DISCLAIMER PART 2: This story was partially inspired by Doggeiearlover's oneshot `Save Me, Heal Me, Hold Me', and too many other `Kagome gets raped' stories to mention. When I first posted this version of this story, I contacted Doggiearlover to see if she objected to this story, which she did not.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: WARNING, this chapter includes graphic violence and rape. I am in no way trying to make light of such a serious subject. If you are offended by, or do not wish to read such material, please leave now. You have been warned.

If you are looking for a story that portrays rape as `sexy', you had also better leave now. I do NOT see rape that way. I am also NOT going to have Kagome jump into a sexual relationship with Inuyasha a couple of days after her attack either, as a way to recover. This fanfic is aimed at showing a more realistic view of what a rape victim suffers and has to go through on the road to recovery.

Chapter 1 - Attacked

Thunder rumbling overhead, Kagome once again cursed herself for her stupidity, as she headed back towards the school. She had promised Inuyasha she would come straight back to the Feudal Era as soon as school was over. That, along with the promise of lots and lots of ramen, had been the only reason Inuyasha had agreed to let her come home for three days. Now her time as up, and she was still here, still at school, and no doubt had a pissed off hanyou waiting for her back at the shrine.

Kagome hadn't meant to be late getting home. She had actually missed Inuyasha over the last couple of days, and had been looking forward to seeing him. It was just that, she discovered just as she was about to leave that she had a biology test next week, and knew she would have to study for that. She had decided she could study for the test in the Feudal Era and that she should just grab her text book out of her locker and go home. Unfortunately, she was on her way to do just that when Hojo ambushed her to ask her out on a date, again. You would think after two years of excuses, cancelled dates and flat out no's, that he would get the point. Kagome was trying to turn him down easy when out of nowhere, Eri and Yuka appeared and accepted for her. It took Kagome a good ten minutes to convince the kind but stupid boy that she couldn't go out with him, whatever her friends said. It then took twenty minutes for Kagome to convince Eri an Yuka that yes, she was sure she didn't want to go out with Hojo, and that no, she didn't need to `dump her no good two-timing boyfriend' and `find a man worthy of her'. She was also pretty certain that although Eri and Yuka did eventually let it go, she hadn't succeeded in the second one. When were those two going to leave her alone when it came to Inuyasha? One rant two years ago, and she was still paying for it. At least Ayumi trusted her enough to let her make her own decisions without endless meddling.

The result of those two conversations, was that Kagome was so pissed off that she had stormed off towards home, half an hour late already, and only then remembered when she was two thirds of the way back to the shrine, that she had never gotten her biology book. Hence the pissed off hanyou.

If only Inuyasha realized, she didn't really want to be at school, maybe he would calm down slightly. If only he could see that school was something she simply had to do, if she had any chance of a future in this era. But then, did she really want to have a future in this era? After all, the feudal era was feeling more and more like her real home, while coming back to this world seemed to become more and more like an obligation. Aside from her family of course, but they were different. When the search for the Jewel was finally over, would she really want to return here? Or would she want to be there, with her new family? Would she even have a choice?

Kagome shook her head to get rid of such thoughts. Worrying about them right now would do her no good. Right now, what she had to worry about was getting her forgotten book, and getting out of here and back to the shrine as fast as she could, before an angry Inuyasha came looking for her (that is, if it wasn't already too late for that). Kagome couldn't believe she had been stupid enough to forget her biology book, no matter how angry she was with Hojo and her so-called friends. In her final year of school, it was a miracle she hadn't been forced to drop out before now, and she sure as hell didn't want to flunk now. Even as it was, she knew it would be near impossible to get into a good collage, her marks were so bad, but she guessed she could always hope for a miracle.

Kagome was actually, somewhat surprised that the school was not locked up already. Still, she wasn't going to complain, as she hurried to her locker and pulled out her biology book. She had just closed her locker and was about to leave when a voice behind her startled her.

“Well, well, well.” A deep male voice said coldly. “Look what we have here.”

