Nice take on a concept that's been done before. It makes perfect
sense to me that Kagome would feel that way. Even if you stuck with
the canon romantic development, she'd probably have some doubts.
But I agree that to take it this far you have to go off-canon a
bit, which is perfectly fine. The taking their time and dating
thing was definitely different for a story with youkai mating,
since most of the time they just jump right into bed and get mated
right away. This is more realistic, and also the way the mating was
done.
