"I listen to the important things," he told her. Leaning down, Matthew pressed his lips lightly hers. Letting her taste him for only a moment before he pulled back.
Alice snorted. "That sucked," she said honestly. Leaning up, she pulled his shirt to her roughly, making him moved forward. His lips met hers and she deepened the kiss, nibbling and tasting. Her body felt like it was on fire.
His eyes widened as he was suddenly and roughly pulled against her so that she could kiss and taste him. He was so accustomed to her being child like, that whenever she had her moments of relative clarity it was weird for him. This was no exception as he felt her pull against him, her lips washing over him as she hungrily tasted him. He wanted to stop this at once, but of course he didn't. He enjoyed it.
Alice mover her hands to his shoulders and brought herself closer to him, pushing tightly against him, leaving no gap. His lips were soft and his chest hard. She couldn't help herself as her tongue slid into his mouth, lightly exploring everything.
He couldn't believe that he was allowing this to go on. She was a patient! His hands went to her hips so that he could push her away, but instead as her tongue pushed its way into his mouth he just left them there while his tongue swirled around hers to taste her.
She moved one hand to his cheek and shifted on her feet. Every inch of her knew that the feelings she was having were beyond anything she had felt before. Yes, she was attracted to him. And yes, she wished that he wasn't off limits. Yet, at the moment, he didn't seem to care.
He moved back, slowly sitting down on his bed while pulling her with him. He had to stop this, but she was so sweet, so innocent, so...so.... He bit her lip softly as she kissed him. "You're my patient," he whispered. "This is wrong."
She looked at him, her face flushed. "A lot of things in this world are wrong," she whispered.
"No," he said, trying to compose himself. "This world is right. It keeps me sane."
She shook her head. "You keep saying that, but it's not true. I can see it in your eyes."
"See what?"
She placed her hand on his cheek, her thumb running over his face. "The madness. You're a Mad Hatter."
"I'm not mad," he repeated calmly. What part of that didn't she understand. "And I'm certainly no Mad Hatter." He didn't even own a hat.
"Though you deny it, it's plain to see. I know the Mad Hatter like the back of my hand and the more I watch you, the more you speak, the more I see pieces of him in you. Though you are not my Mad Hatter, you are a Mad Hatter," she said softly. "You don't see it because you have never seen my Mad Hatter. But I can assure you...it's not hard for me to mistake you for him."
"You're foolish," he whispered. "But I will allow you to have these delusions of me." He reached up and fixed his glasses, pushing his hair out of the way in the process.
"Sometimes my delusions are true," she reminded him. Pulling her hand from him, she looked down at her lap. "Mr. Hatter...I know you feel the connection between us."
He cleared his throat, and fixed his hair. "I am uncertain what you speak of. Truly, you are a beautiful young lady, but you are also my patient."
He irritated her. "Fine. If you want to play pretend then I'll play."
He rolled his eyes at this. "You do that so well already." Standing, he fixed his clothes. "You are beautiful. Sweet. Kind. Innocent." The list went on but he decided to end it there. She was also crazy.
"You left out your favorite," she pointed out with hard eyes. "You forgot to say I am crazy," she snapped. Standing, she grabbed her rabbit. "I know my way back to my room. I'm sure you have better things to do." She walked out of his room and back to the halls. Taking a few turns, she ignored the screamed of other patients and walked to her room. After walking in, she slammed the door behind her.
"Oh yes, because a perfectly sane person would storm off like that." He grinned as she left. Rolling his eyes, he started out of his room. He started off on his round, stopping only to order someone to take Alice some food. He didn't want her starving.
Alice sat at her window like she usually did when her mind was clear. She stared out at the meadow while one hand hugged her rabbit and the other held onto one of the bars on her window. Her door opened but she didn't turn to see who it was. She could smell food. "Take it back. I'm not hungry," she said as she kept her eyes on the window.
"I'm afraid that the grumpy doctor won't like it very much when I tell him that."
Alice turned to the sound of Mr. Cat's voice. "If I had known it was you bringing me the food I would have been a little nicer," she said with a soft smile. "If it makes him mad, then I definitely don't want to eat."
