YuYu Hakusho:
The Demon Familiars

(Author's note: Finaly, I finished the damn thing! I apologize if this chapter sucks, I sort of just scraped it together from a bunch of seperate pieces. I'm going to try and make it at least to 23, so it going to seem a little drawn out right here. Sort of like when movie plots slow down near the middle. :p )

Ch.19

Patience was definitely not Yusuke's greatest virtue. He couldn't stand being forced to wait outside while everyone else was in there. Well, Kuwabara, Jin, Touya, and Suzuka were also out there with him, but still Genkai could have at least poked her head out and told them what was going on. All he heard was Botan yell," His bleeding hasn't stopped!"
Then a number of voices, he'd heard Kurama, Genkai, Botan, the familiar, and a few soft spoken words from Yukina. He'd found out from Touya that Hiei had gotten attacked by the woman right before he was going to try and heal her. From what Botan had said Hiei was once again in trouble, that woman seemed to give him seriously bad luck.
A low scream tore through the silence and Yusuke gasped. He ran to the door and pounded it with his hand," Hey what the hell's going on in there?"
There was no answer and Yusuke listened to what sounded like a struggle. He could hear Genkai and Botan yelling then something large hit the floor in a muffled crash. Kuwabara was also at the door listening. Jin and Touya were still on the stairs but they were alert to the commotion.
"Man, what's all that noise about?," Kuwabara said.
The two spirit dectives jerked back when the door flew open, a panting and terrified Botan stood there. Her kimono was ripped in one spot and Yusuke could see a dark stain. Botan grabbed his arm," Help us!"
She yanked him inside and Yusuke took a few seconds to register the situation. There was blood every where, smeared on the walls, pooling on the floor, Botan slipped a few times because of it. Genkai was closest to them, holding her left arm that looked injured. Yukina stood in front of the familiar as far against the wall as they could get with out climbing up onto the ceiling. Kurama's position was far worse. His neck, arms, and torso were littered with so many cuts his once blue shirt was now dark purple. What shocked Yusuke more was who Kurama was holding down. He couldn't figure out why Hiei was in his demon form or why he wanted to hurt the fox spirit, it more than likely was a result of something the familiar did. Kurama's rose whip was pressing down on his shoulders and the thorns were piercing him.
"Kurama, hang on!," He yelled before grabbing one of the fire demon's arm. An angered growl came from his throat and he struggled against the new weight of the spirit detective.
"Kuwabara!"
The red head bounded in and joined his team-mate on the floor. Despite all three of their strengths combined it still was not enough to hold him down, he was too strong in his demon form. Hiei pushed his shoulders up and the two friends grunted in effort to keep him flat.
"Snap out of it fire demon!," Yusuke said between breaths," Hiei!"
"It is no use I'm afraid, he's pushed himself too far this time. His control is only so good."
Yusuke frowned," What do you mean 'too far'?"
The fox spirit shook his head, and kept his eyes on the struggling demon.
"Kurama what the hell is going on?"
He sighed," I don't think it's my place to tell you."
"Well, *he* sure as hell's not going to tell me," Yusuke stated gesturing to the writhing demon.
"Hmmm..."He glanced to Kuwabara who was frowning in deep thought," I think he wants to do her."
"What makes you say that?"
"Look."
Yusuke's gaze traveled down to the demon's pants, then his eyebrows rose," Why the hell were you looking down there in the first place?"
"Huh? Shut-up Urameshi, you're the only one in here who didn't fucking notice!"
"Yeah right..." He snorted.
"Please you two, this isn't the time." Kurama frowned. He cringed when the rough cloth of the fire demon's pants scraped along the cuts on his arm.
"Right." Yusuke said.
Hiei was now emitting a low whimper along with the threatening growls. Yusuke felt sorry for him, he knew how much stress sexual frustration caused, and the demon was getting a large dose all at once.
"Dammit, how long do we have to hold him down?," He grunted. He glanced up at Genkai who was having a towel held to her arm by Botan. The blue-haired woman gave him a worried expression, the old woman was just as concerned. Yukina and the familiar were still in the room, they were roughly fifteen feet away.
"Hey, why the hell is she still in here?," Yusuke yelled," Get out, quick!"
The woman glanced from Hiei to him but made no move to leave.
'Why the hell isn't she leaving?,' He thought, 'Does she actually want to stay? She's crazy!'
"Wait Yusuke!," He turned to Genkai, the old woman stood up and walked to where they were on the floor," Hiei. Hiei look at me!"
The fire demon still struggled but his red eyes were now locked onto the old psychic's face.
"Can you understand me?"
The demon blinked and growled again but ceased to fight with the three spirit detectives.
"Yes," He hissed in a whisper.
"Good," she then turned to the woman," You, familiar, do you want to leave or stay?"
"What?," She asked in a daze.
Genkai sighed," Wake up! Do you want us to leave or do *you* want to leave? I doubt he's going to calm down."
Yusuke watched her, she wasn't moving, but she wasn't telling *them* to leave either, if she was unsure about it at all leaving would be the better option.
'Hell, if I was a girl *I* would be scared to screw him like this too.'
Genkai narrowed her eyes," Yukina take her out of here."
Hiei hissed, but Yusuke had his attentions on the dark haired woman and the ice apparition. Yukina nodded and took her by the arm. Yusuke grunted as the fire demon began to increase his efforts to escape their hold. He managed to push the arm Kuwabara was leaning on up a few inches.
"Kuwabara don't cut him any slack!"
"I know dammit, I'm trying!"
Hiei let out a scream of wordless rage when Yukina and the woman disappeared behind the half open door. Yusuke yelled in surprise when a burst of strength released the demon from their clutches. The fox spirit was tossed off him, slid across the floor, and stopped next to Botan on his side.
"Shit!," Kuwabara yelled.
The fire demon lunged for the door but a wall of ice now covered it and prevented him from getting through. Hiei dug his claws in and bore gouges into the frozen water.
"You..." He hissed at the form behind the ice," Fucking ice demon...!"
"Get him!," Yusuke and Kuwabara both grabbed the demon's arms in a strangle hold. They slowly drug him back to the center of the room and held him there while Kurama quickly pressed a small thorn into the side of Hiei's neck. His red eyes narrowed, then widened. The two spirit detectives were able to relax as he went limp and sagged between them, his eyes going out of focus.
"Hey, what'd you do Kurama?," Yusuke asked.
"A drug created from a plant in the demon realm, very potent. It should calm him down."
"He definitly looks drugged to me," Kuwabara confirmed.
Yusuke sighed," Now what?"
"It will ware off in a few hours. I suggest we separate them until we can think of what to do about this."
"Our two options are either let them go at it or keep them apart for the next three weeks until it fades completely," Genkai said.
"Yeah, but Hiei'll tear her apart wont he? I mean," Yusuke glanced down at the demon," He can't control himself around her right?"
Kurama sighed, holding his side," I feared a thing such as this would happen. Hiei has finally realized he can't stay away from her for long no matter how hard he tries or the consequences are very severe."
He gestured to Yusuke and Kuwabara to give the fire demon to him," I will watch him until a decision is reached."
"You sure about that?," Yusuke frowned," He might attack you when he comes to."
"He wont," Kurama took the half-conscious demon from them and slowly walked out the room.
Touya had melted the ice wall seconds before, he was standing a few feet back on the stairs. Yusuke watched him move as Kurama carried the demon past.
'Damn, of all people Hiei is not the one who deserves this.'

