Spirit Of The Black Dragon
Chapter 2: Flames From Hatred
"You're late." Koenma said flatly when Trinity entered the room.
She smiled sheepishly, "Sorry, I kind of overslept…" Nirvana nudged her which made her giggle briefly, "This one had to wake me up." She patted her pet tiger on the head then turned her attention back towards Koenma.
It took her a few seconds to register that there five other people in the room standing in front of his desk.
Obviously Botan was there, but she was standing in between two teenage boys, she figured the one with the black hair slicked back was the spirit detective judging by the spirit energy she was picking off him and he was undoubtedly stronger then the tall boy with the orange hair. Her eyes then drifted to the two others which made her flinch upon seeing them…demons. She wasn't found of any demons other then Nirvana.
She could tell one of them had a Jagan eye, she could sense the evil aura from it which she didn't like and the other was some type of animal spirit as far as her senses could tell. Either way, she instantly didn't like them and Nirvana was growling quietly at them.
Koenma then started the hasty introductions when he noticed her glaring at the two demons, "This is Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama." He pointed to each one when he said their names then introduced her, "This is Trinity."
She frowned but nodded curtly and said politely, "Nice to met you all." She fingered the bow in her hand still looking awkwardly at Kurama and Hiei.
"Yo," Yusuke said in reply.
Kuwabara looked at her skeptically and stupidly, "You don't look like a demon slayer."
She restrained herself from punching him in the face.
Kurama smiled, "Nice to met you as well."
Hiei didn't say anything, he looked as though he'd rather be somewhere else, anywhere else.
Trinity's eyes were darting back and forth between Hiei and Kurama, not liking being in the same room with two demons.
"Is something wrong?" Botan asked hating the silence that had followed.
"Yes there is," Trinity said calmly, "There are two demons here, that's what is wrong."
"You have a problem with that?" Hiei asked narrowing his eyes at her.
"I'm a demon slayer, of course I do." She glared at him, "I kill you demons for a living." Nirvana's growl deepened as she looked ready to pounce.
"You don't seem to have a problem with your dumb pet." He responded eyeing the angry demonic tiger.
Botan wedged herself between the two, "C'mon now, this isn't a good time to fight."
"Stay out of this," Trinity said pulling an arrow out of her quiver, "If he wants to fight then we will."
"If the stupid girl wants to fight me then let her." Hiei snorted unsheathing his katana.
Trinity momentarily glanced at his katana with little concern, raised her bow and put her arrow in place aiming it expertly at him then she let some of her spirit energy surge into the arrow making it glow a ghostly blue color.
Nirvana let out a deafening roar which made the onlookers cover their ears and leaped at Hiei which he swiftly dodged and was about to strike it with his katana, but Trinity fired her arrow which grazed his left shoulder. But instead of the arrow going until it hit something it turned around then went right back at Hiei skimming his cheek enough to make some blood trickle down his face.
Hiei seemed surprised by that which Trinity noticed and she gloated, "The spirit energy that I put into it is locked onto your and it won't stop until it hits you."
Hiei was somewhat unnerved by this when he saw her raise her bow again with another arrow aiming at him. She let the string go and this time the arrow almost hit him in the chest had he not moved in time, but like the other arrow it came back at him. Now he had two arrows and demon tiger to worry about.
Trinity noted his speed, -Incredible, he's agility is far better then any demon I've encountered before, but this is a waste of valuable time though.-
Nirvana finally pinned Hiei to the ground digging her claws into his shoulders and the two arrows came whizzing towards him until the spirit energy around them seemed to suddenly disappear and they fell to the ground with a small clatter.
Trinity lowered her bow, "Nirvana, let him go." she called. The entire scene she had cause with him had been childish as she had just realized, she wasn't there to bicker with Hiei.
Nirvana hesitantly stepped off Hiei with bloody claws as he got to his feet fuming with anger and some embarrassment.
Kuwabara wasted no time in beginning to rant to Trinity, "What the hell is your problem? You don't kill your team mates, that isn't right!"
Trinity arched her eyebrow at him, but remained silent. Gods, did she want to slap him.
Kurama was looking over Hiei's shoulders where Nirvana had dug her claws into, "Don't worry, they'll heal fast, they're not too deep." He scanned them quickly with his eyes then turned his head towards Trinity, "That was an irrational move on your part still."
She folded her arms across her chest as Nirvana sat next to her, the tiger's eyes still gleaming with malice and a deep growl in the back of her throat, "If I hadn't realized that this was misuse of time I would have killed him." Her eyes went to Hiei, "You're lucky that getting rid of Kosshi is my first priority demon." Her voice filled with spite and contempt.
