Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ The Key to My Heart ❯ Beginnings of Randomness ( Chapter 1 )
<b>Okay, some explanations are in order. Me and my best friend started talking on AIM one day and we decided to turn it into a story. The Yu Yu characters will be a little out of character at first, but it gets better later!! Oh, and my friend did most of the work, because she usually controls most of the characters because I suck at keeping them in character. So technically this is her story. In the story, Keri is Hiei's height.
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu Yu Hackusho, Rouroni Kenshin, or my best friend Tory!!

A girl is standing in a park, tapping her foot impatiently, waiting for her friend, with Kurama and Hiei standing nearby. She had brown hair and eyes and stood about 5 feet 4 inches tall. "Sorry Tory!" Another girl hollered, running up. "I lost track of time." Keri had dirty brown hair and dark blue eyes and stood about 4 feet 11 inches tall.
"You always lose track of time Keri," Tory said, but smiled to show she wasn't angry. "Did you bring the paper?"
"Paper?" Keri said, cocking her head.
"Yeah, the paper that has the times for the fair next week."
"Oh yeah! Sorry, I'm a little dense today," Keri said sheepishly, pulling a piece of paper out of my pocket and handing it to her.
Tory giggled. "Today?"
"Hey!" Keri stuck her tongue out at her. "You can be too!"
Kurama glances in mild surprise at Tory then smiles. "Hiei, I believe you've found yourself some competition."
Hiei glanced at Kurama. "Hn."
Tory nervously smiles and whispers under her breath. "As long as he doesn't challenge me to a sword fight."
"I heard you baka onna." Tory laughs nervously and backs up.
"I'll tie him up while you run," Keri offered.
"Tay!" Tory runs off. Keri meanwhile has Hiei tied up and is threatening him with his own sword.
"Don't you try to kill my best friend, got that!?" Keri said.
"You will be joining her when I get free," Hiei said darkly. Keri gulps and runs off after Tory, dropping the sword.
Meanwhile, Tory ran to a nearby cliff and grabs a hang-glider from an unsuspecting victim and jumps off the cliff, squealing with glee. When she gets over Hiei, she drops from the low-flying vehicle. Thinking to herself, `This is my chance' she lands a peck on his cheek and takes off after Keri, who spots her coming. Looking over Tory's shoulder, Keri pales.
"We'd better keep running!" Tory and Keri take off and end up running in a complete circle with Hiei right behind us. Tory spots Kurama and jumps on him, knocking him to the ground.
"Save me!!" She cried. Keri stares at them the grabs Tory and tries to pry her off.
"Get off Kurama!! He's mine!!"
"I think not!" Tory hugs him tighter as Hiei watches on in confusion and Kurama goes pale.
"Yes!!!" Keri pulls harder on Tory.
"NO!!!!" Tory shouts, hugging Kurama in a death grip. Kurama `dies' from suffocation.
"YOU KILLED HIM!!!!" Keri bawls her eyes out. Tory gets up.
"Fine, I take Hiei." Keri continues to cry as Hiei takes off. "Hey KJ," Tory says, nudging the other girl's shoulder. When she looks up, Tory smirks mischievously. "Maybe mouth to mouth would work."
Keri smirks. "Okay, I'll try it." She leans over Kurama, who's eyes pop open and go wide.
"I'm fine Keri, really I am," he hastily assures her. Keri pouts then hugs him possessively.
"He's mine, you hear that? MINE!!" Keri says.
Tory pulls a frying pan out of no where and starts beating Keri over the head with it. "Die! Die! Die!" she chanted.
Keri whimpers. "Look, Hiei's *ouch* back. And give me my pan back you loon!"
Tory smirks and gives the pan back and pulls out a mallet as Keri gulps. "Don't care, I want Kurama." She starts hitting Keri with the mallet.
"No, he's mine!" Keri starts hitting Tory with the pan.
"Hiei, a little help here," Kurama pleads. Hiei just smirks and makes no move to help him.
Tory stops beating Keri and in a moment of serenity, she whispers, "Now that's just mean of Hiei, don't you think KJ? I say we go get him." She turns to Kurama. "We'll be right back."
"Kill Hiei!" Keri cried, holding the pan aloft.
"No, not kill KJ. That's inhuman! Kiss him; that the torture of a demon of his…uh…temperament. You with me?"
