I like this fic, so far, but a some of the time I find it a bit difficult to swallow.
that is how you give a critique, not telling the author how much they have ruined your life.
telling someone that they are writing bad porn and to imply that they are following around you to ruin your enjoyment of a series is not a critique. the hard, designed to be hurtful, tone gives it the boost of a flame.
if you flame, you can expect the same in return. period.
the fine art to giving a critique is to offer up the things you thought worked as well as the things you didn't. kipperdude didn't do either in his/her first 'statement'. he/she just made a blanket statement of 'this sucks'.
if he/she had said the things originally that were said in his/her followup, things would be different. he/she does offer up the things that he/she didn't like.
but to just 'complain'? poor form and shows a degree if immaturity even for all protests of a college degree.
i may not agree with the authors characterizations, nor may i not like the overly purple prose-y use of terms of endearment. but i appreciate that he takes great care in presenting a finished, polished product. i do like the way his phrasing runs in his stories, his descriptions are rich and vivid.
in reading something new of his, either it clicks in the first couple of paragraphs or it doesn't. but i don't feel the need to beat him with that. i Just. Don't. Read.
i will leave comments that i think its great (and try to point out what I thought was good and what i thought could use some work) or i go about my business. there are far too many fics out there to read for me to waste my time on bashing an author because they happen to not write the way "i" like stuff to be written.

Um, sorry about butting in where it's none of my business, but... There are times when I don't like E-sama's characterization. I like this fic, so far, but a some of the time I find it a bit difficult to swallow. I don't agree with how kipperdude made his/her(?) complaint known, but I just wanted to say something so that you know it's not just one person who doesn't like a part of the fiction. Something was said somewhere about E-sama's potential to grow as an author, so that's part of the reason why I'm speaking up, because if you just dismiss something because it was said rudely, you miss the truth that could be in it.
Uh . . . don't hate me. Please. That said, I really do like this fic! I hope you continue it soon! ^_^

E - like everyone else I apologize for using your comments section to speak to someone else.
kipperdude. I am somewhat perplexed by the bad porn comment. One of the appreciated things about E-sama's fics is his lyrical expression.
If you have been in the GW fandom for any length of time, then you have no doubt been subjected to writing by 'squeeing' fangirls who write formulaic fics to what amounts to truly bad porn.
Being a gay porn afficionado (what can I say, it comes with being a gay man), I fail to see how E's writing can be equated to bad porn. Certainly my love for the most loathsome of expressions (according to some people) has garnered me my share of 'you write gay porn, you suck' comments.
Well, I do write my fanfiction with an eye to the gritter side of gay male sex. So sue me...[shrugs]

kipperdude, I understand what you're trying to say. I'm glad you saw that your little comment on how an entire fandom was ruined was completely unacceptable. I'm sorry if anything I said offended you. It's just that E-sama takes his comments to heart and what you said really hurt him. I think he would have felt better if you emailed him and gone into full discussion rather than leave that hurtful comment you left him. I understand all you said. But I still think that, if you do not like his writing, don't read it. I sincerely doubt you'll like anything he writes later on cause he most likely change his style to suit you alone. Unlike you, most people do like his stuff.

Okay, in response to this (and sorry if I bug you by actually having the guts to reply):
1) Unless you're a member of MediaMiner, which I am not, there is no space for an email in the review section. Nor, considering your reply, am I willing to give one now.
2) I never claimed to be an author, nor am I not one. However, I do have a degree in English literature and I read a lot both in fandoms and out of them. I know what I like, and I know bad characterisation when I see it.
3) I do not "follow" Enigma around from fandom to fandom looking for an excuse to tear him to shreds. Please excuse me for not being that shallow. I simply find it annoying that whatever fandom I become interested in, he already seems to have started writing in, considering that I do not like his writing.
4) I started reading Enigma's writing because he seems to be well-respected in the Gundam Wing community, and continued because despite being unable to see anything beyond bad porn dialect I thought everyone else must be seeing something I don't, and that perhaps I was being too judgemental from the beginning. I did not find that to be the case. I admit that I could have put my comment in a nicer tone, but simply dismissing someone's complaint about the fanfiction as the mindless drivel of an incompetent insults both me, you, and Enigma's potential to grow as an author.
5) I was out of line with the "ruining the fandom" comment. I apologise.
6) There is a line between acceptable OOC-ness and so-far-out-of-character-it-could-be-an-OC-ness. Please excuse me for not liking the latter.
7) While most sane people may not read an author's works if they don't like them, when I am continually told that Enigma is a great author, excuse me for trying to see if his writing style has changed from when I last read it. Since it has not in all the time I have tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, I feel I am entirely justified in complaining about it.

Good, very very good. I've been reading this story for a long time now and I finally decided to review. I just started watching Saiyuki and your fic is the first I'm reading. Naturally, since it's coming from you, I love it. I can't think of anything to complain about yet.
Now excuse me for three seconds...
To the flamer below, if you didn't like his stories, why on earth did you keep reading them? If you can click on the story to read it, you most certainly click on the back button to go away. And how can one author destroy an entire fandom for you? I'm sorry but that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life. And there is nothing wrong with turning a character OOC. In fact, E-sama MENTIONS that this is AU-OOC before the story begins! So you have no right to whine about that! Please do us a favor: if you don't like it, don't read it much less review it.

I might have enjoyed this fic if it was actually in character - or even anywhere remotely NEAR character. The writing was okay near the beginning, but quickly degenerated to the level of bad porn.
