Inuyasha and kagome really need to set down and talk. I can't see him run off with koga to be with someone else. What kagome did was wrong she'll have to earn his trust back. But he should forgive her after all he has done a lot of stupid things to kagome and she always forgave him. If you can't forgive the people you love and care about, you didn't really care or love them at all.

Which makes sense, because people tend to take their closer friend's side even if that friend was horribly, horribly wrong. Sango's little outburst was totally uncalled for. Here's the thing, Inuyasha's justifiably upset. Instead of acting like an adult and apologizing then giving him time to cool off, Kagome decided to immediately fake an injury, and get the others to go along with her lie in what I assume was an attempt for sympathy. It's not Inuyasha's fault that Kagome decided to run away, get injured, and act like a drama queen over the treatment of her injuries. Sango seemed way too eager to bitch out Inuyasha for what's going on. Is it ever going to be Kagome's turn to be bitched at? She is more to blame for what's going on after all, but even with the very real possibility of Inuyasha leaving hanging over their heads, she's still getting treated with kid's gloves. She needs a good (verbal) kick in the pants. Kagome can just go home for a few days to cool off after a bad argument, but Inuyasha has no such place, which is probably why things are getting worse. And as random as Kouga showing up with his offer is (probably not the route I would have taken, but I've never actually finished writing a story, so whatever), it might be a good idea to take him up on it.

I just read it today, and I must admit that it is a refreshing take on the "betrayal" storylines that many people write. I like the fact that Inuyasha is the injured party in the story, and that Kagome is the one who wronged him. I like how he doesn't automatically accept her half-baked apology and is actually making her think on her actions. I mean, we all know that Inuyasha says and does things that he doesn't mean, but that's just part of who he is. He's an orphan--an outcast--who's lived on his own since he was a young child. He's raised himself, and in my opinion, he's done a really good job of it. Yeah, he's rude and obnoxious, but anyone with an eye for people (or half a brain) can look beyond his exterior and realize that the way he acts is a method of self-preservation. Anyone who has been hunted for his entire life is not likely to be an overly nice person who is considerate of others' feelings. Having said that, he could lighten up on Kagome and the insults a little (which I feel he has done in the anime/manga). However, Kagome was 100% wrong in this story and her reaction only made things worse. Instead of trying to work things out like a responsible person, she attempts to use trickery to play on his sympathy and get him to forgive her. Of course he was pissed when he found out. Who wouldn't be? She lied to him to get him to do something that he didn't want to do. She then enlists the aid of the others in the group to carry on the charade, making it look worse for her when Inuyasha discovers the truth. I don't blame him for feeling like he's the object of their amusement, because in a way he is. It's too bad that Kagome had to screw everything up first or else he might have actually listened to her apology. Once she admitted her trickery, however, he closed himself off to her. If I may--please don't make Kagome's wounds get infected then have Inuyasha wax all poetic and stuff and forgive her transgressions cause, well, I'm kinda tired of that and personally I think it's a cop-out. If she wants his forgiveness, she needs to earn it, and getting sick from wounds she received cause he didn't fall for her bs just doesn't fall into my idea of earning forgiveness. Yes it's sad that she has to tell Sango that she really is sorry because Inuyasha doesn't believe her, but it's her fault. She's the one that created this mess now she needs to finish it. I also hope Sango doesn't butt in like her and the others often do and make Inuyasha feel bad because he didn't automatically accept her half-baked apology. In my understanding of the anime/manga, Kagome doesn't readily accept his apologies either. He usually ends up with a mouth full of dirt and has to let her go home for a few days before she'll consent to be in his presence, so she should have some serious groveling to do. Maybe Inuyasha should leave for a while to cool off, cause I'm getting the vibe that being around everyone and having them pressure him into forgiving her could only make a bad situation worse. I don't know. Sorry if you think I'm rambling but I really like this fic and wanted to give my honest opinion.

I guess that'll just prove to Inuyasha that he really isn't needed after all. I was re-reading this story before I wrote this review, and one thing stood out; I really don't think Kagome and the others get how bad what she said really was. I mean, so far the only attempt at anything that could lead to an apology was Kagome faking an injury to manipulate Inuyasha into carrying her, then everyone guilt-tripping him over not helping with a non-existant injury. Someone needs to yell some sense into them. Chapter 3 bothers me even more on a second reading, you can really see the difference in how the group treats Inuyasha compared to Kagome. With Kagome, who said something stupid and horrible because she got angry (and who should have been used to the remarks Inuyasha uses about the shards and Naraku by now), gets nothing other than a "you'd better apologize then." With Inuyasha, who's being overly harsh because he's hurt and angry (and couldn't have reasonably expected Kagome to unload on him like that, especially since what he said wasn't even really that bad or atypical of him, except for insisting he wasn't thanked. And even then it's entirely possible he missed the 'thank you' and used one of his typical automatic, all purpose responses. Adrenaline may have made him not pay attention to what she was saying, I mean he did just kill something), they all (even Kaede, who should know better) manipulate him emotionally by lying about Kagome's ankle (and trying to make him feel guilty for an injury that doesn't exist becoming worse), and are fairly condescending, judgmental, and push him to go after her because he's hurt her feelings. She's not the wronged or injured party here (for once), and not once have they tried to show or tell Inuyasha that what Kagome said wasn't true. I'm not sure if that was intentional on your part or not, but that's actually how I see something like that happening on the show/manga (you can sort of see it after they have fights over Kouga). With friends like that, if I was in Inuyasha's place I'd have left them behind already, and just hunted shards on my own. It has to be possible for him to sense them a little, after all Shippo could sense them on Kagome when he first met her. Actually, come to think of it, so do most of the people/demons they come across.

I like how everyone's plan to get Inuyasha and Kagome to make up isn't as heavy handed as the usual "just go and apologize to her, stupid" plan that most people seem to write, no matter who's at fault. Miroku's "fly by the seat of his pants" plan to give Inuyasha perspective on the number of mean things she said (compared to what he says), is very subtle and without the wink, uncatchable. It's a perspective that Inuyasha needs. However, since Inuyasha doesn't know it's a trick, it could also very easily backfire. It doesn't really help Kagome's "I didn't mean it, we're not using you" defense when everyone gives him a harder time about his comments than they gave Kagome. I would also argue that what Kagome told him is more cruel than everything he's ever said put together. In terms of support, Inuyasha literally has nobody else other than that group, and really hasn't had anybody since his mother (Kikyo, even though she was his girlfriend hadn't quite gotten there yet, but probably would have if she hadn't died). And he was told by the one person who's always nice and never lies that he wasn't needed and (reading between the lines) that he wasn't liked. At least Inuyasha has the excuse that he raised himself, and therefore can't read or monitor other people's emotions very well, so when he says something mean to someone to protect himself (the best defense is a good offense) he really has no idea how much it hurts them. Kagome really doesn't have that excuse, she just got really mad and said stuff she didn't mean. Which is still a perfectly valid excuse. I hope you update soon because I think you've set yourself up for some interesting writing depending on how long you plan to make this story. Does Inuyasha go to Kagome, apologize and work out their problems, does he let her go, or does he retrieve her, and taking her words from the first chapter to heart, as well as everyone's reactions to Kagome's distress, decide it's better for everyone involved if he just leaves the group? Can't wait to find out. BTW, if you want more reviews, try writing more story. I know I have a hard time reviewing if the story's just a short little thing like this was for half a year. I like to get an idea of where it's going before I review.
