Chapter 2

Mysterious Dreams

Kurama awoke when he landed on the floor. Breathing hard, he sat up, looking around wildly for any real life traces of what he'd been dreaming. The words still echoed in his head, along with a migraine at the base of his neck. Untangling himself from the mess of sheets, he made it to his door, and then to the bathroom at the end of the hall.

The sudden light sent a shock of pain into his head, and he splashed cold water on his face to help the pressure. He went rifling through the medicine cabinet for aspirin. Taking two of the white pills, he followed them with a glass of water, and then looked at his reflection in the mirror.

Eyes ringed with bruise colored flesh were stark in the white light. His long red hair was disheveled, and the black sweat pants he'd been sleeping in both untied and slightly twisted. He straitened and retied them, then filled his glass of water again. Switching off the light, he almost tripped on a sheet outside the door before the temporary night blindness faded. In stooping to gather the sheet he spilled part of his water on the floor.

With a sigh he rubbed an eye and mopped up the water with the sheet. Without further mishap he made it back to his room and sat on his bed, now bare of both sheet and blanket. Setting the water on the bedside table, he rubbed his eyes again and shuffled for the pad of paper he had dropped before falling asleep. After fishing a pen from the mess of bedclothes, he set to writing down everything he could remember from his dream, mostly the information that demon had wanted so badly. His notes went something like this:

Lots of dark, a demon,( probably dragon), being tortured by another demon (vampire bat or generic cross of blood).

Wanted a Prophecy: something about the Dark Tournament, myself, Hiei, Yusuke, Kuwabara and Genkai seeking…something on…On silver bladed knife. Great evil, a dragon and a jem. Elements conspiring, loss of members.

Must look up prophecy.

Kurama dropped his pad and pen, then got dressed and went to go awaken everyone else.

"Ok, wait a minute. Were supposed to be fighting what?" Yusuke watched Kurama with disbelief. The Rekai Tantai and Genkai were gathered at Yusuke's house. Kurama had just finished telling them everything about his dream that he could remember. Hiei and Genkai had taken it in stride, Yusuke was a bit worked up, and Kuwabara was anxious about Kurama's lack of information.

"I'm not entirely sure. I've been having these dreams for awhile an-" Kurama was cut off by Yusuke.

"Ok, now you're really going to need a good explanation! Why haven't we heard anything about these dreams?!" Yusuke stood and slammed his fist on the table.

"Idiot, shut up. Kurama, this is disturbing news. Why wouldn't you tell us any of this?" Genkai sipped her tea and glared at Kurama, who withered slightly.

"I was about to say, I've only had bits and pieces, and nothing about any kind of prophecy. Mostly there has just been a lot of darkness and pain. Never anything so clear, especially so closely related to us." Kurama paused and closed his eyes for a minute. "I believe one of the first lines in this prophecy said 'Two humans, a Kitsune, a demon of fire, and aging physic, all will conspire.' Some is blurry, but it talked about winning the Dark Tournament as well."

"The connotations toward all of us directly are very disturbing. There have been very few genuine seers in both this world and the Makai. I can't think of any of them who were ever this specific, and for the most part they were so vague that no one could figure out what they were talking about until after it had already happened." Genkai looked at everyone. "We had best ask Koenma to look through the record of seers and find an actually copy of this prophecy. That way, we can compare it to that which has happed and figure out what is going to happen. Kurama," she turned to said kitsune. "I want you to write down every bit of the prophecy you can remember, and Yusuke will take it to Koenma." Kurama got busy writing when Yusuke spoke up.

"Hold on! Why do I have to take this to pacifier breath? I think that you should take it grandma, obviously you know what you're talking about more than we do." He slammed his fist on the table again.

"Why don't all of us just head up there? Koenma is going to want to question Kurama, and all of us should be there to here any information they discover." Kuwabara stood up as well, and watched for reaction to his proposal.

"That's a very good idea Kuwabara." Kurama said, also standing. He folded his notes and tucked them into his pocket.

"Yes. Dimwit, you could learn something from him." Genkai also stood.

"Shut up grandma." Yusuke started to make his way to the door. Kuwabara and Genkai followed, but Kurama hung back for a moment.

"Come on Hiei. Whether you like it or not, this directly concerns you as well." Green eyes fastened on the indifferent fire demon leaning against a far wall. Said demon opened his eyes and glared.

"Alright, I'm coming." Hiei shrugged from his place on the wall, sauntered by Kurama and out the door. Kurama chuckled inaudibly and shut the door behind him.