"And why is that?" He walked over to her bed and sat down on it with her food tray sitting beside him.
She stood and walked over to him, sitting on his other side. "Kinda want him to suffer a bit. Or at least piss him off."
"And why exactly is that?" He began playing with her hair.
"He's denying things that are true...and he knows they are true," she said. She leaned her head against him. "I don't think I'm ever going to get out of this place and the only people I socialize with are you and him and yet he makes it so hard to even like him."
He smirked as he heard this. "Well, he can be rather thick headed. Give him time, Alice. Even a mind as great as his has its limits."
"If that is what you call a great mind then I'm terrified to know what you think of me, Mr. Cat," she said against him.
"You're a very special girl, Alice. It is a shame that you have been locked up here so long. Really, you're about as sane as the rest of us."
She smiled at that. "I tried to explain that to the good doctor and he once more called me delusional."
Mr. Cat laughed at that. "He sees things as black and white. Logical or not. He thinks it’s his personal crusade to end the madness."
"He's full of himself," she said rolling her eyes. "Take the food back and tell him I said to shove it."
"If that's what you want, I won't make you eat it. Though he did personally request that I add a tea cake to your meal."
Alice looked at the tray. Tea cake? How sweet... Shaking her head she looked at Mr. Cat. "Would it be too much to ask you to throw it at his face?"
He laughed and ruffled her hair. "Yes, I believe it would."
She groaned. "Then just take it back and tell him that I don't need him to visit tonight."
"I will, but I doubt that will stop him from visiting anyways," he told her with a coy smirk.
"If I could lock my door from the inside, I would."
Mr. Cat pouted and looked at her. "Seriously, what's caused you to be so upset?" He was afraid that she was going to do something because of what the twins had done. It had only been a day, yet she seemed perfectly find about it.
"We kissed and he denied feelings for me," she said honestly. "And you can tell him I told you. Hope it ticks him off."
"You kissed?" He shook his head slowly. "That's bad. Even for him that's really bad."
She nodded. "Yeah, I know. But it's not as bad as me being raped. So as far as I'm concerned, it's the highlight of my time here."
"Well, if it makes you feel better, the twins haven't been heard of since then. Matthew scared them away and they're never coming back," he told her. He still couldn't believe that Matthew had kissed her. She was a patient!
"It doesn't settle my nerves," she said honestly. "I feel a lot safer when he's around. Maybe it's because he reminds me so much of my Mad Hatter. Or maybe it's because I feel like he's a little mad himself...I believe if he didn't try so hard, he could really understand me the way he wants to," she whispered. She pushed her hair behind her ears. "I still hear their laughs...the twins." Taking a deep breath, she looked at him. "Don't tell him, ok? He'll think I want to kill myself or something."
"You wouldn't want to kill yourself, would you, Alice?"
Alice shook her head. "No. Not anymore."
Mr. Cat smiled at that. "Good!" Picking up her tray, he smiled and left the tea cake on her bed. "In case you get hungry before dinner."
She smiled. "What would he say if he knew I opened up to you and not to him? He would be so...jealous," she said. Yes, he was a lot like her Mad Hatter.
Mr. Cat just gave her a toothy grin. "Yes, he probably would. But that's the fun of all of this."
She nodded. "I wish you could go to Wonderland...I think you would be shocked at how much you and him would fit in."
He smirked and nodded. "From the way you describe it, I would love to go to Wonderland. I've always thought it would be fun to have kitty ears." He winked at her, taking her tray he exited her room, shutting her door behind him.
"She didn't eat I take it?" Mathew was walking by and he eyed her tray.
"No, it seems she wasn't hungry," Mr. Cat told him.
Matthew huffed and shook his head. "She's so stubborn."
"Yes, she's a great deal like you."
Alice looked at the tea cake. She sat back on her bed, pushing her back against her headboard. The silence in her room was nerve wrecking. She had never really noticed it before but now that she had something to fear, she noticed everything, every sound, every silence, every shadow.
Matthew opened up her door. He kept his eyes on his notepad as he wrote. "Why didn't you eat?"
"Why don't learn to knock?" she countered.
"I don't have to knock," he told her bluntly.