Kagome gasped in fear. She knew that voice. As she turned around, and saw what was behind her, her already white faced paled even more. Standing behind her were Kano Saito and four of his cronies. She knew Kano Saito by reputation, though so far she had been spared any contact with him except a English class where he would sit in the back and basically ignore the world. For this, Kagome was grateful.

Kano Saito was the son of Ryu Saito, the Tokyo Chief of Police, but he didn't act like one would expect a boy in his position to. Kano was a troublemaker and a punk. He and his four friends - who followed his very order like obedient little puppies wanting to please their master - had together had more detention this year that the rest of their year level combined. Still, they'd never gotten into any real trouble and were for the most part considered pretty harmless.

That was until early last month, when Kano's ex-girlfriend, Akina, came out and accused him of raping her. No one had believed her, thinking that the son of the Police Chief wouldn't do such a thing, even if he was currently going through what most considered to be simply a rebellious stage. That, plus the fact that Kano had broken up with her only the week before, had lead most to believe that Akina had simply made up the story to get back at Kano for dumping her. Personally, Kagome hadn't thought Akina would be the type to do such a thing, but knowing all too well what a bitter emotion jealousy could be after suffering through two years of the Kagome-Inuyasha-Kikyo love triangle, Kagome was willing to accept that theory.

But then, two weeks ago, another girl, this one a year younger and with, as far as Kagome knew, no connection to Kano and his friends whatsoever, had come out to claim the same thing. Or so Kagome had heard. She didn't even know whom the second girl was, and no charges had been filled. Eri and Yuka had been openly expressing the opinion that the second girl didn't really exist and was just a another rumour Akina had come up with to try and hurt Kano. With no proof either way, Kagome had decided she didn't want to jump to any conclusions as to what Kano was or wasn't capable of.

But here, looking at them now, Kagome was jumping all right. The looks on Kano's face and the faces of his followers said it all. Not only were they capable of rape, but they were willing and, at that moment, eager.

And here Kagome was, alone with them. Suddenly, Kagome found herself desperately wishing she had listened to Inuyasha and not come back this time. Or at least that he would come looking for her. Now.

###

Inuyasha sat in the Sacred Tree at the shrine, worrying about where Kagome was and when she was coming home. Not that he would ever admit that he was worried, of course. And not like he had any reason to be worried, she was probably just out with those girls she was friends with in her time, completely inconsiderate to the fact that he was here waiting for her. And why should he worry anyway, it wasn't like he cared about her or anything.

Oh, who was he kidding, he was worried. And he did care about her, more than cared, he loved her. Inuyasha had realized a long time ago that he no longer carried any feelings for Kikyo beyond friendship and the desire to see her find peace. Kagome on the other hand, he truly loved. She was the most frustrating, irritating, stubborn, beautiful, kind, wonderful person he had even met, and he wanted nothing more than to spend his life by her side.

That was why he hated her school so much. Every time she went back there, it was like she shouted in his ear `I'm not staying with you, once the Jewel is completed I'm leaving, I'm going home, and you'll never see me again'. It broke his heart, but he wanted her to be happy, so he let her go every time. He tried to keep putting on the act that he wanted her to stay only so they could find the Jewel Shards, that he didn't really care about her, but he knew it was running pretty thin by now. Miroku, Sango, Shippo and Kaede all knew he was in love with her, and he was pretty sure her family knew it too. So far, the only one who seemed unaware was Kagome herself, who was convinced he was still in love with Kikyo. He planned to keep it that way. He couldn't bear to hear her say that she only liked him as a friend. At least this way, when she finally left him for good, he'd be able to keep some of his pride intact.

Inuyasha sighed. Either way, right now he was getting worried. Kagome should have been back by now, even if she did decide to go out with her friends. Inuyasha looked up at the rain clouds threatening overhead, wondering if he should go looking for her. The only thing that had stopped him so far was the fact that last time he did that, she had sat him, and he knew that it hurt a lot more to be sat on that strange man-made stone they had in her time than it did to be sat on dirt. Still, maybe he could get away with it, seeing that it was going to rain and she being only human could get sick if she was caught out in it.

“Oh, fuck this.” Inuyasha muttered to himself as he stood up on the branch he had been sitting on. “The bitch is late enough, I'm going to find her.”