Keri stares at her then grins. "You're so evil…..I like it!!! Kiss Hiei!!!" Hiei goes completely bug-eyed then runs, but is no match for his pursuers. Kurama sweatdrops as they run off.
-------------A while later-------------
Tory was sitting on top of Kurama and hugging Hiei. "You know KJ, we can come to a compromise with Kurama. I'll take Youko and you take Shuuichi and Hiei."
"But I wanted Youko," Keri pouted. "Hey I know, how about I get him on even-numbered days and you get him on odd?"
"Deal, the person without Kurama can have Hiei for a day."
Keri shakes hands with Tory. "Deal. That means he's mine today. Hand him over!"
Tory holds out a really really long piece of paper. "Let's make it legal. Sign here, and here, oops, here too." An hour later she rolls it up. "There, that should do it." She grabs a cringing Hiei.
Keri grabs a confused Kurama. "Good."
"By the way KJ, it's only fair I tell you that in any given yeah I get him more then you. There are more odd days then even days." Before Keri can grab the contract, Tory poofs it to an unknown location.
"So? As long as I have him today. He's going to be my muse." Keri smiles at Kurama who looks scared.
Tory giggles. "Well, we'll see what happens tomorrow."
Keri pouts. "I'll just make Hiei be my muse then. Come on Kurama." Keri grabs his arm and starts dragging him away.
"Did I just get bought?" Kurama asked confused.
"Yes siree," Tory calls to him from a ways away. Kurama sighs and gets pulled into Keri's secret writing place.
"After tomorrow he'll be all mine!" Tory says, her evil cackle reaching Keri even in her ever so secret writing place.
"What is she thinking?" Keri wondered. "Kurama, go find out."
"You want me to willingly go where the crazy woman is?"
"Yes, or else I'll…I'll…cut off you hair!" Kurama stands in his spot, petrified to go and petrified to stay with the equally crazy woman trying to boss him around, with laughter still heard in the back ground. He finally decides to go.
"Fine!" Kurama stalks off angrily towards Tory.
"Good." Keri starts cleaning her favorite gun while humming a catchy tune.
"Keri want to know what you're planning," Kurama said once he had gotten to Tory.
Tory glances innocently up at his stern features. "Planning? I'm not planning anything." She walks to his side and lays her hand on his arm. With a blink of her eyes they disappear in a poof of smoke.
Keri is still humming and cleaning her gun, completely oblivious to anything going on around her.
With another poof of smoke, Tory and Kurama re-appear in Keri's secret writing place, location disclosed compliments of Kurama. She shoves her left hand into Keri's face and wiggles her fingers, showing off her diamond ring. "We got married!! Nah nah nah nah nah. Bet you never even thought of that. Now he's legally mine." She hug Kurama possessively. "By the way, there's not a thing you can do about it. As I said in the contract," the contract appears in her hand. "Ahem, if one of the afore mentioned friends weds one of the afore mentioned hotties," Tory blushes and Kurama eyes her. "It is binding and may not be broken by any means, legal or non." The contract disappears again as Tory hugs Kurama. "See? He's all mine." She rubs her cheek against Kurama's chest and purrs.
Keri calmly put the cleaning rag down, lifts the gun and shoots it. "Oh hi Tory, I didn't see you there."
Tory looks down at her arm and back up at Keri. "You…you shot me!"
"Oh, I did? Silly me." Keri puts the gun down. "I'll be right back." Gets up and starts to walk out of the room.
"You shot me!!!" Tory said angrily.
"Yup," Keri responded.
"And you're going to leave me here to die!" Tory faints into Kurama's arm as Keri leaves the room. While Keri is gone, Kurama scoops Tory up and takes her to get healed by Yukina. Once Tory's fully healed, she begin writing furiously while Kurama peeks over her shoulder, his eyes going wide.
"She wouldn't…."
<i>"Dear Koenma-sama"</i> Tory crosses it out. <i>"-chan"</i> she crosses it out again. <i>"Whatever your name is,
Please eliminate my dearest friend KJ. She tried to kill on of you spirit detectives. I jumped in front of him and took the bullet for him. For saving my life, I believe Kurama deserves a raise.
Sincerely, your most loyal subject,
Tory."</i>
In answer to that letter, Tory gets put into protective custody. In response to that, Keri goes to the Makai and soon return with someone. "Tory, meet my new boyfriend, Toguro."
"Why am I here?" Toguro asked.
"Silly, to protect me of course," Keri responded.
"Coward!!!" Tory yelled.
