Unseen Love 4 Welcome to the Real World
Chapter 1

It was just another day at school, normal as far as anyone could tell, tests, teachers complaining about the fact that I'm wearing the boy's uniform and won't take off my silver cape, why won't they just give up, it ain't happening. When school finally got out, I was due for detention; however, I never go anyway, so immediately I headed for the door, slipping past the principal in the crowd by hiding behind the tallest boy in the class, Shuichi Minamino. I made my way back to my home above the Sunana Café, and immediately climbed up to the roof to phase through the ceiling onto the top floor where all of my personal items were kept, safe from the suspicious eyes of my cousins when they came to visit. I was greeted by my twin-tail, black cat demon companion, Kolita, who purred for a second before following me to the meditation room. I had about an hour before I have to leave to pick one of my cousins up from the airport, and I intended to spend it meditating. Then, just as you would expect, I felt a vibration in my pocket. I sighed as I pulled out the communication mirror and opened it.
"What's wrong, Ayame?" I asked immediately, without even really looking at who was on the other side, automatically knowing that it would be that black-haired, depressing-looking Grim Reaper who gave me orders from Yama-sama.
"The Four Saint Beasts have demanded their release," Ayame answered.
"Yeah, and what else is new? They've been demanding their release ever since they were sealed up in that castle," I pointed out.
"This time they've managed to set loose a bug from Makkai that will affect the ningens, and they claim that they won't recall their pests until they are freed," Ayame explained.
"Of course. So, what do you want me to do about it? Doesn't Reikai have someone specially trained to exterminate bugs? Because I'm not, and I'm a little busy so I can't exactly go kick their asses for making such a stupid threat," I commented.
"We want you to create an opening in the barrier," Ayame responded.
"So you're going to let them go? Why not just take down the entire barrier?"
"We aren't letting them go," Ayame sighed. "We need a small opening to send Koenma's new Spirit Detective through in order to go deal with the beasts."
"New Spirit Detective?" I asked as the image of Koenma's previous Spirit Detective flashes in my mind and slight pain strikes where my heart should be.
"Yes, after seven long years, Koenma has finally found a new flunky to call his Spirit Detective. His name is…."
"I don't care what his name is," I interrupted. "I don't plan on getting involved with anymore of the Prince's Spirit Detectives, you got that?"
"But, you're the only one who can make the opening," Ayame complained. "Only those of the Sukana Clan can mess with that barrier, and you know that."
"Yeah, yeah, I'll make the opening, but I'm not going anywhere near that Detective. I'll head out now and I'll give you the location after it's finished, then you can get the new guy all set up on his job. I've got other things to do today."
"Of course, my best regards to Suna-san," Ayame nodded in agreement.
"Yeah, maybe this year I'll actually be able to pick her up and not get my head chewed off by Callaway-san," I chuckled. "Later."
With that, I closed the communication mirror and pulled out my cell phone as I held my arm out for Kolita to climb up. I phased through the ceiling with Kolita on my shoulder as I speed-dialed Lenny down in the café.
"What's up, Sal?" Lenny asked immediately when he picked up the phone.
"I got another mission," I explained.
"Didn't you just get home from school?"
"Barely," I replied.
"What about Kakieta-chan?" Lenny asked.
"Don't worry, this won't take long, I'll be on time this year," I respond.
"I hope so, but maybe I should call Naomi-chan just in case," Lenny suggested.
"I've got this all under control. I've just gotta make a hole in a barrier," I shrugged as Kolita transformed and I hopped on her back. "I'll just fly straight over to the airport after the mission, I should get there about the same time that her plane does."
"All right," Lenny sighed. "Good luck."
"Later."
With that, I hung up the phone and Kolita took off under the cover of an invisibility spell that prevented any ningen from seeing us.
"If I'm not mistaken, the barrier should be weakest at the old haunted warehouse," I told my companion.
She nodded in agreement as she took off in that direction. We were there in no time at all and together we entered the building, brushing away the dust in the room with some of my wind powers.
"Here we are," I announced once I found the weakest point.
I lifted up the square in the floor and began the forty-minute process of breaking through the barrier and when I finally finished, I placed the floor gingerly back in place, making it look just as it had before so that no ningens would try to go exploring, I mean, how horrible would that be for a ningen to lift up a piece of the floor and fall into a world of youkai that they shouldn't even know about? Yeah, I don't even want to try to sort all of that out.
