The Demon Familiars

Ch.10

"What-what have I done?"

Hiei stared down at his hands. So much blood. He felt light headed, but there was no way it was all his. The gashes on the familiar's hip, had he done that? He couldn't remember. She was unconscious, there wasn't a chance to ask her now. Her cuts were still seeping blood, he had to prevent her from bleeding to death at least. He took the case off the clean pillow tore it to strips and tied it around her abdomen. A low moan from the left caught his attention.
He saw the red haired demon leaning haphazardly against the wall, watching him.
"Kurama, what happened?"
The fox spirit swallowed and said," I'm not quite sure my self, ask *him*." He gestured to the end of the room. Hiei turned his head.
"How long have *you* been there?"
Rhianon stepped into the light causing a shadow to fall on the bed," Since you tried to claim your familiar."
"She is not my familiar, she is not my *anything*. Why do you insist on calling her that, she's a human."
Kurama slowly got to his feet, one arm holding his stomach," I think it's time you stop denying what she is Hiei, for all our sakes."
He glared at him,"I'm not denying a damn thing!"
"Hiei!"
He jumped slightly at the foxs' raised voice. Kurama wasn't being himself, was it his fault?
"Stop this I can't stand to see you hurt yourself anymore!"
Kurama grabbed his shoulders, and shook them roughly.
"You are being a fool!"
Hiei growled,"Hn, *I'm* not the one being a fool, so stop panicking."
Kurama released his hold on the smaller demon.
He closed his eyes," I know what she is, but she doesn't know what *I* am, and I have no intention of showing her...*ever*."
"Hiei...,"Kurama said sadly.
"No, I don't want to hear it,Kurama. Leave me alone."
"Wait,"Kurama put a hand on his arm," I want to show you something."
The fox lifted up the front of his shirt. The left side of his stomach was purple.
Hiei glanced at it then back at Kurama,"And?"
"I know you don't remember, but when I tried to prevent you from hurting Jordan you hit me. It sent me into the wall." He lowered his shirt back down.
"Do you want me to apologize?"
Kurama sighed," No, you barely touched me Hiei. When you were taking the woman's blood it made you much stronger, you swatted me as if I were a fly. I couldn't even block it."
Come to think of it Hiei did feel more energized than he'd felt in the past few days. Of course, they didn't need to know that.
"Is there a point to this?"
Kurama lowered his eyes,"If I have to explain the point to you then there is no use in telling you at all."
Hiei frowned," Again with the word games, It's getting old."
He touched his face, the blood was drying to a thick gluey substance," If you'll excuse me, I need to remove this before it dries."
He glanced back at the familiar who was still unconscious. The thought of bringing her with him to wash it off crossed his mind, but he shook it away.
'She wouldn't enjoy it anyway'

He ran the ran the water over his hand to make sure it wasn't too cold. Kurama had removed his shirt and shoes, and set them aside so he could help Jordan wash the blood off. She had woken up a few minutes before, right after Hiei left. Jordan had asked where he went and why, Rhianon seemed pleased by it. He agreed to talk to her after she was cleaned up. Kurama knew the tall demon was going to report what he saw to Mukuro, and they would press harder on him to help with their sherade.
He remembered what Hiei said. He wanted to be left alone, to deal with this himself. He refused to accept help from anyone, and was reluctant to even seek help from the familiar unless he had no choice.
He stood up and dried his hand on a towel. Kurama had moved Jordan to the chair, since the bed was slightly unusable. She had the towel on again, and was hunched over, hugging herself. She looked up when Kurama walked to her. He offered her his hand, but she shook her head no. Rhianon healed the cuts but Jordan already lost a lot of blood, so moving without help wouldn't be easy. She used the chair for balance, Kurama moved to the side but still remained close incase she fell. The familiar wobbled to the bathroom door and caught the frame before her legs buckled. Kurama went to help her, but she held up a hand.
"Don't touch me," She said sternly.
"I wont hurt you."
"Don't care, stay back."
She got shakily to her feet and didn't fall the rest of the way to the tub. Perhaps tub wasn't the right word for it. It looked more like a miniature swimming pool with a faucet sticking out. The entire bathroom was enormous, and it was all done in black and red.
Jordan stepped into the water, then turned to him in the doorway.
"Out," She pointed.
Kurama shook his head," I can't leave you in here alone, if you pass out you could drown."
She sighed," Fine."
When she grabbed the black curtain around it she added," Just make sure you don't decide to become a peeping tom, or we'll get to find out how tough your family jewels are."
"Of course," Even though he'd already seen her without clothes.
A few seconds later the bundled up towel came sailing over the curtain and landed next to the tub.

Despite being dizzy she felt relieved to have Hiei away from her. The room seemed different from the first time she was there. There was a bizarre electric current in the air that hadn't existed in the place before. Then she remembered the bedroom had the same electric feel to it as well but only after she'd come out of the bathroom the first time. Was it Hiei that caused it, because of his blood?
A few minutes later she drained the pink tinted water and strained to reach for a towel. Then something soft was put in her hand, the towel.
"Thank you," She called
"You're welcome."
She rapped it around her and slid the curtain back. Kurama stood a few feet away leaning against the wall, his shirt and shoes were back on.
Water dripped down her legs onto the shiny floor. Jordan's foot slipped and she felt herself falling. Kurama was there to catch her.
"Thanks flowers."
Flowers. Kurama always smelled like flowers, but now he didn't. That made no sense. The electric buzz was coming from him instead, that made even less sense. Unless...
Jordan gazed up at him, then at the door.
"Are you alright?,"He asked.
"Yeah, sure." She pushed back and headed to the door," I'm gonna go lie down."
The second she stepped from the bathroom, she whirled around and slammed the door. Then she grabbed the door to the room threw it open and bounded to the stairs holding the towel in place with one hand. She heard foot steps behind her getting closer. She pushed the stairwell door open and practically jumped down them. Then a wave of nausea hit her. She didn't have enough blood left to pull off something like this. If it was Kurama she had some explaining to do, if it wasn't then who ever it was suspected she'd figured it out by now. It was a fatal error to stop to regain her balance. A hand closed over her arm. At the last second she screamed the only thing that came to mind.
"HIEI!"