At that moment, Michiko Higurashi, Kagome's mother was on her way to the front of the Shrine to see if Kagome was home yet. She had for sometime now been unable to shake the feeling that something was wrong, though she had no idea what, save that it somehow involved her daughter. That feeling had intensified when a couple of minutes ago she had gotten a phone call from Kagome's friend Eri. Apparently, she and her daughter had gotten into an argument and her daughter had stormed off, and now Eri was ringing to apologise. This worried her because if what Eri said was true, and she had no reason to lie, then Kagome should have been home long before now.

Reaching the front of the Shrine and still not seeing Kagome, Michiko looked up at Sacred Tree. Far from being surprised by the flash of red and silver in the branches, she was relieved. Here was a guaranteed way to find her daughter and bring her back home. Just about to call up to Inuyasha and ask if he would mind looking for her, Inuyasha jumped out of the Tree and started running down the stairs and off in the direction of the school almost faster than her eyes could follow. Apparently the hanyou one step ahead of her.

He must have been waiting for her all this time and run out of patience Michiko mused, knowing full well the hanyou's personality. I wonder what took him so long?

Michiko breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that Inuyasha would be able find her daughter without any problems, he'd done it plenty of times before. She knew it was silly to worry over her daughter being a little late getting home from school when she was going to the past to fight demons every other week or more, but she just had a bad feeling she couldn't shake. She hoped her daughter was alright.

###

Kagome was anything but alright. Using speed acquired from two years of running from demons, she had managed to escape her attackers for a moment in the corridors and made it outside. It had been her hope that if she could just get outside, where there should be several after school activities going on, she would be safe. Surely they wouldn't want to do anything around so many witnesses. It was only after she got outside that she remembered that all after school activities had been canceled today, due to the chance of rain. To make things worse, she had come out on the side farthest from the street, meaning she had that much further to run to get to safety and was currently in the most isolated part of the school grounds. Still she had ran on, hoping that she could just outrun them long enough to get to the street.

Unfortunately, she wasn't fast enough and at the edge of the athletics' field she found herself tackled to the ground by Jiro Ando. Somewhere in the back of her mind, Kagome remembered that Jiro had won several prizes for cross-country running, but at that moment she couldn't really care less about that and put all her energy into trying to get away. By this time, the rest of the gang had arrived and were busy holding her down while they ripped at her clothes. Kagome screamed and Kano slapped her across the face, hard.

“Hey slut, shut up already, you know you want it.” He sneered as he pulled the blue scarf off her uniform and stuffed it in her mouth to gag her, before pulling out a pocketknife from somewhere and slicing open her top. He wasn't particularly careful either, and left several shallow cuts along her front. He then cut through the front of her bar and started roughly grabbing her breasts, smearing blood from where he had slashed her in process. The feeling of having her breasts handled so roughly, especially by a man such as him, was enough to make her want to cry out in pain or vomit.

Kagome was sobbing hysterically by this point as she continued to struggle in vain. This wasn't how she wanted her first time to be. If she couldn't get away, not only would she have to suffer being raped, but surely Inuyasha would never want her after this. She knew full well that women in his time were expected to remain pure until marriage, or they were thought to be without honor. She knew it was a fool's dream to hope he would choose her over Kikyo, but it wasn't impossible, at least not yet.

“Shouldn't we move inside or something?” The gang member holding her arms over her head, whose name escaped her at the moment, said as he looked at the clouds overhead. “It looks like it's going to rain.” He added, as if getting a little wet was his biggest worry. It probably was, Kagome realized. He had absolutely no moral problems with raping her and didn't think he would get into any kind of trouble if they did. This was really happening, they weren't going to stop. With that realization, Kagome's already cold blood turned to ice.

“Nah, it should hold off until we're done.” Kano said calmly. “Beside, the rain will help wash away any evidence, just in case the slut here decides to tell the police. Not that you will, will you sweetheart?” He added with another sneer as he flipped up her skirt and ripped her panties off. Kagome let out another scream through the gag.