"All right, Kolita, let's get over to that airport," I stated once I was finished.
We left the warehouse and took flight, once again under the protection of spells, and I pulled out my communication mirror to call Ayame.
"Are you finished?" she asked immediately.
"No, I'm just calling you to let you know that I'm concentrating so hard on creating this gap so you better appreciate me," I rolled my eyes. "Of course I'm finished. It's under one of the tiles in the old haunted warehouse."
"You know, sometimes your attitude really sucks," Ayame sighed.
"Whatever, I'm heading off to pick up Suna-san," I said.
"All right, hopefully you're there on time this time."
"I should be."
With that, I close the mirror and concentrate on my destination. Upon our arrival, I realize just how stupid I was. Since I rode Kolita here, that means that on the way home I would have to walk, carrying Kolieta's stuff, perfect.
We entered the building, Kolita back to her small cat-like form as she sat on my shoulder peacefully. I look up at one of the flight schedules and curse under my breath. Kakieta's flight had arrived ahead of schedule. I pull out my cell and call Lenny, knowing that he would be the first person that she would call.
"Finally made it to the airport, did ya?" Lenny asked.
"Yeah, I take it you got a call from Suna-san?"
"Yeah, I send Naomi over to get her about fifty minutes ago because I knew you were busy with your mission. I told them that you weren't feeling that well today so you were in bed," Lenny explained.
"What kind of lame excuse is that?" I asked, anger building up inside of me as I tried to suppress her. "Never mind," I sighed as I hung up the phone. Immediately I called Naomi's cell, knowing that she would be pissed, after all, there was no way that she would fall for such a stupid excuse.
"Salina! Salina! Help us!" Naomi's voice screamed from the other line.
"Callaway-san? What happened? What's wrong?" I asked immediately, my eyes widening.
"Salina, is it?" a male voice came from the other end.
"Who are you?" I demanded.
"If you ever expect to see these two ninigens again, I suggest you have a talk with those in Reikai about having us set free, or else we may not be able to restrain ourselves long enough to keep them alive," the voice responded before the dial tone sounded in my ear.
"Damn it," I cursed as I hung up the phone, quickly running back out the door and having Kolita transform as we take off. I call Lenny one more time and don't even wait for him to speak as soon as he picks up. "Lenny, big trouble, they've been captured by the Four Saint Beasts!"
"Who've been captured?" he asked, startled.
"Suna-san and Callaway-san," I replied. "I'm going after them. Don't wait up for me."
"Bring them back safe, Sal," Lenny stated, "and yourself as well."
I hang up and focus on getting to the warehouse immediately. We arrived just in time; the blue-haired, pink-eyed Botan was there with four other people, two ningens, one youkai, and Shuichi Minamino.
"Salina-san, what are you doing here?" Botan asked immediately.
"Sal-chan?" Shuichi blinked.
"Save it, fox-boy," I replied as Kolita hopped up on my shoulder. "I've got business with these Four Saint Beasts, so don't get in my way."
"How'd you…?" Shuichi blinked.
"I didn't know Yama-sama had you on the case already," Botan commented. "Maybe you guys aren't as needed as I thought you were."
"I'm not doing this as a mission to Yama-sama," I responded. "Whatever that toddler has them doing doesn't affect me."
"What are you talking about?" Botan asked.
"The Four Saint Beasts kidnapped Callaway-san and Suna-san," I explained. "I'm going to get them back, plain as that."
"How could they have done that?" Botan gasped.
"It must have been while I was messing with the barrier, Genbu must have discovered that while the barrier was fluctuating he could slip through by melting into the stone of ningenkai," I explained. "I didn't think they'd catch on that fast."
"AAAAAHHHHHHH!" a female ningen screamed from outside.
"What was that?" the orange-haired guy in blue asked as he looked towards the door.
"The insects are having their fun with the ningens," Botan commented. "I have to stay here and deal with the insects, Yusuke-kun, you have to go destroy that whistle before it's too late; I can only do so much on my own."
"Come on, Kolita," I state as I step forward and drop through the gap in the barrier.
