Chapter two; Troubled Dreams.
" Try it " Kyna challenged as the 4 ran towards her at full speed, Kyna only smirked under the mask she wore.
Hiei was the first to attack with his katana, Kyna brought up her own, both swords clashed against each other, sending small sparks all around them.
Hiei seemed to get distracted by less than a second, and in that small time, Kyna was able to kick him in the stomach, sending him into a tree, she moved out of the way before Kuwabara could hit her with his Rei-ken.
When Kyna landed, she was attacked from the side by Kurama's whip, she moved away, but the whip hit her in the side, she landed a few feet away from the fox, holding her bleeding side.
Yusuke took his Rei-gun stance and as the Rei-gun began to charge, Kyna felt his reiki rising rapidly, she turned towards the detective, an electric blue whip materialized from 2 of her claws, with a quick movement, the whip warped around Yusuke's wrist, Kyna moved her hand and Yusuke was thrown on top of Kuwabara, who had been running towards her.
" Yusuke!! " Kurama shouted as he slashed with his own whip, but Kyna predicted this movement and slashed Kurama's whip in two with her own before the whip could touch her.
- She's strong - Hiei commented.
- Yes, she is, but she hasn't used any of her other abilities against us, I wonder why - Kurama wondered.
Kyna stood in her place, her eyes focused on the 4 in front of her, Yusuke and Kuwabara were standing up. - Kyna! Come back now! Boss needs to speak with the 4 of us! - Someone said in Kyna's mind.
- Boss? Why? - Kyna asked back.
- He won't tell us until you come back! hayaku! - Said the male demon.
- Fine - Kyna said, a bit annoyed, after the mental link broke off, she turned towards the group again " I would have loved to stay and play longer, but sadly, I need to leave, Sayonara " She said before she faded.

When she entered, her bottomless blue orbs landed in 3 well known figures, the first was a man with long silver colored hair, silver tail and silver fox ears atop his head, his amethyst colored eyes had slit silver pupils, they were cold and unreadable.
The second was a young looking female, she had short light violet colored hair and deep blue eyes that were alight with mischief and happiness, her silver fox ears moved from time to time and her fox tail was wrapped around her tiny waist.
The last one was another male, younger looking than the first but older then the second, he had white hair with blue at the ends of it and the bangs in his forehead, his eyes were icy blue in color, his pupils were also slit. He had the same kind of ears and tail Kyna had.
" Imoto " The third acknowledged when she entered, Kyna turned towards him and smiled.
" Aniki " She said, walking towards him and kissing his cheek affectionately, then she turned towards the other two " Hello, Platina, Kiara " She said, bowing her head a bit.
" Hello, Kyna " Platina said, a ghost of a smile in his lips.
" Hello, Kyna-sama " Kiara said with a bow.
" There is blood in your side, Kyna " Her boss spoke as he turned in his chair, he had short black hair and dark purple eyes.
" Is nothing to worry about " Kyna said in a clipped tone.
" Whatever, " Her boss said with a wave of his hand. " I have found a new guardian for the Gem of Dreams, it's a youkai girl that can control barriers, she will keep the portal open so the Mountain foxes can go in and out as they wish, please enter, Kishiri "
The door opened again, revealing a light blue haired youkai girl with garnet colored eyes, she was holding the Gem of dreams in her glowing hands. She looked young, she could not be more than 12 years old in youkai age.
" Guys, this is Kishiri, I have appointed you 4 to watch over her, I am in charge of the kitsunes, and the easiest way to keep them safe and happy is by protecting Kishiri from Kanne, you must move to a safe location, where the four of you can keep watch over her easily without invading her personal space, that why I have asked Genkai to let you stay in her temple, is that understood? " He asked.
" Genkai's temple? " Platina asked.
" Yes, it is protected, and Kyna as well as Kiba know her pretty well, isn't that right? " Both inu siblings nodded without a word.

On the way to Genkai's temple the next morning, Kyna noticed how tense Kishiri's shoulders were, she smiled as she placed her hand gently in her shoulder. " Relax, Kishiri-chan, they are good people, and you'll like Yukina a lot, she's shy and sweet and kind, besides, we'll be with you most of the time, so there is no need to worry, okay? "

They finally made it to Genkai's temple, the old woman was waiting for them at the entrance, she smiled when she saw Kiba and Kyna again.

