The Demon Familiars
Ch.11
Being in jeans and a t-shirt again was a truly wonderful feeling. Jordan even had time to brush her teeth before Hiei banged on her bathroom door and told her to get the hell out or else he would come in and drag her by the hair.
"I'm coming you impatient twit!," She yelled at him.
She stalked to the door and swung it open and was met with a pair of annoyed red eyes. He was only an inch shorter then her so the impact was greater.
"Hi there, are we finished whining now?," She made her voice sound as bubbly as possible to increase the effect of her sarcasm.
"Hn,"Hiei turned around and walked out. She followed him, and walked on his left. Surprisingly this was the first time she'd *walked* anywhere with him. So far of all the times they interacted with each other one of them was either unconscious, in a trance, or half-dead.
"Why do you need me to find Kurama anyway?," Jordan asked.
"I have to baby-sit you until we find your original babysitter."
"Babbysitter?,"She snorted," Please, you need one just as much as I do, Count Dracula."
"Excuse me?," He raised an eyebrow at her.
"Your excused," She said dryly.
Hiei growled and walked faster. Jordan found it hard to keep up. They'd just finished searching three floors when Hiei suddenly stopped.
"Huh, what?,"Jordan looked at him.
"Kurama's near by."
He grabbed her wrist and ran. Or at least to Jordan it was running, very, very fast running.
Hiei halted on the other side of the hallway in front of the stairwell entry. He dropped her wrist and drew his sword. Jordan bent over, panting.
"Heart attack, that hurt," She put a hand on her side," God...dammit..."
"Quiet,"Hiei said sternly.
"Bite me," She whispered back.
The response to that was the tip of his sword tapping right next to her foot.
"Move back," He told her.
Jordan did what he said, but only because she didn't want to be near the door if anything vicious decided to come out of it. One vicious thing in front of her was enough.
Then it started to open, Jordan tensed. Kurama stood in the now open doorway. His face held no emotion even though Hiei's kitana was pressed against his jugular.
"Hiei, I see you are still alive," He said calmly, he glanced over the smaller demon's head at her," And Jordan's with you."
Jordan thought he sounded more like himself, but just to be sure...
"Hold it, test time."
She walked up to him and inhaled the air, searching for it. She found it.
"Yep, smells like flowers," she nodded her head in approval.
"Did I pass the test?," He asked, smiling.
"Sure...Flowers," She smiled back.
"Flowers?" Hiei back and forth at them," What was that?"
"A nickname Hiei, nothing important, don't worry,"Jordan snickered, he was chiding him.
The fire demon frowned," I know what it was. Why 'flowers', it's distasteful."
"I don't find it that way at all," Kurama smiled again,"I think it is...fun."
"*Fun*?," Hiei made a sound of disgust and stalked off. Leaving the two standing there.
"I don't think he found it very fun,"Jordan said.
"Apparently not,"Kurama observed lightheartedly.
Then Jordan remembered Kurama didn't know about Hiei's momentary vampirism," Ooo, I think I'd better bring you up to date on what happened while you were gone."
"That would be helpful, yes,"He nodded," And I need to report into Genkai, I'm late."
"Good idea."
Both headed back to Jordan's room, unaware they were being watched.

Meanwhile at Genkai's temple an uneasy atmosphere was spreading. Yusuke glanced down at his watch. Kurama should have called in an hour ago, the fox was never late.
'Damn' He thought 'Where are you Kurama?'
Beside him Botan sighed. She fidgeted with the communicator in her lap, smoothing her fingers against the casing over and over.
"Hey, calm down Botan, He'll show, don't worry."
"I know, it's just..."
Botan squealed with happiness when the well known beeping noise started.
"Alright! see I told you,"Yusuke said.
She opened it and answered the call. Kurama's face appeared," I'm sorry I'm late."
"Oh no problem,"Botan said," We're just glad you called in at all."
"Yeah, we thought you were dead or chained to the rack," Yusuke added.
"No, not dead, just temporarily out of commission."
"Oh, What happened?,"Botan asked.
Kurama explained everything he witnessed ,and everything Jordan told him. Well, he left some things out.
"Whoa, so Hiei's her demon now, huh?" Yusuke said after he finished," I feel kind of sorry for her." He made a face, pretending to choke himself and gag.
Kurama laughed,"Hiei isn't too enthused about it either, I'm afraid."
"Wow, Hiei has a familiar,"Botan said looking thoughtful," I wonder if they'll get along ever..."
Yusuke laughed," Are you kidding? A butch dike and an uptight male fire demon? That's a recipe for disaster if I've ever seen one."
"Yusuke!,"Botan scolded," Don't call her that!"
"What, but she *is*," He said in defense" I mean, it's pretty obvious, right?"
"Yusuke!"
"Alright, alright, lighten up already."
On the screen Kurama laughed,"I see everything here is still the same, right Yusuke?"
Botan giggled, covering her mouth with her sleeve.
"Heh, yeah, it is."
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
After distancing himself from both of the antagonizing idiots he decided to go back to his room. At least Kurama was back, now he didn't have to worry about the well-being of the human. Though truthfully being around her for those twenty minutes made the pounding of his head recede. The jagan had returned to normal as well.
Hiei made a note to find out how she did that. He didn't care if she was a familiar, but she had some kind of strange energy he'd never glimpsed in anyone else before he met her, and he wanted to know what it was.