It took longer than he thought to clean the blood off. He stared down at the bottom of the shower stall, watching the water turn pink as it washed into the drain.
Flashes of the attack on the woman ran through his head.
*Are you trying to kill me?*
'I could hear her talking, but I couldn't do anything to stop my self. I've never lost control like that before'
He crouched down in the shower curling into a ball and letting the water flow over him.
"What is wrong with me?," He whispered.
Familiar or not, she was hazardous to his health, and to her own. And Kurama, what in the world made him act so strangely? He never had emotional outbursts like that.
He faintly heard the bathroom door open, but he didn't move. If someone wanted to bother him now, they were going to have to drag him out from under the water.
The tinted glass door clicked open and Mukuro was standing over him.
"Is that yours?," She said gesturing to the washed out blood.
"Some of it."
"And the rest?," She asked as if she already knew the answer, more than likely she did.
"Guess," He said dryly.
She narrowed her eyes a bit," The familiar's."
"Correct."
"Unless you take her power it will only become worse."
Hiei laughed bitterly," I know that. I'm use to pain, I can handle it."
"It might kill you."
He reached up and shut the water off," It wont be the first time."
Then he took a towel and began drying his hair.
"Hiei!"
A voice called his name. He glanced at Mukuro who was oblivious to it, but it had sounded loud. It also sounded like the familiar.
He halted and tossed the towel down. He snatched his blood stained pants, threw them on.
"Something's wrong!," He yelled before grabbing his sword and running as fast as he could. The jagan found her on the stairs three floors up. He leaped up the stairs.
He drew his sword right before he landed by Kurama who was holding the woman in his arms. Unconscious again, she spent a lot of time like that.
"Kurama, what's going on?," He sheathed his kitana, but didn't relax.
"She ran from me, I don't know why. She fell on the stairs, thankfully she's not injured."
Hiei smirked," I have to commend you, you pull it off pretty well. Almost made an ass of me, if it weren't for your mistakes. If I didn't know Kurama so well I never would have noticed."
He drew his sword," So, do you show me your real face or do I cut off the one you're wearing now and see if it's underneath?"
Kurama smiled, then grinned. Then he began to laugh, in a woman's voice.
Hiei sneered at him,"You laugh now, let's see how funny you think it is after I'm through with you!"
The fire demon charged the imposter, but he simply tossed the familiar at him. Hiei was forced to stop or cut her in half as well. He caught her and set her gently on the floor.
The imposter jumped up ten feet and stayed suspended in the air.
"Coward! Show yourself!," Hiei barked.
"No, but I will give you my name. Call me Freyah."
"Wrong!" Hiei leaped up and slashed at her. She vanished, but Hiei managed to cut off some of her hair. The Sapphire blue strands drifted to the stairs. He landed on the railing with ease.
'Dammit, she's a copycat *and* a teleporter.'
"Hn." He jumped down to where the familiar lay. She moaned, then coughed. Her eyes fluttered open and fixed on him.
"Where'd that guy go?" She asked groggily.
"The imposter? *She* left."
She sat up,"It was a chick?"
Hiei nodded. Then he held a hand out to her, she looked at it, then at him. She grabbed his hand and he hoisted her up.
She tightened the towel around herself "I think we should go find the real Kurama, hopefully he's not dead."
"Kurama isn't killed off so easily, unfortunately neither was *she*."
He stared at the dark blue hairs, then bent down, picked one off the floor and held it in front of his face.
"Bad dye job,"he snickered. Then he let it float back to the floor.
Jordan walked to the door,"I'm going to put some clothes on, I'm sick of being in a damn towel."
Hiei watched her until she closed it behind her.
"I'd keep an eye on her if I were you, Hiei. The imposter might return."
Mukuro was standing on the stairwell below him.
"You think she's from the group that was originally after her."
"Yes."
"Hn, you may be right." He turned around, walking past her," I'm going to change, I'll be back to find Kurama."

'I can't believe I never figured it out the *first* time he acted strange. I'm getting careless.'
He growled.' That woman is more trouble than she's worth.'

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Kurama awoke on the cold floor, his whole body ached.
'That woman, she knocked me out. Jordan's in danger.'
He staggered to his feet. He had no idea how long he was out, everyone could have been dead as far he knew. He hoped that wasn't the case. Kurama searched for a door, the room looked like a storage area.
He recalled what happened before.
After leaving Yomi he wanted to speak with Hiei again. Then the woman had tapped his shoulder.
"Excuse me?,"She had said with an innocent voice.
Kurama turned around then the woman had put her fingers to his stomach and sent a bolt of electricity through him. He blacked out after that.
Kurama found the door and walked out into the hallway. If any of them *were* dead he would hunt whoever did it to the ends of the three worlds and destroy them.

(Author's note: Kurama will now return to his normal, calm self. Thank you for dealing with his overly-emotional imposter. Have a nice day/afternoon/evening/whatever. :) )