The steady rise and fall of his chest was the only apparent sign that he was still alive. It was hours after the drug should have worn off and the fire demon hadn't moved at all. Kurama sat beside him, reading as usual, his brows drawn together in worry. He knew the exact dosage that he gave him it would not have lasted a minute after the time he predicted. Hiei changed back to his human form long ago, the bite mark on his shoulder was still an angry red, but at least the bleeding had ceased. The fox heard a faint sigh from him and he glanced over but the demon hadn't moved. Then Hiei rolled onto his side giving Kurama his back.
"Hiei?" Kurama asked softly.
There was no reply so the fox stood up and stepped over to the other side of where the demon lay.
"Hiei..." He whispered.
His eyes were half way open and he was staring blankly at the floor. Kurama knelt in front of him and placed a hand on his arm.
"I'm sorry Hiei."
He heard a low snort from his throat, the demon's eyes fixed on him," Why?"
Kurama sighed," I know this must be hard for you to deal with."
His hand left the fire demon's arm and he sat down, arms encircling his knees. Hiei's gaze was still locked on his face, it wasn't anger he saw in his eyes, he just looked tired. Like he'd been fighting a great battle and decided to end it and put up the white flag.
"Why are you keeping her from me?"
"You were not thinking, there was a chance you might have injured her, we had no choice."
Hiei snorted," Hn, I thought you *wanted* me to fuck her."
"Not like that Hiei."
"What do you care?"
"I don't, but it's important we keep the woman out of harms way for the meantime..."
"Or out of *my* way, apparently," He mumbled.
Kurama frowned, neither of the demons said a single word to each other for the remainder of the day.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