The fox smiled nervously, knowing very well that getting in the inu's bad side was not a very pretty thing.

Outside, Kyna, Kiara, Platina and Kiba were talking; their faces were serious but calm.
" Kiara, " Kyna began, her voice soft but strong. " You stay near the temple, in case a youkai were to pass through any of us, you will place a barrier around it, is that okay? "

" Good, Platina, " Kyna said, turning to the silver haired fox. " You'll take the south side, if anything happens; you'll be the one to aid Kiara first. "

The other three nodded, Kyna smiled and gave thumbs up, the others answered and after that, they jumped in different directions, fading in mid air.

Serval days passed uneventful, and while more time passed, everyone seemed to relax, all but Kyna, who, instead of relaxing, grew more tense each passing day, her instincts screaming that something was definitely wrong.
By day, she seemed to be normal, but at night, she became restless, patrolling the entire land around the temple each night over and over again.
Platina, Kiba and Kiara noticed her restless youki each night, moving swiftly through the land, trying to find something that none of their senses could perceive.
The Reikai Tantei had visited Genkai and Yukina serval times since they were in the forest, they were unable to feel the Gem Of Dreams, therefore, they were not a threat to Kishiri, besides, Kia was with her at all times.
But even if she reassured herself over and over again that everything was okay and she was only paranoid, the feeling that something wrong was going on wouldn't go away, it stayed with her day after day.
But it was not until 3 weeks after they arrived, when the first snow began to fall, that Kyna's instincts proved themselves correct.

Kyna and a shadowed figure ran side by side in their true forms, trying to escape from a horde of hunters after their mission had gone completely wrong.
- I wonder if he's all right- Kyna said to her companion telepathically.
- He must be, that bastard doesn't know when to drop dead. - Her companion answered, but she could tell he was also worried.
They had been separated inside the castle, after stealing the golden colored key that hung around Kyna's neck, the guards had heard them somehow, and they had been cornered in the throne room, she and one of her companions had jumped through the window, but her other companion had escaped through another door, unnoticed by the guards.
- We need to get to the forest, Kyna- her companion said as his eyes traced the place they were in, there was not a forest in sight.

