Some people might be weirded out by Rin's young age in this story, but it does take place in the Sengoku jidai, and in truth, girls were married off at incredibly young ages not only in Japan's ancient culture, but in just about every ancient culture on Earth. In some places it's still going on. I think in the universe of this story, if anyone were to discover what they were up to, the only admonishing they would receive would be because they aren't married yet, thinking of Rin as any other unwed woman doing things with her future husband that are meant to wait until marriage. Personally, I really liked the concept of this story, that he announced his intentions so early, that it won't be a surprise for Rin when suddenly she's of age and her life flips upside down when the daiyoukai she thought could never want her suddenly wishes for her to be his mate. That she knows in advance, that they are betrothed in a sense and are 'practicing'...that's a unique angle I've never seen done before. I also loved Sesshoumaru's realization regarding his species, and the mention of inumochi. That's one thing I've always found curious regarding the Canon, that Sesshoumaru was so anti-human (at least until Rin came along). While in traditional mythology inugami can turn on their owners, Sesshoumaru struck me as the type to have never had an 'owner' to begin with, and I love that you took it in the same direction, that his father belonged to humans once upon a time, but broke free (in a sense) and Sesshoumaru was raised feeling freedom from humans. Can't escape his instincts, though. It's in his blood as an inuyoukai to belong to a human, and Rin is his chosen. I loved that. Great job all around!