Kagome continued struggling, hoping for a miracle, right up till the point where Kano plunged into her up till the hilt. Kagome screamed as loud as she could through the gag. If she wasn't hysterical before, she certainly was now. It felt like she had been ripped open with a knife, and the pain just kept coming as he kept pulling out and plunging back in as hard and as fast as he could. Still she kept fighting, wanting to pass out, die, anything just to make it all go away, make it over.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, she felt something warm rush up inside her, and she realized Kano had just released. In some back part of her mind, she prayed to anyone, Buddha, the Kami, anyone who was listening, that she wouldn't get pregnant with her rapist's child.

With a laugh, Kano pulled out of her and moved away.

“You know, you're actually a damn good fuck.” He said as he stood up and pulled his pants back up. “I should have done you ages ago.”

Kagome wasn't really listening, she was just glad it was over. But just as she was thinking to herself Thank Kami I got through it, she heard Kano say, “Well, Jiro, you're the one that caught her, you should have the honor of having a go next.” She realized then that the ordeal wasn't even close to being over, and started crying again (not that she'd ever really stopped).

Inuyasha. She thought desperately as Kano and Jiro switched places and Jiro started undoing his pants. Where are you?

###

At that exact moment, Inuyasha arrived at the school, sniffing around almost desperately. He had hoped he would be able to find Kagome on her way home and that all this concern would be for nothing. But as he had got closer and closer to the school, and still found no trace of her, his fear had grown until it was almost over-whelming. Where the hell was she? If it turned out after all this that she was fine, and just stopped to go shopping somewhere or something, he would…

I would be hard pressed not to cry from relief. Inuyasha finished in his own mind, even though he had no intention of actually crying if it turned out she was. By this stage, he was almost certain that something was very wrong, but he prayed his instincts were mistaken. He was out the front of the school now, trying to sniff through the huge array of smells that had gathered there to find the one he was searching for, with little luck.

Just then, the wind changed, bringing the scent he had feared to smell to him from the back of the school, near all those large fields and courts he knew were used for various sports. It was the smell of Kagome's blood.

With a growl composed of equal parts anger and fear, Inuyasha took off in the direction of the smell. The growl increased in volume as he got closer and more smells assaulted him, giving him a clearer picture of what was happening. He desperately prayed he was wrong as he continued running frantically towards the fields, spurred on by the smells of Kagome's blood, tears and fear, along with several unknown human males and lust.

Please, not Kagome! He begged any gods that were listening.

However, despite his prayers, the scene he arrived at was one he knew would haunt his nightmares for centuries to come. There was his beautiful Kagome, practically naked and covered in blood, being held down by four different human males while a fifth was busy violating her. At least one other - he could tell by the smell - had already raped her and if the reek of lust hadn't made it obvious that the others were simply waiting their own turn, the looks on their faces made it perfectly clear.

Inuyasha felt his rage rising within him as he took in the scene before him. Despite the fact that he still held Tetsusaiga, his eyes bleed red as his anger caused his youki to rise. NO ONE was allowed to hurt HIS Kagome, especially like that!

With a roar of pure rage, he ran forward. Before the humans had a chance to turn around or even fully realise what was happening, Inuyasha had already grabbed the one currently violating his precious Kagome and yanked him off her. Quickly turning around he used his claws to rip out the boy's throat. He watched for a moment as the boy fell to the ground, choking on his own blood as he tried to continue to breathe, before turning to the others.

After seeing their companion die such a violent death at the hands of this unknown assailant, the others had jumped up and tried to run away, suddenly reeking of pure terror. They didn't get far as Inuyasha went after them, killing three of them before they even had a chance to scream, then jumping in front of and blocking the escape of the fourth and last one. Inuyasha could tell this was the other one to rape Kagome, and fully intended to make sure his death was as painful as it could be.

Seeing Inuyasha suddenly in front of him, blood on his hands and a look on his face that promised him a slow death, Kano couldn't help himself and wet his pants. The acid smell of urine reached Inuyasha's nose but he ignored it as his prey backed up quickly. Kano pulled his small knife back out and held in front of him, knowing he was not strong enough to stop the man (for lack of a better word) in front of him, but hoping it would slow his attacker down long enough for him to get away.