Unnoticed by both demons, a hunter hid behind a sand dune, a strange weapon in his hands, he aimed at her companion and grinned wickedly.
Kyna and her companion continued to run, Kyna, because of her higher speed, was in the lead, her eyes found a forest in the distance.
- A forest!! There Is a forest K...-
*BANG*
Kyna's eyes widened as she stopped to a halt and turned around, her eyes landed on the fatally injured now humanoid form of her friend, her eyes filled with tears as shocked despair and pain flooded the once emotionless blue orbs. - NO! - She shouted in her mind and her companion's, who raised his head as he heard her running footsteps.
" Fool " He said weakly as Kyna placed him carefully on her back, it's once white fur turning a deep red with blood. " Go and leave me here "
- I won't - Kyna said stubbornly as she raised again and turned to run towards the forest - If you stay here, defenseless, god knows what they'll do to you. - Kyna said angrily, the tears streaming down her face went unnoticed by her friend in her back.
When the forest was a few yards away from them, she heard someone shouting " Shot the dog down!! Fire the arrows!! "
Short after, Kyna heard the whistling of arrows, she was able to evade all of them. " Damnit! Bring that damn dog down! "
- Fools! - Kyna sheeted in sorrowful fury. - I will kill them!! -
She felt rather than heard another arrow before it pierced the skin of her shoulder, she cried out in pain as she fell to the ground when that leg gave away, she turned her face towards that shoulder and her eyes landed on the silver wooden black feathered arrow, it was shinning softly with a berry colored aura. - God damnit! - She said as she turned back, her eyes landed on a red robed demon, who was smirking evilly at her. - Bastard - She thought hatefully, but the murder thoughts flew away when she saw some guards approaching them, she stood up once again, her shoulder bleeding even more with the action, she raised a frigid gust of wind and sent it towards the guards, freezing them on the spot, some others saw this and began running towards them, but they were to far away to catch them, Kyna moved her now completely golden eyes towards the red clad demon, his deep purple ones widened in shocked fear when they locked with hers, then she turned away and ran towards the forest.
When Kyna reached a hidden clearing and erected a barrier it was raining hard, she placed her friend on the soft grass carefully and turned back to her humanoid form, she yanked the arrow from her shoulder, leaving a rhombus shaped injury in it's place, then she turned her eyes towards her companion, who was breathing heavily.
" You are...A stubborn one...Koinu " He said between breaths as he opened his eyes, they landed in her blood soaked shoulder. " You got hurt " He said calmly, his eyes not moving from the injured shoulder, hating himself because he could not heal her like all those times in the years they had known each other.
" I'll survive " Kyna said.
" I won't " Her friend responded back, moving his eyes towards her own.
" I know " Kyna said as a tear ran down her cheek and hardened into a tear shaped diamond when it hit the ground, her friend stared at the diamond quietly as another joined the first.
" It's the first time in 70 years I have known you that I had seen you cry, " He began as his eyes moved from the now 4 diamonds in the floor to her blue eyes. " Or seen you so sad, I never knew your eyes could look so wise...So old...When they were filled with sorrow "
" Always with your double meaning comments. " Kyna said with a watery laugh.
" Keh, as if I would change only because I am dying " Her friend said with an arrogant snort, which brought more tears to her eyes.
Kyna tried to move her injured arm, but flinched at the spear of pain that shot through her shoulder down her arm to her fingertips.
" Who shot you? " Her friend asked.
" Tai...With an arrow filled with fire youki " Kyna said slightly.
" Bastard... " Her friend said weakly, his remaining energy leaving his body.
"..." Kyna didn't say anything, just closed her eyes as more tears slipped down her wet face.
" You owe me something " Her friend said.
Kyna's eyes opened and locked with her friend's " Owe you? " She asked, confused.
" Hai, we met because you stole one of my things, remember? " Her friend asked.
" Ah... " Kyna whispered.
" You owe me because I never stole it back, because of it, I need to steal something from you, thief honor...you know " Her friend said as a smile spread in his lips.
" And what will you steal? " Kyna asked.
Her friend made a movement with his hand that had Kyna bending over his lying form. " This..." He said as she took her face in his hands and covered her lips with his own.
Just as she expected, the kiss was passionate and there was a kind of urgency as his lips moved on her own, that she understood.
Time seemed to freeze as she closed her eyes softly, her tears mixing with the rain, she knew what his punishment for all the bad things he did would be, his soul would be caged forever in somewhere cold and lonely, somewhere horrible, she knew he was not afraid of his fate, but she was, she was afraid for him.
She could save him, she could set him free and give him a second chance to live, and she was willing to do it, even if she knew that in order to save him, she had to let him go, she had to set him free of his feelings for her and her memories.
Kyna sighed as she moved one of her hands to her chest, her companion's eyes were closed, in consequence, he didn't see the light blue glow that framed her figure, she moved her hand away from her chest slowly, and a small blue and white sphere came out from her chest, she sighed as her companion retreated, his lips leaving her own, his eyes fell in the small sphere of light hovering over Kyna's open palm.
" What..." He began, but Kyna spoke.
" I will give you another chance, Anata. " She began softly " I will give you a piece of my soul, you will be able to go into Ningenkai with it, find a pregnant woman, who's baby's soul is too weak and dying, fuse your own soul with the baby's and you'll live again. " Kyna said softly.
" Then I'll come back to you, to live with you " He said, smiling slightly.

" Until then...Koinu " He said as he died, a small sphere of light came out from his chest, the sphere in her hand went to his soul and they fused together, tainting his silver colored soul with a bit of blue, after that his shot towards the sky, Kyna closed her eyes.
- That won't be possible...- Kyna thought sadly as she stood up, watching his body turn to small sparkling spheres of light that flew away. - Because the small part of my soul that has been fused inside your soul will erase the memories you have of me, and with them, everything you felt towards me, that small part of my soul shall protect you even when we are apart from each other, but I swear, by Kori-inu honor, that I will protect you with my life, even if you forget about me, I swear I will. - Kyna thought.
Kyna closed her eyes as a thousand year old circular insignia appeared under her feet, the insignia glowed with a strong silvery light, the energy it began to create made her hair and clothes levitate, she raised her silver and blue spear, it began to shine like white fire in her hands as she held it in front of her, she closed her eyes as a silver colored mark appeared on her forehead, and began to chant the words that would seal her fate.