"Yup, that's what I am, a yellow-bellied coward. Oh, by the way, I have two boyfriends now, but I'm not telling you who they are." Keri laughs evilly.
"The only question is, do your boyfriends know there's someone else besides them?" Tory starts writing a letter to Toguro to expose her two-timing best friend, as much as she despises him (Toguro).
"Yes they do. They don't mind."
After talking to Koenma and getting immortality, Tory approaches KJ with Kurama on her arm. "Um, KJ?"
Keri leans her head against Toguro's arm. "You know what Tory, I may not be able to kill you but I can kill that husband of your. And I think Toguro would enjoy getting some exercise." Toguro smirks evilly.
Tory smirks back. "Forgot to tell, you I got the same for Kurama."
"You did?" Kurama asked.
"Yup."
Keri thinks hard. "Hmm......you may not be able to be killed but that doesn't mean you can't be hurt." She steps away from Toguro. "You know what to do hon." Toguro walks forwards towards the terrified couple and grabs Kurama by the collar, taking him away. Keri walks over towards Tory and guides her towards a log. "First things first, your husband will be fine. Toguro merely took him to get some food like I told him."
Tory sighs in relief then picks up a stone and throws it towards a rustle in the trees. Hiei falls out of one of them, unconscious. "I can't stand eavesdroppers."
"Not to self, never eavesdrop on Tory," Keri mumbles.
"Now where were? Oh yes. HOW THE HECK DID YOU GET HOOKED UP WITH SUCH AN UGLY GUY AS TOGURO AND JUST WHO IS THE STUPID OTHER BOYFRIEND AND…." She calmly folds her hands and continues in a sweeter manner. "would I approve?"
Keri giggles at her friends sudden mood swings. "I think you would. And Toguro is such a sweet heart under that I-want-to-kill-everyone exterior."
"So who's the second guy?" Tory stares at Keri expectantly. Keri smiles and contemplates whether or not to tell her. "Is it Jin or Touya?" Keri sighs as Tory begs her to tell in every manner possible.
"Jin," Keri murmurs dreamily. Tory giggles.
"I knew it!! Mr. Irish ears!! Be careful or else he'll poke your eye out!"
Keri giggles then glances over to the side. "Oh look, here come your husband." Jumping up, Tory runs over and kisses him. Meanwhile, Hiei has awoken and is now sneaking around behind Kurama to strangle Tory. Spotting him, Keri turns to Toguro. "Can you do me a favor and get Hiei out of here?"
"It would be my pleasure." Toguro grabbed Hiei by the back to his shirt and hauls him away.
"How do you think Toguro will feel about you now?" Tory asked with a small giggle. "Once you tell him about going with Jin."
"I don't know," Keri said.
"I don't think he'll be very happy. You may have to pay him."
Keri laughs nervously. "I forgot about that. But I don't have any money!"
"Poor you. Literally!!" Tory says, doubling over laughing.
"Oh, ha ha." Keri says.
"Don't you think we should help her?" Kurama asked.
"Pwease??" Keri begs with the puppy dog eyes.
Tory looks thoughtful. "Oh, by the way, with four siblings and eight cousins I'm immune to the puppy dog eyes. Try again."
"I'll bring you another bag of Reece's."
"Nope, you already owe me one of them."
"Let me think, it's hard for me ya know."
"Agreed," Tory said.
Kurama blinks in surprise. "You're taking after your husband," Keri commented.
"Don't care." Tory stands on tiptoes and kisses him.
"What did I let her talk me into?" Kurama asked himself. Tory glares at him and turns to Keri after pushing him over the log.
"Now now Tory, if you don't want him I'll be glad to take him off your hands."
"No, I want him. By the way, where's Jin?" Keri looks around.
"I don't know. He was supposed to meet me here."
"He dumped you it would appear," Tory said. Keri sniffs then starts bawling. Peeking his head over the edge of the log, Kurama scolded her.
"Tory!"
Tory jumps and rushes to comfort her. Patting her on the back, she said, "Now now KJ, I'm sure someone wants to be your boyfriend. Here…" Sanosuke suddenly appears.
Keri's eyes light up. "Sano!!" She jumps up and throws her arms around his neck.
Kurama winces. "Poor guy." Tory bops him on the head.
"So I guess he's just as good as Jin then? So fickle," Tory says.
Keri glares at her. "Jin didn't show and therefore is not good. Sano did show, so therefore he is good."
