Not only are you a total master of Sango and her characterization, but you plumb the depths of darkness and depravity with a steady hand. There are so many circumstances, all piling one on top of the other now, and you really convey that feeling of being trapped, caged, backed into a corner very, very well. I love that you don't flinch, that you don't offer her an easy answer - even the road she tries to take at the end, upon realizing the trap that has been sprung, is one she can't fully take advantage of. I...just...stand here, amazed, really. Others might call it torture or gratuitous, but to me, this is absolutely riveting. The characters all have shades of grey; you never know which ones are good and which ones are evil ~ or even if they aren't one in the same, an amazing nod to canon ~ and thus, as the reader, you feel slightly off-kilter, like you're two steps behind. But its a *good* feeling - the kind that keeps you on your toes. You were brave to kill off half the Inutachi in the first chapter, and now you continue down that same road, forging ahead into this alternate reality, to see what would've happened to Sango if her knight in shining armor had been Kagewaki instead of Miroku...and, of course, the fact that Miroku escaped slaughter makes me wonder if he will make an appearance at any point in the future, and if he does, what sort of shape Sango will be in. The idea of her possibly carrying Kagewaki's/Naraku's child just adds to the dark backdrop of this fic. Its dark without being angsty, you know what I mean? And that's the best sort of darkfic. I look forward to seeing where the journey takes us from here, and wondering if it will continue to test my personal limits on how dark I'm willing to read.

I have to say, though - even though this wasn't completely original material - I liked the way we were invited into Sango's head. I liked that this was from her point of view, one we didn't get to see in the manga. I liked the distinction you drew: that even if she is alive, physically, her spirit still lingers with her fallen comrades. Her pride led her to live long enough to fight, and now that she's altered the course of the canon story, I look forward to finding out where she goes from here. The darker, the better, I say - darkfic is good for the soul :D