" Why don't I show you your room, Kishiri? " Genkai asked, the youkai nodded and the three went to Kishiri's room.

Outside, Kyna, Kiara, Platina and Kiba were talking; their faces were serious but calm.
" Kiara, " Kyna began, her voice soft but strong. " You stay near the temple, in case a youkai were to pass through any of us, you will place a barrier around it, is that okay? "
Kiara gave her thumbs up. " Of course! "
" Good, Platina, " Kyna said, turning to the silver haired fox. " You'll take the south side, if anything happens; you'll be the one to aid Kiara first. "
" Hai " Platina nodded silently.
" Kiba, " Kyna turned to her older brother " You'll take the east side, I'll take the western side, if you sense or see anything strange, contact the others, but only in case of a fight, we will remain in our positions, Len should send word to us soon, until then, we must never be seen by anyone. "
The other three nodded, Kyna smiled and gave thumbs up, the others answered and after that, they jumped in different directions, fading in mid air.

Serval days passed uneventful, and while more time passed, everyone seemed to relax, all but Kyna, who, instead of relaxing, grew more tense each passing day, her instincts screaming that something was definitely wrong.
By day, she seemed to be normal, but at night, she became restless, patrolling the entire land around the temple each night over and over again.
Platina, Kiba and Kiara noticed her restless youki each night, moving swiftly through the land, trying to find something that none of their senses could perceive.
The Reikai Tantei had visited Genkai and Yukina serval times since they were in the forest, they were unable to feel the Gem Of Dreams, therefore, they were not a threat to Kishiri, besides, Kia was with her at all times.
But even if she reassured herself over and over again that everything was okay and she was only paranoid, the feeling that something wrong was going on wouldn't go away, it stayed with her day after day.
But it was not until 3 weeks after they arrived, when the first snow began to fall, that Kyna's instincts proved themselves correct.

