Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Touch the Jeep and Die ❯ Chapter 2 ( Chapter 2 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Again I do not own any Hakusho characters and I am NOT making money off of this. The car salesman is taken from my brother who sells cars, although he is not sleazy or slimy in any way.
Chapter 2
It had taken much convincing but Kurama finally talked his human mother into letting him get a place with Hiei. It had helped that the place they found to live was just a few streets over. She had helped them find furniture cheap for their 2-bedroom apartment and as a house warming gift had bought her son a mini rose bush. She also gave them some pointers on grocery shopping.
Once they were settled in Hiei gave the address to Koenma and took the driving lessons that he needed to. Koenma pulled some strings in the spirit world and got Hiei a driver's license for the human world. When Hiei got back to the privacy of his home in Tokyo he actually jumped for joy. He was actually excited about something other than fighting. He had researched what off-roading was and definitely knew it would be something he would secretly enjoy. No one will find out.
Kurama was just walking in the room and caught Hiei's happy outburst. He went into fits of laughter, which caught the shorter guy's attention. Hiei was both embarrassed and pissed that his cheerfulness had gotten caught. He thought he was alone. He needed to rectify the situation fast.
“Dragon of the Dark….”
Kurama stopped laughing the instant Hiei opened his mouth. In that same instant he had his Rose Whip out and around Hiei's mouth before he could finish summoning the dark flame.
“I'm sorry my friend. I did not mean to upset you. This will stay between us. Looks like you got your license. Shall we go look at vehicles?” As he spoke Kurama slowly called the Rose Whip back to him watching his friend very carefully. Anger still burned deep in his eyes but as the thought of getting a car seeped in his anger dissipated.
Once the Rose Whip was put away again Hiei walked past Kurama grabbing his long red hair and pulling him in the direction of the door. “Lets go.”
Kurama was about to say something but then he looked at Hiei as he let go of his hair and there was a hint of a smile. Kurama decided it was best to let it drop.
They went to the cheapest used car lot in town. There was a big neon sign out front that had the name and the catch phrase of the place:
MOSTLY LEMONS
“If It's Used You'll Find It Here”
Hiei made a beeline right to the motorcycles. He asked Kurama questions about them since he had been in the human world considerably longer than Hiei. They were looking at one of the motorcycles made by Harley Davidson when a salesman walked up. The salesman was like any that can be found on a used car lot. Willing to sell the lemoniest car to whoever was a sucker. That is what he thought about Kurama and Hiei.
“Hi my name is Joe,” he said to Kurama and caught sight of Hiei squatting on the other side of the bike. “Your son has good taste in bikes but I would recommend getting him a tricycle.”
Hiei looked up from the other side of the motorcycle. As he came around towards the side that Kurama and the salesman were standing he raised up to his full height of four foot ten inches. Kurama could tell that his shorter friend was sizing up the salesman and silently mouthing something that could only end up being fatal. He had to act quickly.
“Actually this is my friend Hiei and he is the one here to make a purchase.” Kurama leaned in a little closer to Joe and said very softly, “He is older than he looks. He also does not like jokes about his height.” Kurama remembered the last time their friend Kuwabara had made a short joke at Hiei; it had taken him 3 days to recover. He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Hiei calm down a little.
“Well is there anything in particular that you had in mind?” The car salesman asked still giving Kurama all his attention.
“Something that runs” Hiei said in his normal dry tone.
Joe the salesman turned and looked at Hiei, “By the way you are dressed I would actually recommend a black Ford LTD Sedan. We actually have some cars on the lot that are from movies. Follow me and I will show you.”
Hiei fell into step with Kurama who was following a bit behind the salesman, “He is slimier than Nurakuma of the Stench Bogs of Hell,” he said in a whispered voice.
“True my friend,” Kurama agreed and had to put a hand over his mouth to hold back the laughter.
They followed Joe to a black car that had definitely seen better days. Joe tapped the hood of the car and the trunk popped open. “Oops the catch needs to be fixed. Just needs some minor repairs. This is actually a famous car. It is from the American movie Men In Black. No better deal than this one,” he said with a smile that oozed with his lies.
“Oh the Ford POS,” Hiei said in a sardonic voice. “Just show me what you have along the lines of Jeeps.”
“Fine” Joe said seeming kind of frustrated that they would not buy the car he suggested. “They are over there. Go ahead and peruse through them and I will go get keys for test-driving. I'll be back in a few minutes.” With that he walked off.
Hiei was glad to see him go and thought of ways to painfully kill him. If I did not have honor I would lay waste to that grimy human. He followed Kurama to where the salesman had pointed. As they wandered around looking at the Jeeps Kurama helped Hiei understand some of the terms that were used on the fliers. Hiei kept thinking he was glad that he had learned to drive a manual transmission. From what he had learned about off-roading a manual was better and was easier to control the vehicle.
While Kurama was looking at a newer Jeep, Hiei wandered over to an older maroon Jeep that caught his attention. From what he read on the flier this was exactly what he was looking for. This was a 1987 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. He would NEVER tell Koenma that his recommendation on what kind of vehicle Hiei would like best was right. He would rather die a violent death.
“Kurama, This one.” Kurama came over, read the flier and grinned at Hiei's choice. It was cheaper then he had expected it to be so maybe with what was left he could talk Hiei into getting a nice car stereo.
“Would you like to take it for a drive?” Joe asked as he walked back up to the pair. He started to hand the car keys to Kurama but Hiei snatched them out of his hand.
“Yes I would,” Hiei said making sure that his anger was not visible.
Over all, the test drive went well and they walked into Joe's office to finish filling out the paperwork and complete the sale. After signing everything except the title, Hiei stood to get the cash out to pay for the Jeep. Joe again sized up Hiei and figured one last joke would not hurt. What little he really knew.
“You do know that a booster seat will cost extra. I can sell you one cheap.” Joe beamed at his joke.
Without saying a word Hiei set the cash down on the desk, signed the title and grabbed it and the keys and walked out of the office. Kurama did a quick bow and said “Thank you” before following the fire demon out.
As they were pulling out of the lot, Hiei stopped and looked out the driver's side window at Mostly Lemons car dealership. He quickly summoned the dragon flame and aimed at several cars on the far side of the lot. He watched for a few seconds more as the cars he had aimed at burst into flames and small explosions started. He grinned evilly as he watched Joe come running out of his office carrying a fire extinguisher.
“Not a word fox boy” Hiei said as he turned around to face the front of the Jeep again.
“Wasn't planning on it,” Kurama said coolly, smiling back at his friend.
Hiei shifted the car into gear and heard sirens in the distance as they drove towards their apartment.
