Wonderful, you tricksy authoress, you. It is dark, but with a finely wrought, appropriate conclusion. You made me ponder the symmetry of the various relationships in a way I really hadn't before. I have my own theories about the girls, but, recalling the anime, there are certainly enough intimations regarding the possibility that you have outlined here.
