Dreaming of You…

I wanted to try something new!! Here is a songfic that I did. It is my first.

I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho or this song. It is by Three Doors Down. The name is Here Without You.

BTW please ignore the "girl" part and change it to "love" or some other benign term. Or just think of Kurama as "girl." Work with me here, people!!

A hundred days have made me older…

Since the last time that I saw your pretty face

Hiei is running through a forest in the Makai. He is looking for a group of demons that are after his precious Kurama. He's not about to let some stinking youkai take his true love from him. But Hiei is starting to feel the time more than he ever has.

It has been month since he last saw his lover's smiling face.

A thousand lies have made me colder…

And I don't think I can look at this the same

The lovers had met up with a demon who was friends with Kurama on a trip to the Makai about six weeks ago. Said demon had then tried to kill him. It was a very stupid thing to do, considering Kurama is under Hiei's protection and everyone knows it. The demon had met a very painful end. No one messes with his fox and gets away with it.

That had marked the fourth attempt on his fox's life from a "friend." Hiei was now more careful than ever concerning letting people near his fox. If something happened to Kurama, Hiei would lose his soul. No one that wanted to take Kurama from him was going to get any mercy.

But all the miles that separate…

Disappear now when I'm dreaming of your face

Hiei settles down for another lonely night in a high tree. He closes his eyes and a picture of his beautiful lover appears before his eyes. He thinks about his fox. A single tear gem falls. He opens his eyes and angrily brushes away another tear before it can form a gem. He hates being away from Kurama for this long. He can't wait to get back home.

I'm here without you, baby…

But you're still on my lonely mind

I think about you, baby…

And I dream about you all the time

I'm here without you, baby…

But you're still with me in my dreams

And tonight…

It's only you and me…yeah…

Hiei closes his eyes reluctantly, not wanting to face another night alone. His breathing slowly deepens and he falls off to sleep. He dreams of his fox.

He relives the first time they made love. He can feel, taste and touch him while sleeping. He smiles in his sleep and whispers the kitsune's name. He shifts as if to cuddle closer to his love, but encounters only the cold bark of a tree. He awakens to find it was only a dream. Upset, he sighs and sets off, deciding he just can't take being away from his lover a moment longer than need-be.

The miles just keep rolling…

As the people leave their way to say hello

While Hiei runs away the miles to the threat against his life, Kurama lives as normally as he can without his lover. He does everything he can think of to try and keep his mind off of his dark demon, but it is to now avail.

He wakes up one morning after dreaming of their first night as lovers. He awakens and reaches out for his fire demon's warm form, but feels nothing but his cool satin sheets. He wrenches his eyes open and frowns as he remembers Hiei is far away from him. He quickly gets up and showers, seeing Hiei everywhere he looks.

He decides to go out for breakfast; everything in his own home makes him think of Hiei. He sees members of his "fan club" run across the busy streets just to say "Hi" to him. He sighs and thinks of how Hiei would snort in disgust whenever that happened and say "stupid ningens." Then he stops and laughs sadly. He can't get his mind off of his little flame.

I've heard this life is overrated…

But I hope that it gets better as we go…oh yeah…

After a short breakfast, he thought of a time he had taken Hiei there, he decides to go to the park. He sits at "their" bench under "his" tree and thinks about his demon.

He had heard that love sucked, and all he could hope was that, in the future, they would be together more often.

I'm here without you, baby…

But you're still on my lonely mind

I think about you baby…

And I dream about you all the time

I'm here without you baby…

But you're still with me in my dreams

And tonight, girl…

It's only you and me…

Meanwhile, in the Makai, Hiei has found the demons' hideout. He preps himself, taking out his katana and thinking of his fox for strength, and goes inside. He looks around, not really liking what he sees. There are over a hundred demons. He senses more sneak out from the forest to block off his exit.

He is completely surrounded.

Hiei doesn't let the odds stop him though. He just braces himself and jumps into the air, slashing down with his katana. He won't let anything harm his Kurama.

Everything I know…

And anywhere I go…

It gets hard, but it won't take away my love…

Hiei fights on, covered in blood from the demons he slaughters left and right, as well as some of his own. He thinks of his lover as he fights. He presses his advantage- he has to kill them all so his lover will be safe. An army of S-class demons couldn't keep him from keeping his lover safe, let alone this group of lowly B and A-class demons.

And when the last one falls …

When it's all said and done…

It gets hard, but it won't take away my love…whoa…

Finally, after countless hours of fighting, every last one of the demons chasing after Kurama is dead. Their corpses cover the ground in a sea of cut up body parts, spilled guts, and oozing blood. In the middle of that sea of carnage stands a small, exhausted figure.

Hiei, covered in cuts and slashes, leans upon his katana. He is panting, shaky from blood loss. He smiles as he catches his breath- his fox is safe.

He shakes his head and collects himself, before sheathing his katana. He walks out of the bloody building and gets his bearings. He heads towards the nearest portal to his lover. The threat is gone and he can finally return. He will be happy to be in his lover's arms tonight.

I'm here without you, baby…

But you're still on my lonely mind

I think about you, baby…

And I dream about you all the time

I'm here without you, baby…

But you're still with me in my dreams

And tonight, girl…

It's only you and me…yeah…oh yeah…

In the Ningenkai, Kurama sits in his satin-covered bed, looking at a picture of him and his lover taken shortly before Hiei left to eliminate the threat to his life. A tear falls down his face; Kurama misses Hiei so much.

He sighs and gathers his pajamas before heading to the bathroom for a shower. He wishes Hiei were here to enjoy the spray of warm water with him. Kurama is so lonely, and feels so empty. His heart is far away, with his demon lover. He leans against the cool wall of the shower. He feels like he can't bear another night alone. He sighs and brushes away another tear. He turns off the water and steps out. He dries himself and gets dressed.

Oh…I'm alone…

He grabs fresh towel and rubs his hair dry as he walks towards his room. When he walks into the room he removes the towel and shakes his head. He sighs and keeps his eyes closed, head lowered. He can't bear to see his empty room. He raises his head and opens his eyes- then cries out.

"Hiei!"

His demon lover, although battered and looking exhausted, has returned at last.
