You have such a way with Sango, and it all seems so effortless, the way you bring her down to earth, slice through her complexities, to show the woman beneath that. I thought the words at the end were especially powerful: Naraku had been chipping away at her, stealing one part of her here, another part there, until all that was left was this... shell of a warrior, a fragment of a woman...It was about time she took a piece back. It is also very refreshing to see her take confidence and resolve from a sexual encounter with Miroku, instead of dissolving into a mass of angst and uncertainty. The idea of their bond strengthening even more, via a moment she instigated - wow. It's also a far more powerful reason for her to want to fight as hard as she does for Miroku as the canon story goes on ~ instead of fighting for a dream, a "what-might-be," she's fighting for a reality she now knows is attainable. It gives her something besides angst to drive her actions, I suppose is a good way to put it. I thought this was an appropriate "moment after" scene as well - sex doesn't magically heal either of their wounds, sweet words or lusty desire don't turn them into lovebirds in an easy, calm, *normal* relationship. There is still friction, awkwardness, but a new sort of understanding. Miroku respects her boundaries, and her tumultuous feelings, giving a depth to his maturity just as much as hers. Overall, this is an amazing piece of introspection and reflection ~ how did I miss it the first time around?

There aren't nearly enough Sango/Miroku pieces out there, a happenstance I know I am guilty of contributing to, myself, but this short piece just about makes up for that. It was a perfect glimpse into imperfect souls, struggling to acquire what we know they will one day achieve. It is easier to accept the limbo of uncertainty when one has already glimpsed the happy ending that lingers on the horizon. Sango's quest shall not be in vain.