"And who made Sano show up?" Tory asked, puffing her chest proudly.
Keri let go of Sano and gave Tory a hug. "Thank you!" Keri let go of Tory and went back to Sano.
"Wanna go swimming Keri?" Tory said.
"Sure! We have to get swimsuits for the boys first," Keri says. "Let's go the mall."
Both guys shout "NOOOOO!!!" Keri and Tory glares at them.
"Come on Sano, we're going to the mall whether you like it or not," Keri said, grabbing Sano's arm and starts dragging him to the mall. Kurama starts slinking off and Tory grabs his arm.
"Oh no you don't! Hey KJ wait up!" Running after Keri, Tory dragged Kurama along. When they get into the mall, the boys were shoved into the swimsuit store.
"Pick a bathing suit and go try it on," Keri said. The boys both grab the first thing that comes to hand and head off towards the dressing room, conspiring on the way.
"If they weren't girls, I swear…" Sano complained.
"Right about now I don't care what gender they are," Kurama said.
"Any ideas?"
"Tie them up with vines then…"
"Vines?" Sano cut him off. "Dude, where are you going to get vines in the middle of a mall?" Kurama didn't have an answer for that.
"I think they're planning something," Keri whispered to Tory.
"Me too."
"What should we do?" Keri asked.
"If they weren't changing, I'd go tackle them." Tory replied.
"Hey, how did you do that teleport thing anyway?" Keri asked after a bit of silence.
"I don't know, why? You going to teleport there or something," Tory said with a grin.
"No way!! Just tell me and you'll find out."
"I told you, I can't tell you anything because I don't know. It's just something I can personally do. It's like a power. You could tell me what to do and I could do it for you," Tory offered.
"I wanted to bring Jin here so I could punish him for dumping me."
"Okay," Tory said, giggling. She concentrated and then Jin came falling down from overhead.
"Oh Jin," Keri said with an evil glint in her eyes, pulling out the ever-present frying pan. "Come here Jin, I have something for you." Tory snickers as Keri rapidly hits Jin over the head with the frying pan. "Wanna lend a hand Tory?" Keri asked.
"No, I thought we were going to figure out what the boys were doing?" Tory said, laying a hand on Jin's head, making him disappear.
"Spoilsport," Keri said, crossing her arms and pouting. "I don't suppose you're telepathic too?"
"It's your lucky day!" Tory said with a smile.
"You are?!"
"Yup!"
"Read their minds! Read their minds!" Keri chanted.
"Oh dear, this isn't good KJ. They sound like they're whispering. I have an idea. Knock on the door and if no one answers yank it open." Keri stared at Tory like this, O_O
"Are you sure?"
"Positive, trust your best friend."
"Umm….okay." Keri walks over and knocked on one of the doors. When there was no answer, Keri yanked it open, only to stare inside. Slowly closing the door, Keri turned and walked over to Tory who was coming back from where Kurama was changing.
"Kurama was in there, fully clothed. You?" Tory asked.
"Sano was in there….wearing a polka-dotted bathing suit!!!" Looking at each other the two girls burst out laughing.
"Kurama had one of those large flower Hawaiian ones on. Go figure."
Keri giggled. "Flowers, why am I not surprised."
"Yeah, I doubt I could get him to get another one."
"Speaking of which, I'm going to try and talk some sense into Sano. Be right back." Keri walked back over to Sano's changing room and talked with him. When she came back, she was smiling in relief. "He said he'd look for another."
"Good, I think Kurama's settled for that one," Tory said, pointing to the Hawaiian one Kurama had draped over his arm as he approached.
"Did you find out what they were planning?" Keri asked.
"Something about vines."
"I hope it's nothing too painful." Keri said with a sigh.
"Hey, Kurama could his Rose Whip for one of those swinging ropes!" Tory said.
"Think carefully about what you just said," Keri instructed. "Rose Whip?"
"Never mind, that would be painful," Tory said.
"Just a little." Keri glanced over to where Sano still hadn't come out of yet. "Yo Sano, you finished yet?"
"I'm coming, hold your horses." Sano called back.
"That looks better. Let's see, it's completely black with something written on it. Hold on a sec, Sano why are you getting a suit that says `bad' on it?"
"Long story," Sano said.
"Okay….If everyone's ready let's get going. The pool awaits."
"Wait KJ, do you want to go to the pool or the lake at the park?"
