Chapter Four
Rayne jumped down most of the steps, Kai running after her. At the last few she practically fell to the floor, but caught herself as nimble as a cat would. Kai helped her to standing, running through the door, Mimi stood outside with the others, Max holding her closely. She smiled sheepishly at how much he cared for her. Rayne gave a grateful smile, moved Max away, then slapped Mimi, having to be restrained quickly. Tears ran down her face and her palm tingled from her force, but she didn’t care. Mimi-among a few other people-stared at her disbelievingly, Rayne pulled herself away from Ray and Kai who were holding her back. She flung her arms around Mimi’s shoulders, sobbing loudly, Mimi smiled, her cheek smarting, and wrapped her arms around Rayne.
“I’m sorry…” she mumbled, going almost unnoticed under Rayne’s sobs.

Mimi jumped away as something hit the door on the other side. She let out a breath, hearing them yell again. A white bandage had been put over her cheek, and they had migrated to AFK’s apartment. Rayne and Kai were currently screaming at each other like an old married couple in the bedroom. Mimi put her ear to the door again, listening closely, Kira came behind her.
“I wouldn’t do that.”
“Ssshh!” Mimi hissed, turning back to the door, her face dropped. “It stopped…”
“Run.” Kira stated, shooting down the hall. Mimi jumped up, but was grabbed from behind,
“Oops…” She was released and she turned to see who had grabbed her, Kai. Her fear soon ebbed away at the sight of a large red cut down the side of his cheek. It bled a little, a single drip of blood running down his pale skin. He pushed past her out into the hallway, going into the living room. Mimi peeked her head into the room, Rayne was picking up large glass pieces from the floor, she looked pissed. Not wanting to disturb her, Mimi backed away out to the living room. “Wow.” she breathed out, sitting down on the floor. Kira glanced at her,
“Told you.”
“No…I think Rayne hit Kai with something.” she mumbled, Ray chuckled. She glared at him, “You find this funny?”
“Nah, I just don’t think Rayne would try to make Kai bleed.” Kira scoffed, Ray glared this time.
“You don’t know Rayne, when she’s pissed she is pissed.” He got a slightly fearful look on his face, “Just don’t make her mad.” Kira mumbled, her eyes returning to look at the black and white pages of the manga book in front of her. Kai came out of the kitchen, a bandage over the cut, the blood cleared from his face, he looked a little mad, but not as mad as Rayne did. He sat in the large leather chair, sighing and leaning his head back, his eyes closed. Max laughed, turning on the TV to MTV, a rap song just ending, another song starting after it’s intro.
“Hey, Evanescence.” he stated, Rayne came out of the hallway and watched the video for Lithium, smiling when it was over and going into the kitchen to throw away the glass. When she came back into the living room, she sat on Kai’s lap, getting his attention. His face tinted pink, but not too dark, the rest of them laughed, not knowing Kai could blush. “Sooo…what happened in there?” Max asked, turning the TV back off.
“I think Kai finally got my point.” Rayne teased, poking the edge of the white bandage, he growled pulling his face away. She giggled, he sighed lowly, now she decided to be nice? “Didn’t you?”
“Yeah, yeah…and sorry for being such an ass about it…” he mumbled, hating having to admit he was wrong. Kira watched him wide eyed,
“Wow, two points for Rayne…zip for Kai.” Ray looked confused,
“What?”
“ Well, Kai never blushes, and he’s never wrong or admits to it.”
“That makes three for me then, I got him to admit he was wrong, plus he was wrong.” Rayne smiled, squealing when Kai poked her stomach, “Don’t tickle me! I will find your ticklish spot Kai Hiwatari.” she warned, he smirked.
“You just try.” Kira and Ray smirked devilishly,
“KISS! KISS! KISS! KISS! KISS! KISS!” they chanted, Mimi and Max soon following in, laughing the whole time. Rayne’s face flushed to a deep red, Kai’s small blush faded and he smirked. She made a motion to move off him, but he used one hand to hold her down, the other turned her face so the close proximater between them closed. The four of them cheered, Max soon decided to grab Mimi, she giggled as she was tackled to the floor. Kira laughed, but instantly found herself against the couch, staring up at Ray who grinned widely. This was going to be an interesting night.

“It’ ;s what today?” Rayne asked, staring at Ray. He smiled, eating another bite of his breakfast. “Tell me again! I wasn’t paying attention!”
“It’s his birthday.” They both jumped at a familiar-but still creepy none the less-giggle come from behind them. They turned to look at Mimi who came from her room, Max following still half asleep.
“My tummy says it’s time to eat…” she giggled. Rayne rolled her eyes, going into the kitchen to make another two breakfasts, taking Ray’s and her own dishes with her. When Mimi wolfed down her breakfast she rubbed her stomach gratefully, “Now my tummy says finally.” she giggled again, bounding back to the room, Max following again, handing his dishes to Rayne at the sink.
“So, should we do something?” she asked, Ray shrugged his shoulders. Then smiled,
“Why? Do want to do something, Rayne~?” he teased, she blushed, nearly dropping a plate, she splashed the water at him. He stared at the large wet patch on his red shirt, “Thanks. Really.” he turned heading to the room to change and see if Kira was awake yet.
“A surprise party would be good…wait, how old is he going to be?” she talked to herself, putting a bowl into the dishwasher.
“How old is who going to be?” she squealed loudly in surprise, Kai appearing next to her.
“N-N-N-N-N-N-No one….no one special really…” she mumbled, “IguessIshouldgochangenowbye!” she bolted back to the room, leaving Kai sorely confused.

