Well put my young friend. Actually there were 904 cases of prosecution of rape with 250 sentenced. The Corp had 450 with 300 sentenced and shot. Occupation authority had 5,000 rape cases for the first year alone. To avoid publicity MacArthur and S.C.A.P. Hq set a propaganda wall and used the Yakuza to keep things quiet while they set up a brothel system. Once the Korean war started all cases were no longer recorded and remaining files were labeled secret. They are now availble for veiwing, but there is a lot of red tape. You also cannot copy the documents, only look at them from the vault as they are extremely fragile due to a movement accident. Well till next time. Urrah Semper Fidelis

Excellent chapter .. from all points of view! As far as the research goes, I agree with you whole-heartedly. Books were for the upper-class. And as such were completely biased. Once any books were written for the populace in general (of any culture) they were seriously edited to say what either the church or the monarchy wanted them to say. Our best example of that alone is the King James Bible. The monks that were doing the copying had to change phrases so that they read the way the King wanted them to. If they didn't comply, they were beheaded and someone else got the job that would do as the King said to. And no, I'm not trying to inflame the christians, that is historical fact. It's just the one that I know is verifiable that I can think of at the moment. Not to mention Nostradamus. What was it? 12 people that were going over and translating the quatrains? And they still disagree (even after the book has been written and published) about the meanings and how the "translations" SHOULD have been? Let alone the folks that are crying out now that he didn't even write the things. And as far as history being changed ... they still do it today. In trying to make things more "politically correct" for our children to read in the schools, they chenged the entire way different historic events are portrayed. Ah well ^_^' :::steps off her soapbox:::

As always with you this fic was very well done and well researched. I admire that you to like to research before fics as I do. And if I remember properly incest happened in the United States as well. In egypt, cleopatra one of the most intelligant women ever was a result of 12 generations of incest. Well done keep up the good work. Rainbowdragon210@aol.com

That's a heck of a conversation you had Kagome and Mrs. H in. But from what I could tell of it, dead on accurate! As a parent, in this day and age, the idea of anyone except their chosen partners (at an age that they could make those decisions) touching my children sets off red flags. However, I also realize that they're going to explore their own bodies and a see no problem with concept at all. Natural curiosity that becomes repressed, leads to more problems later than allowing the curiosity to take it's natural course. I totally agree with the bonding that comes only with breastfeeding. Not to mention the antibodies that are passed on through the milk (although, with Shippo being demonkind, most human diseases shouldn't? bother him). And, fyi, Japan wasn't the only country that had ... bizarre twists? in the family tree. The US has had it's fair share all through history. And pick a "royal" ... they're ALL related. I think I remember the line "you have to be careful when bringing in 'new blood'" from one of the historic books I have/had. But that general sense is usually in most of the more honest books. Anyway, wonderful story! You must have spent a bit more than your fair share of time on this one just on research alone. But it came across well and in a very caring manner for such an emotional topic.

You kept Eastern Perspective quite well, except for genetics which is a western notion. Also in an earlier chapter Kagome came across a breastmilk spell. That won't be nesscary as Breastmilk is controled by the Pituary hormones not ovarian,so nipple stimulation for 2-3 days is enough to produce milk. Thats how I breastfed 2 of my 3 adopted children. Also breast size increases during breastfeeding and doesn't fully return to orginal size. Further Kagome would need to shop for nursing bras. If you need further Ideas for writing on this subject, terri botta's story Lucky Ones can give some pointers. Patricia Golladay. P.S. My husband will be home in a week with our grandson.

Quite an interesting chapter. I read your stories as much for the interesting cultural details as the actual story. ^_^ I do feel that Kagome and her mother's discussion focused a bit much on the ideal situation. While Kaede's village could be accepted as a kind of model for the "ideal" feudal village, that disregards the fact that larger villages wouldn't be as closely knit, and how any abuse or neglect would be handled would depend on the person who lead (ruled) the village. Not to mention that human societies usually have a pecking order, in which the unlucky person(s) at the bottom of the rung can only take what's dished out. Rin's situation at her introduction in the series being an example of what I mean. What would be interesting in any case, is how living a large city of the time like Kyoto would affect the kind of family dynamic you discussed in regards to Kaede's village. In any case, an interesting chapter.

I must say that I'm floored by the amount of reseach that you have done for this fic, I applaude your efforts. I thank you as well for being so open about something most of us would go running from if we heard it in a 'formal' setting. Thank you for the education and insight, and keep on writing, talte and patices such as yours should not be wasted. (someone has to keep those of us who are lazy one our toes) PS, sorry about the spelling mistake, I can't spell to save my life. Bye for now.

I really liked this. I love how you keep shocking Kagome's modern sensibilties. You do a great job of adding historical facts into your stories. It just makes them so much more interesting. I like Kagome's plan at the end. Please write another chapter showing her doing the spell and bonding with shippo. That would be so sweet. I'm a sucker for sap.

I think you are going about this story the right way. I know a bit about childbirth and I think you have the right idea. So what about you being a guy, from what I have read, I have found that you have described childbirth correctly. Good Job so far!

I'm surprised son that you are asking permission to have Kagome breastfeed Shippou. Live dangerously. Besides which I would like to see what effect that would have on Inu Yasha. Semper Fidelis

A neat story. Like your other stories (especially "A Shard in Kyoto" which is by far, my favorite), this gives plenty of information; especially for one like me who will be minoring in Japanese Studies. As to your question about Shippou and Kagome, if that's how things were done in those days, why should Kagome (or for that matter, the reader) feel ashamed for acting in such a manner? Sure, by our Western and modern standards, these things scream incest, but well, our society has had one collective stick shoved up its arse since the era of the Puritans, if you ask me. Again, a good read. Can't wait for more, or an update of Shard.
