Seriously, though, even though I don't know a lot about the storylines behind Final Fantasy, the story you portrayed here really moved me. It's angsty without being overbearing, and the happy ending didn't hurt. ~_^
I love your style of writing; the songfic elements blended right into the pace of the fic, making it a smooth, easy-to-read transition. Usually I skip over the lyrics in a songfic, because they kind of break up the continuity; here, however, they blended right into the flow of the fic, and I didn't even completely realize until halfway through that you were actually using most of the song instead of just a choice line or two.
If there are any spelling or grammar problems, they're so minor I didn't notice them. None of the words "stumbled" so to speak, and the dialog of the characters was clearly distinguishable from the body of the fic, giving the characters wonderful personality.
Again, I don't know the storyline behind the series, so I don't know if the characters' backgrounds are accurate or not - the way you portrayed them, however, was an original, interesting way to get to know them better. I added a "10" for Originality/Creativity based on that.
I completely enjoyed this fic (if you can't tell by the rating ~_^). It tugged at my heart strings, especially finding out how a little boy's tragic Christmas affected the rest of his life, but the happy ending left me with that "warm, fuzzy, Christmas feeling" that tends to abound this time of year. It also left hope that with the friendship of his new "family", he'll be able to ease the pain of his loss.
Four tens average out to ten, so I think the overall rating is self-explanatory. ~_^ |
