“Fledgling?” Yusuke cried, his eyes wide with near terror.
Kurama stared at Syra, his green eyes full of hurt. “Why didn't you tell us? Me?” His tone was hurt…badly.
“She didn't want to be taken of the team. Right, love?” Hiei sneered, his eyes full of hate and malice.
“Don't call me that you lousy leech!” Syra screamed, her voice oozing with hatred, taking a stake off of Kurama's belt. “I hate you! You took my life away! I thought you loved me, and all I wanted was to have a family and have grandchildren! You took that from me!”
Hiei's eyes narrowed into slits, his red irises only showing slightly. “I could have killed you that night you ungrateful bitch!”
Syra slammed the stake to the ground, cracking the pavement. “I would rather have died, you wife of a bitch!”
Hiei narrowed his eyes in anger as his teeth elongated.
He was gone the next second.
“Syra, I wouldn't take you off the mission.” Kurama said, the hurt still in his voice. He felt deceived and lied to.
“Come off it Kurama! You know you would! Don't lie to me!” Syra yelled, glaring deeply at him. “Maybe you should stop lying to me…” He replied, turning around to go back to his car.
Hunter looked at the ground and began walking back to the Porsche as well. “Hunter! You knew, didn't you?” Kurama accused, pointing his long slender finger at her.
“Any vampire who knows Hiei's blood signature does. Her scent practically screams `I'm Hiei's fledgling!'. Now calm down before you hurt yourself.” She replied, her glare matching that of Syra's.
Kurama grabbed her shoulder. “You could've told me!”
Hunter spun around and slapped Kurama right across his face with her vampiric. “It wasn't my place to tell you about Syra's personal life and it's not your place to interrogate me!”
Kurama brought his hand up to his sore cheek, shocked. It was the first time anyone slapped him for any good reason. It was the first time he ever deserved one. His cheek stung horribly with his hand pressed against it.
Yusuke was still watching the flames, tears streaming down his face. “Let's just find him and smear his remains across the main avenue.” He muttered, going back to his motorcycle. “Now we all have a reason to kill that bastard.”
Yusuke stood with Hunter, Syra, and Kurama in the alley, feeling the closing in of many vampires.
“I'll fight them on the left, Syra on the right. Hunter and Kurama, you take care of the rest.” Yusuke said, getting into a fighting stance as the vampires came out of the shadows, glowering and snarling.
“You can't handle twenty of them alone, Yusuke!” Kurama hissed, slowly reaching for his rain water. Kurama knew Yusuke was strong, but not that strong.
“I damn well can!” Yusuke replied, running to meet the vampires head on.
“Yusuke! No!” Hunter screamed, trying to run after him, but about five vampires got in her way. “Yusuke!”
There was a gull blown battle in the alley, the vampire hunters winning. But there was no sign of Yusuke.
Hunter fought furiously, beating down anything that got in her way. Her friend needed her help and she was determined to get there.
“Yusuke!” She called desperately, tears starting to fall. Her friend did not answer. Hunter could still hear his heart beat, faint, but there.
“Syra!” Hunter cried, her blood tears coming down harder. “I know!” She replied, slamming her foot down on another vampires head.
Kurama stabbed the last vampire in the chest. He didn't even watch it turn to dust, he was too busy looking for Yusuke.
Syra and Hunter gasped. The slow, but steady, pounding in their ears stopped. “It's gone!” Hunter sobbed, throwing the bodies to the side until she finally found him.
His eyes were open, gazing into nothing, his mouth parted slightly. Blood pooled around the back of his head and his right side.
“No!” Hunter screamed, pulling his head onto her lap. She fumbled with the zipper attaching her sleeve to her glove, sobbing. “He can't die! He just can't!”
Hunter tried to cut her wrist, but she was too upset. Syra grabbed her shoulder. “It's too late, and your blood wouldn't be strong enough. My blood isn't even strong enough to bring him back.”
As Syra's words sunk in, Hunter let out a low sob, pulling Syra down into a tight embrace. She sobbed into her vampire friends shoulder, hugging her for dear life.
Kurama hated Hiei even more now. Not only did he kill another one of his close friends, but he caused Hunter to cry, something no one expected.
A quick wind blew Kurama's flame red hair about, showing the presence of Hiei.
“Oh, did another friend die? Pity.”
Syra broke away from Hunter and stood up, staring at Hiei contemptuously. She balled her hands into fists, drawing blood from her palms.
“I'm going to kill you!” She shrieked, lunging at him.
But Hiei popped the lid off of a vial and splashed the substance at her. It was holy water.
Syra saw the water coming at her, but could only cover her face. She was going to die if that hit her. Suddenly, she was shoved off course and landed a good three yards from her original standing point.
But her relief soon turned violently to horror as she heard sizzling and a great shriek of pain.
Hunter had pushed her out of the way.
Hiei was gone from sight, but his presence still hovered around them.
Kurama was kneeling beside Hunter as she held her face and moaned in pain. Her fingers were also sizzling and melting as the held the wounded flesh beneath.
Syra closed her eyes, trying to hold back her tears. “You idiot! Why-“ “ You would have died! I will live.” Hunter replied, taking her hand away from her critically injured face.
The whole right side of her face was melted beyond repair, her skin still melting. He right eye was completely gone, melted away. Her lips were melting away and the melting of her nose began to slow down. But soon she cringed over giving out a hiss of pain, digging her nails right through her shirt and into her abdomen.
“What's the matter? Hunter?” Kurama grabbed her shoulders and shook her as her eyes rolled into the back of her head. Blood spots were appearing on her shirt, along with wounds appearing down her arms. Her hair began to turn gray and fall out and the other side of he face grew open wounds.
She looked back at Kurama. “I-I drank some. Some got into-“ She screamed in pain as a wound grew right where Kurama's hand held. He let go of her, lying her down on his lap. “Some got into my mouth.” Hunter said before her tongue got attacked by the poison water. She shrieked in pain, causing Kurama to finally break down and cry, hanging his head.
His red hair became a curtain around Hunter's face as she screamed again, spitting up blood. Blood poured out of her mouth and what was left of her nose. She writhed around on Kurama's lap, clutching at her heart as though she was trying to dig something out of her chest.
Her shirt tore as her nails broke the threads of the woven wool. She deepened the melted wounds on her chest and put claw marks through them. Her right eye grew wide and the pupil got small, almost non-existent. She could no longer think like a human as the water ate away at her brain.
She let out low moans that ended with sobs and growls. Kurama finally just placed her on the ground and walked away, letting out long, low sobs. Hunter was on the ground, an ugly creature, writhing about, curling up, only to cause more pain to her deteriorating organs.
Syra let out a scream, picked up a stake from the ground, and stabbed Hunter in the chest, killing her instantly.
“She would've suffered many hours if I hadn't killed her.” Syra whispered, letting her tears fall. “Four friends in two hours. He's a monster.” She whispered.