"That's your own problem if you have problems with me," Hiei said putting his katana back in its sheath.
"It will be your problem once this is through." she said raising her voice in irritation.
"Oh really?" Hiei asked looking at her scornfully.
She glowered at him fiercely, but said trying to resume a tranquil voice, "I'm a demon slay--"
"We know that!" Hiei snapped, interrupting her.
She clenched her fists and gritted her teeth, "You don't have to be rude!" Her voice elevated again.
"They argue like a married couple." Yusuke said observantly, taking some interest in what was going on before him.
Botan looked worried, "Do you think we should top them before they start fighting again?"
Kurama shrugged, "I think it would be best for them to work this out, but if they start fighting again I'm afraid we'll have to intervene so they don't end up killing one another."
"Y-you don't t-think they'd actually k-kill one another?" Botan stammered clapping her hands over her mouth.
"They both seem to have violent tendencies," Kurama informed her.
-I personally would love for shorty to get his ass kicked by a girl- Kuwabara thought to himself.
Trinity placed her hands on her hips after she had slung her bow over her shoulder, "You're so annoying…" she muttered acidly.
"The same thing can be said about you." Hiei retorted with equal if not greater disliking towards the slayer.
Trinity bit the inside of her cheek to keep herself from saying something truly nasty to him, so wasn't gong to stoop as low as swearing or offensive gestures.
Koenma cleared his throat loudly and everybody's heads snapped in his direction, "Well that went better then I originally thought it would." He said serenely.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Trinity asked.
"I thought for sure you guys were going to rip each others heads off…since you are a demon slayer and they are demons, but I'm happy that at least one of you had the presence of mind to realize your behavior was, let's say, naïve." Koenma said.
-Maybe I should have…- Trinity thought bitterly glaring at Hiei and Kurama from the corner of her eye. Although Kurama hadn't fought or argued with her, she refused to allow herself to think that maybe he was a somewhat decent demon.
The only exception was Nirvana because she had been in her family for generations helping them slay demons. Nirvana had even belonged to her ancestor Indra which made her a valuable asset in the mission.
Koenma then started again, "Now down to business." His face then grew serious, "This will be a though case for all of you unless you don't learn to get along , meaning you, Trinity, are going to have to learn to work with Kurama and Hiei if you want to or not and vice versa." The statement was followed by eye rolling and heavy sighs.
"So how are we going to get to this cavern?" Yusuke asked.
"Well…" Koenma said slowly, "It's in Mexico, near the Yucatan Peninsula, so you all will have to take a plane there then check into a hotel for the night then the next day you will have to take a boat to a remote island off the coast and that's where you will find Kiyoshi. Everything has been arranged, the flight the boat ride, so met tomorrow morning at the airport at eight and your plane leaves at ten. Alright? So don't forget to pack tonight because tomorrow you're all going to be getting up bright and early."
Everyone nodded to indicate they understood.
"Then good luck." Koenma said dismissing them.
They walked out of his office feeling one edge.
"It's not like we're going to fighting this demon though," Yusuke said, "It's that girl--Trinity, who is. Why do I get the feeling she's going to make this hard too?"
Trinity hit him over the head with her bow, "Hello, I'm right behind you Mr. Observant."
Yusuke rubbed the back of his head and grumbled something under his breath, probably a long string of curse words directed towards Trinity, but she didn't pay attention to whatever he was saying.
"I'm not going to make this hard," She said, "It's you guys that are going to make this hard."
"You're not really people, are you?" Kuwabara remarked dumbly as though he had just figured that out.
"Demon slayers aren't supposed to 'interact' with people so I guess you could say that I'm not a people person, but my first main concern is demon slaying not getting social with people." She replied nonchalantly.
"So is it that you don't like people or you lack the social ness to get along with them?" Yusuke pressed on.
Trinity thought for a moment then said, "Both in a way." She had been raised to fight, to kill demons not socialize with people or be outgoing and she had never given it much thought, but she decided she didn't really care. She didn't need anyone, but herself. Besides, she was the only one whom she could rely on.
No one said anything else as the walked through down the dimly lit corridor.
Trinity then got on top of Nirvana who seemed to be in a catty mood after all the proceedings. The large tiger then spread her wings and took off into the air with the cold wind rushing in their faces as Trinity held on to the demon's white fur so she didn't get blown off as they soared over the River Styx below them towards their home.