It didn't slow Inuyasha down in the least. Without even blinking, Inuyasha severed the hand holding the puny knife before jumping forward and grabbing the boy by the throat. The boy's screams, loud as they were at losing his hand, were nothing as Inuyasha ripped open his stomach and pulled out his intestines. He let the boy scream for nearly a full minute before, with a mercy he didn't feel, he snapped his neck and ended his suffering.

Dropping the body, Inuyasha's youki receded as the need for vengeance was satisfied. Looking down at the body at his feet, caught up in the confusion that always came after transforming back from his Youkai form, Inuyasha felt a short flash of guilt and grief before the smells around him entered his consciousness and he remembered what he had seen when he arrived. His guilt instantly abolished, he ran to Kagome's side to see if she was alright, knowing full well the answer was no.

By the time Inuyasha had arrived, Kagome was unaware of what was happening in her hysteria. As soon as she had felt Jiro get off her and realised she was no longer being held down, she had curled herself into ball, wincing at the pain and praying that it was really over. She didn't care what happened now, as long as they left her alone. Suddenly, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Fearing they were back and about to start again, she screamed through the gag she was still wearing.

“Kagome, it's me!” A very familiar voice said, as the gag was gently removed. “You're safe now, I promise.”

Kagome blinked up at the man above her, barely able to believe that it was really him, that he'd really come for her. “Inuyasha?” She asked, her voice slightly hoarse after all her screaming and crying.

“Yes, Kagome, it's me.” He said as he gently wrapped her nearly naked form up in his haori. A quick look at her cuts had told him that none were life threatening, though some he feared were likely to scar and all needed to be treated. But right now, he felt it more important to get her out of here and somewhere safe.

“Inuyasha.” Kagome cried, as she buried her face in his chest and started sobbing hysterically. It was really him, she was safe now. Inuyasha wouldn't let anyone else hurt her.

As she continued to cry, Inuyasha gently picked her up bridal style and started running back towards the Shrine. He knew that he should probably do something about the bodies, that in this time such things would likely cause trouble later on. But right now he couldn't bring himself to care. All his thoughts were on the sobbing creature in his arms. How dare someone do this to Kagome?! She was the kindest, most pure-hearted person in the world, in either time. She didn't deserve this, no one did. As Inuyasha ran, he cursed himself over and over for not coming sooner. He had sensed that something wasn't right, he knew that Kagome shouldn't have been gone so long. Why hadn't he gone looking for her? If he had, this never would have happened, she would have been safe at home. He was meant to protect her, but look at what he had let happen!

Inuyasha was so deep in his self-blame, that he almost didn't realize he had reached the Shrine. As usual, he jumped in through Kagome's open window, thinking she wouldn't want her brother or grandfather to see her this way. He gently put her down on the bed and tried to leave to get her mother. However, as soon as he tried to move away from her, she clutched his shirt tighter and started to cry once again.

“Shh.” Inuyasha soothed, gently running his fingers through her hair. “Kagome it's alright, I'll be right back, I'm just going to get your mother, okay? You're cuts need to be cleaned.” After a long moment, Kagome released him, and fell back onto her bed, still crying. His heart wrenching at the thought of leaving her like that, Inuyasha nevertheless knew her mother was needed and didn't want to have to shout, as he feared that might make things even worse than they already were. With those thoughts in mind, Inuyasha hurried downstairs, intent on getting to Michiko and bringing her back upstairs as quickly as possible.

Inuyasha found her in the kitchen, in the middle of making dinner, a slightly worried look on her face, which he assumed was because she didn't yet know what had happened to her daughter. Inuyasha felt something twist painfully inside him with the knowledge that he had to tell her such news.

Michiko looked up at Inuyasha standing in the doorway and smiled at him before she noticed the look on his face, and her smiled fell. Something was wrong, something had happened to her baby. She knew it.

“What happened?” She asked, her voice barely as whisper, as if she feared to hear his answered. But she knew she must.

“She, at her school, when I got there…” Inuyasha stuttered for a moment, before he gathered his courage and looked Michiko in the eye. Putting off telling her wouldn't make this go away, and Kagome needed their help, now. “She was raped.” He said, his voice barely above a whisper, unable to manage anything louder. He felt his heart twist painfully, it was the first time he had said that out loud, and the words hurt.