Kyna and a shadowed figure ran side by side in their true forms, trying to escape from a horde of hunters after their mission had gone completely wrong.
- I wonder if he's all right- Kyna said to her companion telepathically.
- He must be, that bastard doesn't know when to drop dead. - Her companion answered, but she could tell he was also worried.
They had been separated inside the castle, after stealing the golden colored key that hung around Kyna's neck, the guards had heard them somehow, and they had been cornered in the throne room, she and one of her companions had jumped through the window, but her other companion had escaped through another door, unnoticed by the guards.
- We need to get to the forest, Kyna- her companion said as his eyes traced the place they were in, there was not a forest in sight.
- Yes - Kyna said as both speed up.
Unnoticed by both demons, a hunter hid behind a sand dune, a strange weapon in his hands, he aimed at her companion and grinned wickedly.
Kyna and her companion continued to run, Kyna, because of her higher speed, was in the lead, her eyes found a forest in the distance.
- A forest!! There Is a forest K...-
*BANG*
Kyna's eyes widened as she stopped to a halt and turned around, her eyes landed on the fatally injured now humanoid form of her friend, her eyes filled with tears as shocked despair and pain flooded the once emotionless blue orbs. - NO! - She shouted in her mind and her companion's, who raised his head as he heard her running footsteps.
" Fool " He said weakly as Kyna placed him carefully on her back, it's once white fur turning a deep red with blood. " Go and leave me here "
- I won't - Kyna said stubbornly as she raised again and turned to run towards the forest - If you stay here, defenseless, god knows what they'll do to you. - Kyna said angrily, the tears streaming down her face went unnoticed by her friend in her back.
When the forest was a few yards away from them, she heard someone shouting " Shot the dog down!! Fire the arrows!! "
Short after, Kyna heard the whistling of arrows, she was able to evade all of them. " Damnit! Bring that damn dog down! "
- Fools! - Kyna sheeted in sorrowful fury. - I will kill them!! -
She felt rather than heard another arrow before it pierced the skin of her shoulder, she cried out in pain as she fell to the ground when that leg gave away, she turned her face towards that shoulder and her eyes landed on the silver wooden black feathered arrow, it was shinning softly with a berry colored aura. - God damnit! - She said as she turned back, her eyes landed on a red robed demon, who was smirking evilly at her. - Bastard - She thought hatefully, but the murder thoughts flew away when she saw some guards approaching them, she stood up once again, her shoulder bleeding even more with the action, she raised a frigid gust of wind and sent it towards the guards, freezing them on the spot, some others saw this and began running towards them, but they were to far away to catch them, Kyna moved her now completely golden eyes towards the red clad demon, his deep purple ones widened in shocked fear when they locked with hers, then she turned away and ran towards the forest.
When Kyna reached a hidden clearing and erected a barrier it was raining hard, she placed her friend on the soft grass carefully and turned back to her humanoid form, she yanked the arrow from her shoulder, leaving a rhombus shaped injury in it's place, then she turned her eyes towards her companion, who was breathing heavily.
" You are...A stubborn one...Koinu " He said between breaths as he opened his eyes, they landed in her blood soaked shoulder. " You got hurt " He said calmly, his eyes not moving from the injured shoulder, hating himself because he could not heal her like all those times in the years they had known each other.
" I'll survive " Kyna said.
" I won't " Her friend responded back, moving his eyes towards her own.
" I know " Kyna said as a tear ran down her cheek and hardened into a tear shaped diamond when it hit the ground, her friend stared at the diamond quietly as another joined the first.
" It's the first time in 70 years I have known you that I had seen you cry, " He began as his eyes moved from the now 4 diamonds in the floor to her blue eyes. " Or seen you so sad, I never knew your eyes could look so wise...So old...When they were filled with sorrow "
" Always with your double meaning comments. " Kyna said with a watery laugh.
" Keh, as if I would change only because I am dying " Her friend said with an arrogant snort, which brought more tears to her eyes.
Kyna tried to move her injured arm, but flinched at the spear of pain that shot through her shoulder down her arm to her fingertips.
" Who shot you? " Her friend asked.
" Tai...With an arrow filled with fire youki " Kyna said slightly.
" Bastard... " Her friend said weakly, his remaining energy leaving his body.
"..." Kyna didn't say anything, just closed her eyes as more tears slipped down her wet face.
" You owe me something " Her friend said.
Kyna's eyes opened and locked with her friend's " Owe you? " She asked, confused.
" Hai, we met because you stole one of my things, remember? " Her friend asked.
" Ah... " Kyna whispered.
" You owe me because I never stole it back, because of it, I need to steal something from you, thief honor...you know " Her friend said as a smile spread in his lips.
" And what will you steal? " Kyna asked.
Her friend made a movement with his hand that had Kyna bending over his lying form. " This..." He said as she took her face in his hands and covered her lips with his own.
Just as she expected, the kiss was passionate and there was a kind of urgency as his lips moved on her own, that she understood.
Time seemed to freeze as she closed her eyes softly, her tears mixing with the rain, she knew what his punishment for all the bad things he did would be, his soul would be caged forever in somewhere cold and lonely, somewhere horrible, she knew he was not afraid of his fate, but she was, she was afraid for him.
She could save him, she could set him free and give him a second chance to live, and she was willing to do it, even if she knew that in order to save him, she had to let him go, she had to set him free of his feelings for her and her memories.
Kyna sighed as she moved one of her hands to her chest, her companion's eyes were closed, in consequence, he didn't see the light blue glow that framed her figure, she moved her hand away from her chest slowly, and a small blue and white sphere came out from her chest, she sighed as her companion retreated, his lips leaving her own, his eyes fell in the small sphere of light hovering over Kyna's open palm.
" What..." He began, but Kyna spoke.
" I will give you another chance, Anata. " She began softly " I will give you a piece of my soul, you will be able to go into Ningenkai with it, find a pregnant woman, who's baby's soul is too weak and dying, fuse your own soul with the baby's and you'll live again. " Kyna said softly.
" Then I'll come back to you, to live with you " He said, smiling slightly.
" Hai..." Kyna nodded softly.
" Until then...Koinu " He said as he died, a small sphere of light came out from his chest, the sphere in her hand went to his soul and they fused together, tainting his silver colored soul with a bit of blue, after that his shot towards the sky, Kyna closed her eyes.
- That won't be possible...- Kyna thought sadly as she stood up, watching his body turn to small sparkling spheres of light that flew away. - Because the small part of my soul that has been fused inside your soul will erase the memories you have of me, and with them, everything you felt towards me, that small part of my soul shall protect you even when we are apart from each other, but I swear, by Kori-inu honor, that I will protect you with my life, even if you forget about me, I swear I will. - Kyna thought.
Kyna closed her eyes as a thousand year old circular insignia appeared under her feet, the insignia glowed with a strong silvery light, the energy it began to create made her hair and clothes levitate, she raised her silver and blue spear, it began to shine like white fire in her hands as she held it in front of her, she closed her eyes as a silver colored mark appeared on her forehead, and began to chant the words that would seal her fate.

