Chapter Fifteen: Magic Spells

Kaline's POV

"Urameshi!" someone screamed, causing me to jolt awake. "Come back here with my things!"

"C'mon, Kuwabara. Can't you run any faster? You're fallin' behind!" Yusuke shouted back, laughing loudly.

Opening my eyes, I glanced at the clock. 'It's six in the morning... they are so dead.' Angry, my eyes flashing dangerously, I got up out of bed, silently fuming. I hated being woken up early. I was on vacation, for crying out loud! No one had the right to wake me up at un-godly hours for no reason at all.

With my fists balled, I left the room and found the two human spirit detectives arguing in the living room. Yusuke had something behind his back, and both boys were getting in each other's faces.

I walked up to them, making sure to keep my voice intensely low. "Yusuke... Kuwabara... if you two don't shut up right now, I'm gonna pump you both so full of poison from my wind of the banshee attack that neither of you will be able to move for a month," I hissed at them. "And if either of you wake me up this early ever again, I will cut out both of your tongues, fry them up, and make you eat them. Have I made myself clear?"

Yusuke and Kuwabara nodded their heads in unison, strangely silent. Their eyes were wide and their skin was a little paler than usual.

"Good." With a smug look on my face, I went back to my room. Of course, since I was fully awake, there was no way I was getting back to sleep. I could sleep for hours on end, but once I woke up, that was it. There was no more Z's once my eyes opened and I sat up.

Once I entered the room, I found Kurama awake as well, sitting on his bed. "Good morning, Kaline," he said softly. "I guess that you shut off our alarm clock?" I knew that he was joking, that the alarm clock was reference to the two human boys. The joke cheered me up a little and caused me not to explode on Kurama for no reason.

"Yes... stupid little boys," I grumbled. "Waking me up at six in the morning. I otta duct tape their mouths shut."

Kurama chuckled. "Did you bring duct tape with you?"

"No, but don't you think for even a moment that I won't make it with my magic." I plopped down on the bed beside the fox demon, crossing my arms as I did so.

"I must remember that you're a grouch if you're woken up early for no reason," he commented. Of course, only Kurama would be capable of saying something like that to me and living. If anyone else had said that to me early in the morning, they would have ended up very hurt. "You an be as easily angered as Hiei sometimes."

"Yeah, so what?" The fox demon shrugged, not willing to answer that question.

Amazingly, since Kurama had mentioned Hiei, my mind brought up a question. "Now that you've referred to our little fire demon... why don't you tell me if you've gotten a chance to talk to him?"

"Yes, I did talk to him for a while," he replied. "It did not go well."

I winced, knowing what he had really meant. The translation for what he had really said: Hiei probably had gotten angry enough to cut off Kurama's head... if he had still had possession of his katana. "Is Hiei still angry?"

"I believe so," Kurama answered, putting his arm around me. "I wouldn't worry too much though. I'll just have to avoid him all day today and maybe tomorrow."

"Sounds like a plan," I commented, letting go of the rest of my anger. It was hard to stay anger around Kurama, especially when he acted sweet. I did love it when he put his arm around my shoulders.

As my anger faded, an idea popped into my mind. I had magic, and if I didn't want to listen to people shouting all the time, then I would just have to block out the noise. It didn't sound that hard at all. My magic was very versatile, and it would probably bend easily to do the simple spell I was thinking of.

With enthusiasm, I explained my idea to Kurama, my eyes lighting up. He readily agreed that it was a good idea, and he encouraged me to put my little plan into action as soon as possible.

Truthfully, he seemed almost more enthusiastic about the idea than I was. It was strange, considering that I was the one who really hated being woken up in the morning. I wasn't about to over-analyze the situation though. It was early in the morning, and my mind had a habit of playing tricks on me when it wasn't functioning properly.

Calling upon my spirit energy, I went to work. Twisting my powers to do what I wanted, I began to put a spell on all the bedrooms, knowing that they would probably thank me for it later. Weaving a layer of magic in the walls, I separated the inside and outside sounds. From then on, any noise would not be able to travel in or out of the rooms. If someone was in a bedroom, they wouldn't be able to hear what was going on outside the room and vice-versa.

As an afterthought, I added a little 'footnote' to the spell at the end. The sound WOULD be able to travel through the walls if it had a purpose. For example, if someone was to yell for me-

"Kaline! Breakfast is ready!"

"Yeah, c'mon, Kaline. I'm hungry and Botan won't let us start eating without you!"

-like that, then I would be to hear them.

Smiling and setting the spell in place, I quickly stood up and got dressed, noticing as I did so that Kurama was gone. Of course, it was eight in the morning, and watching me cast spells was boring, so I hadn't really expected him to stay.

I hummed to myself as I went down the hallway to the kitchen, very pleased with my success. Still with a large smile on my face, I sat down at the table and began to eat without even noticing the nervous looks I was getting from Yusuke and Kuwabara.