Michiko gasped at him, her eyes begging him to tell her she had heard wrong. For a moment she starred at him in shock and horror, before her eyes took on a determined, angry look and she span around. Mere seconds later, she had the family's extra large first aid kit in her hands as she hurried past him and up the stairs. “Follow me.” She said shortly as she hurried up to her daughter's room.

Inuyasha followed, his ears plastered to his head in shame. He would not blame Michiko in the least if after today she forbid him from even seeing her daughter again. He had failed her in the worst possible way, and he would never forgive himself for that.

Inuyasha and Michiko entered Kagome's room to find her still crying on the bed. It took a while, but eventually they managed to get Kagome to agree to have her injuries treated and to being cleaned up. Kagome didn't say anything the whole time, she was too ashamed. Slut, that was what Kano had kept calling her, and that was what she was. A slut. She should have been more careful, she should have been quicker, stronger, anything! This should never have happened. Inuyasha would never want her now, no one would. They should have just killed her.

“Do you know the man who did this?” Her mother's voice broke through her self-hatred.

“Men.” Kagome said quietly after a long moment. “Kano Saito, and his band of cronies. I don't know how many actually raped me, I blacked out after Jiro started.” She couldn't look at them, couldn't bear to see the disgust and disappointment she was sure was in their eyes.

“Two.” Inuyasha said, his voice filled with barely controlled rage. “Only two, I could tell by the smell.” Kagome felt little relief at that, it was still two too many.

Michiko took a deep breath, trying to contain the rage she felt at those men. How dare they do this to her little girl?!

“I'm calling the police.” Michiko said in a voice that broke no argument.

“No!” Kagome cried in fear. “You can't! Kano Saito is the son of Ryu Saito, the CHIEF OF POLICE. No one will believe me if I do tell, they didn't believe the other girls did either.”

“Other girls?” Michiko and Inuyasha demanded at the same time. What other girls?

Kagome bit her lip and looked away. “The rumour around school is that Kano's ex-girlfriend Akina accused him of raping her last month. Another girl said the same thing a couple of weeks ago too, but no one seems to know who she is, only that she's a year younger.”

“Why didn't you tell me?” Michiko and Inuyasha demanded at the same time again, though Inuyasha added the words `the hell' and `fucking' to his sentence. Neither could believe Kagome had kept the fact that there were rapists in her school from them and simply continued to go.

Kagome felt tears fill her eyes. How could she be so stupid? “I didn't know whether the rumors were true or not until today. Kano dumped Akina a week before she accused him and everyone just assumed she said it to get him back. And like I said, no one knows who the other girl is, some people think she doesn't even exist.” She said, ashamed at such a weak excuse. She wouldn't blame them if they hated her after this, she would deserve it for being such a fucking idiot. She should have told them when she heard the first rumours, then none of this would have happened.

Michiko was filled with rage, but not with her daughter and not with Inuyasha, whom she was sure was blaming himself for this. No, her rage was directed solely towards the men who had violated her baby and others she didn't even know, and the society that had allowed this to happen. Well, never again, she vowed.

“I'm calling the police.” Michiko said firmly. “If something isn't done, they'll just keep doing this to other girls. I don't care who I have to go to or how far, I'm making sure the charges stick this time.” Kagome bit her lip, she hadn't thought of that. They would just keep doing it, wouldn't they? They certainly had no problems raping her and they didn't even know her.

“What are these `police'?” Inuyasha demanded. He did not fully understand what Michiko was talking about, but he was enraged that those boys had apparently got away with raping two other girls because one of them of the son of their chief.

“Police are people we have in this time whose job is to uphold the law and capture lawbreakers.” Michiko explained. “At least they're supposed to.” She added grimly, clearly as upset as he was about the earlier crimes going unpunished.

“You don't need to call them.” Inuyasha said grimly. “They won't hurt anyone else ever again. I've already taken care of that.”

