Even though it was shorter, I enjoyed the first chapter better. There was more description and development of the scene involved. The second chapter, being largely dialog and one-line sentences, felt flat and undeveloped. There are quite a few grammar mistakes in both chapters, mostly involved with the quotations; a good grammar-oriented beta reader could help with that. Rather than having the dialog do all of the expression, try generating more emotional tension through description and character introspection; I think that will give a more powerful effect like you were looking for. This is a rough start, but it has potential to be developed. :)
