The other reviewers have touched on a lot of technical aspects of this piece, all of which I agree with. I'm also going to add on a couple of more advanced points: 1) When working with compositions for an image like this, you really want to draw the viewer's eye to the interaction between the couple. To do that, you need more active engagement between them - as Fanilia said, having InuYasha holding her more closely, as well as including more direct line-of-sight between InuYasha's eyes and Kikyo's face. Also, the way you've done the background and the shading on the clothing suggests that you're going for a more realistic look with your work - to do that, you need to blend the line art seamlessly, including in the face. It makes a very unique but sometimes unsettling image with anime-styled art; anime proportions are not the same as life proportions, so when you color and shade them realistically they look very alien. Try experimenting both with more realistic shading in the face, as well as more anime-like shading through the entire piece to see which style you are more comfortable with. You already mentioned that you're working on the line art, so it's obvious that you're still developing your style. Keep working at it!

All in all I like the picture. I think the background is good and the characters' placement is nice. The thing I would suggest changing is how Inuyasha is looking at Kikyou. Inuyasha seems like he's looking at a point just slightly past Kikyou instead of down at her face/head. Now Fanilia mentioned something about focal point. One of the things I notice everytime I look at your picture is that my focus is drawn between the characters and the moon . . . go figure :-). The moon really stands out a lot and seems to have a presence of it's own right along with the characters. I'm not saying this is bad . . . it's actually interesting and kind of adds something to the pic. . . but if your aim is to have the viewers focus just primarily on the characters perhaps you should follow what Fanilia said or make the moon look more distant. At any rate, keep up the good work soliary. I look forward to seeing more of your drawings. (^_^)

You already mentioned your line art, so you already are working on it to improve. The iamge is nice, I do however agree with abyss on Kikyou's lack of expression. She doesn't look dead. Her upper chest also looks too thin. I know she is being held by Inuyasha, but since you can see both breasts it also suggests he is not holding her close. The background takes up too much of the image. The characters are drowning in it. I think making Inuyasha and Kikyou the vocal poitn with the moon just over Inuyasha's shoulder would look nice.~Fanilia

I like the shading job you did for this, especially on the clothing. The expression on Inuyasha's face conveys a lot of emotion but the look on Kikyo's face isn't very consistant with the overall mood of the piece. Silver touched upon a lot of the technical stuff, but I guess I should mention the lighting effects in this image. It doesn't look like there are any definitive light sources, it's hard to tell where the source of light is coming from even though there's a big moon in the background. Since the background is night-themed, their clothing should have darker shades, especially Kikyo's white outfit.

You've got a nice piece here, but there are areas to improve. Firstly, both Inuyasha's and Kikyo's clothing look odd. It might help to study how clothing will lay/fall against the body and how it falls away from the body as well... you have folds and shadows but they don't seem to make any sense. Also, the shading on the hair looks odd. IY's looks okay, but Kikyo's is weird--why is her hair lighter closer to her neck where (I think) it would be darker? The highlights themselves are okay, I just think they need to be moved much lower because Kikyo's head will cast a shadow on her hair. The moon appears to be behind the couple, so remember where your light source is in relation to the characters. It makes the shading much more realistic when you do that. And while the moon looks cool, we can't actually SEE the dark side of the moon from where we stand on earth, heh. Despite the minor nit-pick with the moon, the background looks great and I really like how you placed the characters to the side of the image, leaving a lot of negative space--it makes the piece more interesting than the average fanart. Finally, your shading looks great, but don't be afraid to get more dramatic with it, and even make the colors look 'washed-out' since it's harder to see colors in dim light (like at night). It's still a good piece overall, so keep up the great work and thanks for submitting to FARG! ^_^
