Um, I know that in a lot of fanictions, Inuyasha and his mom live in a village, but in the anime, Izayoi is dressed as a princess, and that scend where he's crying and she's holding him definately takes place in some castle or great house. The people who play keep away with Inu's ball are courtiers, dressed as nobles. Definitely not common folk.