He watched her sitting on the floor silently not even sure if she knew he was there, or if she cared. Fire demons were as violent as his kind were cold, he did not blame her for not wanting to touch Hiei, or any other demon for that matter. Touya had never spoken a single word to Hiei before that day nor had the fire demon ever done the same. He'd seen him fight in the demon realm tournament, the fire demon lost to Mukuro. Now Hiei's energy felt different some how, it had more kick to it. Kurama and the two humans had a very difficult time keeping down. Something in the familiar's bond changed him. He crept closer until he was standing over her.

She gazed up at him, unshed tears gathering in her eyes. Touya suspected she didn't cry very often and when she did it was never around anyone who would notice. He had never cried in his entire life, he didn't know how. Certainly he had wanted to cry at different points in his existence, but it would have brought him no relief. Feeling self-pity was inefficacious in the demon realm and from what he knew it was just a useless a state of mind in the human realm. People who whined and bitched about every disaster that happen to befall them were not shown a lot of respect. No matter how horrible your experiences in life you did not have the right to say it wasn't fare. You were very lucky to have survived at all everyone would tell you. If the familiar was that upset over what was going on at the moment her life probably hadn't been the same as his. When he caught a glimpse of her the first time she looked immovable, stubborn, gazing up at him now she had the eyes of a lost and frightened child who hadn't a single soul to guide her in the right direction. It was unfortunate, but he felt no sympathy for her, no inclination to comfort the woman or help her out of the dilemma in any way. However...
"Do...,"He began," Do you want a way out of being connected to Hiei?"
He asked but didn't expect a reply, or at least not the one he was hoping to hear.
"Why?," She whispered.
"I might be able to provide you a way."
She scowled," What, do you want to fuck me too?"
"No, it isn't because of that."
"Why would you want to do anything for *me*? I thought demons could care less about helping us pathetic wastes of life."
He blinked, ignoring her obvious 'jab' at demon kind, not that they didn't deserve it.
"I'm not helping you on purpose. We have a common goal, you want out of the bond with Hiei, and...I want to take his place."
"You?," Her eyes narrowed," But why?"
He lowered his gaze to the ground," I-I want to be different. I've wanted that for along time now, and you're the only one who can give that to me."
"Different? So, you want to bond with me because you don't like who you are."
He brought his eyes up to meet hers," Not who-what."
"Is that why you asked me that question in the dream?"
"Yes."
The expression on her face was untrusting, skeptical, he doubted she would agree to it. If she did not it wouldn't matter, though a part of his sub-conscious would be disappointed he'd already chilled the larger part of him capable of malcontent long ago. He started to turn away when she spoke.
"Yes," It sounded unconfident despite her steady voice.
"Yes...you are sure?"
She nodded, brows furrowed.
"Unlike Hiei, you seem to want me around. Under the circumstances I'd rather get stuck with you than him."
His face was blank as he considered what the woman had said. Assuming she would enjoy it more with him as suppose to Hiei was shortsighted, if not a little impulsive. If she knew exactly what she was getting into her choice would not have been made so quickly.
Touya knelt in front of her.
"Do you know what I am, familiar?"
"An ice demon."
"You say it so casually and yet..."
He closed his mouth and spoke his thoughts into her mind.
'You are still unsure.'
Surprised at it, she jerked back and stared at him.
"You're a telepath too?"
He nodded.
"Hmph, must be a common thing for demons to have then."
"Not really."
The familiar was silent and seemed to waiting for him to make the next move, if there was one.
"Are you sure you want this?," He asked again.
Though the same answer came out of her mouth her eyes still held doubt underneath all the false security. Why was she saying yes if she did not fully understand what was going to happen?
'Humans are so bizarre, why is she doing this? She obviously doesn't trust me...'
He blinked," Very well, do you want to continue with this now or later?"
She bit her lip and fixed her gaze on a spot just past his shoulder.
She met his eyes shrugged," Now's as good a time as any I guess..."
Touya nodded and carefully reached out to touch her face. She flinched, it would have been insignificant if he were human. A human more than likely wouldn't have even noticed it but he saw the muscles in her face clench, he stopped with his hand in mid-air.
"May I?"
"Huh?," She raised an eyebrow at him.
"May I touch you?"
"Err-yeah, go ahead, though I'm kind of confused as to why you're asking in the first place. Hiei didn't ask."
"True, but I suggested it so I need your permission first."
"Oh," She remarked bluntly.
He continued with the motion of reaching out to her face and pressed his palm lightly against her cheek. Her aura tingled against his skin sending tiny jolts of power up his arm.
'Impossible, this wasn't here the first time I touched her, she must have changed a long with Hiei.'
He leaned in,' I wonder if...'

