like an eternity before he said, "That's a reason why I'm sending Yusuke to help you." Koenma said staring at the tattoo on her wrist just before she covered it back up with a bandage.
"Yusuke?-oh…the spirit detective you mean. What?" She tilted her head to the side, unsure of his meaning.
Koenma took a deep breath, "You need someone to help protect you during this entire thing, he can help even if it's a little as can his friends."
Trinity raised her eyebrows, "Why are you sending me to defeat Kiyoshi if he's the one who wants to bring Kosshi back, wouldn't it be easier to send this Yusuke?"
"He wouldn't stand a chance against Kiyoshi," Koenma stated plainly, "You're the only one I can depend on if I want the job done quick and with the most care."
-It doesn't make sense to me- Trinity pouted then a serious thought popped in her mind, "But what if Kosshi's spirit leaves the talisman when Kiyoshi gets it, isn't the dragon capable of possession Koenma sir?"
"That would be a problem," Koenma answered rubbing his chin thoughtfully, "It could control anyone, but it would only be allowed to use the abilities of whom it possesses, it needs to be revived in order to use it's own powers."
Trinity leaned against the desk, slightly sitting on it, "So when will I met this Yusuke and his companions? I want to get started on this right away, time is of the essence."
"Come back tomorrow, they'll be here." Koenma said. "We have some time for as the deeper Kiyoshi gets in the cavern the longer it takes to break through the barriers. Don't worry."
Trinity still looked worried, but knew it wasn't best to rush into things. She bowed, "I'll be going." Then she left the room to be greeted by her pet, Nirvana, a big Siberian tiger with light blue eyes, white flaming paws and huge angelic wings which made it able it to fly.
Nirvana nuzzled her owners face purring sweetly and Trinity grinned, "Let's get going then." She then grabbed Nirvana's leash which was a thick, black, long leather strap that was connected to a spiked collar around the tiger's demonic tiger's neck.
She walked down the hallway leading Nirvana when Botan stopped her, "So, what did Koenma want?" she asked eyeing Trinity and noticing the girl's unhappy face.
"He just wanted to tell me that I need to stop an ancient dragon from being revived that will annihilate the everything," Trinity replied scratching behind Nirvana's ear with an awkward smile on her face.
Botan put her hands over her mouth in somewhat surprise and a soft, "Oh," escaped her lips then she swallowed and lowered her arms to her sides. "But that would be especially dangerous for you, seeing as you are Indra's last--"
"I know," Trinity interrupted abruptly, "I'm always reminded of that everyday when I visit my family's graves." Trinity turned her head so her profile face Botan s images of her family flashed before her eyes, the good times, the bad times, their deaths…
Botan saw the saddening look on Trinity's face, "I didn't mean to make you remember such memories, sorry." She said berated herself for making the young slayer recall such painful things.
Trinity rolled her teeth over her bottom lip then turned back towards Botan and smiled, "Don't worry, it's just something…I have to get used to." She gave Botan another forced smile, "See you tomorrow." And Trinity swung one of her legs over her pet tiger and maneuvered herself in a sitting position, she then waved as Nirvana began to take flight and finally disappeared in the darkness of the hallway.
Botan looked after Trinity and then let her gaze drop to the floor, "I hate it when she smiles like that."
"It's painful to see, isn't it?" Koenma asked coming up behind the ferry girl.
Botan jumped a little, "Eh, Koenma sir, what are you doing here?"
"I need you to find Yusuke and tell him to come to met me tomorrow, understand?" Koenma said folding his hands behind his back then walking away.
"Ah, yes sir!" Botan said bowing slightly then getting on her oar to find Yusuke.
Koenma shook his head as Botan left with his thoughts on Trinity, "Maybe I'm asking too much of her."
**********Trinity's Bedroom*********
Her room was cluttered with text books on the ground, clothes not in wardrobe, papers and other miscellaneous objects scattered everywhere. Just because she was a demon slayer didn't mean she didn't have to go to school like all other fifteen-year-old girls.
She lay on her bed with her head on a dark blue pillow with the lighter blue bedcovers pulled up to her chin while Nirvana was carefully curled up in a corner snoring peacefully.
She wiped tiny beads of sweat of her face then sat up in the dark room throwing the bed sheets off of her body.
Trinity looked out of her bedroom window at the black night and the moon that was hanging in the sky.
She pushed the covers off her and walked over to the window in the dimness of her bedroom, stumbling over her bow and quiver which were on the ground next to her bed.
She went over to the window and opened it slowly then propped her elbows on it and rested her chin in her hands, sighing.
It must have been around midnight, for all she could hear was a deadly silence and the bleak mist of the night was everywhere.
She pushed a stray tendril of her lilac hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear, she had put her hair up in a ponytail before she tried to go to sleep. The large, loose white sleep shirt she was wearing let the cool air pass between its threads to cool down her hot skin as did the plain black boxers that she had on.
She pursed her lips together when she heard Nirvana stir in her sleep, Trinity glanced over her shoulder at her slumbering tiger. Nirvana looked so content, something she wished she could be at the moment.
Trinity went back over to her bed and flopped down on it, not bothering to pull up the covers and closed her eyes.
~~She was no older then eight, her short hair was in two small pigtails tied with red ribbons and her face was red from tears. She was standing in the pouring rain outside of her family's dojo, crying.
Blood was all that she could see through her hot tears that poured steadily down her face.
She was muttering silently to herself, clenching her fists and gritted her teeth together, "It isn't fair…it isn't fair…"
She blinked back her tears which were quickly replaced by new ones.
Her tattoo was searing in pain on her wrist, changing from the black outline to a dark crimson color. Blood began dripping from it and trickled down off her hand.
She screamed in utter pain, it felt as though the hottest fire was burning through her flesh where the tattoo was.
Her sobs of sadness mixed with pain until there was no feeling at all.~~
She jolted awake to find that Nirvana had been licking the side of her face.
Trinity's heart was beating rapidly, but went down as she closed her eyes and began breathing slowly.
She then opened her eyes and looked out the window to see it was morning already and the sun was out with clear blue skies.
The slayer sighed heavily then stood up stretching her muscles then examined the tattoo one her wrist that was giving off a prickly feeling, but it could be ignored.
She undressed and changed into a black turtle neck tank top with black baggy pants that had buckled and chains on it the put a silver studded belt around her waist. She then found her pair of black knee high boots under her bed and put them on then she grabbed her cloak and fastened the golden fasting around her neck. Trinity then slung the quiver of arrows over her back and grabbed her bow.
"Come on Nirvana," she called to her pet tiger who was laying in a patch of sunlight, "We need to go."
Nirvana growled sheepishly, but eventually stood up and went over to Trinity then licked her hand.
Trinity grinned and patted the tiger's head which earned a deep purr of delight, "Let's go, Koenma will kill us if we're late."