"Oh, the lake the lake!" Keri said excitedly. "Come on let's go!" Keri grabs Sano's arm and they walk out of the store into the mall hallway with Tory and Kurama following. "Hey, do you hear that?"
"Hear what?" Tory asked.
"The siren that sounds like it's dying. It keep starting and stopping. Oh, now there's a fire truck!" Keri said.
"Fire? Where?!" Tory said, her eyes going wide.
"There's no fire, I just heard the truck," Keri tried to calm her down.
"Where there's a truck, there's a fire!" Tory exclaimed. "You don't suppose Hiei would have…"
"Oh dear," Kurama said. Sano looked back and forth between the rest, looking confused.
"Hiei has a tendency to burn things down when he gets mad. Let me go and see if I can see anything." Keri ran off, returning a while later. "I couldn't see anything, or anyone for that matter. This whole level is empty. And the sirens keep getting closer. Can you hear them now?"
"Yeah, and we're on the second floor, so if the first is burning, we wouldn't notice for a while," Tory said, turning to Kurama and getting pulled into a hug. The moment was ruined when the sprinklers go off overhead. Keri grabs onto Sano as smoke comes up from the vents in the floor.
"I think it would be in our best interests to leave," Kurama said, pulling Tory along to the stairs they had come up. "They're blocked," Kurama said, looking at the fire licking at the bottom of the stairs. They turn and make for the other exit, only to find that it also is blocked.
"We're all gonna die!" Keri yelled, burying her face into Sano's shirt.
"No no, stay calm. Let's make our way to the roof," Kurama said calmly.
"Roof!! But I'm afraid of heights!" Keri said.
"Suck it up KJ!!" Tory said as Keri starts crying. Tory followed her knight in shining armor to safety, followed by the far less glamorous procession of Sane practically carrying Keri up to the roof. Once Keri looks about the roof she whimpers and hides her face in Sano's shirt.
"Too high," she whimpers.
"Just don't get a case of vertigo and puke or anything," Tory says. Looking over at her, Keri's face turns green and she covers her mouth.
"You just had to mention that Tory," Sano said as Keri puked on Tory's shoes. Tory closes her eyes and kicks off her shoe as she tries not to puke as well.
"Smooth move, KJ," Tory mutters.
"It's your fault," Keri mumbles as she hides her face in Sano's shirt once again.
Tory thinks, `I will not get sick in front of Kurama. I will not get sick in front of Sano. I will not get sick in front of, but maybe on, KJ,' as she clings to Kurama, struggling to retain her fragile control over her last meal. Keri's stomach settled down as Tory suddenly darted to the edge of the roof. Leaning over it, she hurled. "Poor pedestrians."
Keri glances over and pales. "Get away from the edge you lunatic!!" Tory turns quickly to answer her and falls off the edge, ending up just clinging to it.
"Help!" She calls as Keri faints. Running over, Kurama pulls Tory up and she stumbled into his arms and tried to even her breathing. Sano draped Keri over his back.
"Um, guys," Sano said; pointing behind them to where a figure was seen shrouded in shadows. The figure walks out into the sunlight and it's…….a security guard. Tory calmed down, waltzed over to the edge of the building, and calmly jumped off. Sano placed Keri on the ground and rushed over with Kurama to see how big of a splat she made. When they got there, they gasped in surprise.
Keri stirred, then got up and looked around. "Where's Tory?" She asked, worried.
"Down here!" Tory called from her position on a fire escape she had seen when she was making a mess on the heads of the unsuspecting pedestrians.
"What is she doing Sano?" Keri asked from her spot huddled in the middle of the roof.
"Sano, you go down first. And you too Mr. Security Officer. See if anyone is left inside."
"But…" Keri protested. Tory ignores her and turns to Kurama.
"Okay Kurama, what do you have in the way of sedatives?"
"I have five different kinds with me. Which do you want?" Kurama answered.
"Lease side effects, works fast, and wears off soon," Tory said.
"Got it. What do you want me to do with it?" Kurama asked.
"Give it to KJ. Then you can carry her down"
"What? No!" Keri protested.
"The bottom of the fire escape is see-through. Sano's already down there and the only other way to get you down is to walk," Tory said.
"Give me that thing Kurama," Keri said, holding her hand out for the potion. Kurama smiled and gave it to her. Soon after she falls asleep and Kurama picked her up and headed down the fire escape with Tory following. When they reach the bottom, Sano takes Keri from Kurama and we all head home to our respective homes for a good night's sleep.