Kira yawned in boredom, glancing at the clock on the wall. Rayne pulled a freshly baked cake from oven, nearly dropping it as Max and Mimi tried to get a hold of the sugar. She was about to complain as Rayne sat down, taking a bowl of vanilla ice cream with her, taking a quick bite while keeping Mimi away. She stopped though when the phone rang, picking up the white receiver she decided to have some fun.
“Hannah’s Whore House, Hannah speaking.” she kept her snickers low, hearing Kai on the other end.
“Uuuhh…sorry, I must have the uh…the wrong number…”
“Depends, who you lookin’ for?”
“Um, is Rayne there?”
“Hold on, let me check my list….let’s see…Rayne…Rayne…oh, yes she’s here.” she grinned innocently when Rayne turned to look at her, waving her off.
“Well, can I talk to her?”
“She’s a little busy…her mouth is kind of…full.” she grinned wider. Rayne was keeping Mimi away while the spoon was still in her mouth, mumble-like noises coming from her as her only protest. Ray had already figured out Kai was on the line, having heard every bit of conversation Kira said. Kai was quiet, Kira gave Ray a look. He smiled, making a moaning noise loud enough so Kai could hear him. Rayne, being beside him, gagged on the spoon, coughing in surprise at the noise. She gave Ray a ’What-In-The-Name-Of-Hell-?-!’ look.
“What…was that??” Kai sounded a little worried and slightly pissed off. Kira turned the phone to speaker just so they could hear him, Rayne still confused, and coughing.
“She just gagged a little…she’ll need to work on that.” Rayne glared at her, about to say something when Mimi covered her mouth.
“Ssshh!!” Rayne moved her hands away, catching on to the joke, taking a bite of ice cream again.
“Do you have any proof that she’s there?” he sounded royally annoyed. Kira sighed in annoyance and covered the mouth piece.
“He wants proof that you’re here, Rayne.” Rayne thought, a bit of ice cream dribbling down her chin. Ray stopped her from wiping it off, ruffling her up a little, pulling off his shirt and pulling her close to him. “That’ll work.” she moved the phone, positioning it carefully, and taking a picture, sending it to Kai.
“W-What the--LET ME TALK TO HER NOW!!!” Kira took the phone off speaker and growled at it,
“Meh! Fine, here, Rayne.” Rayne reached out, taking the phone and wiping her mouth, leaving her appearance otherwise.
“’Sup, babe?” she asked coolly, instantly moving it away from her ear when Kai yelled.
“ARE YOU CHEATING ON ME?!?!?!” she made a face, putting the phone back to her ear.
“It’s only Ray.”
“With RAY?!” she rolled her eyes,
“No. Ray and Kira are being bigger idiots that normal, idiot.” he sounded like he was thinking on it. Ray and Kira started to laugh hysterically, Max stopping the video camera for proof that they were only kidding.
“Got it.” he told them happily, Rayne made a ’I-Don’t-Know-Why-I-Hang-Out-With-You-Freaks’ face.
“Idiots…” she mumbled, what a way to torture Kai on his birthday.

Kira screamed again, her and Mimi holding each other tightly. Rayne looked at them bored-like,
“You guys are such babies…it’s only a movie.” she told them, Mimi stuck her tongue out at her,
“It’s still scary!” Kai rolled his eyes, pausing the movie, a dark hallway flickering on the screen.
“It’s the Grudge. It is not scary…” he mumbled, playing it again, the creepy noise of the dead Japanese woman trying to breathe playing loudly, “If you want we could do something else.” he turned it off, taking Kira’s and Mimi’s fearful shrieks as a yes.
“Booooriiiing.” Max whined, Rayne giggled,
“It wasn’t that bad, but it could have been a lot scarier.” Ray nodded in his agreement, “See what’s on MTV.” she demanded, snatching the remote from Kai, he growled at her, but she only smiled. “MTV…MTV…MTV! I found it! You’re guys’ channels are all whacked out.”
“Hey…it’s one of our music vids.” Kira stated, turning up the TV, Rayne blushed, muting the TV.
“That is an old song…bad, very bad.” Kira reached for the remote again, Rayne held it close to her chest, snuggling to Kai for a barricade. Kai reached his arm around her shoulders, slipping his hand between her arms to grab the remote back.
“And I want to hear it.” she pouted at him, he took the mute off. Turning it back in the middle of the song.
“It was one of the first. Rayne wrote it when she was sixteen. It was a big hit, I don’t know why she’s saying it’s bad.” he glanced at her, she buried her face in his chest, embarrassed at his praise. He twisted his long fingers in her silky hair, she let herself feel comforted, though another feeling of a familiar loss wrapped itself around her heart. “Hey…here’s one of ours.” Rayne looked up at the TV, smiling as the dark screen went to a light running across Ray’s red guitar. Switching off to Max beating the drums along in a fast beat, Kai’s voice coming in,
“Thanks…it was bitch to Kai for a while.” Kai’s face tinted pink, and he jumped suddenly, grabbing Rayne’s wrist. She giggled,
“Found your ticklish spot!”
“Where?” Kira asked, Kai shook his head, in a beg-like manner for her not to tell them. Rayne smiled sweetly.
“Right…here!” she grabbed his upper thigh, close to a certain area, squeezing tightly. He jumped again,
“Stop that!” he pinned her to the couch and started to tickle her, she squealed, giggling at the same time.
“S-Stop!! Hahahaha, Kai!!…Stop!!” she laughed.
“Not happening!” quickly she grabbed his wrists, halting him, both of them smiled at each other. She heaved from lack of breath,
“My sides hurt.” he laughed at her, getting off.
“Kai! You’re stealing my job!” Kira whined, Rayne threw a pillow at her head.
“Shut it!” this was probably the calmest the six of them had been in a long while. And Rayne prayed to God that it would stay that way.