It took Michiko all of two seconds to understand Inuyasha's meaning, Kagome even less time. Michiko knew that normally she would probably have been horrified at the thought of Inuyasha killing humans, but in this case all she felt was a wave of grim satisfaction. She knew that even if they did call the police, there was no guarantee that they wouldn't simply be released. She also knew that Kagome's worry that people wouldn't believe her due to Kano's father was justified, though she had also meant what she had said. She would have found a way to make sure the charges stuck, somehow.

“There could be trouble later, if you left the bodies somewhere they could be found.” Michiko said simply.

Inuyasha nodded in understanding, a little surprised that Michiko apparently had so little problem with the idea of him killing. But then again, they were the men who had attacked and raped her only daughter, so… “I know.” He said. “I would have taken care of it already, but Kagome needed help more at the time.”

Michiko nodded, before turning back to her daughter. “Kagome.” She said hesitantly. “Do you remember those pills I gave you when you first started going to the Feudal Era? Do you still have them?”

Kagome, after trying for a moment to figure out what her mother was talking about, nodded in what was almost relief. She completely forgotten she even had them until now. “They're in the first aid kit I bring back with me.” She said. “I've never had to use them.”

Michiko looked relieved and asked Inuyasha if he could get the first-aid kit out of Kagome's huge yellow backpack, which was currently sitting in the corner of the room. Wondering what they were talking about, Inuyasha grabbed the first aid kit and brought it back over. Michiko opened it and pulled out a small bottle of pills Inuyasha couldn't remember having seen before, despite the fact that Kagome had said she'd been bringing them back with her for the last two years. Kagome took one and swallowed it dry.

“What are those?” Inuyasha asked, wondering at the smell of relief both Kagome and Michiko felt at the sight of the pills.

“Morning after pills.” Michiko said softly. “I hoped she'd never have to use them, and never thought she'd have to use them in this time.” When she saw that Inuyasha still looked confused she added. “If a woman takes them within a few days of having sex, they stop her from getting pregnant.” Inuyasha's eyes widen slightly at the knowledge that such a thing was possible, though he did understand mother and daughter's relief. To carry the child of your rapist…

“You're not going back to that school ever again.” Inuyasha said firmly after a minute. “Never again. I don't care what I have to do, it's not safe if this kind of thing can happen there, and nobody tried to stop it.”

“But…” Kagome started, although she didn't really want to object. Truthfully the thought of going back there scared the shit out of her.

“No buts.” Surprisingly, it wasn't Inuyasha who said that but Michiko. “Inuyasha's right. Whether those boys were charged or not, those rumours alone should have been enough for the school to do something, but instead they just turned a blind eye. And if this happened on school grounds and no one tried to help you, that's a whole other reason why that school just isn't safe. I'm calling that school in the morning and formally pulling you out. I'd do it right now, if it wasn't for the fact that chances are no one's there to take the call at the moment, late as it is.” Inuyasha flashed Michiko a look of gratitude. He had feared she would want her daughter to continue her schooling. He should have known she wouldn't want Kagome to return to a place she was raped anymore than he would.

With considerable private relief, Kagome nodded. The stress of the afternoon was taking its toll on her, and she wanted nothing more than to go to sleep.

“Sleep, Kagome.” Inuyasha said gently noticing how tired she was. “You're safe now, you can go to sleep if you want.” Kagome tried to smile as she lay down. As she drifted off to sleep, she thought she heard him add, “none of this is your fault, don't blame yourself, no one else does,” and a very small but real smile crossed her face as she slipped into a thankfully dreamless sleep.

###

About an hour later, Inuyasha dumped the last body down the well. Knowing full well he needed to get rid of the bodies, and figuring this to be the best way to do that, he had dragged them all back here. He had brought them two at a time, to be left in the well house while he went back and grabbed the others. Kano's had been the last body to bring back, being in the worst shape. Now that he had finally brought them all and dumped them down the well, he jumped in after them. The sooner he got rid of these reminders of the brutal attack on Kagome, the better. Besides, he had to tell the others that Kagome wouldn't be coming back for a while.

