Today,their little chief made them rice and fresh carp,caught from the river nearby.It appeared that he was vey fond of spices too.Everyone were present,even Kai.He sat across Mariah,who sent him an ugly glare before she concentrated on the girl again.Kai noticed that the others were casting glances in his direction several times during the dinner,comparing him to the little girl by Mariah`s side.
He was very aware that she looked much like him,almost an exact image.Kaisa appeared to be the one who got the most attention during dinner.The others were quite taken with her,he knew.Kai noticed how she spoke,how she would switch the r with either l or w.He had done the exact same thing at her age.
"Daddy?Could you pass me the salt?"
Mariah noticed how tense Kai got at this question,his face becoming expresionless,his eyes dark.
"Do not call me daddy",he said,his voice low and snarling.Kaisa looked a little puzzled when he said this.
"Why not?After all,you are my daddy".Mariah could see that the comment almost pushed Kai over the edge.
"I am not your father,understood?"
It sounded like a threat.
"Uncle Tyson said that if you evel spoke bad wolds to me again,he would kick youw ass".This made everyone shut up.Kai stood up from his chair,his hands on the table.
"You dont say?"His gaze made Tyson feel very uncomfortable,and he bit his lip nervously.
"Thank you for dinner",Kai said in his coldest voice and left the room.
Kaisa just looked confused,and said:he`s not gonna eat his food?Then he wont grow big and strong,you know".That made Mariah smile."I think Kai is big and strong enough already,sweetheart".
Kids were the weirdest creatures she knew about.It did not seem like what Kai had said had hurt her today,like it had last time.They ate their dinner in silence.The afternoon was spent in the mountains.
They did not come back til after night had fallen(even though it doesn`t get dark in the summer,you know what I mean,kay?).Also this night Kaisa would sleep in Mairah and Rei`s bed.
After the pinkhaired girl had read her a goodnight-story,Kaisa asked her:Ma-iah?Why is daddy being such a jerk to me?He is my daddy,and he knows it!"Mariah shrugged.
"I dont know".She stroke the little girl`s spikey hair.
"I think Kai is afraid of you".Kaisa`s expression turned curious.
"Why?"She hugged her bunny tighter.Mariah smiled at her.
"I think Kai is afraid of too much responsibility,that he wont be able to maintain his pride.And you my dear,you are responsibility".Kaisa thought this over,then she nodded.
"Nighty,little one.I will be in bed later".She blew out the candle on the little table by the bed.
"But what about uncle Kon?"she asked.
"He will sleep on the couch,dear.Go to sleep now,kay?"She left the room,closing the door behind her.She sat down on the couch beside her boyfriend.
"Is the girl asleep?"he asked and stroke her hair.Mariah smiled and placed a light kiss on his lips.
"She will be soon"."Mariah sighed.
"Just imagine when we will have our own kids,Rei".He cleared his throat.She smirked.
"Oh,there is no need to worry,it wont be for a couple of years yet".She giggled when he started blushing.
"I am glad",he whispered into her ear."Am I sleeping on the couch?"She gave a nod.
"And you?"She arched an eyebrow.
"What is going on in that filthy mind of yours,Kon?"He grinned.
"I was just thinking you could keep me company,my dear...?"She smiled and went to get a blanket and some pillows.
"So you are freezing?"she asked.His devious grin spoke for itself.She smirked and pulled a blanket over both of them.
When Mariah woke up next morning,Rei was still asleep.She kissed him lightly on the lips and gathered her clothes.In the kitchen she found a note from Kaisa,saying:I am waking up uncle Tyson,he pwomised to by me a ice-cream".She smiled at the little girl`s handwriting,all curly and childish.
So the girl could write aswell.And almost without any wrongs either.But if she would manage to wake Tyson up?Mariah had her doubts.The navyhaired boy slept very heavily.But who knew?That little Hiwatari was full of surprises.She boiled some water for her tea and sliced some bread before she woke up her boyfriend.
