It's kind of sad that something bad had to happen to Kagome in order for Inuyasha to get his head out of his ass, but the saddest thing of all is that probably is what it would take to get him to realize his mistake, at least when written with this particular mind set. I like to tweak the canon to keep things different, so sometimes I like the 'he is hell bent on keeping his vow of going to hell' version, and sometimes I like the 'he actually never promised any such thing and he has secretly been planning on mating Kagome all alone once Naraku is taken care of' version. For the purposes of this oneshot, however, the former is obviously the only one that works. There were two things I especially liked that brought more originality to this piece. One, it was also pointed out that he actually promised to protect Kagome before he promised to join Kikyou in hell, thus meaning that to truly keep his honor, it is the vow to Kagome that must take priority. I've seen this pointed out before, but very rarely. Truly, the only guilt he should feel towards Kikyou is in regard to making a promise he never should've made in the first place, not that he is unable to keep said promise. The second thing I really liked was that instead of simply having Kagome fall victim to some random act of violence herself, as has been done repeatedly and in many different settings, the reason she got all beat up like she did was because she came to somebody else's defense, throwing herself into the fight and most likely deliberately taking the brunt of the blows in order to protect the other girl. Typical Kagome, but that's why we love her, always thinking of others before herself, and by doing it this way, it doesn't make her the miserable damsel in distress, while still convincing Inuyasha that she needs him to protect her at the same time. Win/win. I can't wait to see what ideas 'come to you' next. Keep up the good work!