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The kiss was surprising, she'd expected his lips to be freezing, but they were more along the lines of room temperature, though still much colder than a human's. It lasted about three seconds until the demon pulled back.
"Remarkable...," He whispered, then leaned in to press his mouth to hers again. Jordan placed her hand on the back of his head, his wavy hair crunching around her fingers. She felt his tongue touch her lips, asking to be let in. The ice demon's cold aura encompassed her, dispersing through out the room. She shivered against him as he explored her body. Jordan would have told him he was being overly cautious with her, asking before he went any further and barely touching her, but she knew he just wanted to sense her energy, and at least he was being polite about it. She kneaded her fingers into his bare back feeling the lean muscle ripple underneath his shimmering skin. The demon had been hesitant when she requested that he show his actual form if he wanted to keep going, she'd smiled in smug complacency when the silver ring had appeared in his eyes once more. Jordan had learned it was a mistake after Touya ceased being courteous and started being a little acrimonious instead. His movements became rougher, and he was avoiding meeting her gaze.
'Shit, why the hell do I seem to piss off every demon I say more than a sentence too?'
She flinched when he entered her, digging her nails into his back. When it was over the same implacable warmth spread over them bringing a gasp from the demon's throat. Then it grew colder until Jordan's teeth chattered and her insides felt like she'd just eaten an entire gallon of ice cream in ten minutes. The scene of the Titanic sinking where the main character was floating in the artic ocean came to mind and she wondered why the hell she was thinking of a stupid movie while freezing to death. The cold was there for a while until a soft, heavy object was placed on top of her, then it slowly disappeared and she could feel her body heat rising to its normal level. Although she tried to open her eyes and sit up she couldn't. A moan escaped her lips, at least that part of her worked. Her entire body felt numb right down to her lymph nodes.
"Shit...," She hissed.
Then she heard a voice, it seemed distant, but she figured who ever said it was in the room with her. A few minutes later she was strong enough to open her eyes. Jordan turned her head to the left and a red haired demon smiled cheerfully at her.
"So you're awake now, didn't think you'd make it there for a second," He grinned," Good thing Touya went and got me instead of tellin' Genkai or the others, would have caused quite a fuss."
His grin faded slightly around the edges when Jordan didn't return it.
"Aww, don't be gettin' sad now, he didn't mean to, just an accident, tends to happen with demons who control ice."
"You're Jin, right?," she asked.
"Yep, that'd be me, I'm surprised you remembered it."
She shrugged," Short names are easier to remember."
"True."
Jordan sat up slowly, cringing at the ache in her sides.
"I'm actually wonderin' if it worked. I didn't think familiars could be connected to two demons at once."
Jordan shrugged," I don't know, figured I'd try anyway, Where'd he go?"
"Who, Touya? Oh, he's in the next room, felt kind of bad after what happened. Probably thinks you're goin' to clobber him when he comes back."
He laughed, Jordan frowned at him. Then his laugh cut off suddenly and he whirled his head around in the direction of the door. His eyes narrowed as if he felt someone coming.
"This isn't going to be good...," He whispered regretfully.
Jordan felt a lump of dread sink in when the sliding door opened and she locked gazes with a pair of questioning green eyes.
