Another thing that you can do is use a pencil. Well, the graphite is the important thing. Scribble all over the stubborn area with a graphite pencil and it'll be less likely to stick. I learned this from a shoe-person, who had to deal with a lot of stuck zippers on boots ^^ (Of course, in this case, Irvine's method is definately best ;p)