"What if I was naked?"
"Why on earth would you be naked?"
"It's my room. I can be naked if I want to."
"Well, if you were naked I would still walk in. If my other patients are naked it doesn't bother me. So you being unclothed wouldn't bother me either."
She took that as a dare. Standing up, she took off her hospital gown. "God forbid the crazy people to have privacy."
He looked up as her gown came off. Swallowing hard, he focused on his supposed work. "You're not crazy," he muttered as he looked back up at her, his eyes trailing over her body. "You just...suffer from delusions. There's a difference."
"Do you have any other teenage girl patients?" she smirked as her hands went to her hips. She watched his eyes swim over her. She knew she was the youngest girl in the institution out of all three girls there. "I'm sure it's very different than seeing your male patients unclothed."
"I'll admit, that seeing you naked is far more distracting than seeing any of my other patients unclothed," he told her.
She grabbed the tea cake and threw it at him, smiling when it covered his face. Grabbing her gown she put it back on. "Yes, I think Mr. Cat needs to know that I feel a lot better now that I hit you with the tea cake."
He glared at her. Pushing the cake off his face, he frowned, his eyes darkening. "I would not suggest doing something like that ever again, Alice," he told her. "I give you many liberties. Liberties which can be taken away."
She shrugged. "Take them away. Life already sucks here anyways." Walking over to him, she licked his cheek to taste the cake. "It's better in Wonderland."
He shuddered as she licked the cake off, and he didn't move to stop her. "I'm sorry that the real world is not like your fantasy land."
Her eyes hardened. "It's not a fantasy! It's real!" she yelled. "If you came here to piss me off, you've done your job, now get the hell out!"
His face softened slightly. "I did not come here to upset you. Just to simply talk."
She sat back on her bed. "I'm done talking to you. You don't listen and you don't get it. I have more luck talking to a brick wall...or Mr. Cat. At least he knows to listen and he believes me."
He turned to her. "You talk to Mr. Cat?"
"He's easy to talk to. He doesn't ask a million questions and most importantly," she glared at him, "he listens and takes me seriously."
"I listen," he told her. He had an entire book devoted solely to her.
"Just sitting here and jotting crap down doesn't mean you listen," she pointed out. "Mr. Cat actually sits here with me and comprehends what I say. And he doesn't think I'm delusional."
Matthew set down his notebook and sat down in the chair. "Fine. Talk to me."
Alice laughed. "What do you expect me to do? Open my mouth and let things pour out? You must not have friends," she said. People don't just speak because someone says do it. "What do you want to know?"
"Tell me about your last visit to Wonderland," he told her.
She grew quiet for a moment. "I woke up at Mr. Hatter's tea party. We had tea then went to the White Rabbit's house because he's missing. Turned out...his house was burned down..." She let that settle in her heart for a minute before continuing. "The Mad Hatter said that most likely Tweedledum and Tweedledee had the White Rabbit held captive since they were now working for the Red Queen. So...we went to the dark forest to find them. We stopped and took a rest." Her cheeks were blazing. "I experienced my first sexual encounter...though...he did not take my innocence. We got into a fight...something about him and the others not being good for me and I ran from him." Tear welled up in her eyes. "I should have never ran because it was a short time after that the twins found me and raped me. But the Mad Hatter showed up." She quickly wiped her eyes. "He gave me a blade and told me that I had to finish it...so I did...I killed them."
"So, the twins raped you in Wonderland?" He tried to rationalize it as an out of body experience. Her revelation about the Hatter made him realize why she didn't want to leave his side earlier. "And you say that the Hatter, he ummm, did things to you?"
"We did things together. The Mad Hatter has always held a large portion of my heart from the moment I met him as a little girl. He gave me my first kiss and from that moment on I always knew I wanted to have him always." She stared out her bared window. "He's always been there for me. I've never had to worry about things as long as he was by my side. That night in the forest was the single most cherished moment in my life and I'll never forget it."
Alice snorted. "That sucked," she said honestly. Leaning up, she pulled his shirt to her roughly, making him moved forward. His lips met hers and she deepened the kiss, nibbling and tasting. Her body felt like it was on fire.
