I love your story and really hope that you update as soon as possible. I dont know all of the foods that they eat but I do know one. Tamales-which you can find on http://www.texmextogo.com/Glossary.htm but they do take a while to make around. My mom makes them and its takes her all night to just make them and not cook them. The site is helpful so check it out
