Chapters three wait for the surprise ending of this chapter.
Rei was back in the Village Square looking food. Shopping for his stepfamily was so hard! He never knew what they wanted and always got it wrong. That always resulted in punishment. The worst was the whips and it seemed to be Olga's and Katia's favorite.
Bread, Rei thought solemnly, I have to find bread.
Rei went to the local bakery and found that it was closed for the rest of the day.
“Rei Kon?” a familiar voice asked, “Is that you?”
Rei turned sharply and found himself looking into the crimson eyes of Prince Hiwatari!
“Yes,” Rei said in slight surprise.
Kai was holding a basket full of freshly baked pastries and bread. He noticed that Rei was staring at the basket.
“Did I do something wrong?” Kai asked slyly.
“No,” Rei sighed, “Just depressed that the bakery is closed. My stepmother is going to be angry.”
Kai watched Rei bow his head and saw that he was trying not to cry. This was all very strange, Rei seemed like a happy person, now he looked so sad. It just didn't suit him at all.
“Here,” Kai said handing Rei his basket, “Take mine. I don't need it.”
Rei just looked at the basket in fear.
“I can't Prince Hiwatari,” he whispered, “These are yours.”
“First off, “ Kai began, “call me Kai, all the people I consider a friend do. Second, I'm giving them to you. Take them willingly or I will order you to take them.”
Rei nodded and said, “Thank you.”
Kai said, “You're welcome. Do you need help with anything?”
Rei paused and said, “I have to go home now P-“ he paused again. “I mean Kai. I'm sorry.”
Rei turned to go, but Kai grabbed his arm.
“Yes?” Rei asked.
“Will I see you again?”
Rei blushed. Prince Hiwatari wanted to see him again!
“Um…” Rei stuttered, “In two days, I will be by the butcher's shop at noon.”
Kai nodded and let Rei leave.
This is good, Kai thought as he went after Rei, to see where he lived, He said that he would see me again. I'm happy.
Kai watched as Rei walked into a good looking cottage and smiled slightly. He did what he came for. He had found out where Rei lived. Now, incase something happened to Rei, Kai knew who to let know.
“About time!” he heard a voice growl.
A young girl with purple hair grabbed the basket that Kai had given him, away and an older woman slapped him, hard.
“Bryan!” the older woman screeched, “Bring the whips!”
Wait, Kai thought, The whips?
Kai watched as the young girl led Rei to a tree and bound his hands over his head to the tree. He then saw whom he presumed to be Bryan, carry out three long whips. Each of them looked scarier than the other. One was a normal whips, one had spikes and the last was so thick that it could put a dent in an oak tree.
What do I do?
He saw Bryan take Rei's gray shirt off of him and touch his now bare shoulder.
Then, the older woman grabbed the thick whip and hit Rei with it.
With a sigh, Kai left, wondering what he was going to say to Rei the next time he would see him.
