Chapter 12: I had to fall to lose it all…

Kai shook his head to clear it; he was outside in the cold evening air. He had called Voltaire and gave him the go ahead for everything. All their plans to get rid of Boris. But Kai didn't care, Tala was safe, so he could give a fuck less about Boris. Of all the turmoil in his scattered mind and sanity, he smiled. He had achieved his goal; he had saved Tala's life. He checked his watch, he had left Tala an hour ago, and he decided he should check on him. As he entered the abbey he heard the intercom come on, a long shrieking sound as the volume was set. He frowned, someone was in his office.

Boris- “Hello Kai.” Boris's voice came out terrible low.
Kai- “Boris?” he asked aloud, his breath quickening with panic.
Boris- “I see you Kai…with all of your upgraded technology and enhanced camera's…I'm still one step ahead of you…always watching you…” his voice was eerie in the abbeys emptiness.

Kai began running in the direction of his office, there was something telling Kai that something wasn't right.
Boris- “What's wrong Kai? Why are you running…afraid of something?” he began laughing. Kai ran up the stairs to the upper level office. Once he reached the door his heart skipped a beat, then he turned the handle and went in.

Boris smiled at Kai,
Boris- “How nice of you to join me…I love what you've done with the place…it's so…pleasant…” he sounded disgusted. He was leaning against the desk.

Kai- “Get out, I warned you about coming back to the abbey and what the consequences would be. But you're just so stubborn…” he said calmly but still out of breathe.

Man- “So this is him…the boy who was interfering in all our plans?” A tall dark haired man stepped out of the back room. He had a light but serious voice.
Boris grinned,
Boris- “Yes, but young Kai wont be giving us any more trouble will you Kai?” Boris smiled maliciously and before Kai could respond his eyes focussed on the other man he reached in to the back room and pulled someone out.

Kai-“NO!!!” he screamed and moved towards the terribly beaten Tala.
Boris- “No, no, no Kai. I would stay were you are…” he grinned still, holding up a tiny remote.
Boris- “Or Cyber Tala might…how should I say…short circuit…” he chuckled at Kai's horrified expression.

Kai- “Anything Boris…I don't care…just don't hurt him.” Kai looked at Tala.

Tala was only managing to stand, his long hair was open and being held in a vice grip by the anonymous man. He tugged at the long red locks causing Tala to cry out and blood fell from his mouth and then he landed on his knees, and was harshly pulled to his feet by his hair. Tala cried out, his teeth clenched and his eye's shut tightly as he cried in pain. His shirt was gone and he had lashes on his body, that was definitely not Boris's style. Kai looked at the smiling dark haired man,

Kai- “Leave him, why are you doing this to him?” he started crying.
Boris- “Shall I explain? Very well. This man's name is Curtis Thomas…his American. He is Tala's…step father.”

At his words Tala looked up through his blood shot eyes at the man clutching his hair, his face seemed dead to the world as he stared.

Boris- “But as I'm sure you can tell, he isn't here to bond…you see Kai. Tala's real father is dead, and his entire million's wroth fortune was left to his beautiful wife, who has begun a search for her son…who she sold for money only to realise she would eventually marry Tala's father two years later who was actually a rich man.” He waited to see if Kai was following.

Kai was watching Tala; both had pained expressions on their faces as Boris spoke. Boris nodded to Curtis and Curtis threw Tala forward into Kai's arms. Kai caught him and picked his head up to look at him,
Kai- “I left you again…I'm so sorry…” he cried as Tala just closed his eyes and rested against Kai.

Boris- “The story is far from over boys. You see, Curtis here has paid me handsomely to kill young Tala…so that he may inherit the fortunes that Tala's mother would have left to Tala. So therefore…say goodbyes boys…Tala ahs to die.” He sounded pleased.

Kai watched as Boris activated a button on the remote. It wasn't just a cyber enhancement; it was put into place to kill Tala. Kai felt Tala tense in his arms and he looked into Tala's face, he seemed as though he couldn't speak, his blue eye's where wide and his face was rigid. Tala's eye's slid closed then his mouth opened and he screamed out a gurgled cry of pain. Kai fell to his knees with Tala in his arms, Tala was silent now but was convulsing, his body was shaking and Kai could do nothing but hold Tala close as he himself was shaking.

Kai- “make it stop….please please please make it stop…I'm sorry Tala…please forgive me…I never meant for this to happen…” he was whispering to Tala. He saw Tala's eyes focus on him for a moment before they rolled back in his head and he clutched at Kai, as he shook terribly before it all just stopped. There was a dead silence and Kai went numb as he held Tala's limp body in his arms.

He was shaking violently staring into Tala's expressionless face, no movement.
Kai placed his lips against Tala's and after a moment he closed his eye's. Just as he had expected…there was no breathe.
He leaned his head against Tala and started crying, holding Tala close. He had no words, only numbing pain as he held his closest friends dead body in his arms.

Kai- “I'm sorry Tala…” he said a final time.

Boris- “Yes and lets hope he heard you, but now Kai, we have to deal with you…its nothing too personal just business…” he walked over and grabbed Kai by his hair, slipping a knife out of his pocket.
Boris- “Let's see what Voltaire thinks of his great Kai Hiwatari now…” he mumbled.

Kai didn't care about anything, his eyes just fell to Tala and then they closed. There was a loud commotion before Kai felt himself fall to the ground…and he let himself blackout. Nothing mattered, Tala was dead, and it was his fault because he had left Tala alone…again. Tala was the only thing Kai had ever really cared for or loved…and now he was gone.
