Breathe Again
~Chapter 2: Letter from a friend~

Stay low
soft, dark, and dreamless
far beneath my nightmares and loneliness
I hate me
for breathing without you
I don't want to feel anymore for you

Katara sat at her mirror thinking to herself in silence as she ran her brush through her long loosened hair, she had been thinking about Toph a lot since the day before. She had concluded that her blind friend had probably been forced to leave against her will by her mother; she had run away after all… And she was guilty for having been so angry at her friend.

And for the past two days Katara had also been sure to steer clear of the Jasmine Dragon, she enjoyed talking with Jin but the girl had a way of digging in to her sore spots unintentionally. And since most of her stories were about her travels with the gang it was no surprise to her that it pained her so to speak to the easily excited waitress. Though of all the conversations she'd had with Jin her favorite was one that she knew would always make her laugh…
~Cue Flashback :D~

“So Katara… You keep mentioning a fire prince… Is he handsome?” Jin asked dreamily, Katara scoffed lightly. “Zuko? Handsome?! Maybe if he didn't act like someone had shoved a stick up his ass!”

Zuko's eyes widened as he heard his name followed by the water benders callous remark, he was slightly hurt by the way she described him so he slyly shifted closer to their table serving a nearby elderly couple more tea. “Uh… Sonny? We only have enough for one cup o' your delicious tea…” Zuko quickly nodded at him, “It's on the house sir, enjoy.” The old lady leapt from her seat and hugged Zuko warmly, “Oh you're such a kind young man! You remind me of my little Ryu when he was younger!!” She wailed happily his head pressed into her breasts, Zuko's eyes were wide in shock as he also managed to take notice that Katara and Jin where giggling at his awkward position.

Jin smirked at him and patted the seat next to her, “Was that fun, Lee?” She asked in a sarcastic tone, the young man was still red in the face and grumbling as he attempted to smooth out his ruffled robes. He mentally took note that his make up covered side of his face had possibly lost some of its cover in his attempt to wiggle free of the old woman's grasp. But as they say, curiosity killed the cat and Zuko decided he would risk getting caught in order to hear what the two girls had to say about his birth name.

“Loads… What are you talking about first of all… I don't really have time for breaks.” He mumbled grumpily, Jin smirk widened. “Oh just a dashingly handsome prince…” She said, Zuko was about to walk off acting as though his interest had gone out the window. “I was just telling Jin about Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation.

“Wasn't he the banished Prince?” He asked sitting down across from Katara, he felt odd asking questions about himself but there was also some thrill in it. “Yeah, he's a fiery jerk who only thinks about himself and his damn honor.” She said in an annoyed voice, Zuko felt the sting of her words, was that how he came off to others?

“…Maybe he's just misunderstood, I heard his father exiled him and burned his face.” He noticed that Katara's eyes widened but quickly realized it was not from pity, the two girls laughed slightly. “If his own dad exiled him then he really must be a bastard!” Jin laughed, Zuko forced himself to laugh along even though he knew it may have been his repayment for how he had treated the water bender and her friends in the past, her words and laughter stung like the very fire that had seared the horrible scar into the flesh of his once handsome face…
~End Flashback D: ~

Katara jumped as Momo landed on her head, his small purr as a hello told her that he was happy to see her, “Momo! Where have you been? I missed you!” She cried, hugging the little lemur to her and rubbing at his ear stalks gently.

Both she and Momo let out surprised squeaks as a rather loud knock came from the nearby door, “Um… Hold on, I'm coming!” Katara cried, leaping from her seat in front of the mirror and running to the large door. “Hello?” She questioned, a guard from the palace stood before her, a small scroll in his outstretched hand. “This letter is from the Kyoshi Warrior, Suki.” Katara nodded taking it from him, “Thank you, has there been any news of my other friends…?” She asked, he shook his head and stood waiting. “You are to return that miss, be quick about it if you will…” He said bluntly, her mouth formed a perfect “O” and she quickly unraveled the scroll.

Dear Katara,
I haven't had much time to talk with you since arriving in Ba Sing Se, and I have heard you have been out in the city, how about we go for tea some where? And maybe a little lunch, me and the girls need to get out of this stuffy palace, do you have a place? Just give the name and meet us there tomorrow around two.

You're friend, Suki
Katara quickly responded to the letter, her tea shop of choice was obviously the Jasmine Dragon, it would be nice to go back there and see Jin but she would also get to see Suki. It seemed to her as though things were finally starting to look up here in Ba Sing Se…