Inuyasha had just pulled the last body back out of the well on his side, when Miroku, Sango, Kirara and Shippo all came running up in full battle mode. They had been waiting for Inuyasha to bring Kagome back all afternoon, and when Shippo declared that he could suddenly smell the strong reek of human blood coming from near the well, they had feared the worst and came running. When they saw Inuyasha there, surrounded by the bodies of young men apparently from Kagome's time and with blood still on his hands, they didn't quite know what to think.

“Inuyasha.” Sango said hesitantly. She had never seen that look of pure rage on his face directed at anyone other than Naraku, and it scared her.

Inuyasha looked at his friends. Realizing he was scaring them with his silence (not to mention the dead bodies) he spoke up. “They attacked Kagome at her school.” He said, his voice cold. “I couldn't just leave the bodies there for her people to find, it could cause problems for Kagome and her family later, so a brought them here.”

While Sango was still staring at Inuyasha and Shippo was hiding behind her - for the first time truly afraid of the hanyou when he wasn't transformed - Miroku was studying the bodies. They were all young men, about the same age as Kagome. They were all wearing similar clothes, which Miroku assumed to be the male version of Kagome's `school uniform'. He noticed right away they had been killed fairly quickly, using only his claws, though one had been disemboweled and had his hand removed, and Miroku feared it looked like it was done before the poor boy was dead. Just as he was wondering what would cause such rage in his friend, he noticed something that made his blood run cold. One of the boys, who had had his throat ripped out, had his pants undone. Could that mean…

“Inuyasha.” Miroku said, his voice grim. He couldn't bear to ask the question on his mind, and so once he had the hanyou attention, he gestured towards the boy's opened pants. Seeing what Miroku was gesturing at, Inuyasha recognized the question and looking Miroku in the eye, nodded grimly. Sango, confused, looked to see what the boys were focused on, and could help but gasp as the same realization came to her.

“Shippo, go back to the village.” Sango said harshly. She had questions for Inuyasha, and the kit didn't need to hear them.

“But…” Shippo started. He was confused and scared and wanted to know what was going on.

“Now!” Sango snapped, her voice harder than Shippo had ever heard it. Shippo jumped, but did head toward the village, wondering what on Earth was going on.

As soon as Inuyasha was sure Shippo was far enough away that he wouldn't be able to hear, Inuyasha spoke up knowing what they wanted to know. It hurt to bring up such memories, but he knew they had to know.

“Kagome was late coming home from school, so I went looking for her.” Inuyasha said harshly, but quietly. He couldn't look them in the eye, and was clenching his fists so hard his own claws were puncturing his skin. “When I got to her school she was being held down by these four,” he waved his hand at Kano and the three unnamed assailants, “while he,” here he gestured at Jiro, “was raping her. She'd already been raped by that one.” Here he once again gestured at Kano. “It was also pretty clear that the others were simply waiting a turn.”

At least that explains why that body is in such worse shape, a detached part of Miroku's mind noted. Most of him was too busy being horrified and furious at Inuyasha's story to think clearly.

Sango was seeing red. How dare these vermin do that to her little sister?! Before she had been horrified at their injuries, but now she felt Inuyasha had been too lenient.

“How's Kagome?” Miroku asked, dreading the answer.

Inuyasha sighed. “About as well as can be expected, I guess.” He said grimly. “She was hysterical when I found her, she didn't recognize me at first. I took her home and her mother and I treated her injuries. They cut her up pretty bad while cutting off her shirt. Her mother also gave her some kind of medicine that's supposed to stop her from getting pregnant. She was so stressed out from her ordeal that she fell asleep not long after I got her home. I've got to get back there after I'm done getting rid of these vermin. I don't want to have to leave her alone for too long.”

“Don't worry about these Inuyasha.” Sango said, somewhat coldly. “We can take care of them. You just get back to Kagome. I have the feeling she needs you right now.” Miroku nodded his agreement.

Inuyasha was grateful, not wanting to be away from Kagome in case she woke up and needed him for anything. With a quick thanks, he jumped down the well and returned to the twenty-first century.

As he left the well house and headed back to the house, the rain that had been threatening all afternoon finally fell.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Please note, my understanding of morning-after-pills is limited, so I apologise if I got something wrong in relation to their usage, though seeing that they only played such a small part in his chapter, I doubt that will be much of a problem.