Dearest? - Said a male voice in her mind, Kyna growled as she jumped down the tree, placing the hood over her head once again, she howled, waking up all the others, Kia, who was with Kishiri turned to his true form, which was the size of a horse, his fangs were larger, Platina, Kiba and Kiara got together in front of the temple's entrance.
The Reikai Tantei saw them, and before they could say something, Platina turned towards them.
" Go back inside, this fight has nothing to do with any of you- " Platina began, but was cut short by a voice that came from the shadows.
" Oh, but it does, you see, it has to do with Kurama... " Said the male voice, everyone turned towards the voice, and a red robbed man appeared out of the blue.
" You...! " Kiba growled.
" Glad to see you again, Kiba...Now, where is your sister? Oh, I remember now, she's playing with my pets " He said sadistically.
" Who are you, and what do you have to do with me? " Kurama asked as he took out a rose from his hair.
" You don't look like yourself, Youko Kurama, you seem...Weaker " The man said, with a wicked smile in his handsome face. " So, you don't remember me, do you? Clever isn't she? Well, I am Tai Kanne, Yamiken's brother; I am here to kill you all!! "
" What did you do with my sister, bastard! " Kiba snarled at Tai.
" She most be somewhere inside this forest, provably dead, if not, I will kill her later, but what I want now is the gem that child holds " Tai said, moving his eyes towards Kishiri, who stepped back, Kia stepped in front of the terrified child.
" Leave her alone, Kanne, you won't place a hand on her " Platina growled as he stepped closer to them.
" Gem? What gem? " Yusuke asked.
" The Gem Of Dreams, the one you are looking for too, that little child, has it, where you ordered to protect her? Just as she was ordered to steal it? " Tai asked.
" What? " Kurama said, shocked.
" Oh, you don't know, do you? " Tai mocked. " Your thief was ordered to steal the gem, just as these 3 were ordered to protect the child. "
" Damn you! " Platina snarled and launched at Tai, a sword appearing in his hands.
Platina's ice sword clashed with Tai's fire sword, Tai sent Platina crashing into a tree quite easily.
" Eat this!! Ijis no Kaze!! " Kiba shouted as he sent a wave of frigid air that didn't do any damage to Tai.
" You are nowhere near your sister's level of power, and you dare attack me with that? " Tai asked as he sent a wave of fire to Kiba, who got out of the way, but his arm had been burned quite badly.
" REI GUN!!! " Yusuke shouted at the same time he fired his spirit gun, which took Tai by surprise, the ball of reiki hit him dead on, burning his clothes and part of his arm.
" Good enough...For a ningen " Tai said as he turned towards Yusuke, Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama.
" Rose Whip!! " Kurama shouted as he tried to slash Tai with his whip, but he caught it with one hand and tore it in 2.
" Fools " Tai laughed. " You can't defeat me "
" They might not " Came a cold voice that sent chills down their spine. " But I sure as hell can "
Tai turned wide eyes towards the shadows, where Kyna's intact figure stood, with her face hidden in shadows, the only thing Tai could see was the glint of gold, and inside it, her thirst for blood...

While Kyna's strength began to fade away with each spell she does, Kurama's own youki seems to increase, unnoticed by everyone.
Kanne makes an important revelation to the group, part of a plan that not only puts them in mortal danger, but that could bring the barriers between the 3 worlds down, fusing them together.
Platina receives word of an old friend of his, who's willing to help them out, and some of Kyna's darkest memories are uncovered by the appearance of another enemy, who gets inside Kyna's mind.
Someone makes a quick visit to Koenma, and leaves with a very confused very shocked prince in it's wake.