The door to his room was slightly ajar, he hadn't made it a point to close it when he ran to where the woman was. He pushed it against the wall and walked in.
Mukuro sat in a chair, arms crossed over her chest.
He walked past her and tossed his sword onto the bed. Then he turned and said," Haven't you given up yet?"
Mukuro smiled. It wasn't a nice smile," After the incidents on the familiar's bed I gained a new impression on this. She is your familiar, whether you want her or not."
"I *don't* want her."
She stopped smiling and stood up," But, from the way you acted with her your body proves otherwise."
Hiei glared at her," I know what she is Mukuro, I don't care."
"Obviously you don't know, if you did you would take advantage of this."
"As I told you before I refuse to gain power by leaching it off another being. I know you haven't forgotten that quickly. Are you hoping against all hope?"
Mukuro leaned her head down until their eyes were level," How long do you think you can deny her? It will drive you mad," She whispered," You know what you want, take it from her and it will go away."
"No," He hissed," Get out."
"Very well, I've attempted to help you enough, you are on your own from now on."
"Fine by me," He smirked as she left.
Hiei sighed and dropped onto the bed.
'Dammit, why does she have to be right? If I can't control it I'll end up taking her life the next time.'
He closed his eyes.
'I can't believe I'm actually going to do this.'
He had one choice, and that was to ask Kurama's advice. Hiei sighed, he couldn't fathom how he'd sunk so low.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
At the same time the fire demon made his decision Kurama and Jordan were having their own conversation. About the same thing.
Jordan sat Indian style on the now clean bed, facing the fox demon who was once again sitting in the chair across from her.
"Ok, so how do I go any where near him when nine out of ten times he's either trying to chomp on me or fuck me?"
Kurama bit back a smirk at the woman's choice of words," I don't assume he truly *wants* to sleep with you. I think it's more that he can't help himself."
She frowned," Well, that does me a fat lot of good, if he's still *trying* to does it matter if he wants to or not?"
She did have a point," No, I suppose it doesn't."
Jordan threw up her hands and flopped backwards onto the bed," I'm screwed then, literally."
Kurama sighed, he felt for her. Hiei's breed of demon wasn't the gentle kind, especially during sex. A human, familiar or not, probably wouldn't survive the whole experience. They'd more than likely bleed to death before it was finished.
If Hiei accidentally killed her they would have a catastrophe on their hands.
Then Kurama's nose picked up a different scent in the room. Hiei.
His face stayed blank," Excuse me for a minute."
"Ok."
He stood up and walked to the door. Hiei was standing by it, waiting for him. Kurama had an idea of what he wanted. He opened the door quietly and let Hiei go out first, then followed and closed it behind himself.
Hiei stopped in the middle of the hall and stayed silent.
"Was there something you wanted to say to me, Hiei?," He made his voice sound as monotone as possible. He had an inkling the fire demon was about to tell him something personal and didn't want to provoke him. He heard him sigh, then he spoke" I want your oath that what I'm about to tell you will never leave your mouth, unless I say it can."
"You have it," He said quietly.
"Good," He turned his head to the side, but kept his back to him," I spoke with Rhianon before the...'incident' with the familiar. He explained to me what it would take to form a complete bond with one of them. Supposedly both our auras need to drop, and there's only two ways of doing that..."
"To be on the verge of death or to have a...,"Kurama made a motion with his hands to 'sign language' the last word.
"Exactly, so I can't form one with her, it would be impossible."
Hiei turned around and looked at him. Kurama stayed silent, his eyes lowered. He knew what Hiei meant but would wait for him to say it.
"And you know why, correct?"
"Kurama nodded.
"Wonderful. So I go mad instead."
Kurama glanced up," There *is* a way, Hiei."
"Oh? and what would that be?," He said dryly.
"Simply make it so she wouldn't be afraid of touching you in that form."
He gave the fox an exasperated face," Kurama, she's homosexual, it wouldn't matter how many times she sees me like that. She's not attracted to men."
Kurama smiled," I would not be so sure."
"She acts like a man."
"No, I'm afraid you're incorrect."
"Oh,?"He gave an indignant look,"Then what does she act like?"
"She acts like a woman who's afraid of acting like a woman."
"Same difference,"He snorted.
"No, it's not," The fox smiled,"Go in and talk to her, you'll see."
He opened the door behind him and stepped aside.
"She's in there."
Hiei gazed at the doorway, then back at him.
"Hn,and what happens if I lose control?"
"If it comes to that, then I will be in the next room, come and get me when you regain yourself," With that he left and went into the his room.
Kurama closed the door and leaned up against the wall. He felt bad for setting Hiei and Jordan up. But if this required for him to play matchmaker, then he would. He only hoped it didn't backfire.

The machine bubbled and hissed as the water and electricity surged through. Niko stood before it listening to the sound.
'Soon, very soon', He thought, 'We will have our familiar and our plan will proceed.'
A woman appeared next to him. Her blue hair was pulled behind her shoulders. Though if anyone were to take a closer look, they would see a chunk missing.
"Has it begun?,"Niko asked without turning his head.
"Yes, the familiar has found her demon, although bringing them together has proven more difficult then previously thought."
"Perhaps they will do it for us instead."
The woman nodded," That is what we predict will happen."
"Has Anoril prepared our experiments for the test?"
"I do not know Niko, I will ask," She bowed her head and vanished.
Niko smiled coldly,' Master, it is almost time. You will not suffer any longer.'
