The way I see it, one of the first things that probably caught his eye about Kagome was how she wasn't afraid to argue with him...as an equal...rather than insulting him for his youkai heritage or cowering in fear of his demonic powers. He was always just a normal guy in her eyes, and if he was acting like a jerk then she'd call him on it. How could he ever want her to lose the spark that drew him to her in the first place? Screw what the villagers think.

chuckles. not really much difference in a lot of places still. it's great that he accepts and encourages her opinion and spirit. she's going to be one heck of a 'bad' example to the young ones in the village-- good for her. ♥
